the idea behind the clipshield is solid, but the designs from that particular etsy store are flawed; they have a hollow print structure and are prone to splitting along the print grain at stress points. i've also found them to be slightly too big for the device, but that's easily fixed with some craft felt or whatever material one has on hand.
Thanks for the information. I have had mine for the 405m for about 5 months and I'm lucky to not have any issues with the stress points yet. Any recommendations for other designs or sellers of something similar?
@@thomaschipman Yeah, he does good work. I got my MM+ Gripcase from parttimeCAD and love it. I checked his store first and saw that he had a clam shell case for the 35XXH but not a clipcase. Im very new to the retro scene and know very little about this kinda stuff. Would it be possible to add/emulate DOS games? I wanna play the old elder scrolls games.
So it is possible to emulate DOS games. The issue you will run into with a lot of the games are the controls. With only so many buttons to map to keyboard keys and no mouse control. You will have to be picky with what you can play. Games like the old elder scrolls would not work as I'm pretty sure the mouse would be mandatory for those games.
I can’t decide between this or the RG35XX Plus. I already own PSP and Vita so the horizontal factor I have down and I want the vertical but this video makes the H look so cooool. HELP!
I have not tried netplay with these devices yet myself. However, when I have tried it before with other handheld it is kinda a hassle to get it to work and finicky once you do. I hope this is something that can be improved for all handhelds.
This is the case on all CFW I have tested. Seems to be something with hardware as someone commented that they replaced the analog sticks with hall effect ones and that fixed the issue. I have not done this yet myself so I can't confirm it.
@@PhyrexTechs It turns out that cheap sticks are used. Is there any information that the company will fix this in new batches or do you just need to resolder it yourself?
As far as I know Anbernic has made no statements on it. Also no soldering is needed to replace the analogs as they are connected by ribbon cables. However, it does require a tear down of the device.
I have seen a lot of debate about that. I have yet to try one so I can't give my opinion yet. From what I have heard the RGB30 has a better screen with higher resolution and the 1:1 ratio is great for GB/GBC and systems can run 8:7 or 240p systems. The only downside I have heard is that the build quality is not as good as other options at the price point. Thanks for your input and I hope to be able to try one out for myself soon.
@@PhyrexTechsI own both and while the RGB30 really don’t have a chance compared to the XXH, I still find it decent enough. It being plastic build makes it light weight and easy to play for a longer period of time. I found that the OS available is another winning factor for the RGB30. With ArkOS, I can simply press one button to go shut down with auto save and go back to the hand really quickly. I don’t have battery issue unlike others, but then I did unplug the battery and modded it. It’s more user and beginner friendly than XXH’s stock and especially Batocera. I love how super pocketable the XXH is though.
@@PhyrexTechs Definitely worth a try if you get the chance. The build quality is ok, but the amazing screen and I believe slightly more powerful chip makes up for it. JelOS has stopped supporting the platform, but the latest release is pretty solid. Haven't tried ArkOS but I have heard great things. Keep up the great work with always excellent, well-paced and detailed videos!
I was looking at the rgb30, trimui smart pro, and the rg35xxh. grabbed this one because it was about $10 cheaper than the powkiddy and honestly, the trimui is appealing but I feel it's also less tested over time than anbernic and powkiddy products.
Hey man! I just purchased the Anbernic rg35xx H and its been a nightmare. When I turn the system on it just gets stuck on the Anbernic loading screen. After resetting it/shutting it off and on it usually randomly works after several attempts (Usually takes like 15+ min of repeating this random reset on/off process for the system to finally boot up). It works well when its on but getting it to turn on and run has been a pain. This is all happening within my first day with the system. Any idea what could be wrong or how I can fix it? Thanks so much!
This sounds like an issue with the SD card. You will probably will want to get a new brand name SD card and flash it with the stock OS or something like muOS. If you cant get a new SD card at the moment you might was to try re-flashing the one you have.
Just got my first one waiting on it to come in the mail any pointers you would recommend I want to play mainly rpg Pokémon and anime games should I get a better sd card stuff like that?
Not sure about that one as I have not had the chance to use the Smart Pro. Maybe someone who has used both might be able to share their thoughts on it.
