Great tutorial! After following it, my findings in 3.22 are: 1. Driving up the ramp in reverse is easier than driving down in reverse. The polished metal panels in the center of your cutlass cargo room are a nice guiding line. 2. Flying at ~120km/h and 200-300m above ground yields good scanning results. On Magda the desert plains below OM5/6 are super nice and flat. Avoid the mountains, they s*ck a**. Your relevant results are the results that pop up suddenly at 2-3km, but set your radius to 360°, as the server may be slow and spawn minerals in your back after you passed them already. 3. ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS check the position of your ramp BEFORE you leave it. You may end up stuck with a ramp too high to climb/drive back in. Your ship may get yeeted around if you drive the ramp into the ground too deep. Alyways switch off the engine but leave the power on for shields. Also your rover cannot move up steep slopes. You may be trapped downhill somewhere with nowhere to land to recover it. 4. If your ROC starts acting up inside of your ship, check if you have switched it completely off before exiting the seat. Otherwise it will get yeeted around so that you cannot reach the cockpit anymore. If that happens you can press X to try and crawl underneath it. 5. Even if the mining laser arm gets yanked up by that bug, you can poweron/off the ROC and the laser arm a few times and it will fix itself. Do this before driving outside, or your rover can clip through the floor and get stuck. No fun. 6. On Hadanite, start the fracture laser at 100% to ramp it up quickly into optimal, shortly before you reach that, go back to 35-40% to hold it there. 7. If you by accident reach critical levels, you can move the laser away and turn it off and just let it cool off to avoid an explosion. If it explodes you are fcked because it can disable everything including the drivetrain so you cant move anymore. 8. Move the minerals into the local storage at once after landing on a mining outpost, so that if you get trashed or your ship gets stolen, you dont lose it. 9. You cannot sell minerals in the admin office ore console of the refinery on stations. Just land at a nearby mining outpost with a armistice zone. And always close your ramp to prevent theft. 10. If you get the Transaction Error thing and can't seem to be able to sell your stuff, make small stacks of 3 or 5 units and sell random batches below the full total amount. I found out most of it over the course of two days (and some of it the hard way lol), so maybe this can help you save some time and trouble.
Really brings back memories of my first days of Star Citizenship. Once I made a few ten thousand credits over a few days by doing box delivery missions, renting a Cutlass Black and a ROC for ground mining on Arial and Aberdeen (often fighting the issues like being unable to retrieve ROC and having to fly to the other moon) was my first major money-making. I don't know how smooth and profitable the ROC mining gameplay is nowadays but I do want to get back to it sometimes.
ROC mining is a nice and cheap way to start mining and you don't need to worry about mining consumables or mining heads taking damage or getting lost like on the mining ships in the current patch. Just make sure you don't mind hopping between ship and miner seats often.
It is usually advisable to offload gems from ROC after each cluster, because if the server crashes, everything inside ROC will be lost, while ship inventory will stay.
I’m impressed how mining naturally progresses from ROC to mole now. I do with they’d sort the ground vehicle scanning out though. Nice video, thanks Farrister.
my pro tip here is to just if you find anything you can mine with a roc collect it because you can empty your roc to your ship in this patch and thus you can mine everything you like
I did solo mining in a cave and came across an ore I hadn't seen before. Almost passed it. Turns out it was Janalite! Sold 10 stones on ArcCorp for 176.000 aUEC! And it wasn't in a sand cave, but a rock cave :)
@@Farrister Aye found out :) All good, did some successful mining trips to Aberdeen. Great tutorial 👍 I find flying directly back to Everus Harbor works better for me, rather than staying around Aberdeen, trying to land at mining facilities. Just gotta get outta there with the load lol
Wish this worked for 3.23, I spent everything I had on this only to find out that the ROC rover's rear right wheel (always specifically that wheel) keeps noclipping through the floor of the cutlass black's hold making it completely inoperable. Bedlogging fixed this until the bedlogging option completely disappeared too
Also I cannot sell, I cannot transfer the minerals from ROC to the Cutlass Black and I have no option on the commodity trader to sell directly from the ROC
The last time I tried roc-mining for an hour, I spent 50 mins flying around looking for minerals. After that I realized that mining is probably not a gameplay loop for me)
My experience was not dissimilar a couple of times. Other times you'll stumble over something worth a whole new ship - if you could take all of it. It pays to be doing it for the sake of doing it, rather than the reward of the haul.
How the havk u put the Rock inside like that ! its not fitting inside of my Cuttlass Black ! the rock have a bad time to go up the ramp , and to pass the sides inside of the Ship !??
I prefer Daymar, where the atmo is very thin with better visibility, Aberdeen atmo is just too thick and you can’t see shit until you are very close to the ground .
Relatively new player here, mining looks cool but doesn’t really seem to fetch as much money as RMC hauling in something like a rented Connie which gets me about 250k every half hour. Kind of makes all other options irrelevant when you can make so much money just rubbing from terminal to terminal.
skipping the part where any ship in scan mode can read if the diamond is hada or the 2 useless rocks is not the way to guide:/ ive done it tons, and getting the roc to find out light tint or shiplight darkness theyre not hada sucks. another ignored tip: set waypoint to the poi your leaving as south pole compass so you dont repeat fly over the same 5 pings because of landing issues.
It's not though is it... how many times I have fucked about getting My rock into my ship gone off rock hunting and get smacked down with a 30k disconnect
wow yea such a great way of making money after you send 30 minutes spending 40k for vehicles to rent for a day just to only get an hour of mining in because the fucking roc is so buggy! This is easily one of the worst ways in game to make money. The prospector is far more superior for only 10k more.
I dont like these titles with the mining, mining take like 6 hours to get paid or even days or you literally just dont make profit, Ive tried mining maybe 13 times all failed, the roc would run out of battery before finishing even one patch of crystals or the collector beam doesn't pick up the crystals, or you cant mine the good rocks on your own, or the door to get into the mining laser wouldnt open for periods of 15 minutes, and then you realize after you queue up 3 orders of 90sq you have no ship to even transport it and you cant split the order and you cant just take half and delete the other it doesnt let you. Then 30ks and having someone scan your ship and ether ram or destroying you. OH yea and dying from walking off the back of the cutlass black in high winds whiling mining happens ALOT. Also fact the roc cannot, Mine 1 patch of hydanite without losing power.
I've mined with the Prospector (~30k/hr/load) and solo Mole (~45k/hr~90k/load). Those numbers a bit low because I always sell unrefined (1/2 price) to avoid the refinery loop and transport issues. Problem w/solo mole is cockpit to mining pod and back, not too bad once you get better at positioning, still a bit of a grind. So, I'm looking forward to the ROC, seems higher returns, and skips the refining.
@@lvjetboy2908 sorry to wake this conversation up, but... You can refine materials? I got a roc and a ship capable of transporting it. I have been just raw selling the resources gathered. great vid, top quality thank you. Reminded me of how its been since I did this so Im loading up the ROC for a spin now. Cheers mate!

Can I control the laser from inside the cockpit or do I have to sit in the mining seat?

OM-1 is at the northern axis of the planet and it is always daylight under OM-1
Exactly! But as you move and scan for ore, invariably you drift from the pole...
Is Mining on micro worth it as a new player?
