The first channel to show this OS upgrade that actually knows Batocera inside out. I've used Batocera on my rg351m and all my PC builds for years. Once this is a few versions in it will be more than just amazing... Great work, best guide on youtube, give this man a like and get this OS seen for all rg35xx users
Gonna wait until the cfw is better but thats amazing 😮the RG35XX+ is my first retro handheld so its awesome that it gets updates overtime 😁. I snagged mine a few weeks ago and it's been an absolute blast so far
I don't think it's quite ready yet, but maybe once it leaves beta. I had a number of issues ranging from WiFi not working right, to not finding most of my box art on the device.
Some people might think the title is clickbait. But hold on "THIS IS A GAME CHANGER!!!" is exactly what the software does... you can select and change games. So well done 🙂
i tried Batocera lite on the plus model as well as the H , Dreamcast is okay if you frameskip and N64 is fine on Rice but has no hot key so you she's to reset the console every time. i'll wait till it updates before using it full time , the Stock OS does its job but is just clunky.
I'm still tinkering with the stock OS, but I want to try BL. Still didn't decide to rewrite the original card or use another. Would have to buy a new card in this case. Nice to know that there are more customizations. And it's beautiful to see the bezels. The PSP performance increase may be a mind changer for me and risk Batocera Lite once for all
I think it’s not 100% there yet Dreamcast wise. I found the stock OS almost unusable so for me this is the point to switch but so far I am super impressed
There is a flycastvl core on batocera which runs dreamcast VERY well, at least as good as stock. Make sure to disable auto save/load state for that or it will crash.
Once I saw that there was a good custom OS available for this device, I went ahead and ordered on. It also helped to get the sale price too. This device will be what I take with me all the time, replacing my Miyoo Mini in that role.
Great video, thank you! I'm still struggling to get my Amiga game library working on this, had no problem with all my other handhelds, but Batocera is constantly saying missing kickstarts which they're not, they're all in the BIOS folder, doesnt really give much detail on whether this is the correct folder for the kickstarts, i'm not sure where else they should be other than the BIOS folder.
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed. I’ve never had an Amiga so it’s not something I’m familiar with. Do you usually put the kickstarts in the bios folder or the game folder in Retroarch?
@@thegamelounge659 Yeah, Amiga needs Kickstarts to play its games, and they are stored in BIOS folder which RetroArch points too. With my other devices, i've sometimes had to download the emulator within RetroArch settings, and do all the core updates etc, i'll see if that works. Amiga doesnt work on Stock OS either, just doesnt even show up as an emulator in the main screen, its not a massive issue, i've got Amiga working on all my other handhelds, but would've been nice to have them on this too. I'll keep messing about with it and see where I get. Appreciate your reply though.
I tried it and I'll give it more time before being my daily driver. Performance seems there (except dreamcast) but I was having weird issues with scrapping crashing and the emulation station would also often crash and the theme/gui would also often crash and had to reload while browsing game lists. The bootup was also atrocious. I was using a 2 card setup with a large library maybe that had something to do with it?
Yes my first boot was slow, the times started after was significantly faster. I found with scraping it’s best to literally put down the device until it’s done. The more I browsed the more it would crash
@thegamelounge659 every boot was super slow in my case. Did the same for scrapping. Left it alone but it was crashing all the time. I have a good sd card as well.
Yes I know screenscraper needs a username and password for more than one game at a time. I tended to only use it for incorrect matches. I only have a few hundred games. I guess if you have entire MAME libraries this could be annisaue
It looks great, a definite improvement. Wi-fi performance suddenly becomes useable and the scraping tools built in are fantastic. Unfortunately though, it turns the Dreamcast emulation to garbage, it reverses the A & B buttons and stops the function button up the top from working, so a bit more work is needed.
Did you switch it to the standalone Flycast emulator in the settings. The function button brings up the Flycast menu and A/B seemed fine here. Performance in this still not there though. I hope it’s something that gets resolved quickly. There was another release as of yesterday although that focused on DS issues.
