Boney is now officially part of the fact fiend crew
Bonely is the mascot
Tony Ja movies will always hold a special place in my heart for how pointlessly epic they are.
The plots come off as completely idiotic to me as a westerner and some of the characters voices sound like literal nails on a chalkboard but even with all the problems I can binge them all to no end and have a blast every time.
Isn't the protector just Kung Fu John Wick?
Replace the Dog with an Elephant :P
@@primarchstar2087 Muay Thai instead of Kung Fu, but I'll say John Wick is The Protector with guns
@@primarchstar2087 I was thinking John Wick the whole way through and that came to an absolute when the elephant was in fact killed. The main difference being that the dog dies at the beginning of Wick and the elephants death isn’t confirmed until the end.
My favourite fact about Ong Bak is that during that famous fight chase scene that Karl mentioned, you can see a couple of messages written in the background. One reads ""Hi Spielberg, let do it together" and another is "Hi, Luc Besson, we are waiting for you".
Also noted shithead and fake artist Steven Seagal wanted to release Ong Bak in the US with his production company on the provision that they added new scenes which would show Seagal as Tony Jaa's teacher. 🤮
That dude's ego is cancerous
I had something similar to the bone break scene happen to me. I was running and my ankle twisted the same way, but I had my full weight on it still. I got lucky and ended up rolling when I fell so I didn't fully wipeout, but my ankle was fractured and it swelled up about 2-3 times it's size by the time I got home. So I definitely agree that guy got it the worst.
I would love to watch a film where Jackie Chan and Tony Ja do a giant fight. That's the whole movie. It would be amazing
Jackie chan is too old now. Thats why most of his recent movies are mostly drama.
@@draco_izanagi I should have said in their prime. That's what I meant.
In Jackie's prime, it would have been one of the coolest comedy action movies ever because with Jackie, there has to be a bit of slapstick comedy.
3:20 speaking of that scene. The way they filmed it was that they put a frame in front of a car with a seat and a camera. And so the person filming was completely exposed. and because they had to get out of there super fast for the interior car scene they couldn't use a seatbelt. So any bad move and the cameraman could just fall of the seat and get run-over by the filming car.
This was so dangerous that all the cameramen refused to get in that seat, so it was the director who choose to sit there and record the scene.
Correction: I just rewatched the behind the scenes and it's actually crazier. The scene WAS filmed by the director but he wasn't on a seat in a frame. He was sitting on the hood of the car and was being held on by two ratchet strap looking contraptions. The way he got off quickly was that there was a string someone else pulled that would unlatch both straps
The extraction "one shot" was actually dozens of separate camera shots all stitched together with CG transitions. The outside camera would get as close as possible and then cg transition to a different camera on the inside, etc. This is how most modern versions of this kind of shot are done. Basically like the wipes in hardcore henry, but technology has advanced to the point where we can fill in the gaps on shots that aren't whip pans.
wow if only they had included this tidbit in the video, maybe through a factbar directly after they showed that clip
My siri said this out loud over a notification In the middle of class and I ain’t even angry.
The MOST BRUTAL fight scene that I can remember is when IP Man fights the 10 Black Belts, THAT was just carnage he unleashed!
your description of the camerman training in the mountains with the camera made me think of Segata Sanshiro training with the giant sega saturn on his back.
I love how during the "nothing in frame" bit the coffee machine is just going at it lol
Couple of confusing things in this scene discussion. It was shot on 35mm film, so sure in a sense they needed an experienced team and dop to shoot on film, but it's like some "unique" camera just takes folks that shoot on film to know what to do. The epic one take from Tom Yum Goong used a steadicam operator. It wasn't handheld like you alluded to. Running a big steadicam rig for 4 minutes straight is very difficult, but many steadicam ops can do it, just really hard. They obviosuly needed to sub in a more fit guy so Somsak Srisawat took up the mantle and got it done. He is an awesome steadicam op work in the Asia market and has shot a ton of films as steadicam op.
I saw it at a friend's place once with a bunch of friends (before it came here to the States as The Protector so we all jokingly called it "Ong-Bok 2" before actual Ong-Bok 2 came out) and to this day I don't think I've ever seen another fight scene that compares to that long oner. A few of us there, myself included, were martial artists, so we were also able to appreciate the physical efforts that went into the fight choreography at the time.
The Warrior King was released in the US as "The Protector" for those interested. I haven't seen it, but I've seen the sequel. It's dope, it's got The RZA in it and the fight scenes are on-point.
Now for the question of do I wait for the commentary track to come out or watch it right now? Decisions decisions.
Daredevil, when Matt escapes from the jail after talking to Fisk, that fight scene was phenomenal
There's a bit of fun witnessing the struggle but if you want a more permanent fix for the sunglasses to stay on, try putting some twist ties on the tips of the ear arms (they are called 'temple tips'). You can cinch them close together to make it sit like a crown or attach them to something at the back.
