Chasing 9s in our Stage 2 + Meth Injection F90 M5

- 2 years ago we took our F90 M5 to Santa Pod, and with the car back to Stage 2+ setup we were interested to see what the car would now do on a proper drag strip.
Compared to our friends in the US the drag strip is a relatively unfamiliar battle ground for us, but an important performance metric and good fun!

How come the built motor has been taken out? ive gone back through the videos but cant see anything. Unless im not looking properly again lol
Because the season was over, RK had been pushing theirs further and found evidence of headlift at higher boost so decided to pull it out, sleeve and stud the block so we can take it to even higher power.

Check your transmission harness (with car going into neutral) , it’s running close to the Downpipes. Mine got burnt, BMW service routes it differently now. There has been a recall.
Interesting! We have a few things to check but it performed flawlessly all day so a bit of a strange one.
In a way issues like these are what our project cars are for, to learn and gain knowledge that means we are equipped to help customers if they have similar.

That M5 is rapid I kept feeling like it was getting faster and faster very surprised it kept running a 10.40 but it’s fast regardless and to keep running the same time over and over again shows it mapped right. Looking forward to seeing you what the built motor can do. Great video as always bro 😎

BMW doin't exactly encourage tuning. In the LCI versions of the M5 they have locked the ECU.

The car has a lot of potential even with stock engine it could really fly if it wasn't the launch control at this level you have to find a solution. Same thing happened with the RS3 I know it's not easy but that is going to be a fundamental issue that has to be fixed, for getting those times. Anyway very good work, I'll be waiting for the new moods.

Started to wonder what was happening with this beauty, that is just as fast as a McLaren 765 LT, this evolve automotive M5 V8 is really fast I think it does 9.8 on a 1/4 mile, and I hadn’t seen it on the channel that much lately…

10.1 was unprepped surface with someone else driving with no launch control. Built engine went back to RK so they could sleeve/stud the block, will be back in next month.

Man there's something about Donington Grey that hits different than the other colours. That champagne colour suits this car so well. Its got a certain elegance and presence to it. One day one day 🤞🏼

Imran, on the first run, what you do is when it goes yellow to green count the amount of time in your head, on second run try to anticipate when it turns green to dial yourself in for the launch and third run and so on, you should be dialed in when the light just turns green... it will shave of some tenths so long as your launches are perfect... other wise good job.
Would only change reaction time not overall ET which is what we’re interested in.
At these events you can sit on the line for as long as you want, it’s not until you leave the staging beam does the timer start.
@@EvolveAutomotive I was thinking that, your response when watching the video... but you kept on referencing Santa Pods timing, so i wasn't sure whos timing machine you was going by... however, man its hard to hook up the car on sticky surfaces...
99% sure on these days they run it without RT being factored in as it’s not competitive.

Hi imran, best one👍 I think if the tyre were proper i-e cup 2; may be you could have done in straight 10sec.
We chose to use PS4S over R888R (as we have both on two sets of wheels) due to ambient temperature and inability to heat up tyres before the run. PS4S have excellent ‘cold’ grip.

Yes block is complete just needs to be built back up and installed. Will do a video discussing the changes.

Do you think taking any of the negative camber out of the rear end would help in straight line traction?
Yes we think so and have done exactly that
what happened to your RK built motor f90? havent seen that thing in a while.
As the season was over we took it out to sleeve the block and push for even more power this year.
We picked up a spare engine to revisit Stage 2 tuning whilst that was in process, and get more performance data with updated methanol setup.
RK sleeved block is back ready to be installed back in the car in the coming weeks.

I’m currently Evolve stage 2 f90.
I’d like to add meth kit. I’ve heard two good choices are snow performance and BMS. I’m considering BMS only because of JB4 integration. Curious what the alternative is when using different meth kit that does t pair with JB4. Would there need to be an adjustment to my original evolve tune?

My best time on my stage one f90 is 10.6 on slight uphill. The launch so temperamental on these cars. Sometimes great other times get rubbish launch. Like a roll of the dice each time

Why do you go into water box? And you need to let the turbos spool a bit more. When you launch give it about 2 -3 sec to build the boost. And i would go around the water box

What’s the D/a and elevation?
Unfortunately we figured out that a phone with no data connection does not have this info!
Imran uses an android phone but we have an iPhone for dragy as it’s so much more reliable. It has no sim though. We’ll make sure it does for the next event so that the data is recorded.

Wtf is wrong with UK drag strips where a modern 4 wheel drive car goes sideways? But in america people are putting down 100% of the power on 1000+hp rear wheel drive muscle cars on the STREET. We really need to step up our game this is getting embarrassing.
It's supposed to be a prepped surface, with high grip. It's caused many a diff to blow up, I've done many RWYBs and not found it slippy
From what we could tell only the left lane was a prep’d surface.
@@EvolveAutomotive I know its not a driver issue, its entirely a track issue. I've seen very well set up cars still do bad times because they rush people at santa pod without prepping correctly. Its also really dangerous. They don't care about peoples times they just care about having as much people being able to run on the strip in a single day.
I think the issue is the tires. My E63 with MPS4S could cut 1.5-1.6 60’ on street. At the strip on a prepped surface I was 1.8-1.9. I think it holds true you need a drag tire at a drag strip regardless if AWD or RWD. On my 2021 M5 I’m running MPS4S on street and will try 18” MT on strip. The issue is the front can’t fit 18” only the rear. So might have to run R888R up front and Mickeys in rear

We put a stock engine in to carry on Stage 2 development. Will be Stage 3 again next month.

Technically a forged engine doesn't increase power, just increases the limits it could take. As said in the video it is stock engine and turbos.