If you hit the Menu button on the top you will be taken to the drastic menu. From there you should be able to select save or load state. You can use left and right to change which state you are saving or loading.
Hey, no problem with asking. I have a video that goes over how to update the Stock software and one of the options Anbernic has on their site comes with all the stock games. ruclips.net/video/PKbGJ9WSaf0/видео.html Be aware people have been having issues with the download quota and that is something that Anbernic will have to fix or you can try some of the things I posted in the pinned comment on that video.
Yeah, Castlevania SotN runs great. While you can connect Bluetooth headphones, the audio delay is just too much for me. It would really need aptX low latency for the delay to be acceptable for me.
I only played the first 15-20 minutes but it is playable with some slowdowns. You can put frame skip to 1 or auto and it takes care of most of the slowdowns.
I did not. It is not natively supported and I did not want to try to manually add it. Even if I could get it to work, it would not have been a good experience on this device.
Ive got my self one in clear purple and loving it 😂 but ive got some new sd cards orderd but just wounding if its a good idear to cody all the game roms from the stock sd card to the new ones or when i get the new sd card to i start frrsh with roms as will be adding n64 games and some ps1 games that i realy want to play on this hand held..
Awesome the purple one looks nice. You can pull over the roms from the stock SD card if you like to have large libraries but it's always better to use your own or a collection like Tiny Best Set Go. I like to have a small library of games that I know I want to play but some people like to have huge libraries.
@@PhyrexTechs yea I think I'll look for my own and grab some of the stock ROMs and still came with a lot of great games just noticed a lot were doubles on the 2nd stock SD card.. but have a great time with it as it's my 1st retro hand held
It's so close to being the perfect pocketable handheld for me, I was hoping to find a device that can handle all PS1, DC, N64 and PSP games in a small form factor that still has comfortable ergonomics and viewing screen and this one nearly checks all the marks for a fantastic price. I guess I'm better off waiting for one more generation of SOC improvements. For the record, I own a Steam Deck and it's an amazing device, but I've been in the market for a very small handheld that is much more portable than a Deck.
Stock firmware does not have it setup. However, I just tested it on MuOS and Batocera. MuOS works right away while on Batocera you will have to set the core to Vice and it will work.
Well performance in the same on all of them. It really comes down to which form factor you want. I enjoy the SP because I love the clam shell. I can just throw it in my pocket without messing with a case. But if you are mostly going to use it around the house then that might not be important to you.
Did you find out if the huge dead zone it is not a a hardware problem, but the Stock OS was set up that way? have you tried to install the batocera and MuOS to check if these huge deadzone are still in there?
I have tried both Bato and Muos and the issue followed. So most likely a hardware issue. Someone claimed swapping out the sticks with hall effect ones fixes the issue but I have not been able to confirm that myself.
The price widely varies on which store you go to. I have seen people say they got it under 50$ on Tictok, or Temu stores. Those stores can always be somewhat of a gamble, so if you want to get them from a more reputable store like the Anbernic website or Amazon it can be 70-90$ anbernic.com/products/rg35xx-h amzn.to/4awWa8E
They are the same performance wise and it really comes down to if you would want the horizontal layout with analog sticks or the vertical Gameboy feel.
It is not powerful enough for 3ds games. I still think the best option for 3DS is to find a used 2DS/2DS XL and then use the H shop to get all your games.
I bought rg351p with 3:2 aspect ratio, gba games play great, but anything below or above cripples my eyes. I found tht nds and ps1 games somehow okayish, but retrogames are not enjoyable
All these below GB : Red/Green/Blue, Yellow GBC: Gold/Silver, Crystal GBA: Ruby/Sapphire, FireRed/LeafGreen, Emerald DS: Diamond/Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black/White, Black2/White2 This is also not including all of the great ROM hacks like Unbound and hundreds of others for these systems.
Bummer that swapping out the sticks didn't work any better for you (saw your comment on reddit). The inconsistent reports on that are kind of frustrating.
That is going to depend on the game. Some will be unplayable and some will be playable with some random slow downs. If your main focus is on PSP I would maybe look for a different device as the 4:3 screen is not the best for it.
