Feeds her babies ....protects them....herself remains in the open....no room for her inside....does everything she can do for her babies ...smilingly ....no complaints ....
I've been watching my own mama hummingbird with her two babies here in San Diego and I am thrilled to see that you've caught this lovely moment on video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. We found this baby hummingbird (parent and siblings dead) and he hasn’t wanted to feed since yesterday. This video made him open his beak and I managed to sneak three drops of sugar-water in :D
As mentioned by other comments this is a female. She has a little patch of iridescent pink feathers, but males have way more than that. Also the males don't raise the little ones.
What is the red on it's chest? Almost thought it had a cut at first. We have a green hummingbird like this at our house. We have 4 hummingbird feeders out and are blessed with at least 12 different colored hummingbirds who come to feed daily.
The Mama doesn't usually stay on the nest anymore (even at night) once the babies start to get bigger. Mine can only be seen for the minute or two when she feeds the babies. If I didn't have a camera on the nest, I'd worry she'd abandoned it that first year. But, the video shows otherwise. It's very likely the nest was not abandoned. Sad to think they may have been separated unnecessarily.
Baby: Mom I'm hungry Mom: Okay just let me feed you Baby: HOLD UP HOLD UP YOU AIN'T FEEDING ME WITH THAT NEEDLE ASS MOUTH! mom: Did you just say "Ass?" Baby: .......no

Beautiful birds and pretty chicks nice video
IT'S A WONDER THE BABIES AREN'T INJURED BY THE MOTHER'S BEAK GOING SO FAR DOWN THEIR THROATS.
I guess for some reason I always imagined them having pointy beaks like an adult
That was amazing. It brightened my day. Thanks.

Thank You For Posting
It's a female Anna's Hummingbird. I was fairly certain when I first saw this (considering it was in San Diego), so I checked my field guide.
