Sissy Spacek Breaks Down Her Most Iconic Characters | GQ - Развлечения
She was 27 on Carrie? Jeez, she looked 17.
IKR, Funny thing about it is she had to fight for the role because the director thought she was too old. Nowadays you get thirty years old playing high school or college students.
wait WHAT???
Dang, she looked waaay younger than 17
what??
Really??
She's aged wonderfully
The years have been kind to her
Yes she has so beautiful 😍
She has. My family loves her.
@@Woozlewuzzleable she actually did get plastic surgery to make her nose smaller and her cheekbones bigger
@@Woozlewuzzleable Lol she did nothing to her face? Look again.
I don’t think sissy gets the recognition that she deserves..
Leticia De la Cruz me either!, She gets overshadowed by Meryl Streep!, my favs are Raggedy Man, Coal Miners, and In the Bedroom
Omg raggedy man. Love that movie..
100% agree
A lamayoría del público y la prensa le gustan las artistas que dan escándalos, y Sissi no encaja en el rol. Afortunadamente
Mikhail I ❤️ Meryl in Out of Africa..
People sleep on Sissy. To me she's right up there with Streep, Sarandon, Close, et al.
She's subtle, intelligent. She's not up in peoples' faces. That may be why some don't understand her.
She definitely is; she transcends the cult following for Carrie and has solidified herself to more than just an Icon. She's a living Legend and I'm happy that they got her for this video.
Here here!!!
I definitely have, but she seems like a warm and brilliant actress!
Definitely going to check out her movies!
I met Sissy in New York .... at an event honoring the 20th anniversary of Missing. She is exactly what you see here. Charming, real, a delightful human being. I couldn't believe she talked to me for nearly 15 minutes. I loved every second of that conversation. Later that evening she introduced me as her good friend.... preceded by "what's your name again?" She's beautiful and fantastic. I love her.
I was today years old when I found out that Sissy has a southern accent
Have you seen her in any performances? She has a southern accent in all of them.
She has a Texas accent
David Kimbel me too!
**An authentic Southern accent.*
Her accent is glorious! It's so grounding and peaceful. I find most southern accents are like that.
Notice she never stopped smiling throughout this entire interview - such a beautiful and kind spirit.
dav1237 She is so darling in real life, a character all in her own. Then when she puts on her show , and you see her (Actor Soul) and she magically turns into whom she’s portraying. I never stop and think she is acting, I just believe she is that person. Wow, so Brilliant 🎆!
I feel like she never gets any props for being such the great actress she actually is. She does wonderful in all of her films.
They've tried and tried again to top her performance as Carrie. Will never happen.
Tony Eckman, it will never happen.
Chloe motets idk her name. She was so bad at the role, she looked possessed (not in a good way) and instead of scaring me she made me thought she was high.
Hers will always be the best no one can beat it. But I think the 2013 version is pretty good.
She's so pure. What a legend

She constantly implies that she’s not as big of a star as other hollywood peeps, but it’s really not about that. She just enjoys acting, and takes in her career as a life encounter. The way she describes her experiences is truly beautiful.
There are “movie stars” and there are actors. Sissy is an actor. She is a master of her craft. Love you, Sissy. ❤
“I met two young girls with Carrie tattoos. I scolded them for that...”

Hahaha
I would get one!!! The ultimate revenge story of being bullied!!

@@gojewla omg lmaoooo I am hearing her in my head
i wish she won the oscar for carrie. She nailed the role especially with the creepy eye stare at the prom scene
😊
No one will top her Carrie performance. She made the character not only scary but also managed the audience to have empathy with her
"All acting is is illuminating the human condition." She is a class act.
That's a good quote right there 💯
Wise quote
If I had to name an actress that embodied that red-blooded, blue-collared, no frills, Americana spirit, Sissy would be my first choice. She seems like someone you would meet at a grocery store in “anywhere, Kansas”). There’s just something so unpretentious and genuine about her that I admire
I checked out your homepage - so I think sissies virginity is safe
Agree. That Dolly Parton type warmth.
