Our F90 M5 gets an Evolve Stage 2 ECU Tune

- After putting a few thousand miles on our F90 M5, and having Supersprint develop a full exhaust, it was time for us to start tuning the car. Since the car has catless downpipes, Stage 2 was the obvious choice to unleash the full potential of the stock engine hardware.
In this video we compare the dyno graph from stock to Stage 2, along with real world testing times and what it feels like on the road.

My M5 was done y you guys last summer by the previous owner and wow what a difference I drove one at Bmw and was like wow these are fast then when I went out in the one I got tuned by you guys its blew me away for sure !! keep up the amazing work

This is the video I’ve been waiting for! edit** I'm sure this BMW v8 should be good for over 1000hp with hybrid turbos (Pure Turbos) and applicable mods. If it can out down that power through all four wheels it would be good for 2.3s 0-60 I reckon.

I would not let the outcome of that be the deciding factor. They will be so close. Drive both. Buy which one you prefer.
Evolve Automotive been out in both they both have good and bad points very closely matched. Just want to see what cars more tuneable now. From the draggy times it looks like you might have a slight edge

very special car and it was coming to the point with these new turbo,d generation engines 4wd was the only way to go , that much power through just the rear wheels becomes tiresome after a while especially in the uk where its nearly always wet , also im just as excited to see the rs3 grow as much as the m5 , rs3 is a great edition to the bmw line up

Sounds good. Did you disable active sound? Also when you tune the ECU can you remove the speed limiter?
Haven't disabled Active Sound yet. Yes top speed limit removed
That is crazy power well done! Before vmax how would you drive the car. And what fuel would you put in days before. For instance my m3 s65 I would put in good fuel and reset adaptions and then pull thr car hard for 2 days before the race. How long should adaptions take to get maximum timing etc.
We use Shell V Power unless otherwise stated all the time so it doesn't really need to adapt to anything.

Hey Imran, do you think you would every look into creating an aftermarket intake manifold for the e92 m3? Or would the market versus r&d involved not be worth it..or I suppose the gains versus lack of not worth it..just curious to get your input
Eventuri are currently developing a carbon fibre intake plenum, but to be honest BMW really nailed the intake design on these cars, the airbox is one of the best we’ve seen and the plenum is tuned perfectly for the car. Not sure you’d find much performance gain by changing any of its design.
Eventuri did a few optimisations to gain around 9bhp with their intake, currently testing the plenum but it’s a much more visual/noise upgrade.

Alpina and ///m are 2 different worlds and imran looks more like an ///m type of guy so personally i think they will never ever do it.

A quick question, I thought the M5 is supposed to have the M sport stitching seatbelts as standard? Is it an option in the UK? Cheers

No slippage. Check our race videos to see how times we have launched this car from 0-200mph.

No plans to sell this for at least 2 years. We are still developing parts for it

How good is the 4wd (xdrive) system compared to like audi or Mercedes?
My last two (prior to my M5C) were a 2018 E63S and a 2017 RS7 Perf. I loved the traction on those cars and the same is true of the F90's system. Launch-wise, the RS7 felt a little stronger but the numbers don't back that up. Short story: it feels great; it pushes the power to the rear most of the time and it feels good as a result; RWD-only is amusing but nothing I'll use on regular basis.
is mapping the same thing as tuning? someone said i could map my diesel audi a4 and it will be as quick as an s4? i doubt it but can ask for nothing.. cheers. your beamers beautiful btw
Remapping is a form of tuning yes. Would have to see what the gains were from your car, and I imagine that would be in comparison to a stock S4, but it’s not impossible.

Great video Imran but can you strat telling us the wheel hp and not just the engines output as its the whp that really matters👍🏾
In Europe we use crank figures. The delta is what's important anyway. Dynojet read so high compared to our dyno rwp would just look too low to US guys
@@EvolveAutomotive im not saying dont include hp output im saying on top of that include bhp output. I watch american vids aswell though im from u.k. and they often mention bhp...like drag times for example or the smoking tire. Our market may not be as big as the u.s. one but we still love your vids and still want to relate it to our terminology👍🏾
@@Brozay401 thats why we give acceleration figures too. Much more relevant than any Dyno figure that can be manipulated.
Hi would you recommend a e60 as that's all I have in my budget?
If your budget can only just afford a car be aware that any repairs of maintenance might cost alot too. Even tyres might cost more than you expect

It should be roughly 615-620whp (which does seem on the low side) but we'll wait for for Imran to confirm it :) The calulator I used based the figure on: AWD and modern automatic transmission.
What tires are you running?

Are you doing anything special to get the car to "happy" on the dyno? I used dyno mode, RWD-only mode and even tried it in 4WD but struggled to get the car to NOT freak out.
We can run it with or without Dyno mode. Just have to make sure the wheels are in the correct place so it doesn't keep shifting power between back and front

Adjusting the bed length so that it sits evenly on the front and rear rollers.
@@EvolveAutomotive Ah, I understand. You're trying to eliminate the car's perception of traction loss. In my scenario, I think that's irrelevant given we're using an independent hub dyno as opposed to rollers.

If not using a linked dyno a lot of it will come down to how well the software can manage the front/rear rollers to match the speeds.

Our dyno does not have graph smoothing. If we took it to a dynojet it would look smooth and it drives just like stock buy with more power.
Evolve I have a question. There is this theory roaming around the internet regarding e9x m3. That if you change the exhaust on it, to an aftermarket one, the backpreassure changes and its one of the reasons why some engines are gone in short time or very problematic. What is Your opinion?
What engine problem exactly does this theory say is caused by changing the exhaust?
@@EvolveAutomotive its one of those theories that bmw designed everything perfect and dont change it/upgrade it. Ive been reading bmw boards and people say that once they changed their exhaust, the "common" e9x m3 problems occured. Personally i think this is bs, but wanted to know what you think of it.
@@RK1FX but what problem ? There is only one major issue with this engine and it can't be caused by an exhaust change
@@EvolveAutomotive idle running problem, unequal preassure in the cylinders, bigger oil consumption (thats what ive read) and many people were writing about this... so what is the major issue with this engine that you are referring to?
