Special thanks to special friend Jack Han for featuring in this dental education video. What topics/vlogs would you like covered next?

Dr. Yoo, may please trouble you to suggest couple of products recommendations on the best mouth wash with the best PH level. I appreciate your time and informative videos.
I’ve been scraping my tongue since i was 12. I’m 23 now and definitely a must 👌🏽
I’m sure your breath smell better than most 😁
After my first time using a tongue scraper I just couldn't go back to not scraping it. I now feel all the gunk and don't feel clean enough if I don't do it! Instantly noticed that my breath got actually fresh
@@deemah3602same here. When I don’t scrape, I feel so uncomfortable until I pick mine up and scrape up
with what?
@@BornvsMe Just your standard tongue scraper from your local pharmacist 🙏🏼 Plus floss, electric toothbrush and multiple replacement heads. Then organic mouth wash :)
THANK YOU for the closed captions! They make a huge difference for me and others with hearing and auditory processing issues and I always appreciate it so much.
I don't typically leave comments, however after watching this I just had to! 😁
I appreciate how straightforward this was while still being entertaining, fun, and natural/genuine you guys were.
Both soo freaken cute together also! Ugh! 💕
Thank you guys so much! Lately I have been focusing on improving myself both mentally and physically (that includes my dental) so I now know what to go out and buy to get a better dental 😅😃
i'm so glad i'm doing most of the mentioned things already (especially tongue scraping) and i don't know if i'm the only one with this but whenever i fall asleep without brushing my teeth, i always wake up in the middle of the night because my body just can't calm down knowing i didn't brush my teeth and so i have to get up to brush them or else i just can't get back to sleep so i really appreciate my body for knowing how important it is to brush my teeth!
you two are so funny and the perfect entertainment. Instant subscription on my end!
Oh my god!!! Since I've had my wisdom teeth out I have struggles to get in that area well. That jaw movement tip is lifechanging! And I had never heard anything like it! Thank you Soo much!!!
Loved this video ! I always flossed AFTER brushing bc I thought the mouth wash just rinsed away the debris. This was so helpful ! Would love a video about your fave/worst toothpastes or mouth washes ! Also fascinated by the sound of oil pulling but also scared, would love your thoughts !
Not exactly new stuff added to me but you two talk in a simple and funny way ❤makes that tutorial enjoyable to watch
I have not had tooth decay, much less dental caries, ever in my life.
My oral hygiene routine is:
1) Apply a _smallll_ amount of toothpaste onto my electric toothbrush, press the toothpaste _into_ the brush so it's actually fully used, and spread the toothpaste over all my teeth, but NOT brush yet.
2) Floss using a reusable stainless steel floss holder that looks like an F, with a satin floss that is wound around the prongs of the F. This is much easier and faster than using my fingers, and allows me to use much less floss, too. Spreading toothpaste first makes it much less disgusting to floss, and also supplies fluoride which keep our teeth strong! Rinse with water after flossing.
3) Gently brush teeth with the electric toothbrush that still has some remaining toothpaste from earlier. I go over each gumline twice, once in each direction, angling the brush towards each direction.
4) Manually and gently brush tongue, cheeks, and massage gum with the toothbrush switched off.
5) Rinse with water, clean all the tools, put on my retainers, and I'm done!
All of this takes about 10 minutes.
Thank you for sharing your detailed rotund!!! 💕 I want to give it a go.
Obviously this works for you, but I really recommend not rinsing your mouth with water after brushing. It takes away the benefits from using toothpaste! I also generally use mouthwash before brushing so that I don’t rinse away the toothpaste after I brush.
@@5050TM no problem! These are habits/tips I've built over years, so I don't expect anyone to follow it exactly. Like, pressing the toothpaste into the toothbrush was an idea I had many years ago that when I see others spitting out lumps of toothpaste after brushing, I had forgotten that I too had that problem, and wondered why they were doing that, haha.
Hi @@melaniesosa9539, thanks for the tip! I've tried it myself, but I couldn't stand the thought and feeling of having toothpaste that still had (most likely still living) bacteria sitting in my mouth. The main benefit of leaving toothpaste in is remineralization of the teeth with fluoride, but I know my teeth are not demineralized, as they have been before due to braces. Once the braces were removed, my teeth remineralize with the same routine even though I didn't leave the toothpaste in. But I also eat nutritious foods which help with remineralization of the teeth, and I tend to avoid foods high in sucrose as sucrose in particular forms a harder-to-remove plaque. So that's why I decided not to leave toothpaste in and just wash everything off.
@@melaniesosa9539 ...so you essentially eat the toothpaste along with the bacteria after brushing?
Finally an upload! I really love your videos whatever the topic may be. Watching from Kenya 🇰🇪♥️
Thank you for this! Lately I’ve been so hyper focused on wanting to have a good oral dental health so this is a great start!
same here, I started consistently flossing everyday for a month now. this helps a lot, I didn't know anything about tongue scrapers previously, might be a good addition to my routine
@@robertimmanuel577 It's a game changer
Yep. Please discuss more about whitening. Thank you!😇
These are exactly all the steps I've been doing for years and I actually enjoy them. Lately, I've added waterpik with whitening tablet as the last step instead of mouth wash.
Welcome Back. So nice and relax video💙