Sissy Spacek is still beautiful inside out ,she is truly a legend that have been in some of the best movies.Kudos to this female movie screen icon,I will never forget the movie Carrie back in the 70's.

ABSOLUTELY no matter what she'll always be CARRIE WHITE!
No, she definitely is a superstar ⭐️ awesome actor.
@@truthproductions8390 Or Loretta Lynn ❤️
She’s iconic everyone knows who she is
This series is golden.
It really is. It's basically my favorite thing on RUclips right now.
So humble, she seems to think everyone around her in movies is better than her, which is not at all the case. I really love how shes let her hair go gray, so confident its sends a good message.

Saint Martins awesome
Missing Raggedy Man
Wait what about Gilmore Girls?
Thank you :)
Sissy is my favorite actress ever. She just inhabits the characters so naturally. Doesn't even seem like acting at all.
Think it really says a lot about an older actress who's considered a minor legend when she gets excited at the memory of working with actresses who were younger and not quite as established as her. Great lady.
You guys need to ask Angela Lansbury or Julie Andrews
Maggie Smith too
Yes! Yes! And Yes!
I would love to see one with Maggie Smith. Obviously she's known for Harry Potter, but The Lady in the Van was phenomenal.
WilliamVSWilliam Productions yep + she has an amazing career behind her. She won the EGOT after all
@@strngerinldn She is an incredible woman. On screen, on stage, or just in general.
Omg yesssss💖💖
I was terrified of Sissy Spacek for years because I first saw her in Carrie when I was 8. Why my Mom let me watch that at 8 is beyond me. I avoided all her movies until I was a teenager and saw her in If These Walls Could Talk. Such an amazing actress who clearly loves her craft and isn’t doing it for fame. I love her voice and natural style too.
I believe she does films not fame but for the art of film making. She's such an incredible actress.
@Andrea «Pourquoi ta mère t‘a-t-elle laissé regarder le film?»
Elle ne l‘avait peut être tout simplement pas vu, et qu'elle ne savait pas ce qu'il y avait dedans.
Elle a pu penser en lisant le titre «Carrie», que c‘est une sorte de film pour enfants.
If you don‘t understand french: «Why did she let me watch that film?».
She simply maybe didn‘t saw the film before, and was unaware of its content. Reading «Carrie» title, she thought that was a film for kids.
I was never really scared of Carrie , I was on her on side and I felt bad for her , sissy Spacek is beautiful and my crush lol , but she is a legend
I clicked on this because I’ve always loved her but this is yet another example of how lovely and humble she is... always giving credit to others and being thankful
I loved the way she acted as Carrie.
Shame that 3 Women wasn't mentioned, amazing surreal character identity film by Altman.
Omg!!! Millie Lammeraoux puddin tarts and tuna melts yassss
I was hoping she would bring that up.
brilliant movie
One of his best films. A great movie. Should definitely have been mentioned.
Agreed! My favorite Altman film!
These are examples of why I LOVE Sissy. She is one of the most down to earth people I've ever seen.
Only a small amount of people will see this video becaude Spacek is not really a superstar, but I loved this and I wish more smaller actors/actresses did these.
She is a legend.
Smaller actress? You must be young. Cinema has been around longer than three years.
It wasn't an insult. Just compared to other people who've done these videos, she is not nearly as popular.
Also, I appreciate your ignorant condescension: I've seen over 2500 films since 1920's until now and I have seen at least a dozen Sissy Spacek movies.
I don't deny that. I love her and her movies.
Yeah, what a shame. She's a superior actress. Maybe because she doesn't run her mouth about politics, people don't see her outside of her movies.
she is one the most iconic and talented actors of our generation...I think she is right there with meryl streep. what a marvel, true talent, and a testament to pure love of craft. They show In the Bedroom in acting classes to this day.....
