Can this one change make our F90 M5 a 9 second car?

- As we start to take drag racing more seriously, we have started to look at other areas where we can optimise our cars for maximum performance. One of these is one that is often overlooked, even by ourselves - Wheel Alignment!
We headed to Center Gravity to speak to the suspension guru's, get the car on their equipment and have them do a bespoke alignment designed to give the car maximum grip from a launch, something we definitely need!
Has this one simple change made all the difference?

This guy is wasted on wheel alignment. Top notch technician. We need more of him.
Pete is the man 👍
I have never seen a man like this gentleman explain wheel alignment literally perfectly. He took his time, didn't faff about on useless dribble. Top man.
Glad we can put out useful content like this. Also the guy really knows what is doing and talking about.
Really interesting, totally different setup to the rear end of my M3 👌
Would you ever tune your M3?
Yeah 1/2/3/4 share similar suspension and then the 5/7/8 are a different design.
Look forward to trying a setup on our M2 that’s for sure!
Interested to hear your thoughts on a similar setup you had done on your G80 too ✌🏻
@@EvolveAutomotive sorry meant different alignment, you've gone for traction off the line, I've gone for corner grip 😉
@@harshadpillay4806 I wouldn't touch the ECU because of warranty issues, but hopefully get an Eventuri and Remus soon 😉👊
@@JoeAchilles1 Makes sense LOL.
Geometry setup is overlooked by so many people and can make a huge difference to a car rather than throwing parts at it!
100%, especially after having a lot of parts fitted, a good alignment can be key.
Great to see someone that really understands suspension set up...
Who would have thought a non-technician like myself would watch an 18 minute video about car suspension set-up and enjoy it so much.
Learnt so much from this technician, need to remember to not annoy the wheel alignment technician when I next have my cars alignment verified...
Man I love listening to suspension professionals; lots of respect for that level of mastery over such a complex topic.
That guy loves his job 👍🏻
this man is a legend
So great to see Pete and Center of Gravity showcased here. They installed KW’s on my 6 series, and are always so knowledgeable and help to explain everything. Chris is the other gentleman that works there and is also fantastic, as well as Holly. Highly recommend!!
This dude smashed it. I want my alignment done here!!
I want my alignment done there too.
I'm gonna need a boat.. 🤔
Imagine a world where every person who who works on your car does it on 100% and he is honest.
We like to work with people who have similar work ethics to our own 🙌🏻
Wow, that was very in depth video and the guy really knows what he is doing. Glad it has made an improvement to the car. Looking forward to some content coming before the built engine goes back in. 😊👏🙌
This was fascinating. These guys aren't that far from me, next time I get my alignment done I'm taking it there.
Awesome video, great to see the though processes behind your specific setup.
So many learnings to be taken from this video! Amazing content! Thank you!
One of my favourite vids recently Imran. Keep them coming 👌
thanks imran this man have explained everything and every question I have thanks man..
Really interesting to see the chap going into so much detail.
Good luck on the strip.
Very interesting learnt quite a lot watching this keep it up 👍
Excellent explanation. What a great video to post. Definitely up with the rod bearing explanation video and RK's engine build.
Great video. Cant believe i just watched the whole 18 min about wheel alignment haha but it was a pleasure!
Just did alingment for my m2c
Wow back to school...this man is a total genius, explanations totally make sense
Love craftsman with a great knowledge of there work 💪👍 2 cool car guys😎
Refreshingly informative & enlightening.. thanks 2 u both,..🏁
Fantastic & informative! This tech gets two thumbs up!
Great video thanks for not dragging out the results till another a video 🏆
Brilliant detail. Chap certainly knew his stuff, and proper old school belt and braces approach and not blindly trusting the computer. Here come sub 10s
Evolve videos always educational!
Brilliant listening to the bloke regarding the suspension
Something so obvious yet always overlooked. Great video 👍
Nice, very interesting indeed! Shows you power is nothing without control as they say!
Awesome car & great video . Big thumbs up to Chris & Pete at centre gravity. Have used them on various cars over the years. Simply perfectionists. Will be using Evolve for the first time next month to have mss adjustable lowering springs fitted to my m5 competition & then a few weeks later down to centre gravity 😊
Very informative!
This was really informative. Just show how important a good alignment is.
Get this engineer a job at Evolve 👏👏
Extremely interesting info!
Really informative video, thanks for sharing. Wish there was an alignment garage of this quality near me in Cheshire.
There is... Suspension secrets
@@jonathanblease244 wow, they’re down the road from me and I’d never heard of them. Will check them out, thanks for the tip off 👍🏼
The alignment expert was so knowledgeable.. loved it
This bloke going to be booked up for a good while, nice work 👍🏼
Already booked well up! We had this booked for a while. Well worth it 🙌🏻
Nice one, learned something new, thanks! :))
Yessss. Was hoping someday i would see a quarter mile time in the 9s on this car. Hope it does well at Santa Pod.
This bloke is proper boffin, even though its complicated he makes so much sense! Want him to set up my E60! 😄
What a knowledgeable gentleman the suspension guy was , suspension wizard.
