I don’t know about that, I understand this is how your raised. I feel helping others including the creatures of the world is done from the heart. We have to want to do this for them, not because it says so. (but whatever works) We all should be good humans and care for what God has given us to enjoy. Sadly though there are too few of us that believe this. Hence the reason our world is crumbling in front of our eyes. It’s saddens me and I cry for the helpless, humans and animals alike.

I'm just happy to hear & see the Doves and Robins in my garden. Even though our weather's still chilled here, I put out a shallow dish of water for them. They remember how generous I was last year placing 3 gallon-sized buckets of fresh water for them. I placed twigs in each of them so the Monarchs & Bumblebees could drink too. The Robins would sit on the edge of the buckets...dunking grasshoppers in sort of a milk & cookies fashion. Nature deserves Mums like you & I, Robbie. I taught folks to place out buckets which drastically cut back on those cannibalistic grasshoppers. And you Robbie, well...I hand over the wand on everything else. Take care, ~ Covah

I have figured a way to keep the paper wasps off my feeder. I had to buy a new one and happened onto a More Birds feeder. I also got a free bottle brush with the feeder. It closes up tight around the bottom and does not leak any nectar. Before, the wasps would intimidate my birds and now the birds can get a sip anytime. I have a watch bird everyday who chases away others but they are fun to watch. When his shift ends they all go for it. I have also purchased a wasp trap. It is a sticky type that the wasps are attracted to and when they go in, they are history. Love My Birds and would do anything for them. Thanks Robbie.

This year I decided to commit to using my hummingbird feeder regularly, and staying on top of it. I started with the premade mix until I could buy the sugar and look up the recipe to make up my own. What a difference it made using my own mix! They love it so much more. I think may have made it a tad too sweet though. But I've noticed they'll sit drinking a lot longer.
I have 3 feeders set up on one side of the yard in the trees, about 7-10 ft apart. Perfect set up, the privet tree branches provide an overhang and protection from the sun. Other side I have 1 on a hook under some trees. I've gone from having to fill them every 3 days to every day now lol. But now the 3 sided one, there's a bully. And all I hear is constant chatter and he/she will chase one far off and then others swoop in to drink. Kind of funny, but that chattering....my gosh it's almost annoying.
So the side with 1 feeder isn't as bad as far as bullying. That one still needs refilled about every 2-3 days. My desk is right next to that side of the house/window but I can't see the feeder directly. Twice now I've had a hummingbird come up to the window and fly up and down it and start chattering loudly. I can hear it with window closed. No feeders or anything bright on the window. I got curious the first time and went out to look, and feeder was empty. So some how that bird figured out I'm the one that refills the feeder, and has seen me sitting at my desk and knows I"m there, and knew to get my attention. I think it's hilarious and shows they're pretty dang smart! Just watched your ant guard video too, going to get to work on that soon as well. Thank you!!

I've been a subscriber for some time now and get great inspiration from you. I mix 1/4 cup sugar to 1/4 cup hot water until sugar is dissolved. Then I add 3/4 cold water. It ends up being lukewarm and I feel ready to put it in my feeder right away. I also learned from you to use a spoolie to clean the small holes of the feeder. I think you cleaned up an old mascara brush, but I had a discarded brow crayon with an unused spoolie on the end. Your garden is gorgeous and so fun with all the hummingbirds! We might get 4 at a time, but that's it.

While the video is detailed, the valuable info was provided - 1/4 cup white table sugar + 1 cup water (1/2 cup hot and then add 1/2 cup normal) and use as much as needed and refrigerate rest for up to 5-7days and then throw away and make new. Honestly, this is amazing that she takes care of so many birds.

I installed a new feeder about a month ago and have been using it from the start - it took a couple weeks before any found it, but once they did I now have an almost constant stream of the cutest guests. But they're really bad about chasing each other off. I'm hoping that as they realize the supply is steady and get to know each other they'll become more communal like what you have.

