Maybe the GH6 will suprise us with PDAF.. Will upgrade next year from my G85 (No 4K60, abysmal AF, no 10Bit video, not USB powered but most importantly: no proper USB remote for gimbals!!) to either GH5 II or GH6 and will check your affiliate links when i do so!

I was shocked to find out that moving the square on the screen did nothing. I spent a few hours messing around with the settings and could not find a way to enable this essential function. Got one, great camera.
    Tried the streaming function, and it works. Just one caveat - you need to make sure available wi-fi upload speed is adequate for the streaming quality that you choose. If the quality you set is higher than the available bandwidth, you get no indication at the camera. The stream will be continually interrupted with "Reconnecting". Not an issue for folk in parts of the world where strong signal is a given, but where I am in south west Australia, I have to be very careful about this one. I usually do multi-cam live streams using a BMD ATEM video switcher into a laptop, and the ATEM shows me how much the stream is buffering, and if it "maxes out".
    But in areas where I know the signal is strong, this will be great for "quick and dirty" single camera streaming.

    • @frankluo230
      @frankluo230 2 года назад

      Hi there, probably very late to this comment but I wonder how can you Incorporate GH5 mkii wirelessly with Atem mini pro to live streaming? Does it support IP video protocol other than RSTP to RUclips and the like? If not possible, have you tried USB Ethernet adapter to use its new firmware enabled wired streaming function? I can't find any video on RUclips or even web forum discussion on that topic. Thanks heaps in advance. Cheers from Brisbane

    • @sidsquid1
      @sidsquid1 2 года назад +1

      @@frankluo230 The only time I use the GH5 "direct" is when I'm shooting single camera, so the camera connects wirelessly direct to a 4G modem, no ATEM at all.
      On multi-cam shoots, all cams go into my ATEM Mini Pro via the 4 HDMI inputs - HDMI is the only way in as far as I know. Up to 3 cams connect via HDMI cable, and the 4th (the GH5 or any of the others) is via a Hollyland Mars 400-S wireless HDMI system (so it's still not "wireless as far as the camera is concerned).
      The Mini Pro then connects to laptop with ethernet-to-ethernet cable RJ45 (yes my laptop has an RJ45 port!).
      Does that help any?

    • @frankluo230
      @frankluo230 2 года назад

      @@sidsquid1 thank you for the detailed reply. Since the built in encoder caps at 1080p60fps for wifi streaming, it connects to a 4g modem is essentially the same as GH5 + Accsoon M1 with an Android mobile. I was hoping for a way of using the wifi transmitted video data into a switcher either OBS or hardware switcher like Atem mini with HDMI adapter of course. There is a way to grasp RTSP stream from internet into OBS but that is like the long way around unnecessarily. Another option would be invest in an NDI encoder like Birddog flex 4K in and Ethernet the NDI data to use in OBS. Or Hollyland Mars 400, Teredek Spark 4k, but again, neither requires the unique feature of GH5II built in encoder.

    Thank you for your review; I'm looking to add a 4K 'safety shot' component for filming live shows with older Sony HD video cameras, a friend successfully used a GH5 for this purpose; clearly the GH5S is better suited to this role with such high lighting dynamics, though trading off everything else that comes with the GH5M2 seems a high 'opportunity lost' cost to choose the GH5S in preference - with the GH5S it would end up almost solely used for 'on tripod, fixed wide safety shot' recording, with the GH5M2 it would serve a multi purpose for a variety of live use and run and gun situations that would benefit from the IBIS requiring a higher resolution output - the obvious - get both - would be nice! The other alternative is looking to the lower end Sony A7iii though the colour science doesn't seem as warm. I did see a comparison of the S5 and GH5s, though that involves FF lenses etc - You use both; love to hear your opinion; thanks :)

      If you have 50mm S lens on an S5 versus a 25mm G lens on a GH5II, the FOV should be very similar. The same should follow with anamorphic too, just get the equivalent focal length. Sirui has a set of affordable Anamorphic lenses for µ4/3, with the option for EF adaption or versions. I would assume they are originally designed for ASP-C. So if you get the EF mount version and use a speed booster with the GH5II, you should get a more traditional cinematic anamorphic field of view…
