Taking our F90 M5 to the 1/4 Mile Drag Strip - BMW Show 2018

- With the run-in service complete just 2 days before BMW Show 2018, it was time to see what BMW's latest super saloon could do straight out of the box. This will give us a baseline to refer back to as we start modifying the car.
We expected it do well thanks to its 4WD system, the main problem with the F10 M5 was getting grip, so Imran's job was certainly easier than before, but our F80 M3 Vyper was running too and that provided a little challenge for launching.
We also took our M2 GTS Starla along, but more to display. With all the aero it wouldn't post a competitive time, plus driving two cars at once is a bit of a challenge, let alone a third!

I f*cking love the M5. The best car in the world.
On the m5 f90 launch control doesn't activate the car has to get over a certain amount of miles for it to be active because BMW doesn't want the car to be abused brand new.
This reminds me of why I love bmw, the good, the bad and the badass🔥🔥🔥

The car is back to its original Mineral Grey now.
Launch control on this M5
put the gearbox in manual,
shift the gear to 1,
set the gear change ratio to max (fastest shift),
put the esc off, (press once you’ll see the sign on the screen) press again and hold it till the dash says DSC Inactive.
have the foot pressing the brake paddle and tap the accelerator once so that you see the sign on dash saying launch control active with that flag sign then press accelerator to set the revs to launch. This should work.
This is in case when the launch control in normal procedure is not being activated.

@@EvolveAutomotive thx! Stage two Cobb (I know, not the best) with the downpipe and added exhaust. Hit 12.889 at the Track in Sacramento, CA (sacramento raceway wed night drag) 60ft still needs work because I am NOT that consistent in my launches which can either make or break my runs.

I love how with M xDrive, you don't even need to bother using Launch Control, it has so much traction.
Yeah has so much traction. I think LC would have improved that time a little.
The car is capable of 3.1s to 60 so your car can go quicker :)
LC takes ADVANTAGE of the 4WD though :)
How reliable are those cars especially with jus a ecu tune? Did bmw work out most of the kinks from the 4.4l
Incredibly reliable with our tune, have hundreds of customers running it
@@EvolveAutomotive do you guys offer tune for 2020+ models and can it be done with a flash tool or I'd have to send in the ecu
If your ECU is locked it needs to be sent away to be unlocked, we can then tune remotely.
Make the M5 a little project more in depth follow everything up and your subs will blow up

Sorry bad grammar my house mates m3 runs 10.7 with full exhaust intakes tune and e85, his brothers m5 did 10.8 stock and now has down pipes intake tune and methanol injection should do a 9.xx it went 10.1 without meth

Jack O tune only , but now it’s got tune down pipes and 100 octane and water meth should go 9s
@@TURBOTRISTO I have seen many M4s on RUclips running mid 11s with a tune, never 10.7 with a tune only.

No it wouldn't activate. Maybe needs more miles on it.
Don't you have to take it to BMW to get Launch Control activated? Something to do with the run in period something?
That's been done. Will try using LC again soon
I remember both my M4s activating L/C around 100 miles or so after their 1200 mile service. They just seemed to switch on themselves, which was a bit weird ?. I couldnt get it to activate straight away, but kept checking, and there it was. Never actually used it, but im sure the M5 L/C will be awesome, with the X Drive.
Charlotte Hutchinson hadn't done an extra 100 miles so maybe that's what prevented it from working . Will try again soon.
You can’t launch control before the break in period.
We had completed the run in service, but it seems the car wasn't quite ready to let us use launch control, shame as we probably would have cut a few tenths off our time.

Tell your editor to stop instantly cutting away as soon as the time flashes on the boards. We only get enough time to see the time and not the speed. Which is annoying as hell.

It was pretty much brand new at the time, Santa Pod put a huge amount of investment in replacing their entire strip with a new concrete one.
Wow really slow, especially when malaka motorsports stock rs3 with full interior and hybrid turbo does quarter mile in 9.8
It's a 2 tonne luxury saloon which is also stock in this video but great comparison. You'll go far with your excellent thinking