I liked this overview. What I didn’t like was when yoi directly recorded with a screen capture device. You were showing it at 16:9 which is not represenative of built in screen. You should simply note when using a screencapture device and that you are using a external monitor.
Hey, thanks for the comment and advice, you are correct. I do have the section about the HDMI Out switching to a widescreen capture and adding bezels, but the scraper section is before this so a little note (or simply putting this section after would have been useful).
It's great - unless the button mapping is all wrong, then it's an utter nightmare to use... The lack of Wi-Fi doesn't help much either. The modded - much smaller - version of the official OS is a better bet at the moment (until Garlic OS leaves Alpha).
Wi-Fi now works fine as of the BETA and I didn’t notice any major issue with button mappings. Although there was a release yesterday sorting the DS mappings, the good thing is they are literally releasing a new version every day it seems. So hopefully the issues will be resolved.
Actually I have had issues with the emulators not booting sometimes when using the HDMI out. It doesn’t crash as the hotkey brings you back to the menu
Can anyone confirm that the HDMI output works ok on this OS, I have tried and it just doesn't connect to the TV? I tried it with the stock OS that the device came with and the output works fine so I believe it's an OS issue but wanted to check if others experienced the same. Thanks
I tried downloading Koriki/Batocera and couldn’t get the WiFi to work (something about only being able to use WPA2 and not WPA3). I couldn’t get my router to use WPA2 so I reverted back to the stock OS. Does this version of Batocera have this WiFi issue? Or is it only the Koriki version?
Unfortunately, using this CFW causes the device to turn on any time you have the device charging. Even when turning it off while charging, it just turns back on again. Only solution for this is to set it to "Suspend System" and it will stay in Sleep mode while charging. Also, when entering or exiting a game, there's a very annoying and subtle "crack" in the audio. Not the end of the world, but it's far from perfect.
That’s interesting, I did notice the ‘charging screen’. Let’s hope these teething issues get sorted quickly. For me the DC performance is the biggest issue
How come when I downloaded it and flashed it to my sd card it did not have any consoles included above SNES and MEGADRIVE? How come yours has Neo Geo, N64, and Dreamcast? Mine didn’t have those and I downloaded the beta version. I was very disappointed with this build to be honest.
So you need to make sure you backup the games on the card that comes with the drive. If you take the card that comes with the device you can copy the Roms folder off of it and then move them onto the new drive. Personally I didn’t do that. I just loaded a number of games straight onto the device. Interesting you were disappointed. What was the main reason.
@@thegamelounge659 I was disappointed because the way they created this image is not clean. It partitions the sd card into 3 separate drives, which is not necessary. I had one hell of a time locating the roms folder. I couldn’t find it after way too much time looking for it. It’s just frustrating. OnionOS was a way better experience. So easy and straight forward. One partition, and folders are easy to locate. Plus, all the emulators are optimized for each console. It was a seamless journey transitioning over to OnionOS for my Miyoo Mini Plus. In all honesty, I am hating Anbernic right now. This is my first product from them and it’s been a horrible first impression. My RG35XX H came with a corrupt sd card. I tried removing the extra -XX2.etc that it automatically puts in each file name when you download the whole thing at once (I would have downloaded them one by one but because Anbernic didn’t want to use a GitHub or put a download on their own site they used GoogleDrive and it’s exceeded their quota a long time ago, but anyway I digress) it still didn’t work. Now Koriki has this new Batocera lite. It works, but it’s a rough ride. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why it doesn’t show PS1, Dreamcast (which I heard doesn’t work very well anyway), N64, or any console above 16 bit. Also, I was unable to find where to put the roms in this batocera lite build. Honestly, at this point I’m just done with it. I’m going to shelve the dam thing and hope Garlic for It will come out soon. I’m just going to be happy with my Miyoo Mini Plus. I bought the RG35XX H because I wanted a horizontal with HDMI that could play Dreamcast. What I got was a useless handheld with nice buttons. I have to say, your story is not the first like this I have heard.
