  • Howdy folks! Today we're continuing with Getting Organised and - in homage to the Invictus festivities - we're looking to build a Ground Combat Org! In Getting Organised we look at building suitable fleets for orgs of 5, 30 and 100 people. I love the discussions and debate that comes out of these so please give building your own fleet a go and drop a comment with your suggestions.
    Check out hangar.link/fleet/canvas where you'll find the fantastic Fleetviewer tool by Starjump. This really helps visualise your ideas.

    I was thinking as supplement for this series, you could just generally investigate the points at which an org can and/or needs to have larger ships, like, when the bigger ships stop being more hindrance than help, and when not having the bigger ship becomes a hinderance.

    Okay, before I go any further, have a word with UEE Pathfinders. They are, without a doubt the most professionally organised ground force org I've found.
    Right, as long as you do that bit, I'll just let you know that I've been sharing your chan with others here and elsewhere. This is because your approach is what we call "canny".

    An Endeavor with the hospital module could be a good addition as a respawn point. It may have changed by now, but old info says it's going to be the only mobile respawn point. Or, perhaps, it will be the only OPEN respawn but tier 1 beds would be respawn points, as well, if you interact with them first. We will see.
    Also, I saw a video from Attira Kell, who is in the army, talking about supply chains for Star Citizen. It's not as easy as to throw a couple of resupply ships and that's it. It requires a lot of organization to resupply troops in the front lines. Who is going to provide food, weapons ammo? From where? Carried on what? Loaded and protected by whom?
    Keep in mind that in WWII, for every man fighting in the front lines there were 7 people in the supply chain. In Star Citizen it won't be that much, I'm sure, but it has tl br taken into consideration nonetheless.

    My main org already has all kinds of assets but I feel they are short on logistic support ships. Since everyone else has combat or trading ships, I have focused my collecting on all ships related to logistics. That started with a Crucible and a Starfarer with other resource gathering ships added to keep those servicing ships supplied.

    I think that swapping out the Redeemer for a Prowler might be a nice choice depending on the mission requirements.
    It gives a stealth dropship option able to quickly and quietly move around a not insubstantial amount of heavily armed Angry people that could be used for a variety of tasks.
    While you would lose the Redeemer's Firepower you'd gain that Stealth ability which is missing from the 100 Person fleet, and one could argue that between the Twin Valks and the A1s/A2 You might have enough Ground support firepower for at least some missions.

    A couple Perseus' loitering overhead doing precision gun strikes with the dual size 7 lower turret, would be a beneficial anti-armour addition. The upper turret would allow for aerial protection from larger ships, and to engage enemy bombers before they reach your lines.

    1. dont buy a starter pack "to see if you like it". if you cant handle bugs in games dont even bother buying until release.
    2. not directed towards the video but i wish the community wanted more than COD in space.
    good vid series.

    • @LoudGuns
      @LoudGuns  Год назад +1

      My recommendation was I believe clearly in the context of “don’t go buy an M2 because I say it’s a useful ship, buy a starter if you’re already committed”. And tbf I think one of SC’s strengths is that there’s all sorts of niches - a small % of the community probably so want battlefield in space, but they’re probably a small group vs everyone else.

    I would love them to buff the AA vehicles so we don't have to dream about it. MY hypothesis is that buffing both the Ballista and the Centurion will change everything dramatically.
    Just 2 vehicles for a huge change with ground objectives.
    No one will question the usefulness of NOVA's, Storms, Spartains if it's main role is to take out AA vehicles.
    Anti Air just needs to really be able to do it's job so effectively that you have no other choise but to take them out from the ground (if you have no bombers).

    I think the liberator will be able to carry a bunch of more capable ships, such as the scorpius, having that increased firepower will grant you more protection specifically in an escort enviroment where mobility is not as important. With the caviat that you'll need 2 more personell to man the turrets.

    There are just limitless amount of roles you can do with a viarity of loadouts and ships, I love that about SC.
    For the 100 man i would suggest a Polaris as a flagship, it has the capabilities to retrieve heavily wounded people and the Size 10 Torps are just guarenteed to scare an evenly sized group.
    Maby an Perseus? Maby for some heavy ground pound or harrasment. But LOVE your composition, realy good and effective

  • @andrewfanner2245
    @andrewfanner2245 Год назад +1

    Perhas a little light recon, STV based for that minimal signature factor and the tiny size meaning they dont really hit your carrying capacity that much.
    You are going to be very dependant on resupply for your heavy hitters with their missiles and ballistic weapons and with quantum travel you may not have a great deal of time to reacrt and protect your supply lines, you might consider something a bit more "tanky" or with fast kill capacities as top cover or at the very least that the logisitcs core stays in orbit unless actually invvolved in supply. One A2 getting through to your supply force on the ground could upset things.