3:42 LET ME TELL YA’LL SOMETHING - HE IS TELLING YOU THE TRUTH! My periodontist explained this to me and I did it for about a month along with flossing. He said my bleeding dropped by 30%! My pockets decreased drastically in size as well. I wish I’d been brushing this way my whole life. Thank you for sharing that with everyone else guys 😇. Bless you.
My sonicare toothbrush leaves my teeth feeling so clean. Once in a while I have to use a regular brush, and I can feel the difference. For over 10 years now, I’m always glad to return to my sonicare.

Thank you for reminding us about how important flossing is to be healthy, teethwise. And thank you so much for making it fun! I'm definitely that kid...okay, that adult child that resists flossing. I'm going to work on building good flossing habits from now on.
I will start implementing these things in my daily routine ....💜 thanks a lot 💜
Thanks loved the great tips!!
I been introduced to tongue scrapping by parents from early childhood, so glad about it.
Will recommend in INDIA from long time we use this V-shaped tongue scrapper which avoids gagging better & reaches all corners well. Get the stainless-steel V one.
But yes recently shifted to electric toothbrush which is more satisfying & effective to the whole oral hygiene. I'm more concious now after read fact that not brushing teeth even one day, has bacteria in count almost of total human population on earth 💀
Two of my favorite people!!
It was a fun video to watch :) Im using 3% h2o2 without stabilizers as a mouth wash (Thin it out with water before) There are specific cautions one has to know about when using h2o2, but basically its a already in many tooth pastes and as far as I heard they are using h202 in whitening products as well. The reasoning is that Im living a very chemical aware life, used to have health problems and solved them by learning about chemicals.
Dr john yoo thanks for aploading new videos God bless you always
Hi John, Can your next video be a brand/product review episode for mouthwash and toothpaste brands?? Ive heard mixed things about listerine, and that some toothpaste brands are better than others. It's hard to tell with so much marketing speak from these brands and would love your professional opinion! Toothbrush brands, floss brands can be supplementary but I would wnat to hear more about your opinions on these nad what you guys recommend !!
A trick I learned that'll help supress your gag reflex when scraping your tongue is to squeeze your thumb as hard as you can (without hurting yourself). If you use your right hand to brush/scrape then use your left hand to squeeze and vice versa.
We love jack!!💜 his videos are amazing. Both of you guys are awesome at video content!!
he is a quite a ball of energy and a chicken nugget of knowledge
Love u guys! Thanks for the info!!!
Dentist here and I just tell most patients there's no need to use mouthwashes (with the exception of periodontal problems and such). Sometimes my braces patients comes back with more staining on their teeth. Some mouthwashes just make it worse than not using it. Stick with good old "toothgumbrushing" and flossing.
I’m confused. Don’t mouthwashes kill bacteria that can cause cavities and such?
@@melaniesosa9539 Brushing your teeth and flossing IS mouth washing. Doing more is just bowing to marketing.
well it depends, you shouldn't use listerine or rinse with clorhexidine (stains your teeth), but a mouthwash containing 0.2% sodium fluoride is good against cavities.
Very informative Dr. John thankyou so much, I'm very interested and concerned about my teeth.
This guy talks about a lot of adult matters for a pediatric dentist 😂 On another note, I found the video informative, thank you!
some people need to be careful using an electric toothbrush. my sister was using one, and the way she was using it caused some damage to her gums. her dentist recommended for her to switch back to manual. i haven’t had any problems with electric toothbrushes though.
Good to hear that tongue scraping is effective. I vaguely recall some years ago about tongue scraping not actually doing anything, though I can't remember how credible that info was, but I didn't do it because of that. Literally ordering a new tongue scraper now lol.
Oh it very much does do wonders. Haven't you noticed from time to time a small white layer on your tongue? That is a layer of food remnants and bacteria, and if you look after brushing your teeth, it doesn't really go away without scraping it down. Also you can feel the difference when scraping and when not doing so. Your mouth freshness increase quite a lot. 😊
I really love your videos take care And God bless you always John
Nice video, very informative! Cant wait for the whitening video
A vlog about whitening teeth, pls! Been thinking of the pros and cons about it coz I wanna give it a try! Thanks!!
I am so afraid of the dentist but watching these videos make me a relax like 10% which is something.
Why are you affraid of dentists? :) it doesn't hurt at all and most of the time it's quite relaxing.