8:19 Sissy as Loretta Lynn holding a baby. Adorable!!!
OMG! They completely missed her greatest role of her career - Jessie Cates in "'night Mother" with the wonderful Anne Bancroft. Sissy's performance as a girl who has nothing left to live for was ground shaking.
YESSSSS! I was about to type the same thing. That movie and hers and Ann Bancroft's performances made a huge impact on my life. One of the greatest movies of all time.
"Night Mother" should have been mentioned. It's controversial and very dark. Sissy really seems to understand the character along with Anne Bancroft.
I saw this movie when it first came out and it stills makes me want to cry anytime I think about it. It evokes so many different emotions in me.
Fantastic acting in ‘night mother’ my favourite Sissy film.
Let's not forget The River or Crimes of the Heart! Great movies and performances.
Lord that movie was powerful. I’m misting up just thinking about it.
😭
Crimes of the Heart w/ Lange and Keaton!
It's rare to see an actor so genuinely excited about the movies they were in.
*THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT YOU!!!*
coy 😂🤣👏🏻
coy DUH! Duh!
Since I'm the ugly rejected underdog (as a teen and now in my fifties) the movie made me cry. I could identify with Carrie. I wish I had those powers.

"We're all sorry, Cassie"
A true icon and legend, extraordinary legendary actress. One of the true greats on film and movies.
"That's what you live for, when a scene plays you" Such a wonderful quote. I also love her enthusiasm and positivity while talking about acting and her parts. Lovely!
Love Sissy Spacek-what a superb but underrated actress!
I really enjoyed listening to Sissy Spacek reminisce about her movie roles. She has long been one of my favorite actors, she is so real. I particularly loved her role as Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner’s Daughter… so much that I honestly can’t remember how many times I’ve seen it, she was perfect in that film! She has the most wonderful honest outlook on whatever she’s talking about. What a gem.
This was so good I went and looked at GQ's selection of other conversations with actors about their characters. Unfortunately, this is the only woman. It would be great to see more women, the likes of Jessica Lange, Shirley McLaine, Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Bates etc. Other women who have a great portfolio of unique characters.
Completely agree!
I hope you see Jodie Foster’s!
@@aed2069 Jodie Foster's interview was with Vanity Fair. A lot of actresses review their films with them
JESSICA LANGE
Actually they did it, but is in the Vanity Fair channel, their sister publication.
"Martin Sheen was too old for the role"
Meanwhile, I'm realizing that wasn't Charlie Sheen, and that he looks a lot more like his dad than I thought he did.
it's funny how he and emilio both look like their dad but not each other.
*I love her, and respect her so much more after this.* ♥
Her spirit really shines through. She's a sweet, GENUINE and kind-hearted human being. We need more people like her in the world.
Carrie (1976) is one of the best horror films of all time, all because of this woman’s brilliant acting
She is SO AWESOME. I've loved her all my life--Coal Miner's Daughter is one of my favorite movies of all time.
The genuine love of her craft really shines through. She is a treasure.
Such an amazing woman and actress.
I was lucky enough to be in a movie with her and she was so kind to everyone. It left quite the impression on me.
A lot of people know her for Carrie, I know her for Coal Miner’s Daughter. Really good movie.
Eddie-She did all of her own singing and won an academy award for her spot on performance! "I may be ignorant, Doo, but I'm not Stupid!" My favorite!
Such an underrated actor!
Wish she would have been asked about her role as family matriarch Sally Rayburn in Netflix's "Bloodline" with Kyle Chandler and Ben Mendlesohn. It was one of her best roles in decades.
Omg it never occurred to me that Sissy played the mother in The Help! She looks so much older!
Wasn't she amazing in that?!
She was so good in castle rock!
Han So low I agree. Her performance was heart breaking.
My favorite movie is Coal Miner's Daughter.
