Once upon a time...a crisp sunny windy Spring day In 1981 this little humble band came to my university in upstate New York and everyone fell in love with them. With no expectations...they happily belted out song after song with pride and precision. You're Still the One, Dance With Me and Love Takes Time touched everyone one way or another. Larry led the band with his special humble brand of charisma and enthusiasm. I happened to be there with my girlfriend, happy, in love, up front basking simplicity and satisfaction of life. Little did we know....this would be the bands peak and our relationship peak as well. However, for one day, one performance, everything in life was perfect. People come into our lives for a reason... to give us hope, inspiration, and reaffirmation. To every member in the band---Larry, Wells, Bob, Charlie, Lance, etc...thank you...you did it! Forty years later, your special brand of music, hope, happiness lives on and inspires us today. Thank you for reaffirming...we don't have to wait....heaven is a place right here on earth.

Agreed - well written, captures the “in the moment” essence… I was still in HS in a Syracuse suburb when this band was at the zenith of its popularity, but w/ older siblings attending Syracuse University just a few miles from our home, I use to spend a good bit of my free time up on the hill and even working at the marshal street bars (I was pretty big for a middle-aged teenager and eventually played FB there in the mid-80s), so I got to work a lot of the campus concerts at the university student union,Manley fieldhouse and ultimately the C Carrier dome… I enjoyed seeing this band live (2x)….+40 yrs later their music still resonates

I can close my eyes and I am back in 1979. When I would tell my parents “going for a bike ride “.
Kids playing in the streets or in the parks. Everyone was home before it got dark. No need for cell phones. Gosh, Life was easier then. Great song! No profanity and no hired dancers to sell the product. This is real music. Thank you for producing this song, what a great expression of love, it takes time.

One night...many moons ago...I was in Albany, NY club-hopping as our group had the night off and we stumbled into a small place on Central Ave. called "Pauly's Hotel" and there was a $2.00 cover, so we paid and walked in....there was maybe a dozen people there and so we grabbed a table up front about 6 feet front the stage and the band came out and this guy walks up to the mic and says "Good evening..we are Orleans". Then they opened up and I was glued to my chair for the next hour and a half. Ever since then, I became a big fan of one of the finest groups I've ever heard.

Classical music is known as "perfect music". The musicians attempt to perfectly recreate what the composer wrote. Great groups like Orleans are the same. When Larry Hoppen understood that his brain condition had robbed him of the Gift that GOD had given him, he could not deal with it.
This song is the Gift that Larry Hoppen and Orleans has left for Us... treasure it. Love truly does "take time".

WHO does this guy make you think of, who also has that POWERFUL SOARING voice... Not Roy Orbison or Steve Perry though; and I love their singing dearly. Maybe Bobby Hatfield from the Righteous Brothers, Jay Black from Jay & the Americans, and Gary Puckett from GP & the Union Gap I think.

En esos tiempos se hacían música muy buena, bonitas melodías y armonías, es una pena que la niñez y juventud de ahora tengan que escuchar reggaeton, trap, les han malogrado sus oídos

Gosh... compare this to the trash-music in modern-times.... NO comparison!! The 70's was the very BEST in the music entertainment industry!! Orleans truly was 1 of the most OUTSTANDING bands of all time!

Larry Lewis Hoppen (January 12, 1951 - July 24, 2012) was an American musician who was a co-founder, vocalist and guitarist/keyboardist of the pop-rock group Orleans. Orleans was formed in Woodstock, New York in January 1972 by Hoppen, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter (and future member of Congress) John Hall, and drummer/percussionist

Looks like the late 80s through 90s lineup: Larry Hoppen, John Hall, Lance Hoppen, Bob Leinbach, and Pete O'Brien....with the 1979 studio version overlay. Nice work on this! Thanks for the post.

This takes me back, to 9 years old, play till the streetlights came, mom or call to come home for dinner, riding in the back of a pickup, you all know, what I mean.

Sept 1979 and this song was in the air ....1st week of classes. I was a sophomore in HS in central NY. Star senior MLB was a crazy SOB. Had a few joints in his leather jacket pocket in his school locker... mid morning his locker is searched and he is immediately suspended and will soon be expelled. Just before noon, the General PA system sounds a page asking me to report to the principals office... I exit my class to the sound of my classmates mouthing off that I am in trouble etc..and head to the main office complex within the multiple building campus.. I get more of the same lip service from those I pass by as I head to see “Dr. Hershberger”. I am ushered in to the waiting room of his office and told to take a seat... I sit there having no clue as to why I am there, meanwhile other students peer into the room via the glass side windows.... finally I am ushered in to his office, where I join the principal, assistant principal, athletic director, head FB coach and our school police officer. I immediately think WTF?? and figure I need to call my Dad. Check that, as it turns out they have him on the phone.... turns out all of this bull crap was pertaining to the fact that I was being promoted from Jr varsity FB team to Varsity FB, to fill the role vacated by the dearly departed star and it was supposedly a big deal b/c in the schools 30+ yr history, it had never happened before, along with the fact that this particular year we were expected to win the league, sectionals and were a serious contender for state playoffs.... I was totally oblivious to it all and even when playing FB at my Div 1 alma mater, I never thought it was anything more than a great way to get a good education

Love this tune! For Many years - well, it played today in Food Town SuperMarket, and I said to myself - I have to learn this tune for an open mic (I know daring as one guy!) Guess who co wrote this?...I doubt any one would ever guess......ready?......It is arguably their third most popular song overall, behind "Dance with Me" and "Still the One," and their most popular song without lead singer John Hall.[4] Written by Larry Hoppen and Marilyn Mason, it was the first track on the band's 1979 album Forever.[5] I was like, Marilyn Manson! wow.
