Just got back into mining before the 3.19 ptu patch dropped, been a few years since I did mining. Enjoying myself again taking out the. mole, with a few friends. Thank you for this summary and I'm looking forward to your Extensive guide in the future, great video as always.
Thanks for this early analysis. I am the Industries Flight Leader for my org, and we are scrambling to collect data as well, but I VERY much appreciate the head start. (you have a new Patreon supporter as well!) Keep up the great work!

Hello LoudGuns, I have grown hyper critical of youtube content creators of late. The reason is that so much "content" is really garbage wasting my time. I have even been giving thumbs down, and pulling my subscriptions. In this case, however, you get a thumbs up, the video saved to my SC folder, and this is the best mining I have seen. Very glad to have this video as a reference. I watched start to finish. Very well done. Thank you.
There is one simple reason I will always prefer the Prospector over the MOLE. SC really hates my mouse wheel for some reason lol. It doesn't matter how gentle I am with it, sometimes it will adjust the laser power by 1% at a time, and sometimes it will jump it by 15-50% at a time. I find that I do a lot better by setting the power about where I need it and then varying my distance from the rock I'm cracking for finer control of the charge level. That's something you just can't do in a MOLE even with a good and responsive dedicated pilot.
Awesome thanks! You taught me my 1st time mining and now reteaching me on new info. I love your info sheets. I still have your old stat sheets you produced, I laminated them for safe keeping.
Thank you very much for this breakdown. I took out my Prospector in 3.19.0 PTU for the first time last night. I tried a session with a stock Arbor and no modules or gadgets, just as a new miner might just starting out with a rental or newly purchased Prospector. I looked for rocks on Wala and in band 5 of the Aaron Halo. While I didn’t find anything I could crack on Wala in the short time that my impatience allowed me to scan, I filled my 32 SCU in the Halo with commodities valued for raw sale at Arc L1 at about 17K aUEC. I’ll know potential value tonight after my refining order is done, and I sell it at the best price locations. Disclaimer, although I mined some Quant in previous updates, I never went out looking for Quant exclusively, and always tended to just filling my bags with the most materials I could sell in the shortest amount of time. My whole philosophy is that EVERYTHING you mine, except inert, has value, and I couldn’t care less about “Maximum aUEC per hour.” I will be awaiting your subsequent vids with bated breath!
17:00 the change to surge is to stop people from breaking big rocks regardless of what the mass is. (if you can even move the bar. then you can keep it in the green if the surge got you to the green)
Great review. Thanks. I haven't played SC since before Christmas. My main thing is mining and it had become quite dull. This sounds absolutely fantastic and i can't wait to take out my Prospector and discover how all of the gear works. Brilliant job.
Fantastic first look into the new mining and thank you. Just what I need to get the ball rolling and get back into mining. Personally I start to enjoy mining less and less because of the abundance of quantum and the racing nature of rushing back and fourth because of time constraints. Ok for a run or two but I wanted more time in the field, more mining less traveling. Also enjoy the searching for the right rock so I think these changes are perfect for me. Good job on the video.
When you make your tables, please can you indicate which direction is positive and which is negative? Saying -30% is all well and good, but saying which way you want it to go (in the header) will help those of us that are stoopid. ;) Nice, informative video though. Thank you.
Gr8 info and summary m8 thank you. Aware stats are preliminary and may change but still sounds like an interesting challenge and anything to make the MOLE gr8 again is a welcoming change in my book.
Nice summary of the changes. My main qustion would be: Is mining with a rental prospector going to be a viable way to work your way up to buying your own? Right now renting a prospector feels mostly like a trap to me.
With the ability to detach and swap components now, you can place other mining heads with sub components on a rented Prospector. Although you might need to know someone with a Prospector to get the purchased alternatives off of since until Freight Elevators are added there isn't a way to easily move things into and out of inventories.
Mining feels far more challenging, just from what you've covered. I'm excited that mining is no longer all quantanium. I guess I should save up for a Prospector.
i tryed mining after long time and first thing i did was take mole salvage mission and got my prospector bigger bags and then i had to get impact-1 laser and i have to say that after the new mining changes it was hard to find minable rocks for prospector and when you did it was still hard to brake those little rocks.
