One of my first ever “purchased a whole bottle single malts” was a Dalmore 15. Being honest, I was drawn in by the pretty silver stag. Ha, haven’t bought another in 10 years of drinking whisky. It’s amazing what a bit of marketing and presentation does for you.

Where I live, I can get two bottles of Arran 14 and a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 for less than the price of Dalmore 18. Why did I mention Wild Turkey 101? It’s a better Scotch than Dalmore 18 and it’s in no way, shape, or form a Scotch.

A group of friends bought me a bottle of this a few years ago. They knew I was into single malts and they thought this was the best bottle they could find for the price. Obviously I was very grateful but it's a shame that bottle presentation is perceived as quality when there are far better whiskies for the money. I've since had the glenfarclas 12 and reach for that more so than the Dalmore. It was also recommended to me and i wanted to try that style. Will I buy another? Doubt it. Am I glad i did? Yes. I think their all unique. Springbank 15, dalmore 15, glenmorange 18, Johnny Walker, buchanans 18 and etc. So many amazing whiskeys. It comes down to what you like. Whiskey is whiskey, just in different categories. Dalmore 18 has it's own category. Love it. Thanks for the review and cheers.

    • @justinafuchs2619
      @justinafuchs2619 3 месяца назад

Eh, nope. Sorry, that’s just attempting to “dilute” the concept of quality. Of course every whisky is “unique”, that doesn’t say too much.
But quality wise there’s a huge difference between Springbank 15 and Dalmore 15 or Johnny Walker.
Sure, drink what you like. And if you like Dalmore 15 or Johnny Walker, go for it. It’s your choice, it’s your palate, it’s your money.
“It depends on what you like” - Well, I like good quality. Craft presented whisky, unchill filtered, no artificial colour added, bottled at 46 % or more. Matured in good, active casks and so on .. There are so many whiskies checking those boxes. And so many don’t ..

Hi Ralfy. 10yo vintage annual releases are good alternative for this sanitized standard OBs from Dalmore. I've got Vintage 2008 at the moment, it's natrally light in colour, 46 ABV and unchillfiltered, although none of this is stated on the label. It's only "Farven justered med karmel" missing from the back label where it resides on the standard OBs ;) Anyway, it's pretty good natural presented stuff!

My wife bought me the Dalmore King Alexander flagship for Christmas some years ago, when prices still circled around 90,-€. She really meant well. - Let's say I was rather underwhelmed for that premium price, which has even doubled since. I kept the stag emblem as a souvenir, but avoided Dalmore ever since. Best thing I can say about Dalmore upon asking is to give a hint on Richard Paterson´s highly entertaining way of tasting and talking whisky. I can't take him seriously, but he gives a joyful show. Kind of sums up the flattering, sugar-coated, over-engineered sherry experience that is Dalmore to me.

Ralfy , what is your view on the new release of Glenlivet 18?
They recently went down from 43% to 40% and seem to have increased the price slightly, along with a (in my opinion) strange design-choice of the bottle.
I watched the whisky turntable (German) and as far as I can decipher, both the nose and the palate has changed, "but only slightly". (the comments were full of displeased Germans)
I had it on my shortlist of whiskies to buy and try, but now I am not sure.

I might be wrong, but in my head: Dalmore is a brand of whisky that's for people that do not like whisky. For those people: by Irish! Eg. Teeling. It will not be hard on your wallet, and it's high quality.

83/100 for an 18 year old with an asking price of well over £100. thats a poor score for an integrity malt - for a basic malt, forget it!. in a way im glad brands like dalmore exist. they act as a diversion for the bling brigade. even entry level springbanks would be near impossible to find outside the auctions if they as a collective became switched on to the integrity distillers / bottlers.

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Dalmore. I find it not worth the money in general. There are better brands which are cheaper. Wish I could see the whisky without the added color, just out of curiosity. In my humble opinion it wouldn't be necessary to add. It could be higher in percentage. But boy, I do really really do like the Dalmore Cigar Malt. There is something with this one I really like.

The Arran single malt is only available at one sercret location at a restaurant in my area. I got a dram. 90 out a hundred all day long. I will and have always avoided Dalmore. Way too expensive and that hideous color raises the red flags. Im not against trying it but im not a millionaire. Get bent Dalmore!

Dalmore King Alexander is excellent, however, the price point is in the realm of absurdity, right up there with Blue Label. If you can find a bottle of their older Gran Reserva collecting dust somewhere, it's an absolute winner, and used to be available at $60 US. For me, the sheer amount of caramel coloring that they add to their entire lineup is a major turn off.

the fact that every expression of Dalmore has the same orange- glowy tan, you have to say the're very consistent when it comes to ading E 150 A. they even did that to their 51 yo they just released. Now, I am never going to drink that (probably), but why woud you do such a thing? If I ever buy Dalmore, it's an IB, because they do produce some lovely stuff, it's just what they do with it that puts me off.

The biggest problem with Dalmore official bottlings is that they all have a nose that writes a check that the taste and finish cannot possibly cash. I always enjoyed the noses on Dalmore but the taste and finish leaves me simply disappointed.
