110% about the ending! I didn't mind the lack of control, but I felt like it had made its point 20 minutes beforehand. But that final shot... so, so great.

It'll be nice to see Demi Moore get some award love/nominations. She's an underrated actress even when her movies have not been the greatest. fun fact: both Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley's mother (Andi McDowell) got their big starts in acting with Saint Elmo's Fire... which you recently re-reviewed.
Eating lunch at Chipotle before seeing The Substance was a bad choice..."MONSTRO ELISASUEEEEEEEEE!!!" *great job by Demi, Margaret, Quaid, the SFX Make-up crew, the Foley crew in this relentless body horror epic!
From a brainwashed hippie (OUTIH) to a sexpot lesbian (Drive Away Dolls) to a struggling mom living in poverty (Maid) to now this, Margaret Qualley is still early in her career but has already chosen some very cool and interesting roles that show her range. She is fast becoming of my favorite actresses working today.
Demi Moore is promised this younger self. But she continues in her old body and this complete stranger emerges as the young version. Demi Moore is supposed to be both versions but it seems she still identifies only as her old self.
Exactly. It is flawed! No benefit for the older character so why did she persist with the process? Also all she had was a phone number to get substance. How did she pay? Or was it free?
Best movie of the year so far! I was utterly blown away! I know the Oscars have their horror bias but this should be at LEAST nominated for Best Makeup because holy shit!
Enjoyed your review! Seeing this tomorrow. I'm only slightly concerned about Christy's line about people who don't like blood. I see a lot of horror films but I'm not good with blood in real life, so I'm hoping I get through it okay.
I loved this flick. It's essentially an exploitation arthouse movie and it's a huge miracle that it even got made. I agree that it went bananas in the end, but it's one of my favorites of the year so far. The practical eft were brilliant -- a mix of The Thing, Basket Case, and The Fly. This would be an amazing double feature with Infinity Pool. Good stuff.
I was sold the first time I saw the trailer. Like Alonso mentioned, it reminded me of a Black Mirror episode or something, but that was fine with me. (I love Black Mirror! Haha!) But then some critics started talking about it, how cool and unusual it is, and I got more excited for it! Got my ticket for Saturday!
It reminded me also of a female version of the lighthouse , especially during the fight scene and how the actors get into a tug of war of power and control, and just like lighthouse takes place mostly in one location
Great movie. You guys got one right 😛 It's a little long and could have benefited from some trimming, but it was still fascinating. Demi Moore's best performance ever. I'm jaded when it comes to movie gore, so I was able to look past it and allow the comedy to hit me. It's really funny underneath all the blood.
I loved it til the last 20 minutes. Alonso, I too thought of Basket Case. 😂 The performances were great. So much to talk about and look forward to your spoilers review.