Yeaaaaaaaaaah Nerds for the win!!! So looking forward to your next guide, when ever it's ready. I made Millions using your last one as the starting point for my good times. Cheers
Rip Lancet, the king is dead, long live the king, lol. Though I think the Lancet will still have a place on a Mole but going need to get into the PTU and build up my mole to know for sure. Skipped most of 3.17 and all of 3.18 when I found out that they were planning this rework in 3.19 and it doesn't appear to have disappointed at all. For the build for a fully crewed Mole I want to try it is going to be Lancet (Focus III and XTR-XL), Arbor (Torrent III and Surge/Rieger-C3) and Klein (Torpid), negatives are cancelled out, got a way to bring forth more power, and an oh shit button in case someone falls asleep at the laser, or if they forget there's no zeroing out anymore. Happy mining!
As my testing has come about I've noticed that the size 1 heads that had 3 consumable slots have been tuned to 2 slots. And two slot heads have been dumped to one slot. Size 2 heads have held the three slots that they had before. Now the MASS system I've noticed have changed also. Since I've always been a Helix 1 head miner in the Prospector I decided to see how I could crack it up. I was doing 35000 mass gold and corundum rocks. Man I'll say that tight little go charge and the high overcharge line is a bit of a trick but it can be done with a little finese heating. But so far I haven't had sweet breaks most are mixed with inert intermixed.
I have watched all your mining vids, some many times. Thank you for this early look and the work you put into it. I just wish they would add a gadget that is a beacon, so you can mark for yourself or a friend the location of juicy rocks. Allow it to run for 1 hour or until the rock is gone. Maybe some day ;)
Thanks for this breakdown, really interesting changes. Unfortunately, I haven’t had chance to get into the PTU with 3.19 yet. Has this release brought any other changes to ROC mining?
I'm not sure if it is intended or not, but I just put 4 of the Argo 12scu ore sacks onto my Prospector for a total of 48scu. I was able to fill them up and sell the ore at the refinery
These changes do sound really exciting! I really hope the meta does move towards non-explosive hauls as you mentioned. I agree, I think it would be awesome to go out on longer runs. I wonder if this would also facilitate the potential for scouting runs for multiplayer mining? Have someone out in a fast ship loaded with boxes to find big juicy rocks while a full MOLE crew handle the breaking the rocks and moving on to the next scouted location. I think that would be awesome fun!
Thanks for the great vid, looking forward to seeing more on mining. Gonna miss the dull but profitable trips to the belt in my prospector hauling raw quant. Made 10's of millions doing that, got me a Carrack and so many other ships. Be interesting to see how all this develops in 3.19 and beyond, not sure whether to be excited or sad!
I think once we have enough time to fully understand the loop you’ll be back to earning (nearly) as much as a solo prospector. But with a lot more potential on the multiplayer side that makes grouping up worth doing.
I love that hadonite is, on paper, far and away the most valuable material to mine. Makes me feel like I'm not wasting my time with my ROC on Aberdeen.
Great video and lovely data you've all collected. Really diggin this hunt for the new meta. What's really gonna make the profession more interesting is swapping bags and mining missions. No one knows for sure, but I have a feeling for missions that the common mats like copper and iron and quartz will be requested and the payout might be similar to finding a nice gold or bexalite deposit (hopefully). I would personally love it if at max mining rep, the mining missions require a mix of of a few mats, like "We need x SCU of Copper, x SCU of Hephastanite, ect." with insane payouts for the difficult task that could take an hour or more. What's even more exciting to me is the prospect of filling a C2 of empty mining bags and swapping in the field. Imagine taking 20 bags to the refinery in a single trip!
Yeah this is very much how I can see the contracts working when they develop. To begin with I think they could be like the salvage contracts - buying a hot spawn of x scu. We tried out all the possibilities with saddle bags and unfortunately not a goer just yet - can’t sell or refine the bags out of a cargo ship 😢 But……soon.
With 3.19 changes, I am sad because, I miss my quant timer. Also i kind of wish i never bought a prospector since a rental probably makes 50% to 80% of what a bought prospector will make. I made a about 300 million an hour.... about 45 mins per trip and 180aUEC to 265aUEC per mission. That said it was good money and kept me all ways wanting to fill the refinery with jobs. I have played one year and almost immediately updated my starter ship to a taurus and prospector to mine. Thank you for the great guides.
Something that affects what they can do with laser heads, modules, etc. is server health. If the servers could be made stable, they could make the upper-tier components cost well above what they do now. This would give the low-mid components more of a purpose, seeing use while we grind creds for the pro-grade stuff.
