Wednesday I was sweeping the floor of the machine shop where I work when someone said a dead hummingbird was on the floor. I swept it into my dust bucket. But I thought I saw some movement so I pulled it out and held it in my right hand. It blinked. I began to pull off the cobwebs that had ended its flight. First I got its eyes free then started on one that wrapped it wings. As soon as it could move its wings it shot out of my hand and flew up to the ceiling. It was an event that lasted only moments but will be with me forever.
How did you get it off the ceiling? I have them get inside my great room vaulted ceiling where I can't reach them; all they do is keep hitting the ceiling and staying right up against it. They eventually tire and come down but where I never know; I don't have time to spend hours waiting for them to come down. I find them weeks later, dead. If they do come down while I'm watching they take off so fast I can't catch them. So all I can do is be sure to keep the outside doors closed because it's a death sentence if they get inside.
My wife and I have been feeding Hummingbird’s for 40 years. The amount of Hummingbird’s varies from year to year. Each Hummingbird has their own personality. Yes they do. I have a bunch in my yard from putting out just 6 feeders. It was time to take them down to clean them. I brought the first one back out and one almost landed on it (while holding it by hand for them) but another one dive bombed him and they both flew off fighting. I live in the Las Vegas NV area and they are all over here. I love seeing them, a few weeks ago a tree, I think it is the smoke tree, was covered in yellow blooms and I sat in my backyard and counted 9 hummingbirds in that tree. It was amazing to watch. I was telling a neighbor across the street about it and she told me “as you were telling me that there was a hummingbird hovering not far behind you!” These are my favorite birds even more so than the desert quails that live in the area, but both are fascinating critters to watch. ❤️❤️ Thank you for all the information on them.

