F90 M5 Testing the Hidden Menu Dyno Mode

- After our last video where we dyno tested our F90 M5 on our Dyno Dynamics dyno a few people told us of a hidden menu chassis dyno mode, and that it increases the power output.
So we put the F90 M5 back on the dyno to test that theory out!
This hidden menu should be applicable for the G30 5 Series, and possibly other G Series cars.

Forget the M5, this guy's glasses are the star of the show!!
The M5 is looking sickkk!!
Other than the two small visual changes we made it currently is yes. That will change soon enough 😏
700whp in coming :D
who knew this mode existed?
and how does someone find out?
Lots of research, combing through technical literature that BMW has made, trying different things out. It's a similar process to the one for the F56 Mini, which does actually need it enabled.
A fully blacked out M5 would have looked absolutely amazing
Love your vids! Been watching for a while, would you please make a tune for my 19 M550i xDrive?? You can use my car as test car:)
There is no putting it in dyno mode by mistake is there?!! Basically it makes no difference, so might as well dyno in "standard". I'm not really buying the whole 670hp thing with these cars even at sea level on a cold day. Thanks for the video Imran.
You could potentially accidentally enter the diagnostics mode by pressing the start button, but I doubt you'd be able to accidentally enter the menu itself! On our dyno at least the mode made no difference, it might be useful on a dyno where the car will not do a full run in just the DSC off mode. We will be taking our car to a Dynojet dyno at some point, to see what figures it makes on one of those, as that's where these higher power claims have come from.
Evolve Automotive that will be very interesting. Is your dyno more in line with a Mustang dyno? I’ve heard those read on the low side.
@@stubones yes very much so in like with Mustang
That told them.....🤣🤣🤣
If only it was that easy to make more power!
Exactly haha. Do you think it changes any settings on suspension and gearbox for the rollers n straps maybe?
I imagine all it's doing is further ignoring things like wheel speed, especially comparing front and rear axle, where on some dyno's even with DSC off it will get unhappy and limit power etc. On our Dyno Dynamics at least it appears to not need this as it made no difference.
Evolve Automotive that’s for the response 🤘🏻
I wonder what the original intended purpose was for? Why would engineers put a feature intro production that serves no use? Thinking about it out loud, I can't imagine the need for a dyno mode at all, unless it was to artificially inflate HP numbers.
The only theory we have is for some dyno's where just DSC off will not allow the car to do a full run.
@@EvolveAutomotive ah that makes sense
Is this car loud in person? On the dyno i am always surprised that the dyno sounds louder than the car exhaust itself.
With the OEM Sports exhaust it has a little noise but it's not loud. Tyres on the dyno are very loud, especially in 4WD, along with the fan.
I see, thanks for the explanation. Do you find any new cars ///M wise sound good standard with turbos taking over the market? E.g. roll back time to E60 M5 days, I imagine I probably wouldn't have posted my original comment.
Is this 615 number BHP or wheel HP ?
Calculated crank
Is this in WHP or BHP?
BHP
I've seen numbers from your 615 BHP all the way to IND's 625 WHP(!!) with basically everything in between so it looks like no one actually knows how much power a stock M5 produces other than the fact that's it's always more than claimed...
625whp seems very very optimistic. It would equate to around 750 crank hp and that's never going to happen. I think realisitically the majority of the cars should produce a real world +-640bhp.
100% agreed, around 640 bhp seems reasonable. It also means you have to take any dyno numbers with a grain of salt
Dyno's are only useful to compare different modifications back to back. Not to provide you with an absolute power figure. They are good tool for comparisons. Nothing more.
❤М5❤F90❤😍🤗🤝👍👌
What about RWD mode ?
Our dyno did not allow us to run it in RWD but we did vbox test it in AWD vs RWD and it was slower in RWD inline with two other tuners tests we have seen.
Evolve Automotive 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Leave it to BMW to make a “dyno mode”. German engineering hahaha. Can’t leave well enough alone.
Mercedes have been putting in dyno mode for a while now.
Dyno mode is what Bmw uses for testing
