Warning, you do not need to remove the limiter tab or touch it at all tailgate assist. Works great without having to do any of that. You’re going to bend metal tab for no reason.

I put one of these (deezee) on my Ram. Works great. One very minor thing was to always make sure the gate latches. All that takes is a slight pull on the top after you close it. These shocks let the tailgate down so smooth, that there isn't the normal slam to let you know the gate opened while driving.
Good advice in the winter sometimes mine doesn't latch and almost lost my snowblower . Before I installed the tailgate assist I would immediately when the tailgate would slam down.

I installed one of those 4 years ago, they are awesome! One tip I can give you is to throw out the blue thread locker that comes with the kit, and use red thread locker, because mine came loose a few months after installing it. However, once I used the red thread locker, and re installed it, I have had no problems at all!

To install the plastic clip onto cable, throw the clip in boiling water, it will soften up. Then start from the chamfered side and with pliers and cloth to protect it will easily squeeze on

Nice! I'll have to see if theres one for the Dakotas. I've got the normal gate but with a metal gate protector on the inside makes it weigh a lot more and was always a fear of dropping it too hard.

Nice mod. One mod I did was put a metal hose clamp on the passenger side hinge for the tailgate. the idea behind it is that it makes it harder to steal, you cant just walk up and lift it off the truck. It works real good doesn't get in the way and removes the crime of opportunity when you forget to lock your tailgate. Plus its a cheap mod only 2 bucks. Another cheap mod I did was the 5th gen jack tie down. Ive heard a lot of stories of the stud getting rusted, seized and leaving you stranded because you cant remove the jack. That mod was around 5 bucks and it was easy.

I just installed this on my '16 Rebel. The ball on the truck side didn't seem to 'click' into place, like the tail gate side did. I tried it a couple of times.

Great video, I installed the Deezee unit on my 2019 4th Gen 1500 and I love that my tailgate doesn't slam down. Please note that if you don't install the plastic cable sleeve, you will run the chance of the cable sliding behind the shock; which mine has done on several occasions whenever i close the tailgate slowly. Other wise it usually goes around properly when not closing it slowly.

I got one similar for my old RAM. after a few years the insert and post became loose... Removal of this thing isn't easy... I've noticed the Deezee brand one has re-designed the post plate, changing the pivot point away from the insert. Hoping this one lasts longer... Its definitely a great and easy mod. Love the video!

I guess the ram rebel tailgates are different because mine won't close.. Is the upper actuated bar is squishing the tailgate cable
I had a Dee Zee for maybe 2 years until one time just one time it was a bit too cold out so the strut lost pressure. Slammed hard and head snapped clean off the strut rod. Unrepairable and worthless. Love the videos though. Ive been watching for years.

Hey Jon, I have had those struts for many years on my 01 Dodge Ram. I got them from LMC Trucks. They may be pricey but they haven't quit working yet. I don't know about you but I will sacrifice price for durability.

Have you tried any tailgate assist on the Hellkota? I have a 99 RT and have yet to find one for it.
I haven’t but once I get my new place setup I’ll see if I can come up with a solution or if by chance this kit will fit on the Dakota

technically the older trucks never needed them because the gates were lighter and smaller height wise. Now with the locking mechanism and the backup camera in the latch, theres more top heavy weight. My mom's 2019 gate weighs more than my 04 Dakotas does with a 1/16'" steel protector bolted to it lol