WideTube-" Doo, Ima gettin' one ah my headaches..." LOVE IT!!
I agree with you.
Mine is one with Ann Bancroft, 'Night Mother
I just watched "Missing" for the first time recently! Her performance was riveting. What an incredible film
That scene in Carrie, imo, is the most iconic and unforgettable image in cinema. Everything was perfect
I've never really paid much attention to Sissy Spacek, but watching this video made me not only immediately like her, but also finally recognize her incredible talent, and to now be inspired to go watch all her films.
"Sometimes when you really really lucky you get swept up" - Sissy Spacek 😂💯
#CeazeBred yes that is the first thing she said in the video.
She’s so underrated. What a gem she is.❤️❤️
Such an icon. I love Sissy. Thank you for including her in this series. She has so much talent and experience. It's a treat to be able to hear her talk about her roles. And I love how she scolded the 2 women with Carrie tattoos... lol... that's SO her! :D
Sissy Spacek has such a unique acting talent and beauty. I've loved her ever since I saw Carrie as a kid.
Oh my goodness, what a legend!!!! The person asking her these questions was so damned lucky!!!
She is by far my favorite American actress. I adore her! All her movies, I’m so glad that her older daughter resembles her so much and pursued a musical career, the one she was not able to fulfill -but that is ok as I’m glad she pursued acting and became the icon that she is. What a wonderful lady, mother and wife too since 1974 I believe. God bless her!
CMD was my favorite movie.. I so identified with her childhood character, the restlessness of her present and hopelessness for the future... I really clung to her for that reason, but my god, that wedding night scene scarred and scared the crap outta me and would stay with me forever. I was too young at the time 🙈
I waited on Sissy Spacek, 15 years ago, at a party at a country club here in Virginia. She is a big star, but she was amazingly patient and polite. Every time I served her, she made it a point to look at me in my face and smile and say, “Thank You.” She is ‘First Class’, all the way! Love her!
Iconic is what I think of Sissy , to me, she is one of the few legends back in the old Hollywood era. Love her dearly ❤
Fantastic actress, her acting in Carrie is phenomenal.
Sissy is one the most under-rated actresses of her generation, and in spite of her stellar career she is so humble and genuine
Underrated? She won an Oscar..and was nominated 6 times
I've always liked her, but I completely fell in love with her just now. What a fascinating woman. 💜🧡💜🧡💜🧡
I feel the same; she's so engaging when talking about her roles.
finally someone iconic
What?!!! No mention of 3 Women? Shame. Sissy Spaceck is a national treasure!
*Hands down, one of the best actresses to grace the silver screen* 💯👏💯👏
We will always remember her as Carrie
Her description of what acting really is at the very beginning of the video is just spectacular.
"This guy still disses her after all those years..." lmaooooooooo sissy is so awesome
we all know Sissy Spacek's most iconic character was as Rod's mom, Marie Powell, in Hot Rod.
That movie is so funny
It makes me happy to know that Bill Hader and Sissy Spacek were in a movie together.
agreed.
brenlow Took me a while to realize that was her lol
“... he choked on some pie”
Rod: “whaaat? Come on, really?” 😂💀
How sweet and lively Sissy is.
she's still so pretty oh my god aH!
It’s nice hearing older actors/actress talk about their roles, seeing the spark in their eyes.
Why is it hard for some people to compliment a woman without mentioning her age, or calling her old?
@@Michelle-pn9xt i mentioned 'older' because they have been doing acting for a long time. also I commented on both men and women. I said 'older' not old. geez not everything is about you.
"I had to lose my southern accent."
Yeah, no, I still hear it. "Mawn-strAHsity", "tayke". lol
Sissy is such an incredible actress. Totally agree with everyone else saying she deserves more recognition.
They've been getting my favorite actors lately. Lovin it
Love you, Sissy! You are the best. I love that she didn't want to give up being Loretta Lynn!