Haha the Shrek animation goofs? That is a deep cut! I must have watched every special feature on that DVD 20 times each when I was little 😅
The usual way to listen to commentary tracks of how they did it movies, is something like Children Of Men. Everyone loved it and want to know how much it took. Then theres Warrior King. No one saw it, and they knew it would be so when they were filming it, but they went just as far just because! Just beautiful.
I would suggest Big Trouble in Little China for a commentary for a marital arts film and I would love to hear one for Robocop. I'm a huge fan of the 1987 film and I know Karl is as well. I would be very interested in what that commentary would be.
They already did a robocop commentary
That hook has been terrorizing me for MONTHS I kept thinking it was dust or something on my phone 😂
The running with a camera reminded me of the advertisement for some sport drink where the camera man outruns an Olympic athlete
HARD BOILED, the iconic one shot scene in the hospital
I was first introduced to Tony jaa through the protector, it blew my mind especially since I was a martial artist at the time. Now that I'm a film maker my self it's even more entertaining.
YES! This film was John Wick before John Wick. The final fight with the bones was insane
Yo Karl IDK why your vids haven’t showed up in my feed in a very long time. I saw this vid and immediately said out loud “where you been?” I’m a long time sub glad I caught a new vid
Even though this isn't a single take, fun fact, I worked with a guy who was an assistant editor on "They Love", and the first cut of the fight scene between Keith David and Rowdy Roddy Piper was almost a half hour long.
"They Love", the final film in the "They Live", "They Laugh", "They Love" trilogy.
@@thebolas000 f'ing autocorrect. Yes, "They Live."
Twin Warriors... this actually made me appreciate the borderline campy aesthetic of the old martial arts movies and a commentary from y'all would be awesome
I was expecting to see the clip of the Powerade ad with the Olympic runners with the cameraman sprinting beside them as they cross the finish line
My favorite Tony Ja scenes will always be his cameos in the bodyguard moves.
god you guy keep hand out these god level movies and shows
I didn't even realize I had seen this before until he started describing the fight. I originally saw the who scene on Corridor Crew and then went to watch the movie. It is fantastic.
I saw this film once years ago, and all I remeber from it is this fight scene.
I always just think of this as that movie where a guy fights people with bones attached to him.
the low production value is a part of the charm. never change
The fight scene in 'they live' was also unnecessarily long but hilarious
Karl how did you miss the best stunt from the foot chase? When Tony Jaa jumps through the hoop of barbed wire... very Jackie chan like style 👌
Love the fact fiend channel btw 😁
That kind of bone break he did to that leg is called a spiral fracture. I know because I did that to one of my legs and now I have a rod up my leg holding it together. It’s not just one break but multiple breaks in the same bones in a spiral pattern
oh my f-ing gosh, the fact I don't need the subtitle to understand Future Cops, it just adds to the corniness and it's so fun
In regards to that street fighter knock off film... I REMEMBER THAT!!! Oh my god! There were so many funny/parody kung fu movies back then that I literally thought some of them were fever dreams!
Poor bonely he's getting to hyped that he can't sit still.
I knew as soon as I saw the title of this video which movie the scene in question was from. When I saw it it was still titled _Tom-Yum-Goong_ and this is the first I'd heard of _Warrior King_ being used as the title.
What perplexes me is why the English-language title isn't _Where Is My Elephant?_
Amazing work as always. friggin love Tony Ja
Hard Boiled the Hospital escape is nuts
Best channel on youtube
Another great shot from this movie is the warehouse fight scene where they cut out all the sound except for the sound of his sneakers running up the pane of glass over the guy on the ATV, it's so well done
Those camera folk overe there are built different. Some excellence over there.
Proper use of the bones demonstrating Tony's work. 😂😂😂😂
the music in the old boy hall way fight scene is perfect
kung fu hustle has one of the best fighting scene in it. The movie is a master piece that's underrated
Completely unrelated to the actual main content but I love how baby Asian elephants are just like that.
i love that bonely has become part of the main cast of the show
There's a 10 - 13 minute (stitched) one-shot from atomic blonde. Pretty cool fight scene
this reminds me of the Nike ad with the camera man filming Usain Bolt or whoever while outrunning him.
My friend was in a mosh once and someone stepped on his foot and he got pushed over. Total accident, happened really fast. Torn Tendon, 6 month recovery. It's a rough injury. And that was for an accident.
The scene in Extraction has hidden cuts.
If you guys could get the director or Tony Ja himself onto the commentary, that would be absolutely legendary
Answer to the intro, what we viewers can see outside the intended frame: Manny years ago I watched a cowboymovie, playing out in the 1800:s. In one of the scenes I could clearly watch a bissy motorway, filled with cars and lorries, in the background. In a diffrent cowboymovie, again playing out in the 1800s:, an airplane flew by in the air 😂
There was another one from that time i cant remember the name but it was sportspeople in a village, they got taken hostage, and the village kicked serious ass
If they needed cameramen who could run with a camera, they should've hired the guys from Maury!