Great video.. again
What a great informative video, definitely paying centre of gravity a visit. 9s InshaAllah!!!
Nice video bro and great
My favorite M5. Tastefully modified. Nice.
Who else was expecting to see it on the drag strip. Lol great content as always. Very interesting.
Love to listen to people this knowledgeable speak. 🙌🏾👍🏾
Pete is hugely knowledgeable and a great guy to talk to.
This is a professional into is top level, a few adjustments to the alignment and the results could make a big difference. If you want a record that's the way to go, every aspect is important.
This suspension guy knows his stuff 👍🏻
Awesome 👏
Wow great video…
8 minutes in this guy knows his shit! Great video
I think you should have set it up with the 20 wheels , but very interesting this alignment and improvement
Can you imagine the smile Pete had when he took that monster for an evaluation drive.... jokes aside love the explanation and the fact that there are results.
Hopefully we can come along for the driving section with the M2, Covid dependant 🤞🏻
Great video, it will be interesting to see how this effects the 100 to 200 and top speed as you now have toe in front and rear. More grip but also a bit more drag?
Yes this setup is purely for 1/4 mile, it may hurt a Standing Mile speed where the advantage of a good launch is outweighed by additional drag from the tyres.
Love it
Hmm interesting stuff... Chasing tenths even hundredths now, I can see a 9.7 coming on the sticky stuff👍
Let’s see what we can do when we go back to Santa Pod! It’s a ‘tough’ track by US standards we’ve been told and it’s definitely uphill so we’re hoping we can get that 9 on the big number boards.
Ok, great job guys, this will be a further improvement
You should focus on all the towing points in the car to provide a better level 👍
More F90 content please!
Interesting bro
Do you know anywhere close to your Luton/Bedfordshire branch that offers a similar service?
All the wheel alignment places I go to just to just have a one size fits all approach
We don’t, but we believe a service like this is worth travelling to.
Any recent updates on the M5?
Is this new setup is simatrical left and right ?
Is that the end of mods for this car? Did u take the f90 ever make it to the track to run 9s?
Looking forward to seeing the improvements at Pod
Come on 9s 🤞🏻
@@EvolveAutomotive genuinely impressed so far a sweet nine second pass would be the icing on the cake before the implant
Very interesting, do you think changing the tire's to the 20' setup will affect the alignment setup that was done?
It will not affect the alignment itself as none of the alignment points will change.
@@EvolveAutomotive thanks for the reply ! Very excited !
Surely it will if the overall wheel height and width (I.e including the tyre) changes?
@@phillynarrowstraight possibly very marginally, but the hub is fixed and that is what 'decides' the alignment. A wheel with a lower offset would just push the measurement point (where the equipment goes) further away from the pivot point (the hub)
@@EvolveAutomotive It'd be interesting to see what difference it does make, i.e. doing runs on both sets of wheels even if its just to quantify the difference in wheel weight etc.
Brilliant video very intresting now some santa pod vids please 👍😀
Hope to be back there in the coming weeks 🙌🏻
Tyres are the only point of contact with the tarmac, yet you're right, checking the contact patch is right for your use (e.g. alignment) is forgotten by many.
Type or tyre is considered but often alignment is not! Now we’re taking full advantage of the excellent PS4S and can’t wait to see what the R888R is like.
Im back Imran sir how are you ?
That m5 sits so much better now looks leads better 😍
Would changing to the lightweights not alter their work? As he said. Factor in wheel and tyre choice. Maybe set it up on the lightweight 20s
Pete knows we have multiple sets of wheels and didn’t mention it so I guess not. The alignment settings themselves would not change with a wheel change.
Tactical approach
This is the guy you want to track your car 👌
Was this filmed prior to the fully built engine Imran or have you swapped it back?
Swapped back whilst we upgraded the engine further with sleeved cylinders and studded block
@@EvolveAutomotive Cool, it'll make for some good comparison videos of the stage 2 car vs the fully built car. Look forward to them.
higher G's on launch....higher pressure on gearbox and shafts hehe. Goodluck buddy! will be waiting for the Santa Pod videos!
We’re pushing the boundaries so we have all the knowledge to advise customers!
@@EvolveAutomotive i know you do was just wondering if they are still stock or had them uprated
Stock drivetrain, only modifications are Catless Downpipes, eventuri intakes and RK methanol injection
@@EvolveAutomotive good luck with the sub 10s at Santa Pod! 👍🏻👊🏻
Why are you driving with such straight arms? Isn't optimum driving position supposed to be slightly bent arms so you can exert more force?
Going to 19 or 20inch wheels would probably help a lot.
Haven’t seen any difference in our testing
When your mother-in-law thinks your job is not important. Ledgend.
Launch harder couldn’t be more apt. Harder always better
Why did he stop? I was mesmerised!!
That’s all you get for free 😜 Book in and you can ask Pete all the questions you want!
Is he any good at 911’s?
Porsche is their specialty!
@@EvolveAutomotive see you there next week with your M2!
🔥🔥🔥
Is the M2 getting JRZ suspension like the M5? I plan on getting JRZ RS Pro for my M2.