@@PhyrexTechs ah okay, thanks! I ordered one a couple days ago and I’ve just been trying to figure out some of its capabilities; the psp emulation intrigued me a bit but i am excited to try everything out nonetheless
That is a tough one, as you can see with some of the comment threads people have different opinions on this. The RGB30 has the better screen and the options of OS's have been around for while and are fleshed out (JelOS and ArkOS) The 35XXh has the better overall build quality and people always talk about finding crazy deals for it below $50. The OS's will improve overtime and get better.
@@PhyrexTechs I read a lot of problems about rgb30. Especially about the battery and dpad. Customers have made self-correction videos. Unbelievable. I choose anbernic
So now you have a 3D printed case that protects your analog sticks from sliding in and out of your pocket that you can flip around to the back, but then you don't have the nice rubber pads to keep it from sliding around on surfaces and the grip is slippery now. Brilliant. 😅
If you have to use framskip then I would not call that a system that can run good. I was super disappoint in my 35XXH. Nothing over ps1 runs great and even when you use enhanced resolution for ps1 it starts to have hiccups. This thing is really overrated IMO.
I tried to be clear at the start of the performance section of the video that PS1 and GBA are the real limits of this device. And that being able to play some other things like NDS and N64 are bonuses but I would not buy this device for those. I understand what you are saying about frameskip and using the term good and great while not contextualizing those words by repeating what I said in the beginning could be more confusing then helpful. Thanks for the feedback on that. I still think the device is a good deal for the price, even more so if you can get it on sale around 50$.
Anbernic has started to remove some games from their stock SD cards. This includes things like Mario and Pokemon. You will want to source these yourself.

Thinking about picking one of these up just for the analogs, even though my nostalgia always pulls me to the vertical handhelds.. kinda waiting to see what anbernics response is to the miyoo mini flip.
Thanks! Those are great games you have been playing some of my favorites. Some images have "leaked" for the Anbernic RG35XX SP that you can look up, which is going to be the response to the Miyoo Mini flip.
the idea behind the clipshield is solid, but the designs from that particular etsy store are flawed; they have a hollow print structure and are prone to splitting along the print grain at stress points. i've also found them to be slightly too big for the device, but that's easily fixed with some craft felt or whatever material one has on hand.
Thanks for the information. I have had mine for the 405m for about 5 months and I'm lucky to not have any issues with the stress points yet. Any recommendations for other designs or sellers of something similar?
@@PhyrexTechs, i've not had any issues with parttimeCAD's designs, but he doesn't design for as many handhelds as epicprinting seems to.
@@thomaschipman Yeah, he does good work. I got my MM+ Gripcase from parttimeCAD and love it. I checked his store first and saw that he had a clam shell case for the 35XXH but not a clipcase. I thought 13$ was cheap enough to risk it and test it out, but I do look forward to some better options after what you have said. Thanks again for sharing.
@@PhyrexTechs ohh i didnt even think about that, thanks for the reply!
Hi guys.
Have you found the buttons fail, only when in the menu? It's very common, at least for me.
I can’t decide between this or the RG35XX Plus.
I already own PSP and Vita so the horizontal factor I have down and I want the vertical but this video makes the H look so cooool. HELP!
Yeah, It's hard to choose. It mainly comes down do to which form factor you want and if you want the analog sticks.
can we download/import games into our rg35xx h by using OTG Card Reader and Phone only? since i dont have a laptop
I have 2 RG35XX Hs, because ambernic say they connect with each other and you can play 2 player. This function doesn't work well
I have not tried netplay with these devices yet myself. However, when I have tried it before with other handheld it is kinda a hassle to get it to work and finicky once you do. I hope this is something that can be improved for all handhelds.
6:56 man got some KI skillz
lol Thanks. I'm not great, I just remember some combos.
Have you tried flashing the console? Is there a dead zone on other firmware?
This is the case on all CFW I have tested. Seems to be something with hardware as someone commented that they replaced the analog sticks with hall effect ones and that fixed the issue. I have not done this yet myself so I can't confirm it.
@@PhyrexTechs It turns out that cheap sticks are used. Is there any information that the company will fix this in new batches or do you just need to resolder it yourself?
As far as I know Anbernic has made no statements on it. Also no soldering is needed to replace the analogs as they are connected by ribbon cables. However, it does require a tear down of the device.