Lmao Karl please tape the shades to the skelly 😂
Ok, I'm convinced. Now I have to watch this movie
Honorable mention to the fight scene to Daredevil season one in the hallway. That is my favorite fight scene ever.
In Canada this movie is called the protector
I HAVE to see future cop now while wasted with a buddy just from that clip alone.
The video hasn't started. I just want to take this ad time to say I appreciate all of you. I hope this channel stays around in some capacity in the long run. Thank you for your contribution to humanity even if we don't always agree about things. We all have the right to an opinion.
A ridiculous martial arts movie is "The One Armed Boxer vs. The Flying Guillotine". Also not so much a martial arts movie, but a crazy movie that will leave you saying WTF every 2 seconds is "Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter".
This made me watch this so much
Bonely had quite a lot to say today, great Banter mate
Commentary on a Disney movie. Lilo and stitch. It is horrifying if you think about it. Majority of the movie the hyper intelligent indestructible alien is using a little lonely girl as a meat shield to protect himself from his pursuers as he tries to find a way off of an island so that he may begin causing mass destruction and mayhem
The glaases falling off the Skeleton was a Boneus
The fight scenes are AMAZING.
If you want some fun martial arts movie recommendations here are a couple of favourites:
Raging Phoenix: Thai martial arts flick about a girl who learns a fictional martial art called Meyraiyuth which can only be mastered by people who have undergone extreme trauma since those are the only people who can get drunk enough to use it properly. She learns this from a trio of guys called Sanim, Dog Shit and Pig Shit; and there's a fight scene against a gang of ruffians on blade stilts.
Versus (Ultimate): Japanese action horror zombie comedy. I've seen it multiple times and I still barely know what the plot is about but it doesn't matter because it's too damn fun. It was a stylistic inspiration for Devil May Cry with some fantastic action choreography; a bunch of running gags; a man in a lime green shirt who leaves nothing behind in any scene he's in and acts 1 million percent; and a cameo by that lovable scamp Hideo Kojima as a zombie extra.
I'd suggest kung fu hustle
Boney seems to had a rough night and trying it's best to looked professional.
Thank you for those Super Cop clips. I love good garbage. I won't search for it but it's excellent with proper commentary. Brad's man made a few million folks watch the worst of The Flash & I was one of them. This was fun.
A title so long, it challenges the most patient ADD sufferers.
did they deliberately add an electrical humm while discussing things they might not have spotted?
The Raid and The Raid 2 have impressive one take fight scenes.
That hawaiian shirt is straight stylin
respect to that camera man
Where's my elephant!? Where's my elephant!? Where's my elephant!? Where's my elephant!? Where's my elephant!?
I had that ankle injury in Taekwondo. No bone broken, but still a month in a casting and a couple extra months relearning to walk. Not a fun time.
I would get the audio commentary to do one thing. Combine the commentary with the film in such a way that if you have 7.1 surround sound, your commentary will come out of the rear speakers. In my case, from my rocker/recliner chair.
He really was the Warrior King
Never stab the action hero. You are just going to piss him off and now he has a knife
I like how Smallwood handles his bones 😘😂😂
OMG I remember watching Super Cop as a kid!
The worst bones to break are the femur and the pelvis, both can cause a ton of bleeding and have the worst recovery times
I’ve done exactly that ankle injury in baseball. And it hurt really bad for a while. But for like the first like hour it was easily some of the worst pain I’ve had. I was amazed no bone broke.
Wow, I thought this movie was a fever dream
Tony Ja is insane, the Ong-Bak trilogy is a personal favorite
Poor Bonesly, being abused by Karl like that
I love this movie, the fact that you see Tony JAA actually get visually exhausted from fighting, and the fact he used ABSOLUTELY NO WIRES!! he ran a pole and kicked a light bulb, in one take! That man is one of the best martial artist I've ever seen, bested only by Bruce Lee, and Jackie Chan.
(Edit) And Donnie Yen.
tony Jaa was the 'star' in the monster hunter movie
The Raid was some great & glorious violence.
6:12 Correction Karl, he was split sliding under a car
I'd recommend watching "CorridorCrew" channel, they have great breakdowns of stunts/fight scenes ("stuntmen react") and bring on guests who work in industry.
Great, the day I recommend CorridorCrew they've been hacked
Hardcore Henry is the best film I've ever seen! Even though they do these camera tricks I love that F**king movie
Tony jaa hands down is my favourite action star, his fight scenes are some of the best I've ever seen
I would love to hear your commentary on the Jet Li movie hero, Karl
