I watched at least 5 videos on this, and I want it more and more every single time. Even without the sticks being hall sticks, I am SERIOUSLY thinking about getting it.
I really was on the fence with this for a while but ultimately ended up going for a Retroid Pocket 2s. It’s about $20 more but similar form factor and seems to be able to do quite a bit more for that extra $20
I love the 2S I have a green one. It’s not nearly as pocketable and when they came out the 2S was twice as much. I keep forgetting the price had come down (with the exception of the metal 2S)
I don’t play a ton of N64 but I can play around with it and see what I can come up with. Different processor so I don’t know them off the top of my head
Got my eye on this for a bit but holding off. My powkiddy rgb30 does just as well as far as i can tell. Maybe when the software improves ill give it a shot. A totally hidden jem i found is a price of Persia clone for the gba called Lady Sia. The artwork is georgous, the platforming is tight, and the levels get challenging quick.
You would be pretty close with the RG405M. If they upgrade that chipset from the T618 this year we should have something very close to form factor with that power. With power comes price however.
@CellPhish yeah 405m was one I wanted but already had rp3+ when it came out and also just really don't like metal handhelds I can't wait until the successor to the 405m tho I most likely will go for it unless there is significant dealbreakers
@fernojake yeah but they are both wayyy bigger and have 16:9 screens not even close to the same form factor as this, already have a steam deck so not too interested in those
@@CellPhishthanks! I just found how it works. For others: when you are in that point, the system request you to press the buttons in an specific order, ok, just press the buttons you want instead to that order and that's it
Does Anbernic sell this on Amazon officially? or should I order directly through their official site? I only ask because I see this model on Amazon but I don't want to buy a version made by a fly-by-night company that's going to be bad. Thanks in advance, since I'm very new to these retro handhelds but this model is exactly what I've been wanting for a while.
Anbernic Traditionally hasn’t sold on Amazon. You can find them on AliExpress however. There you will get free shipping but the price is normally a wash or w/in $10. Hope this help. Early welcome to this awesome community
@@CellPhish thanks so much, I appreciate it. So is it worth it that much to go Anbernic brand, or could I get away with getting a RG35XX H from another brand on Amazon without too many potential issues?
@@B3nG420 yea I just got mine yesterday and it's labeled Anbernic on the back and the bootup has Anbernic displayed so idk. Pretty neat so far, just forgot to get a 2nd SD so that's in the mail today. The Dreamcast intro into Crazy Taxi was like a nostalgia bomb.
They are very different. The 35xxH more compares to the 353m. It’s more pocketable however and great for quick games while waiting in line or between tasks
Right now it comes down to chip costs. That said give it a year or so as the more powerful chips drop to the pricing of these. This has a chip from a children’s tablet so it should get there.
Buddy this thing is great, but every time I turn it on the speakers have an annoying buzz/humming sound. When I shutdown in batocera sometimes it doesn't fully shutdown, which you can tell by said annoying buzzing sound. Anbernic told me the problem is the firmware, which I highly doubt. Any suggestions? Otherwise just going to return it.
Yeah I tried Batocera for 2 weeks. I’m back to the updated stick OS. I’ve never liked Anbernic firmware so much. I can almost garantee it’s the firmware. Mine would get stuck for 10 minutes on boot up and then suddenly work after I hit reset a bunch of times. Remember it’s a beta. Not official yet
@@CellPhish Yeah. Mine randomly gets stuck during shutdown. I'm doing the updated stock firmware now with a new sandisk sd card as the one they sent me has.....issues to say the least
That’s fair. I would say it depends on who you ask. For example getting my kids into this hobby almost requires a stick as primary as everything they have grown up playing has a stick
The 353m has a better chipset with the rk3566. That being said it’s a lot heavier and can spike in temp from hot to cold due to the metal shell. The 353’s also have dual boot Linux and Android. All that being said the 353m is also double the price so not a great comparison
@@CellPhish im not really worried about the price im more interested in the hdmi output. So was curious out of the two what can handle games better and what has better os upgrades
My processor has overloaded and my cpu drivers burned to a crisp my bob talks so fast 😮😅 I’ve had to re watch the video several times in order to get it all down I think my main drivers need a few spec upgrades lol 😂
I already did that on my RG35XX+ video. Same performance so I put the link in the comments to shorten this video a little. But I think you are correct. First time I’ve cut most of that and I wasn’t sure how it would land.
Mine bricked after a week. Out of the box it wouldn't charge, I opened it up and disconnected/reconnected the battery. Problem solved. After two days it began hanging up on the boot logo, I would press reset once or twice to get it to boot up. After one week it will no longer boot up. I have a new SanDisk microSD card to put an OS on, but the files I downloaded from the Anbernic website won't flash to my SD card, and I can't find a 3rd party OS to install.
There isn’t really anything 3rd party. Have you reached out to Anbernic? It might now be a couple weeks before you would hear back unfortunately it’s Chinese New Year. If I remember correctly your SD card needs to be formatted to Fat32, might be why it’s not flashing. I just updated mine and am trying to remember how I did it

I think the pocketabuility is what really makes this a gem

Trying to figure out the best RA settings for running N64, not having much luck.
I don’t play a ton of N64 but I can play around with it and see what I can come up with. Different processor so I don’t know them off the top of my head
You want to change the gfx plugin in RA quick menu > options and change to rice (most performant, but graphical glitches) or gln64 (best compromise)
Whats taht rally game at 14:56?
NeoDrift. It’s an old arcade game that’s good for testing screen tearing. Also took me a lot of testing devices to beat

Nice. I’ll check that out thank you
I would be willing to pay so much if they made something this exact size and form factor that is powerful enough for gamecube and ps2

Retroid pocket 4 pro and Odin 2 can play ps2 and GameCube with ease I've heard

Given this device is 95% 8-bit through to PS1 it was 100% the right decision to have the left stick be in the bottom position.