I made my nectar 1c. Sugar to 2 c. Water microwave container put on high for 3 minutes check it out add more till sugar dissolves. Put some in feeder sore rest in refrigerator. Very little nectar is needed since it supplies a lot more sugar for them than usual. Clean feeder every 3 days if temp. is in 60 and more often when temp is higher...miss having them . Don't be surprised if bees or other birds come to sample or visit your feeder.
My neighbor has feeders in her back yard, and the hummingbirds come over into my yard and feed on some of the citrus flowers and I’ve seen them flying around certain shrimp plants too. I love watching their incredible speed.
I used to get chewed out if the feeder near my front door was empty when I got home from work. To be dressed down by such a tiny creature is very humbling.
They also recognize themselves. I just made a video of a hummingbird after he saw himself on video. The second recording he's doing more of a performance. I just uploaded it.
Really enjoyed this video! Watched it with my 4 1/2 year old daughter. We have several hummingbird feeders in our back yard, and take great delight in appreciating their beauty and playfulness.
Most important fact not covered is that if you do not change the sugar water in your hummingbird feeder quite often, it ferments (especially in the Arizona sun) and poisons the humming birds.
@@robdonell9915 More often in Arizona than in Washington state. More often in the summer than in the winter. Googling "hummingbird food spoilage" will lead to some baseline information.
here in northern NM, I have 3 feeders out and have to ffill them all 2x a day! 4 quarts worth! I clean them every other feeding so mold doesnt build up. there are probably 30 birds here in the morning and seems even more n the evening. One day we were gone and came home to empty feeders and no birds. I filled the feeders and within minutes, they all came back. we have 5 kinds here, Annas, Broadtailed, Rufus, Calliope and Black chinned. One curious thing - I have a planter with gorgeous red Nasturtiums right by the feeders, but hummers dont seem to go to them?
I recently put up a feeder for first time and have 1 lil guy that visits daily, I hope he brings friends. Their so fascinating to watch, I never knew they chirped also…so amazing!
If you want more hummers in your yard - you'll need more feeders spaced apart from each other. Hummers are solitary and territorial - they don't share or make friends and families.
@@catherinehenry2291 If you place several feeders out and keep them filled, they will learn there is a reliable supply of food that doesn't run out and find less need to compete and be territorial over what in nature is a limited food source.
Hummingbirds one of my favourite little birds excellent informative videos about the birds wow am in awe watching these clever birds relaxing I love them !!! Thanks for sharing ❤❤!!aa
If you are banding them and recapturing them every year to verify they are the same birds every year, then you might be right. But if you are not banding them, then there is no way you can verify it is the same birds returning every year.
@@gordonkarre6364 you don't spend much time in nature with the wildlife, do you? I had 2 greenhouses, multiple gardens and an orchard. My main companions were the hummingbirds and my dogs. The hummingbirds were very communicative and would let me know when their feeders were empty. A couple of them also liked to surprise me and "stalk" me. They can be little tricksters too. They are extremely territorial so I made sure to provide them with multiple feeders to avoid any conflict over food. The couples would fly around together untill their eggs were lain and hatched. Then I would see them individually feeding and flying around. They took turns watching over their children, and we're extremely dedicated parents. I knew each bird in my yard by their behavior and markings, and yes, the same couples returned to my yard year after year. This is such a hard reality for humans to face, but when animals are not stressed and abused they behave differently than how zookeepers and hunters claim they do. Not everyone is a whore😹🚬 We can't say that about most humans anymore, can we?....the ones that engage in unnatural behavior including sodomy and adultery are facing the reality that their behavior causes imbalance and leaves children without the sincere Love and care they need. Children have divine rights. So do our animal friends. If we don't respect the lives of all SINCERELY LOVING KIND-HEARTED BEINGS, we can't really expect mother nature to respect our lives, now can we?
@@christinecallanan8389 I most definitely spend a lot of time in nature and the outdoors. I am also an ornithologist and spend most of my time researching and observing birds and their behaviors. I also have hummingbirds in my back yard all year long and see many species of them in Arizona. So please try not to assume anything about me and my knowledge. All I am saying, is that without scientific verifiable data, one cannot assume that same pairs return every year. In fact, hummingbirds do not mate for life. Males will breed with a female and move on and look for other females. Rufous Hummingbirds migrate 2500 miles from Mexico to Canada and Alaska. Once the females arrive after the males, then breeding males will mate and leave the females on their own for the incubation and raising of the young. Many males will start migrating back to Mexico as early as July. If you can band and recapture and release on a yearly basis and document your findings, then you will have provided scientific data.
@@gordonkarre6364 don't tell me what I know to be true to not be then. The worst threat to the animal "kingdom" is humans who claim they are behave like Babylonians, when they are in fact VERY loving and loyal to their mates and families. Sodomy is very rare in Nature, and not desirable at all, since it is really a perverted version of a NATURAL act, but it's the new "normal" according to the perverts in power. I don't have to ban and capture innocent brings to prove something natural that can easily be observed. I stand by my observations and know who my REAL friends are. 🤗💖 (I didn't read all of your post....it got a little too preachy and demanded I pay more attention to your credentials than the truth. Right? I have a guard hummingbird that won't let any other hummingbirds feed. Also have two living walls of morning glories on the same porch as the feeder. She has claimed her territory. She is a big bully, or rather a little bully. Lol
I am so lucky that my ex boyfriend always called me a hummingbird. So I feel that I am that person. I have my real name and will not change it as other false people do.
I live in Michigan and had a wire by my bay window stretching around 20 feet from my porch post deep into a pine tree where I kept about 4 - 6 feeders going - changing the 4:1 strength water/ sugar nectar every 3 days - to keep my nectar bacteria free. Well I learned "the heck with my hanging fucia". They would buzz me when ever I took the feeders down for cleaning. Sometimes they would line up 6+ on my wire. I read somewhere that there are usually 6x as many hummers feeding than you ever see at one time! Don't you just 💕😘 them!! (P.S. I use black oil seeds to feed their counterparts in the ❄️ winter 🥶!
This video was great lots I didn't know about. I love seeing these Beautiful birds they brighten up my day. I'm blessed and happy to have them around me I'm learning from them.😊
I have a feeder thats never empty. When they know there is always food, lots of them show up. I also run a floating solar powered hummingbird shower in the summer. They really like that.
Bridget, they truly are beautiful to watch. Three years ago one made a nest in the Ficus tree in my little backyard. She layed 2 eggs and I had the privilege of watching her feed once they hatched. The nest itself was amazing to see so up close. I even have a Video of one of the birds when it flew away. It was a gift from God to get to watch for about three weeks the part of her journey from nest building , watching for an egg, waiting for them to hatch, feeding and sadly when the two flew away.
We love them and have put up many feeders and let me tell you they are humming all over our yard. They make a deep swoop sound. Over our heads. And can be very friendly and land on your hand. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
They can also be territorial. My hummers will often chase each other away from the feeder even though I keep it full and there are plenty of feeding stations.
Dood, why the hell would you have a profile Pic wearing a mask of obedience.... Let alone wearing it inside I would assume where you live, or why would anyone actually put one on ever. Sigh... I was telling a neighbor across the street about it and she told me “as you were telling me that there was a hummingbird hovering not far behind you!” These are my favorite birds even more so than the desert quails that live in the area, but both are fascinating critters to watch. ❤️❤️ Thank you for all the information on them.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
They such a cute and unique little beautiful birds.❤❤❤