Previously, I was adding only a few teaspoons of white sugar and was attracting the odd hummingbird or two, so clearly it was not sweet enough. I've always switched the water after 4 days, but at this rate I will be refilling it after 2-3 days max. The birds seem to love the new and improved formula.

I enjoyed your video. I wish I had as much luck as you do keeping them around. Its soo hot here in Vegas that the fluid has to be too hot to drink. I did plant some flowers to brighten up the back yard. We'll see

I use a glass feeder with metal base. The underside of the feeder flowers have become rusty. The birds don't seem to mind, but is the rust ok? Or are there stainless type feeder flower undersides that won't rust that you could recommend?

First things first: I have enjoyed your videos in a big way -- so informative and fun. The inspiration you provide all of us is a wonderful thing!
I'd purchased the little Walmart hummingbird feeder awhile back, because of the great price. I subsequently saw one of your videos actually talking about this feeder -- it made me happy to know this one would work. I then bought several more because of that video. :) I wanted to hang them out today because I figured most of the rain was finally finished for awhile (central/northern California). I was wrong -- it's raining cats'n dogs today. Even though our trees don't have leaves yet, the hummingbirds are already out searching for food, so it feels important to get these out there for them.
What I want to know is if I put the feeders out and it rains, will enough of it get inside the feeder to dilute the nectar solution?

Where I’m from, you don’t see hundreds of hummingbirds, but my mother has a single hummingbird feeder she puts out every year and this year we see at least 7 hummingbirds a day that will come by. They have been coming by so often, we’ve had to refill the small feeder at least once a week. The one good thing about the recipe is we can make a large batch and fill it back up throughout the week. We are starting to get regulars and it’s a lot of fun see the birds whenever we are in the kitchen and can look out front.

😂 Normies debating animal care. Our father in heaven created these creatures for us to enjoy. Feed them. Care for them. Enjoy them. Thanks for the recipe I'll be feeding the humming birds in my area. 👍

There's a bird you feature at 1:39 in your video, do you know what kind of bird that is, because we now have one hanging around getting into our hummingbird nectar, can you tell me what kind of bird that is if you know or anybody knows thank you

  • @markoharoldoronearmedpoohb7816

That’s a 3-1 mixture, which I do use, but! I add Mexican sugar too, it’s cane, it’s raw I believe, I add 1 part, they love it. I did a test with my recipe and just White sugar, hands down the recipe with the Mexican sugar won! By a large margin! In late August I go to a 2-1 mixture, that gives them over 5 weeks to put on the needed weight for there long trip home! My birds are gone by the first week of October, but we get migrating birds who stop by on the way south!

1-Do not forget to wash the feeders everyday. 2- During the summer please change the water with sugar every day when the temperature goes above 85 degrees to avoid bacterial proliferation.

Just put out 2 feeders! I had them out last year but it was with the store bought stuff and they liked it for part if the year and then lost interest (theres not a ton of wild flowers around me and i saw them at my neighbors still so im assuming they didnt really like the store bought stuff very much) trying this recipe and hoping it brings them back!

Thank you so much, I’ve been getting my ratios wrong, and getting info online…I trust your instructions by far. The proof is in the pudding!
Now, I sure hope you read this! I’m getting ready to make my sugar water now, my issue is we lost our tree to a tornado a few yrs back so I hang the feeders at my kitchen window. A few in rock garden as well… the sun beats down on the feeders in the mid afternoon, gets the water hot so I change them daily..sometimes twice daily. I’m afraid the hot water or warm water from the sun will hurt them. Your opinion please about this.?

How do you keep the ants away from your hummingbird feeders? Here in Ohio, we have ants that smell that nectar a mile away & they all descend on the shepherds hook to get to the feeders!

there is a lot easier way to do this. 1 cup sugar + 4 cup unheated water (i use filtered) in a 1.4l bottle (i use the large kombucha bottles), mix by shaking, use when clear (1-2min). refrigerate rest for later. no waste of energy, time, and not a lot of dishes to wash. i am lazy🙂
