I think the humanizing is good. Do they have some bad takes, yes, but they're still people. Maybe that's Sacha Baron Cohen's message in those parts. That we shouldn't just hate people for one bad take. Throughout the movie Borat is shown the error in his ways and then at the end is a better person. Why not assume the other people could become better as well?

    1) They should seriously push a Supporting Actress Awards campaign for Maria Bakalova. It is a fearless, genius comedic performance.
    2) While Matt says Cohen backed himself into a corner by showing the humanity of some of the people he encounters I completely disagree. I think that is what makes this one work so well and differentiates itself because as Alonso said yes all the bigotry is out in the open now so this shows that as crazy as the QAnon dudes are who let him stay with them, they were also deep down kind of nice people. The woman who babysits his daughter has great compassion. And none of you mentioned what I thought was the best part was when he goes to see the old Jewish ladies and as offensive as his costume is and the things he says, she greets him so warmly and just talks to him on a personal level about why his misconceptions are not the truth.
Agree wasn't as funny or shocking as the first but still very good thanks to changing it up a bit with it not being all about shock and the addition of Bakalova.

      1) Completely agree, she was just great and the transformations she goes through make her the shining start of the movie.
      2) Also agree, I found that to be interesting to show, Sarah Silverman did a similar thing, where she would go to these ultra conservative people and show us, but also them that they are not really as different as we and them assume. Deep down we all kinda want the same, its often just buying into a message that gets you to the extremes, often linked to loss of wealth and opportunities makes it easier for these people to cling to something that speaks to them. As Cypher said, he doesnt care if the steak is not really as long as he is tricked into thinking it is and that is true for many of these people, all they want is to feel good and validated, even if they are tricked into it.

Cohen has acknowledged that the QAnon people he stayed with, while deeply misguided, are not fundamentally bad; that is part of what we are supposed to take away from the movie. As for Matt's question, he answered that on Good Morning America. He burst in when he did because he didn't want any harm to come to Bakalova.

Not as funny as the first, which is impossible but the ending was good and probably had the biggest fish Cohen has ever tricked on any of his shows. America really needs to question the intelligent of the people who work in their politics

The story was solid, humanizing the terrible was smart and sweet. The reverse girl power created the biggest laughs. Alonzo’s take made lots of sense, it is hard to laugh at just terrible people but getting average people to do questionable things without batting an eye was a point well made. The female character was really elevated to be the star and she deserves a best supporting for it. Showing the humanity of the babysitter was powerful and showing that the two conspiracy guys looked out for women, acknowledged the rights of everyone being equal to their own and helping out a stranger, not just tolerating him but befriending him. There are some huge laughs, a very clever story arc, some disgusting jokes and a new young shining star. Watch both movies back to back, you’ll appreciate Cohen’s breadth of humor over the last 20+ years.

He explained that he reached a point where he felt that he had to do something politically motivated. Enough time had passed that the character would not be instantly recognized, and more important, Borat was needed. SBC is actually (believe it or not) a highly intelligent guy who tries to use his satire to improve society. There's a lot going on beneath the surface of his juvenile humor, and he's not someone who's primarily motivated by money.

@@VicenteTorresAliasVits Buddy I fucking watched it. It's not what the screenshot makes it look like.
She says she's nervous, he tries to make her feel better by cracking jokes. She keeps touching his knee whenever she laughs. After the interview and a stupid little bit with Sascha she invites to the bedroom for drinks, because it's where the bar is in these rooms. He goes to pull off his microphone, because the interview is over, and she helps him cause his dumb ass is pulling the wrong way.
His shirt comes untucked when she does it. He leans back to tuck it in (the viral photo) and seconds after he leans back Borat bursts in dressed like a hooker and Rudy goes full GTFOH.