Optimum is good for laggy internet or if your mining and drinking( never drink and mine ).. But then again you can use gadgets too. Good vid as usual.👍
If certain planetside terrain yields better rocks than other places, I imagine they will be easy to find, just look for all the Balista's and Nova tanks controlling the area. Always been the stay out longer and get +80% pure bags of bex, hex Tari and Lari, what little of any other stuff I brought in was just tossed, it was enough to let me try new ships between patch wipes. Never touched quant, don't like clocks. Never even thought to try doubling up modules, giving that a go, thanks.
Nice video, my load out consists of the Hofstede and a lifeline, with Okunis gadgets in ship storage. I was able to crack a 12k rock with this setup, but that may have due to the type of rock I was working on, Aluminum was the major portion of it. I forget how to spell that type rock. Yesterday I went mining and according to the prices, I was expecting 6.4 million, but what I got was 64k. I'm not sure if the terminals are calculating right, but more like my price expectations were wrong. Oh well.
Thank you for your time and for putting a great vid out. the future for me is looking better as a solo miner as the need to get QT all the time just because your "Wasting time " with anything else as just changed to Mine all the other stuff without the worry of blowing up. just the dame Pirates to worry about LOL I also think once the salvage material is sorted its self out as in scraping different materials and munching then the need for different materials to repair. this then gives the mining the need to mine for the said mats and sell easier . Also stops people getting Millions within a weeks game play and then what ? I did save up for a MSR $5mil to do my refinery delivers. I think I may like the way things are going moving away from just doing bounties and mining to salvage , mining , delivery with a bit of flying escort if needed or a gunner for someone on a big ship. Looking forward to the NEW mining guide when 3.19 is out in the PU
@@LoudGuns Hmm would be interesting to compare to running solo with the prospector vs going for high profit in the Mole split amongst crew members. Either way nice to see some effort being made to make it viable at least.
@@LoudGuns They should give the pilot access to the central mining head then cause as a Mole pilot mining really is boring and on windy moons you have to have a pilot
Was waiting for your video to give me an idea of what to expect. This is exactly what I wanted, both from you and from New mining. Was pulling my hair out mining nothing but quant. It's so incredibly boring to me. Can't wait to fill the mole up with gold and diamonds and make more than lunch and gas money
For what it's worth, the part at 7:15 where you said impossible means impossible, isn't 100% accurate. I tried one tonight and broke it. Mass was 11975, 38.12% Agricium, 59.99% titanium, and 1.88% inert, resistance 23%, and instability 1.61 while I was heating it up. I was using a Helix 1, and had a Focus III passive. I also had a Torpid module mounted, but never fired it. I was at 100% for a short time, sitting at 15 meters, according to my screenshot. So, if it says impossible, don't assume it won't crack until you try it. I heard the dev say the same thing, and I almost moved on to the next one. This was also in the Aaron Halo.
Given that it’s the Arbor stock it’s actually an alright ship now, I need to test whether you can add a module, but even if not with mining gadgets etc it’s going to do pretty well. I reckon it’s definitely less of a credit trap.
im completely new to mining, i have a mole cuz i play with a buddy. i still debate wether or not i should get the mole or prospector, but i think mole is fine. i think this is gonna be a really nice update to finally get into mining.
Thanks for the video, great work! I've been experimenting with upgrading rental Prospector and have some good news: you can have a friend who owns a Prospector equip a head (and modules, if you like) and then swap it with yours in space. You'll keep it for the duration of your rental assuming you don't blow it up or have to claim it. Additionally if you don't want to go to all this trouble and just keep the stock Arbor, you can still manually attach a module to the head while in EVA with a tractor beam after unlocking the ports (right Alt+K). What do you think would be the best single module to use with a rental Prospector's Arbor I?
Forgot to mention, but because you can hot swap modules in the field now, you can carry a variety either on your person or ship to change out based on your needs!
Had a chance to try the new mining system in 3.19 PTU. It's more smooth due to server stability, wider gamaunt of mining opportunities but I have yet to find my mining specialization or niche.
Am I missing something? For Prospector play, am I expected to deal with the inconvenience of gadgets? If so, then I may as well take the inconvenience of solo Mole mining for the all the bonuses. 3 lasers to select from, more module slots and more cargo.
Prospector: 2m MOLE: 5.1m Pretty sure that says the Mole is meant to be the more profitable ship. That said I think for any solo player the gadgets are going to be important - not like you have to use them, it’s just that without the significant resistance buffs and cluster modifier buffs they can give there’s a bunch of rocks you won’t be able to crack that you could if you did use them.
