Curious to know why you feel the smaller format isn't as good for photography? Does it come down to getting shallower depth of field? From what I've seen, great photos are possible on any format.

Thanks. What about the weight of S5 lenses? Are they heavier than my M43 lenses? I use 12 to 60 mm and 14 to 140mm. I would consider total weight znd not only Body weight.

This. I have the S5 and it's super light for sure, but the lenses are mammoths compared to my G9 lenses in size and price. I have a 14-140 (28-280 FF equivalent) that is half the size of the 24-105 the S5 came with and much cheaper. Granted the 24-105 is a constant f4, but still. Really can't compare IMO when you are talking about lenses. Plus you have a way larger selection with M43.

If anyone has experience with the Nikon z6ii, how does that compare with the S5? I'm trying to get my first camera and want to do both independent filmmaking for school and personal and I also want to do some photography. Right now, it's between the S5 and the Nikon z6ii I think but I'm going to wait probably for the next line up of cameras to see how they are plus it will drive the prices down for both these cameras probably. Thanks

Can someone please talk about the colour! It doesn’t look great - Skin tones are super mushy, even with a. 10 bit sensor! This is one of the most important issues when choosing a camera and everyone seems to persist in talking about depth of field between full frame and M43 sensors. Why?

For those extra 300 you do get the full V-log with much better colour science and cineD2! That with a full frame sensor and better lowlight is worth the extra 300 bucks for me. Also I got the S5 for 1700

Hi Ryan, very informative video and was super useful. Although I am still stuck at deciding whether it is a good choice to invest into a camera or not. I study filmmaking at uni and would also like to get into short commercial work potentially. Would you be able to drop me a quick recommendation of what to go for as a first camera, which lenses etc as I am manly interested in video? Thanks 🤘😁

The Lumix G7 is a great option, super affordable (less than $500) and has good quality 4k footage and access to a lineup of amazing and affordable lenses. And you can eventually upgrade to the G9 or the GH series. That's always my recommendation to beginner filmmakers.

@@nickcarneyphotography No don't get the G7, get the G95 it's awesome for Video, its only 700 bucks, it's more newer than the G7 and has much better Auto Focus and Stabilization.

That's why I returned the S5 because the Mark ii shoots better video, actually, I shoot my photos with the G95 or the LX 10 if I just need standard portrait or landscape pics.

Hi, I am very doubtful about whether to buy the GH5 II or the S5, since they now cost the same. I would like to focus mainly on video - but without giving up taking good photos - so I had in mind the GH5 II for having better stabilization than the S5. I especially like making surfing videos, so maybe the 4/3 system, with smaller lenses to carry in the backpack (and cheaper), and the x2 multiplication factor that turns a 50-200 into a 400mm, plus the stabilization, 4k video without croping, etc ... is more suitable. However, the S5 with a full frame sensor appears to have better image quality, specially in low light ... Although it comes with a 20-60mm kit that is not stabilized, compared to the 12-60 kit of the GH II which is, to be able to record in hand without any gymbal ... Anyway, I'm a mess. What would you recommend me, taking into account my (non-professional) claims? Many thanks in avance.

I am also between GH5 II and S5, but leaning strongly towards GH5 II. The cost of glass is way lower (and way lighter to carry). For video I think that GH5 II is better, but the S5 is better for photos.
In my case, a video camera for weddings, the GH5 II seems the choice to make. Pairing it with sigma 18-35 and Panasonic 42.5.
If you want photos probably go for the S5, but the lenses are more expensive and heavier

  • @superzero4250

The GH5II is going to be the sleeper hit in the market. The upgrade is worth it in my opinion, and it will drop in price. When it is $1499, it will fly off the shelves. The S5 seems to me more like a full frame G9 without the top panel LCD. I have to admit I like the form factor of the S5 way better, it is what the GH series should have been. I also don’t understand why Panasonic is so stingy with the Log profiles. First you had to pay $99, and now they include V-Log in the S5 the photography oriented camera, but V-Log L in the GH5II the more video centric model. Should it have not been the other way around…

Please advice request to a begginer! I'm considering de GH5II, I'm already a native Lumix lens user (12mm-35mm 2.8 , 25mm 1.7mm) do you think changing to a sigma 18-35 or canon 24-70 it's going to help me achieve more cinematic look than with the Lumix lens I have? Worth going in the no native lens direction in your experience? Thanks

    • @thewalkingvloggingman7152

U need to get some some video shooting experience before you start thinking about which lens u need, an experienced camera man can shoot with the G95 with the Lumix 12-60 kit lens and have better quality than a rookie shooting with the GH5 Mark ii with an 12-35 Pro Leica Lens.

If I didn't have any mft lenses I couldn't justify the GH5 mkii...Unless I record 422 10 bit over 30 minutes...The S5 has a better image, more dynamic range, better lowlight, the option for Blackmagic Raw and Prores Raw output, better photos, etc. The GH5 is legendary but the S5 is an overall better buy imo. Great video though.

Those L Mount Lens are't cheap buddy, their HEAVY and the auto focus is not as good on the S5 as it is on the Mark ii. And you will have to shoot in the APS-C MODE if you want good Video quality.