    • @LoudGuns
      @LoudGuns  Год назад +1

      Yeah one of the things I find the most revealing about doing these is that actually 100 people still invariably has gaps in any niche formation. And I think the danger is you could get so spread out that you’re effectively 80 people supporting a ground force of only 20! In reality I think outside of orgs in the 300-400+ range you’re going to end up with gaps.

      @@LoudGuns there seems to be a bit of an assalt transport gap, the Liberator is a bit "sortakinda" in the respect (and as long standing Blakes 7 fan its the worng shape!) Its a play level I very much hope we shall see and not just squabbling over JT but proper take, hold and exploit resouce control.

    Only comment is that I think the 100 person and maybe even the 30 need some dedicated scouting ships, Hornet tracker or Terrapin or both. Dont want to move that many assets towards an engagement without knowing exactly what's there.

  • @bizibetikko2725
    @bizibetikko2725 Год назад

    I bought a Legionnaire to compliment my Galaxy (medical) and use it as a dropship returning recently healed (or respawned) team mates to the frontline or, more likely, a FOB. As I understand it a Legionnaire will remain docked to a ship even during quantum travel. It will also allow the C8R to stay dedicated to it's role and not have to act as a shuttle. I also think that it might be possible squeeze a 2nd C8R on to the med bay cargo lift.

    I hope I didnt miss it (was listening to this in the background), but I recommend considering a Mustang Delta as a recon and close air support (CAS) fighter. Excellent visibility to the ground and rocket pods to attack soft targets of opportunity. Also, should receive armor in the future that will increase its durability.

  • @Meuduso1

    I think it's no secret to say that CIG sadly suck at designing and implementing most ground vics. The few that I wouldn't consider a flat out failure are the Centurion, Ballista, Ursa, Lynx and STV and maybe the PTV. The Centurion especially suffers from the limited range all kinds of projectiles travel, which is imo the main reasons it is not able to actually hold down an airspace at a distance and needs a Ballsita with it, even though that shouldn't be necessary.
    -The Cyclones doesn't have a closed canopy for now reason, even though the Fury seems to have no problems with that. The Cyclone AA only having 2 S2s basically makes it useless as well.
    -The Spartan highlights the immense size issue the Atlas Chassis has in general but makes it way worse by being a 17 meter (!!!) long APC that only transports 8 people. For comparison, a Bradley is 7 meters long, The Spartan is just a ridiculous vic that should by all means be completely remade, NOT using the Atlas chassis.
    -The Nova's size isn't even my main problem, that one's honestly just a balance thing, it's why the size of the Centurion and Ballista are fine because their capability reflects their size. No, the Nova fails in all other regards. No ground clearance, no coaxial anti-infantry weapon for the gunner, zero traction, zero ability to climb over obstacles, no zoom on the gunner sights, no ballistics computer or laser range finder and worst of all, the ammunition is extremely slow. The manual aiming isn't a problem on short ranges, it's a problem at ranges you actually engage with all other weapons.
    -The space bikes are all just not my taste because I don't enjoy hovertech but they're also still deathtraps.
    And in comes the Storm, which at least doesn't repeat the size mistake but still has zero ground clearance and will probably lack all other features the Nova has as well.
    The biggest issue imo really is the Spartan though because it is entirely too big and useless. You'd think that a company that makes the Valkyrie would create a normal sized APC or IFV that would fit into the Valk but no. As much issues as the Valkyrie has, this one isn't on the ship.
    Furthermore the STV highlighted how stupid it is that the ground vics use ship components. Standardization is good, don't get me wrong, but if this means an immense increase in size JUST so that some components can be fit and are accessible, that's just not worth it. More bespoke components would probably allow a lot of these vics to have appropriate sizes

  • @doodlePimp
    @doodlePimp Год назад

    I don't think this kind of planning makes much sense. It all depends on the target and the environment. The only serious loadout limit will be centered around the bigger support ships that can be difficult to transport around between systems.
    You also need to consider that once the game is further along NPCs can be used to cover the basics on bigger ships. This can drastically change which ships are viable.

  • @alwayssearching4760

    M2 is a useless ship as long as you can fly a A2. Sure you may not need the moab, but you can determine that. Why not have the choice? When everyone looks in the sky and sees a hurcules the question we care about isnt if its a M2, but is it a A2!?