Ditto! Her embodiment of "Lorretie" was pure genius. It's one of those movies I always watch when it's on. And I still cry when she learns about Patsy!
One of the best actress's of her generation, right up there with Streep, Lange etc. Wonderful wonderful actress and such a joy to watch!
Love you, girl. Also should have mentioned "Crimes of the Heart," she was nominated for an Oscar for that. It's a great ensemble film and she gives an unforgettably wacky performance. Who else could make an attempted suicide so endearing and amusing--"I'm havin' a bad day."
Great movie!!! Memorable role!
Absolutely! One of my favorites!
Fifty years ago she was a pretty girl; now she is a beautiful woman. And an enormously gifted actress.
She's just lovely! My ex husband always said she was the quintessential Southern white woman. So kind and that soft drawl... I love her!
Amazing!
Just LOVE Sissy! Was waiting for The River and 'Night Mother, but alas, she's been in so many marvelous projects.
One of the best actresses of all time
I could just listen to her for hours.
Her solo episode in Castle Rock, "The Queen", remains one of the most beautiful and most emotional hours of television I've ever seen. I'll be pissed if she doesn't get an Emmy nod!
Honestly, though. I thought the show kind of fizzled out a bit after that episode, but I wonder now if it was just because nothing could top what Spacek did in that episode. Such a legend.
@@GoryRory Yeah, I didn't hate the last episode as much as other people did (I was pretty satisfied with the ending tbh), but it did feel weaker compared to The Queen. This episode was so exhilarating that as soon as I finished it I thought, "there's no way the following episodes can get better than this". Unfortunately I was right.
I LOVE HER .. MY FAVORITE WAS LORETTA LYNN ( COAL MINERS DAUGHTER)
This was so good! I've always loved her - she's such a wonderful and talented actress. She also seems like a lovely person in real-life and I really enjoyed her stories about her iconic roles, some of which I haven't yet had the pleasure of seeing.
What a real life sweetheart. Usually I listen to these without watching them, browsing something in a next tab. But this one I had to watch the entire bit. I couldn't take my eyes off Sissy and what she was saying. I've only ever seen Carrie and I think I ought to watch more of her films! Also, she has a very calming, laid-back spirit!
Wish they'd mentioned "Crimes of the Heart." Every woman in my family performs Spacek's line "I'm havin' a baaaad day" as if we have a chandelier draped around our necks.
I didn't want this to end! I want to hear her speak on each of her roles! I loved her in Crimes Of The Heart with Jessica Lange & Diane Keaton. Xo
Oh it's GREAT you are now doing this with actresses too. Thank you for that, I really *love* this series of videos.
OMG how did i not know that was Sissy in the Help!!!!! Coal miners daughter is one of my all time favorites & i love carrie & the help too. I cannot believe i didnt realize that was her!
Oh, so we're just gonna ignore Pinky Rose in 3 Women?!
Capgungoesbang I was sad when I didn't see it
Enormous disappointment. Pinky is one of her greatest roles!
Yes, 3 Women is amazing as is she in it!
As much as I love Sissy and her character, Shelley DuVall owned the movie.
Gunnhild Edwards I completely agree. It just would have been nice to hear Sissy delve into her role as Pinky.
Wow, I don't know this woman, I don't believe I've seen her in a movie. She's fascinating though, she's really nice and wholesome and genuine. I'm going to watch one of these films here, her acting looks incredible.
Carrie is probably the best remembered.
She's amazing, you won't be disappointed!
She was in a hulu series called castle rock recently I liked it.
She’s a class act and a wonderful actress. Never seen a movie I didn’t like her in.
It’s your lucky day to have stumbled upon her! You’ve got some movies to watch!
When she started out she was in 'the Waltons' several times. She was a phenomenal actress even so young.
I am always glad to see anything with sissy spacek. such a wonderful actress and so many of her co-stars say she is a wonderful person. so happy someone like that is famous and still working!!
