      Thanks, Mr Leo. I honestly didn't think I would see that much of a difference given it was an incremental upgrade before the GH6, but it was quite a welcomed improvement. :)

    Congrats Shane, such an interesting review. Panasonic is inching better and better as time moves on! I am happy to see that as I really love the IBIS that Panasonic provides, and of course Olympus. I wish Panasonic had bought Olympus and morphed the focus system into its lineup, but I have admit much better than the GH5. Great video, really good coloring, big thumbs up 👍👍👍

    Congratulations on a great video and thank you for sharing it. I would like to ask you a question, as the next trip will be in Africa (but not in the cities) and I will be shooting people with dark skin, in your opinion which profile would you choose in the GH5 MII? Do you think the flat could be fine and then edit the clips in post? Or....? Thanks

  • @pianopotato

    Great video Shane! Just a small additional point about audio. This second version of the GH5, along with the S5, can take line level audio through the 3.5mm input. Most (if any?) other cameras at these sub $2,000AUD body only price point only have mic level inputs. Even more amazing is that many hybrid cameras that are twice the price still require expensive XLR adaptors on top of the camera to achieve this!

    The AF looks solid on the S5 and GH5 Mark II. Right now I use my Sony a6400 at weddings and the AF does great for capturing processions during ceremonies and a whole lot of other things. I wonder if these two cameras could handle that - where there are other faces in the crowd surrounding my subject that is walking toward me?

    Great review. Would you rec. (Body-only) the S5 (first gen.) at $1,500 or the GH5 ($1,197) for a hybrid camera (street photography, some vlogs and travel videos)? I'm just not sure if the full frame & the 4 megapixel difference is to be considered a big sign. factor in this case. Or maybe going with a Sony A7C (same price point, but sacrifices the 60 4k over a better low light & better AF). Any rec.? Thanks!

    I got one of these 2 weeks ago, and so far it seems to work wonderfully. Much better than my Nikon D800 in many respects, including AF performance and low light quality -- in both stills and video. It also beats out my Sony AX100 and Panasonic DVX200 camcorders. This being my first mirrorless camera, I was expecting the EVF to show a more "true to final output" than it does. Quite a few images that looked overexposed and washed out in the EVF turn out perfectly fine.

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh 2 года назад

      Most interesting the comparison with DVX200 and AX100, both of which I use. I am considering pulling the trigger on the GH5 M2 now, and allowing 12 months after introduction of GH6 for firmware updates to fix inevitable early issues, and for initial price to drop. I am already happy with G9 AF and the GH5 M2 seems to be even better.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  2 года назад +2

      The GH5II is pretty great but if you can wait a few months see what the GH6 can do if it's not out of your price range. The GH5S is the best of the bunch for a studio or pro camera but it has no stabilisation so if you need that the GH5II is a great choice.

    I have the S5 but those lens prices… I like linear focus so the GH5ii simply won’t work as I’d have to get the expensive lenses just to get linear focusing which is provided to all lenses on the Panasonic. I wish they’d just flat out bring linear focusing to all lenses in the GH5ii so I could easily switch but I can’t since non-linear focus is so unpredictable

  • @TheSeanBampton

    Oof. The colour on the S5 in CineV2 at 6:51 is...something. It's almost like the white balance is set to tungsten. The Mk2 looks like a great camera and that IBIS....so, sweet. I'll be grabbing a Mk2 as soon as I can get my hands on one in Canada. Thanks Shane!

    The S5 footage looks slightly overexposed for my taste. I can see much more details in your skin in the mft footages… I own an S5 and G9 and I must say the advantage in dynamic range is negligible in real life. If both cameras are exposed correctly I don’t see any difference (but the S5 enables me to underexpose without noise punishment)

      I had it all set to A mode and auto iso.

    • @vladislavihl
      @vladislavihl 3 года назад

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy , I use the Manual mode for both (S5 & G9) cameras, so, I can judge how good the S5 in A mode based on other reviews on RUclips only. Having watched (maybe) a thousand of different reviews of the S5, I’ve got an impression the camera has massive problems with the highlights (I even watched a comparison between an Olympus camera and S5 where the Olympus performed much better than S5 in highlights recovery). But, as I said in my previous comment, the S5 performs excellent in shadows and allows me to underexpose heavily to get maximum details and colors in highlights in post (without much noise). That’s why I use the manual mode with my S5 only!