I FINALLY got to see it on the big screen and never was a film more worthy of all the effort I had to make in order to avoid everything a could about it, especially given the sensation it has provoked !!! Has ever a casting been more perfect than Demi in this one??? Her own personal past struggles bring an even further level of depth for those of us who have followed her entire career!! Yes, agree about the ending but it's a minor minor quibble and I think we all agree that it totally earns the drawn-out ending which certainly underscores the degree of inner violence such unrealistic beauty standards often creates in women (and men too the film also cleverly touches on) and how that "sprays" out into society staining all those around us!!!
I first saw Ms. Qualley in Shane Black's preponderantly underrated The Nice Guys in 2016:)Pretty sure QT did as well:)This movie reminds me of The Neon Demon piled up with body horror of Cronenberg-DePalma:)
I would say I'm like Alonso this worked for me on all levels up until the final act, nevertheless, I loved it, I think this is probably a film that in years to come will be the best representation of the social media era in the ozempic craze, it captures such this specific moment in time not only in the way that it approaches the subject matter but also in the filmmaking its fast editing, hard cuts, intense music, it seems to be made with a kinda "digestible for the tiktok generation" sensibility.
@@roccocupido5082 not in this case, where the film weaponizes all these techniques to make a piece that is actively critisizing all of that, I feel at least, again I liked the film a whole lot, but see it for yourself, you totally must.
@@adamjimenez9003 well here is what makes being a film buff fun..films like this come along and raise radically different opinions .but I stand by that it was a real mistake to cast someone like Moore who has already visibly done to herself what the film warns against
@@roccocupido5082 ufff gonna disagree totally on that one chief, i think it was a great choice cause it works for where she is at and she is totally still hot, it would be fun to find out all the combos that were up for the role, what i do know is that the Quaid role was supposed to be Ray Liotta and i can totally see it
I did enjoy the film glad to see Demi Moore working again, she has always had that it factor that made her a true movie star. And the body and face look great at 50 plus. Not gonna lie that third act almost took me out lol and I had to close my eyes to get through it. Grulll I got the point it was rough. Still good 👍🏾
There are apartments like that in Los Angeles. It's just that most of us can't afford them. Also That's not the kind of snow that you find on Hollywood Boulevard
When he says, “How is that an apartment?”, for me the whole story is more a fairy tale than trying to depict a true reality to any actual environment whether it’s an apartment or Los Angeles.
We talked about that a bit in our Saturday coffee livestream. We thought it might be too weird, but then we also thought Poor Things (which we loved) would be too weird, and look what happened there.
@@DavidPence-lr4kj best actress would be very cool, just like Sigourney Weaver back in Aliens. But this year is another ultra competitive year for the lead actress category I'm afraid.
@@BreakfastAllDay Poor Things grotesqueries, I felt, never felt overly heavy and therefore more palatable to the academy members. Also benefited from the stature of Yorgos himself.
Best film of the year! 9.5/10. Fantastic performances, one of Demi Moore’s best performance. The score, cinematography, story… it was extremely gory, gruesome, darkly funny. Margaret Qualley was great. The movie was a bit too long, a bit tiresome, and repetitive. But one of the best films of the year nonetheless.
I definitely took it as the pursuit of perfection is a lose/lose. And the most tragic part for me was when gifted with this “perfect” version of herself she just decided to go back to the horrific producer who fired her in the first place. Going right back to system that chewed her up and spat her on the pavement. Also, the score absolutely thumped.
Saw it today I thought of it as a coming to end age love story gone wrong. Anything could happen and a battle between addiction or death and surviving abnormals. It was about as gorgeous and stylized and vibrant as unexpected and definitely was trying to say something
OHH well if you love it I definitely HAVE to see it so I stopped the video immediately 'cause I prefer not to know anything!!! I'll come back after I see it, unfortunately not until 6 Nov here!!

Adam.. everything you said here is the very opposite of PRAISE..
Could it possibly transcend genre and compete at the Oscars??
We talked about that a bit in our Saturday coffee livestream. We thought it might be too weird, but then we also thought Poor Things (which we loved) would be too weird, and look what happened there.
If it doesn’t happen for AT LEAST makeup and actress I’ll riot! What they pull off with the makeup and Demi’s performance is remarkable
@@samtan4729 All good points!
Thinking about Christy while seeing this, and Alonso 💔 trying to be like Margaret now 😩😭😁💁🏻
i liked this film. i was confuse at first that Sue it was Kathryn Newton
Visceral, but in the end a weaker Helter Skelter (ヘルタースケルター).
I love the movie! I look forward to your spoiler review!
Loved it but the different versions didn't share the same consciousness, so what was in it for Elisabeth?
Come to our spoiler chat on Tuesday at Noon Pacific and let's talk about that!
It was the perfect accompaniment.
I can't really do blood and gore.... based on some promo images I've seen, I don't think this movie is for me.
It's a lot! Probably a good call, Jane.
Chose to see this over watching the jets game last night 100 % made the correct decision the movie was so good I don't even care who won
10 out of 10.
Looks so good!
Just saw the movie tonight. I think I need therapy after seeing it. Or at least I need you to do a live stream so I can work through my PTSD with you.
Just saw fish jelly talk about it
We always enjoy them, they're lovely guys.
Saw it today I thought of it as a coming to end age love story gone wrong. Anything could happen and a battle between addiction or death and surviving abnormals. It was about as gorgeous and stylized and vibrant as unexpected and definitely was trying to say something
Great movie par the last 10mins, but really kept me captivated.
Necesito ver esta movie, saludos desde Costa Rica, pura vida.
Claro! Gracias por mirar nuestro video.
OHH well if you love it I definitely HAVE to see it so I stopped the video immediately 'cause I prefer not to know anything!!! I'll come back after I see it, unfortunately not until 6 Nov here!!