For a similar form factor and around the same money, I think the RGB30 is a better buy.
Yeah, I can see that. ArkOS is solid, especially if you're already familiar with it.
Yeah, I would definitely get a name brand SD card and a SD card reader if you don't have one. That is mainly all you need to start.
Who better ? Smart pro vs rg35xxx h?
Not sure about that one as I have not had the chance to use the Smart Pro. Maybe someone who has used both might be able to share their thoughts on it.
Hey how do you save and load states for NDS? It never seems to save my state cause when i load it i got to start my games all over.
If you hit the Menu button on the top you will be taken to the drastic menu. From there you should be able to select save or load state. You can use left and right to change which state you are saving or loading.
@@PhyrexTechs I click save state and nothing happens
Were is a good place to get n64 roms for this. Just got one and thought n64 games were in it but there not 😢
Apologies for asking, but is there a link to the intrinsic, stock games?
Hey, no problem with asking. I have a video that goes over how to update the Stock software and one of the options Anbernic has on their site comes with all the stock games. ruclips.net/video/PKbGJ9WSaf0/видео.html
Be aware people have been having issues with the download quota and that is something that Anbernic will have to fix or you can try some of the things I posted in the pinned comment on that video.
@@PhyrexTechsThanks again, by the way, incredible video's. Well explained, great delivery; you are the best!
@@jimmyjohnson8417 Thank you! That means a lot to me to hear that.
@@PhyrexTechs Most welcome! Keep these great vids coming!
Does it play Castlevania Symphony of the night? Also, can you connect Bluetooth headphones?
Yeah, Castlevania SotN runs great.
While you can connect Bluetooth headphones, the audio delay is just too much for me. It would really need aptX low latency for the delay to be acceptable for me.
Is there a way to lock the fast forward speed so you dont have to keep holiding it?
Which game system are you playing? Most of them should be able to toggle fast forward, holding the menu button on the top then hitting R2.
@@PhyrexTechs I mainly play gba and gbc for Pokemon, I know theres a way but this is my first day using this incredible handheld
can i connect fighting stick in that?
Anyone tried the psp game GTA vice city stories on this handheld? I've heard that it runs but can't find much more info than that.
I only played the first 15-20 minutes but it is playable with some slowdowns. You can put frame skip to 1 or auto and it takes care of most of the slowdowns.
did you try any PS2 games on it? wondering how FFX would perform on this
And would a 256gb sand disc work fine along side the same make SD card just a 64gb
Yeah that should work fine.
@@PhyrexTechs thank you for the help and great videos
It's so close to being the perfect pocketable handheld for me, I was hoping to find a device that can handle all PS1, DC, N64 and PSP games in a small form factor that still has comfortable ergonomics and viewing screen and this one nearly checks all the marks for a fantastic price. I guess I'm better off waiting for one more generation of SOC improvements. For the record, I own a Steam Deck and it's an amazing device, but I've been in the market for a very small handheld that is much more portable than a Deck.
Yeah, We are getting close to having PS2/GC on quality pocket devices. I'm looking forward to that
I seen another person running God of War pretty smoothly, wonder if they were using some different settings.
Interesting. I would be curious what settings they were using. If you ever find out let me know.
Have you found a fix to this thumbstick issue?
Not yet, someone stated in these comments, Anbernic said they are looking into it.
I would like to install games from Commodore64, is it possible? and how?
Stock firmware does not have it setup. However, I just tested it on MuOS and Batocera. MuOS works right away while on Batocera you will have to set the core to Vice and it will work.
Thanks for the information@@PhyrexTechs
Whats better rg35h or rg40h or rg35 SP. I can’t decide…
Well performance in the same on all of them. It really comes down to which form factor you want. I enjoy the SP because I love the clam shell. I can just throw it in my pocket without messing with a case. But if you are mostly going to use it around the house then that might not be important to you.
@@PhyrexTechs thanks! Are joysticks important for many retro games?
Nothing about size comparison?
Good catch. I completely spaced out on that. Here is a couple of comparison pictures with dimensions listed below: imgur.com/a/WjNvJVq
Urgh ive been binging these video reviews. Couldnt decide still which color to get
That is always a tough decision.
@@PhyrexTechs I understood, thanks very much for your report
Am I going crazy or is there interlace artifacts in this video?