Lol: "I like to push myself...to be uncomfortable...thats how you grow!" 😂😂😂
thank you for sharing, one question, how about water flossing? is it more working than flossing using thread? or we can use both or just choose one is enough?
His videos are always informative and hilarious 😆

can you oil pull before brushing? i would rather have a lasting mint flavor in my mouth than oil

Is a sonic toothbrush better than a rotating toothbrush?
@@arek.b1256 In my office I recommend both depending on your location of greatest concern and your dexterity in your hands.
Sonic does the most work requiring the least amount of dexterity. I have both at home and use the Oral B IO more because it cleanse like my instruments at work. I’ve found my older patients prefer Sonicare by Phillips and people who have gagging issues prefer Brain Oral B spin brushes. Hope that helps! Good Brushing can be done with a nice soft toothbrush by hand!
@@arek.b1256 I like both brushes if you have periodontal problems I generally recommend the sonic over the rotary. But for comfort and clean the ultra soft rotary, not the standard head, is excellent if you have a liking for the rotating head. I like to soak my bristle heads in hot tap water just before I brush (warm to body temp is perfect not scalding hot) this allows the nylon bristles more flexibility they still clean just as well!

very informative!!! l have put flossing step as my last step of the routine!!!no wonder I was told by my dentist the other day that l have tooth decay again😢I’m gonna change it to save my poor teeth😢

Awesome video !!! Would like to know more about home DIY whitening products, please!
Is it safe to mix toothpaste with food-grade 3% hydrogen peroxide??
There isn't HP toothpaste available in my country
Thank you so much for explaining mouth rinse! I did not think as to why my mouth would be dry after using mouth rinse. Please recommend a couple mouth rinses and rate some of the popular ones! I’m curious to see how they all differ and how I will start changing my dental hygiene for the better!

