ADDENDUM: Although I compared credits for Bowser's Inside Story+Bowser Junior's Journey and Superstar Saga+Bowser's Minions, I made a typo in my search for Paper Jam so there are actually two more people to credit: - Chihiro Fujioka who did World Design for Paper Jam and who was also credited on the 2020 Olympics game; and - Jun Iwasaki on battle design as he was in 2015. It may be that there are people who worked in the pre-2015 titles - I didn't go back that far. Huge thanks to @PikaPhantomVG for querying.
This is what I like about this channel. Not only does it avoid making things up, but it makes _realistic_ conclusions from _real_ data that most people just never look at
I keep having to remind myself that the new Mario and Luigi game is developed by the same people behind Akiba’s Trip. I just find it hilarious and neat Homie.
Neat information video! It's nice to hear that some of the employees went to other Nintendo associated developers Only thing I'm sad about is that Yoko Shimomura wasn't involved in the music, she gave the series such a unique music style
This video actually made me sad. I’ve known since the day they shut down that AlphaDream was no more and yet I never really thought much about it until now; this was basically their series. Aside from a few other games, this was their legacy. As much as I’m loving brothership so far, it doesn’t feel like a continuation of the previous games but it also doesn’t feel like a reboot? Either way it just hits hard knowing that they aren’t around anymore. I’m really glad Nintendo decided to take a chance and try a new game though, really shows how much they valued this series and the fans
Hmm. If I remember correctly, when Brothership leaked, people on Famiboards counted 6 AlphaDream alumni being involved with Brothership. You did miss at least one: Jun Iwasaki, who worked on battle design for every prior game in the series according to MobyGames, took the role of lead battle game designer for Brothership. It does also feel a bit odd to say "barely anyone from AlphaDream actually returned" while kind of downplaying the pedigree of those involved. Both directors of Super Mario RPG worked on Brothership, for instance.
Thanks - I've added this as a pinned comment: ADDENDUM: Although I compared credits for Bowser's Inside Story+Bowser Junior's Journey and Superstar Saga+Bowser's Minions, I made a typo in my search for Paper Jam so there are actually two more people to credit: - Chihiro Fujioka who did World Design for Paper Jam and who was also credited on the 2020 Olympics game; and - Jun Iwasaki on battle design as he was in 2015. Acquire was also recently acquired by Kadokawa, which also owns FromSoft and Spike Chunsoft. Both of which are listed as 3rd party devs that Nintendo is strengthening relations with
@paperluigi6132 heh interesting, though I don't think FromSoft has the appetite for making platform exclusive titles anymore, they're likely focusing more on ports.
@@SamirSoriano They are multi platform now and it has been their winning strategy for a long time. If they had remained exclusive to Sony, they would have never garnered the creative freedom and the massive playerbase of PC and Xbox. It was a big deal when they ported the original Dark Souls to PC and it propelled the popularity of the Souls genre.
Finally a good Nintendo Channel without clickbaiting misinformation, and with a clear perspective on Nintendo Topics. Even though i don’t agree with your take about piracy, i really like your videos a lot. A channel that i finally can recommend. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Nobody else does credits analysis like you do, and it’s part of why I love this channel. I’ve done it for a long while myself to help guide my own development career and give myself steps to how I can reach Nintendo myself, but I still find myself surprised by the details in these videos.
This talk of brothership has me wondering what the budget was, and how long it was in development for. Seems to be much more ambitious than any previous Mario and Luigi game, which leads me to believe Nintendo is going to push this game hard.
If I remember somewhere on the game’s Wikipedia page, Nintendo filed a trademark of the Mario & Luigi series in January of 2020, 3 months after its original company AlphaDream filed bankruptcy so I’m assuming it had been worked on for 4 years?
Many of Acquire's games that were Sony exclusives have been ported onto Switch as well, so it's not like Acquire were unfamiliar with the system. They are very good at working with graphical limitations, as well as their talent for expressive animation, so they were a very good choice. I wonder if maybe AlphaDream's management were asking for a little too much, maybe that's why they went under so quickly. A lot of these smaller Japanese studios seem to regularly have funding problems, it seems.
i knew in my heart there was no way mario+luigi series was dead when AD was shuttered - there was no way N was walking away from a huge long-running series like that - it was upsetting when sales were announced and AD was closed, but i knew there was no way M+L was done!!!!!!!!! ❤
I can't see any discrete writing credit which isn't uncommon for Nintendo games (or even M&L games) where the story is often worked out long after the gameplay mechanics. On Echoes of Wisdom, a lot of it came from Aonuma himself but he has no additional credit and on the Iwata Asks for Dream Team they discuss collectively having an idea so I guess it's largely a team effort among the senior people - Kobayashi and Maekawa but also potentially some of the new Acquire and EPD people pitching in too.
Off-topic question, but how do you think the “Trump Tariffs” could impact Nintendo and the launch of Switch 2? I’ve been seeing reports that these tariffs could increase the price of Chinese/imported goods by quite a margin. What would be Nintendo’s plan to avoid these tariffs if they even could?
I really hope this game gets a performance patch. IGN was right. The terrible performance makes enjoying this game a chore. It's so distracting, but it's clear there's a good game underneath the bad technical state.
It's okay to agree with a reviewer who voiced his opinions in a review, therefore making a terrible review at that, rendering you an idiot for thinking it was an actual review. Why do Nintendo games keep flopping nowadays? Peach Showtime, Mario vs DK remake, Another Code Recollectio, Endless Ocean Luminous, Zelda EoW, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Zelda EoW, Luigi Mansion 2 HD etc
EoW did well, Jamboree was well received and the others were very minor games. Remember that a huge part of Nintendo's sales at this point will be its evergreens so can't blame them for keeping their powder dry on major titles for the next system.
I don’t imagine Nintendo intended for most of their releases this year to be received so flaccidly from fans and critics, but it may be the inverse where they’ve kept their strongest teams busy on Switch 2 software
How the FRICK did Mario Party flop??? You must live under a rock if you think that, also Zelda is a GOTY contender. The rest of those are niche remakes.

@ makes sense
Apparently the development finished early this year going by the ESRB filing.
The final boss gives me a lot of Octopath Traveler II final boss vibes.
The setting it's pretty damm similar, I wonder if they got inspiration on that
I am still waiting to have enough time to enjoy this game. It looks promising, i can't wait