You are not crazy. That was my fault, when I rendered it I made a mistake.
How much is the device and where can I find one?
The price widely varies on which store you go to. I have seen people say they got it under 50$ on Tictok, or Temu stores. Those stores can always be somewhat of a gamble, so if you want to get them from a more reputable store like the Anbernic website or Amazon it can be 70-90$

I wish they made a version with 4 inch display.
Yeah, that would be nice. The RGB30 had a 4in 1:1 screen that looks really good.
What size hdmi does it use?
Mini HDMI (Type-C)
What good to buy rg35xx plus or rg35xx h?
They are the same performance wise and it really comes down to if you would want the horizontal layout with analog sticks or the vertical Gameboy feel.
Okay thanks
are there street fighter and metal slug games there? 😮
Yes even on the stock sf cards
Can it run 3ds games? Like in their 2D form?
It is not powerful enough for 3ds games. I still think the best option for 3DS is to find a used 2DS/2DS XL and then use the H shop to get all your games.
I bought rg351p with 3:2 aspect ratio, gba games play great, but anything below or above cripples my eyes. I found tht nds and ps1 games somehow okayish, but retrogames are not enjoyable
Does anyone knows what Pokemon games can you play on this device?
All these below
GB : Red/Green/Blue, Yellow
GBC: Gold/Silver, Crystal
GBA: Ruby/Sapphire, FireRed/LeafGreen, Emerald
DS: Diamond/Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black/White, Black2/White2
This is also not including all of the great ROM hacks like Unbound and hundreds of others for these systems.
Bought 1 can this Handel ps2 games?
Sadly it is not powerful enough for PS2 games.
@@PhyrexTechs *cries*
Mine didn't come with 64 games. Stocked
Yeah, they do not include as N64 games with the stock SD card.
Bummer that swapping out the sticks didn't work any better for you (saw your comment on reddit). The inconsistent reports on that are kind of frustrating.
Thanks, I'm about to release a video with my findings to hopefully clear up some of the misinformation out there.
Does it run psp games well?
That is going to depend on the game. Some will be unplayable and some will be playable with some random slow downs. If your main focus is on PSP I would maybe look for a different device as the 4:3 screen is not the best for it.
@@PhyrexTechs ah okay, thanks! I ordered one a couple days ago and I’ve just been trying to figure out some of its capabilities; the psp emulation intrigued me a bit but i am excited to try everything out nonetheless
does it play 3DS??
It cannot play 3DS. The best way to play 3DS is a hacked 2DS/3DS system with the H Store.
This is an alternative H case that has allows for more grip on the console for comfort: ruclips.net/video/mMmxBpifvBg/видео.htmlsi=zzxkK4gieSdx3kEt
Thanks for sharing! I had not seen that one before.
This or Rgb30 ?
That is a tough one, as you can see with some of the comment threads people have different opinions on this. The RGB30 has the better screen and the options of OS's have been around for while and are fleshed out (JelOS and ArkOS)
The 35XXh has the better overall build quality and people always talk about finding crazy deals for it below $50.
Brilliant. 😅
Lol. Well when the shell is on the front the pads still work against sliding around.
Has anyone casted it to a tv screen?!
I have used the HDMI cable to connect it to the TV and that does work.
Like for talking about the horrible sticks, everyone else loves wasting time with irrelevant shit and don't test what matters
I have 2 modded Sony Vitas, 2 modded Nintendo 3DS's, 2 modded PSP's a modded DSi and DSi XL. WHY AM I HERE!!!???
Lol, were is the support group for us?
@PhyrexTechs LOL right!
Brah, I just ordered a RG35XX H off ebay yesterday lol. The day before that I got a Game Boy Color in a trade. I NEED HELP!
I think we are beyond saving... too far gone...
Almost great device with a terrible cpu that can't even run PSP games properly.
Yeah it's a pretty good horizontal option for more retro games if you get a good deal on the price. Not great for PSP or N64 for sure.
No Pokémon on it
Anbernic has started to remove some games from their stock SD cards. This includes things like Mario and Pokemon. You will want to source these yourself.
how large is the console compared to other ones?
I forgot to add that to the video, but I took some pictures to compare.