No, it is getting a prototype MSS coilover.
@@EvolveAutomotive Nice. Looking forward to see what MSS puts out. I’ll probably still get the JRZ but still interested in seeing MSS’s product.
@@usernamealreadytaken770 We have tested the MSS Coilover on the Golf MK8 GTI and its amazing.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🚀🚀
How big of a difference on the 60fts were there?
From memory about .2s
@@EvolveAutomotive that’s a massive difference. I might have to look into this myself.
Try tune the new M4 or an M8 competition. Those can dominate all if, you spent at least 10k or maybe more, just to overnight parts from Germany😂
Nah but actually though. It’s worth a shot
M8C would be fundamentally the same as this.
As for G82 M4, wait until the end of the year when ours arrives 🤫
Haha Jesse!
Put on drag radial or slicks
That changes the game. This is a full weight road car, with road tyres.
My M550d also follows the road crown Allways have to steer against it I went to get it aligned at 4 different places , at the dealer and at three other car is same... oh and i told the dealer to put in the weights they say they dont do that way 😂
Finding a good alignment place isn’t always the easiest! Unfortunately they don’t give the technicians the training they need to correctly carry out the job.
@@EvolveAutomotive This guy Looks Like he knows whats up... I went Bmw Dealer in Germany , then In Hungary they didnt even heard off putting weight to the trunk , then i showed them In Newtis How the dealer describes to put X Amount of weight in trunk , on driver seat passanger and full tank off fuel etc .. they said sorry we dont do like this
👍
That dragy is with a -0.97% downhill slope@9.98 in reality that’s a 10.0-10.2 time corrected. Only chance is on the track with being more sticky than a street run it may just pull it off.
Personally we are unsure of the validity of a calculated correction, we haven't done proper testing but anecdotally it is always over correcting compared to what we see in the real world.
Regardless, it is why we compared to similar slope times. The car ran a 10.06 at Santa Pod with the previous setup.
@@EvolveAutomotive ya it doesn’t really add up seeing that Santa pod is actually uphill. Do you mean dragy is always showing it more downhill than jt really is?
From what I know dragy is very accurate in its gps measuring of both time and slopes, always when I use it if it’s uphill/downhill I can already notice it was right before checking it on the graph.
No I’m saying calculated times aren’t accurate in our opinion. They can give you some form of idea but would never take them as valid.
@@EvolveAutomotive I beleive the Zeitenjagd app designed specially for 100-200 runs are very accurate calculations, there is just no such app that does the same thing for 1/4 mile runs so there’s no way to really know.
What I’m saying is without needing any type of correction app it’s as simple as looking at it. 9.98@-0.97 it’s a large downhill barely under 10.0, easy to see without any correction app that it’s not a 9 second pass but 10.0+.
Hopefully a better launch from a stickier surface than a street launch will get it there.
Bloody hell how many bags did they put in? Too many samosas!
LOL I'm kidding, I'm kidding Imran!😂
They’re 20kg each! 😅
@@EvolveAutomotive Lol! Looks like they did a decent job, still looks spot on.
I’m not sure many accountants doubt their calculators. They’ll doubt themselves before they’ll doubt a calculator. But I get the point.
It’s a figure of speech.
Ahhh, the secret to keep beating Matt from carwow 😅
He’s usually driving!
will you be upgrading this car to 1000hp? If so, once you are finished, I'd really like to see another drag race in the Carwow channel
Yes after the next event the plan is to go to the new sleeved/studded forged engine and see how far we can push the car. We delayed it as we really want this 9s Santa Pod pass on stock engine/turbo!
@@EvolveAutomotive what fuel are you running it in to get the 9s pass?
@@av8743 Shell V Power 99, straight out of the pump here in the UK.
@@EvolveAutomotive ok so that’s like US 94 octane plus also meth injection which helps a bit too ?
Name of this shop..?🙏🙏🙏
Evolve Automotive - It’s literally our channel name!
@@EvolveAutomotive 😂😂😂😂
So you guys work together yet you acted as if though you've visited another shop..?
Oh the place we visited my mistake, Center Gravity
@@EvolveAutomotive Thank you sir!
Wow 9.96 seconds is a McLaren 765LT or Ferrari sf90 wow so fast…
9.98s is of course a really good time but don't forget to correct the time with the -0.97% slope. That will make it a corrected time of 10.333s
Exactly what app are you using to correct the time? I know for 100-200 there is the Zeitenjagd app but haven’t found one that is designed for 1/4 mile time corrections. It appears you used this app to correct for that which is wrong because it’s only meant for 100-200 specifically.
@@av8743 good point my bad! I've corrected 100-200 😵
But still if there's a slope of like minus something the corrected time is a bit slower than 9.98s 😆
I guess this is not your normal £25 wheel alignment. I guess it might be in the hundreds.
Long gone are the days of a £25 alignment! Even a basic one you’re looking around £100 depending on adjustments needed.
Not in Birmingham you can get it done between £25 to £50 depending on the car and how well you know the garage owner.
Okay
