Cleese was my favorite Python for a few years, but I have seen the errors of my ways. Idle is definitely the most funny. No disrespect to Cleese. I like him. But Idle is clearly the best.
I've alway thought Idle would be a fun guy to hang out with...he seems level-headed but mischievous at the same time. Micheal Palin seems like a very thoughtful guy (especially after watching him in the series "The Himalayas" which was excellent), more serious than funny, but still witty. Cleese seems like he'd be OK, but wouldn't suffer fools and perhaps would be a bit intimidating. Terry Gilliam would be interesting to talk to, real creative, but sort of distant and out there (??). Terry Jones seems like he'd be alright as well...more like Palin maybe. After all these years you can see that the Pythons are all very different people. I can understand why they don't hang out together that much.
Well thank God that through fate or bad luck Idle got stuck doing what he hates for a bit and we all have gotten to thoroughly enjoy his ACTING! (As well as hilarious writing!)
I've enjoyed Python (Life of Brian kind of guy myself), but I'm still surprised why I'm laughing so effing hard and literally have tears and had to take break halfway through. Is it a trip down memory lane? Is it the non-stop friendly but flippant cadence of Idle? Gold. Just gold.

@@charlie-obrien True - at least one of them was made in a serious attempt not to lose George Harrison his house. Highly successful on that front - and several others.
I honestly love his description of comedy acting vs. "emotional" acting right at the beginning; acknowledging that there are differences between the two styles, in a way that doesn't put either above the other (besides the "real" acting comment, which I interpret more as self-deprecation than genuine commentary).
I saw "The Meaning of Life" at the theater when it came out. The theater was packed and I never experienced an audience reaction like that before or since. We howled with laughter, literally falling out of our seats. I'm sure the people in adjacent theaters heard us and realized they'd picked the wrong movie.
A comedic superstar... so naturally funny all the way. Seems like a really nice person as well.. much respect
I'd watch any video about eric idle. If he made a video where he separates his laundry I'd watch it.
now i want to watch that
Idle idling idolization? Surely you can't be serious?
I am serious. And don't call me shirley.
thats because eric could make something as simple as laundry funny enough to make you cry laughing if you give him five minets to come up with a bit... I'd watch too!!
You're a loony.
I was fortunate enough to be playing in an orchestra in Brisbane, Australia when Eric came on stage and did a perfect impression if Bob Dylan, harmonica and all.
He's also the inspiration for Rincewind the wizard in the Discworld series; the man is a legend :)
Love this man! Even when breaking down his characters he can't stop joking around! Must have been total chaos when they all where together doing "Flying Circus"!
Eric is giving so many props to his MP costars, but I always thought he was the most talented of the crew. He made me laugh more consistently than the rest of them...even when he wasn't speaking. His magnetic presence and jovial energy were so palpable.
I love Eric Idle! His songs are absolutely wonderful. Look on the bright side of life is tremendous!
Eric is a true example of the saying that you may grow old, but never grow up.
For a writer who says he's not an actor, he really can act~ He's hilarious in Life of Brian.
Eric was about one of my first celebrity crushes strangely enough
Cleese was my favorite Python for a few years, but I have seen the errors of my ways.
Idle is definitely the most funny. No disrespect to Cleese. I like him. But Idle is clearly the best.
I feel John has kind of lost his edge in recent years.
Graham Chapman.
I'd have to rate Gilliam, just for his role as the jailer in Life of Brian.
All are great, but He has the funniest face.
Palin rules.
Just here to post my LOVE for the Monty Python Crew! Stars! Genius people! Thank you for all the hilarious moments!
Eric you changed my life as a kid. I stayed up late once a week to watch Python on PBS.
His documentary voice sounds like David Attenborough
That was the point.....
I think you nailed 'em (pun intended). 😂🤣😂😁
I’ve been a fan since I was ten years old. Thank you for over 50 years of laughs and unforgettable memories, Mr. Idle.
Love Monty Python and Idle is amazing
Loved this! He’s so brilliant at doing voices, it’s crazy that he enjoys writing more than acting.
What a fabulous man, so talented and humble at the same time.
God bless you Eric, you brought so much laughter to our lives for all those years of Python you did.
Well thank God that through fate or bad luck Idle got stuck doing what he hates for a bit and we all have gotten to thoroughly enjoy his ACTING!
(As well as hilarious writing!)
Eric Idle has always been my favorite Python. This was a delight.
I've enjoyed Python (Life of Brian kind of guy myself), but I'm still surprised why I'm laughing so effing hard and literally have tears and had to take break halfway through.
Is it a trip down memory lane? Is it the non-stop friendly but flippant cadence of Idle?
Gold. Just gold.
His gleefulness is infectious. By the end I was in a great mood.
Should be prescribed as the National Elf...
I just love this guy! He and his python buddies flipped the comedy world on its ear and made it infinitely funnier.
my favorite Monty Python!!... the musician... George Harrison's great friend... I love him :) I've always thought he looked quite alike Gene Wilder
'Specially when he was younger
I love Eric and Monty Python. His portrayal of Paul McCartney in the Rutles never fails to crack me up.
Thank you Eric for thousands of laughs and smiles. After watching this, I feel like we are old friends. A musician friend of mine, Gavin Pring, met you when you were tossing around the idea of a Rutles Stage musical. I was always jealous of that. And his better looks. And his larger ..... ego.
His David Attenborough is flawless 😂. All the Pythons are national treasures!
I love him in everything he's done. Him and John Clease are absolute legends
OH MY GOD THEY DID ONE WITH ERIC IDLE
Barney Os. I came here to day thissss
I was also pleasantly surprised :D
THOSE BASTARDS!
Monty Python is an absolute national treasure. Their movies are truly timeless.
*global
For me his most iconic character was Roger the Shrubber.
I like whenever he plays a guy who's both very formal but also a good guy. he sells it.
I shall welease woger
And Dirk McQuickley.
What about Loretta?
I design, arrange and sell shrubberies
My English father was determined to educate his American kids n their heritage, and that meant watching British TV on PBS. Which introduced me to Dr. Who and Monty Python. Eric Idle is a treasure, and this was so much fun to listen to.
Eric Idle, you’ve still got the voice...er ...voices!
There are so many Elvis stories, this one of the best.
This is my favorite video of this series. He's such a happy friendly adorable person! Love him! 💕💖😍
His so confident. I think he doesn't care about anything.
Always been a Python fan and a Presley fan, and to hear that Elvis adored Monty Python made me feel more connected to both instantly
16:16 "The meaning of life we had the most trouble with... because we didnt know what it was about"... THAT is just so Pythonesque!!!
Casper: "I don't remember much about it"
Well, that really breaks that character down!