A lot of XTR-XL’s and Focus 3’s on a mix of Arbor’s, Helix’s and Klein’s - pretty sure we can do better though using impacts which we picked up on afterwards (don’t need quite that much green).
Bruh I just got a mole when 3.18 dropped.. haven't really been able to use it since 3.18 was (and still is) fairly unstable and hard to play. Now I gotta relearn everything? T_T Edit: Now that I have watched the video, this seems like a really good step in the right direction for mining. I hope this means the Orion is on the horizon though, I would love to have that big beast of a ship! :D
Loved your video! As someone who mines solo in a prospector, I'd really appreciate it if you could include some extensive info, because of its safety. Would really love to know what materials can be found there, what can be cracked and what not, optimal loadouts for halo exclusive mining and generally anything you could think of, catering to the solo mining experience in the halo. Thanks!
Literally been waiting for your take on mining loud guns. Your the mining guy 👍🏻
Thanks Cherronova 🙏

Best Mining Video I have ever seen. So I'm kinda excited to see what you do for a mini guide :)
Thanks! Not only did you carve out a cool niche; I appreciate that you're sharing your findings with the community. I definitely saw the rushed videos that showed the new 'best' strategies. Your methodical, scientific approach is definitely needed.

Thank you this is perfect. ❤
Also as a side note I found a granite rock of celin with 34% quant. it was only a straight to scoopable rock but might be worth checking out

Hmm, a question about 3.19 mining, have they fixed the airhumping the MOLE does without a pilot in the seat?
Definitely seemed a lot better but desync is highly dependent on servers, and PTU’s often have less stress than live ones.

Thanks LG!
On your permanent mods chart, Focus III doesn't show a stat in the Optimal Charge Window Size column, it's just a blank.
I must be psychic, just joined the discord and asked you when this was coming out!
Haha - well it’s not a guide, but it’s a WIP!
Oh well.
Well done !
Nice! Cant wait for your updated guide!
Cheers mate 👍 Just needs a bit more testing!
I think one of the problems still is mutliplayer in the mole is silly until they double its capacity
I think honestly now 3 in a mole will make more than the same 3 would alone.
@@psykosmach6132 fly with me - I love it! Feet up on the dash, cup of tea in hand.
The prospector rental was always hard to get any value out of. What's it like in this patch?
Given that it’s the Arbor stock it’s actually an alright ship now, I need to test whether you can add a module, but even if not with mining gadgets etc it’s going to do pretty well. I reckon it’s definitely less of a credit trap.
@@LoudGunsthat's very promising, I look forward to the testing results.
im completely new to mining, i have a mole cuz i play with a buddy. i still debate wether or not i should get the mole or prospector, but i think mole is fine. i think this is gonna be a really nice update to finally get into mining.
was all preflight ready for a nice flight on XP12, watched this and found my self on a moon mining.
This was amazing video, ty. I would love to be apart of the stuff you do is there an org I join to group up for this?
Great video with a lot of pertinent info mate. BTW, where is the link to your new website you mentioned?
Cheers
It’ll come soon, just sorting it out. But the links are all in the description to my shared drive for now 👍
thanks - that makes me keen to try mining again :-)
Glad to hear it Stephen!
Prospector: 2m
MOLE: 5.1m
Pretty sure that says the Mole is meant to be the more profitable ship. That said I think for any solo player the gadgets are going to be important - not like you have to use them, it’s just that without the significant resistance buffs and cluster modifier buffs they can give there’s a bunch of rocks you won’t be able to crack that you could if you did use them.
Are they gonna wipe all the auec this wipe? I was actually saving up for a mole for me and my mates to mine in.
No idea I’m afraid, but they haven’t hinted at it.
Great video as always! Quick question: what was the mix of heads & modules that gave you 0 red zone?
A lot of XTR-XL’s and Focus 3’s on a mix of Arbor’s, Helix’s and Klein’s - pretty sure we can do better though using impacts which we picked up on afterwards (don’t need quite that much green).
Bruh I just got a mole when 3.18 dropped.. haven't really been able to use it since 3.18 was (and still is) fairly unstable and hard to play. Now I gotta relearn everything? T_T
Edit: Now that I have watched the video, this seems like a really good step in the right direction for mining. I hope this means the Orion is on the horizon though, I would love to have that big beast of a ship! :D
Well pretty much! It’s better though 😂
Thanks!
May the guy at 22:17 rest in peace
Blood for the mining gods!