The fact is they’re BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️❤️
My favorite birds! I just love these little guys! Fun to watch around feeders.
Thx for giving this fact, this fact help me doin my homework about humming birds
I loved watching the video, I have few feeders, enjoy watching them daily. I cook the nectar, no food coloring, they love it. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. 💕💕❤️❤️👍👍🙏
Please tell me how you fix the nectar if you don't mind.😊
@@cathyeverette3616 Hi, I boil water, shut it off.add the sugar, stir until you see no sugar, then store leftover on fridge. 1/4. Sugar to 1 cup of water. I make eight cups of water with two cups sugar. Kool.. I clean with vinegar and water, then use a brush to clean feeders. I am joy you so much watching them. Marie. I am sorry for errors, I have to get some reading glasses. Just had surgery on eyes. 😍
Thank you so much! I have have 3 hummingbirds but would love more. I appreciate you responding. Have a blessed day!!!
@@cathyeverette3616 You are welcome. I have four feeders out. Don’t add too much food in feeders, they need cleaning about three days, I try not to waste. I have had six -eight birds at once on feeders. Love it. Blessings to you also, good luck. I💕💕🙏🙏
I made my nectar 1c.
I wish there was a way to test their intelligence I have witnessed them in bold interactions revealing curiosity for the unusual
I love hummingbirds they always make my day brighter.

Humming birds are fearless.
I used to get chewed out if the feeder near my front door was empty when I got home from work. To be dressed down by such a tiny creature is very humbling.
They also recognize themselves. I just made a video of a hummingbird after he saw himself on video. The second recording he's doing more of a performance. I just uploaded it.
wow 500 miles non-stop I can't even walk 500 feet without stopping. There should be more of these types of video's on here. knowledge is power :)
Hummingbirds are such awesome birds. Beautiful and unique, thanks for sharing!. Hummingbirds are just like shooting stars. Such a pleasure to see..

How often should it be replaced ?
@@robdonell9915 More often in Arizona than in Washington state. More often in the summer than in the winter. Googling "hummingbird food spoilage" will lead to some baseline information.
@@robdonell9915 every 2-3 days but sooner if it's extremely hot
Thank you.
here in northern NM, I have 3 feeders out and have to ffill them all 2x a day!
Бог щедр на красоту❤
Beautiful little birds. Love em
I just love how they fly in mid air
Very Beautiful 💖😊God makes beautiful birds 💖😊😍
I recently put up a feeder for first time and have 1 lil guy that visits daily, I hope he brings friends. Their so fascinating to watch, I never knew they chirped also…so amazing!
I also see only 1 . I hope more come.
If you want more hummers in your yard - you'll need more feeders spaced apart from each other. Hummers are solitary and territorial - they don't share or make friends and families.
If you have only one or two, they are very territorial, and chase each other. When there is a larger population, they become much more acomodating.
@@catherinehenry2291 If you place several feeders out and keep them filled, they will learn there is a reliable supply of food that doesn't run out and find less need to compete and be territorial over what in nature is a limited food source.
"They" say that you actually have about 6x the number of hummingbirds that you actually see!m🤔😏
Great Video about humming birds
Hummingbirds one of my favourite little birds excellent informative videos about the birds wow am in awe watching these clever birds relaxing I love them !!! Thanks for sharing ❤❤!!aa
Such beautiful birds.
They do mate for life. I had many couples in my yard that returned every year. They also live longer than 5 years. Mine did anyway.
Not everyone is a whore😹🚬
We can't say that about most humans anymore, can we?....the ones that engage in unnatural behavior including sodomy and adultery are facing the reality that their behavior causes imbalance and leaves children without the sincere Love and care they need.
🤗💖
(I didn't read all of your post....it got a little too preachy and demanded I pay more attention to your credentials than the truth. Let's just agree to different experiences with our animal friends )
Have a great day😁

We feed the humming birds and they are very fun to watch. They get very used to us and come very close.
I love watching them guard their feeder!
Right? I have a guard hummingbird that won't let any other hummingbirds feed. Also have two living walls of morning glories on the same porch as the feeder. She has claimed her territory. She is a big bully, or rather a little bully. Lol

Very beautiful birds. I love hummingbirds. I don´t always feel like a happy hummingbird. I think it is luck to see a real hummingbird or hummingbirds.

Beautiful 😍
This video was great lots I didn't know about. I love seeing these Beautiful birds they brighten up my day. I'm blessed and happy to have them around me I'm learning from them.😊
I have a feeder thats never empty. When they know there is always food, lots of them show up. I also run a floating solar powered hummingbird shower in the summer. They really like that.
I've caught a couple before that couldn't get out of the opened green house. Blessed to have held them for just a second 🙂

I hope u get to see one somewhere. I never thought I'd see one where I live and when I did, I gasped and almost dropped my coffee!!

Sigh... The internet amongst other things have just ruined people on a large scale.
Logic and reason are few and far between. But yssssssssssssssss hummingbirds are the best. You do you tho my guy. If it makes ya feel safe that is coo, just not sure i would personally ever show myself in a Pic with that muzzle on, then again I would never have one on nor be in any pictures