Thanks for the info! Will you be making a video on how to keep your teeth clean, for those who have braces?
Hi John I really love you videos thanks and l hope you good health take care
The Best M2M ive watched😍😍😍
I have receded gums, and was told to go back to a manual toothbrush and brush as if I’m bringing the gums back toward the teeth. So for my upper teeth, I brush from the top down, and vice versa for the bottom teeth.
How’s that going? I fucked up my guns by brushing So hard they started to pull back.
Dentist told me there’s nothing that can be done to fix it except brushing softer and like u said
Most of my teeth and guns are good except one which has receded a pretty decent amount
I was going through the comment looking for someone talking about it
So I floss everyday, but I use the floss picks. I was told those aren’t good because you have to pull them out and go with floss strings because they slide out between the teeth. Is this true , should I switch ?
Hi Dr. Yoo! I recently found your channel and it's been a great pleasure watching your videos and learning more about oral care! I have a question regarding flossing- are using toothpick brushes as effective as flossing? Cuz i keep hearing mixed reviews about them
I do all of these and a water pick before flossing. And no mouthwash 😊
Thank you for the upload Dr Yoo! May we please get some recommendations for oral hygiene products? Especially the mouthwash, tongue scraper and whitening.
yes. will compile some products i personally like / recommend in future videos. as for tongue scraper - no particular brand. mouthrinse - ACT, Therabreath, elementa - are all non-acidic. whitening - start with over the counter (NON CHARCOAL) and if want to see better results, then seek dentist for professional in-office options, such as trays, gels, and lights. my whitening rec for in-office are opalescence & zoom
I found ur videos and know I know the right rules for brushing our teeth. Thanks a lot doctor yoo ❤
i already brushed my teeth and youtube recommended this. i’m gonna brush again
YESS!! Make a video about whitening
Just wondering could you use a spoon instead of an actual scraper?
I do really well with the non gagging actually! Unless I’m super anxious. I’ve always brushed my tongue, though nvr with a scraper- gonna try it
I flossed twice so now, my mouth is 80% clean... I DID IT!
Hi Dr. Yoo, can you link the products in the description section, please?
LOL 30 seconds into this video and my overly sensitive gag reflex said absolutely not.😂 I do have tongue scrapers but I will admit it's frustrating to use them. It seems simple but I have to gear up for it.
Thank you for the tips! What about water flossing? Would you use water flossing before or after brushing? Also, would it be wrong to scrape your tongue with your toothbrush? Sorry that I have too many questions, but definitely look forward to part 2 😊
I’ve heard about tongue scraping, but I’ve never done it, before. I was wondering about it triggering the gag reflex, so thanks for talking about that! I’m going to go look for a tongue scraper. I also appreciate you talking about mouthwashes and avoiding ones with alcohol. I started looking for ones without alcohol many years ago, and it’s good to know that was the right decision.
I’ve always used a manual toothbrush, but I’m thinking of getting an electric one. Is there any difference in using electric vs. manual, or do you still rotate the electric toothbrush in a circular motion?
Your videos are always so fun and you explain things so well. And I also appreciate how you threw in to not feel bad if we haven’t been doing some of the steps. 😊
@Vongola Atzi Thanks! :-)
I would be really interested in a video on tips to get your teeth more white. I have really sensitive teeth (it just runs in my family) and I do have them under control pretty well thanks to following the advices my dentists gave me but they said that bleeching and other methods like that would hurt my teeth a lot and they would not be able to handle that as well as whitening products etc. I am not particularly insecure about my teeth, they are alright also color wise, but since I am becoming an actress I would feel more comfortable if my teeth were a bit more white, especially for screen work. As always thank you for tips and your well made videos! Also: you and Jack were hilarious together! Loved your bromance vibes!
Search up laser whitening, it's the safest method and it's not invasive like bleaching. It lasts from 6 months up to a year+ if you take care of your teeth. It leaves the teeth dry sometimes as a side effect but that only lasts for 12 to 36 hours.
I just love them 🤞🏾
ive tried so many alcohol free mouth washes but none leave my mouth as clean as the listerine with alcohol, any suggestions?
Im not a kid but you def won me with the story you tell the kids about flossing, I have braces and just hate doing it but thank u for changing that pov.
it’s better not to rinse with water after brushing your teeth because the paste protects the teeth from biofilm and if you are rinsing with water this protective layer disappears
Problem for me was dentists just saying I should brush my teeth better or telling me I should do "this" while another one says the opposite.
Before I got my braces was when a dentist would actually listen to my questions and give advice, told me I need to brush longer on the same spot ,use mouthwash, should floss and get a extra tooth brush for my gums (which have always been a massive problem)
My teeth actually got better with that !
When I got my braces it was a massive step backwards ,but I just added more extra steps and that somewhat works for me ,can't floss though anymore (just does nothing for me )
But even with all that ,I still learnt things from this video !
I have a question please. I'm a bit concerned. I got sick like 3 weeks ago, and got an antibiotic. Then a week later, I got oral thrush, my tongue has like a white coating, and pharmacist said I got fungus too? What can the problem be? Like that happened all of a sudden. I never had this issue. I'm applying daktarin gel, but I see no changes
