Making the F90 M5 handle like a G80 M3 - Autocouture JRZ Coilovers

- We were always happy with our F90 M5's handling, thanks to MSS it looks great and is super comfortable. But then the G80 M3 came along, and the mirror was shattered, the M5 suddenly felt like a big boat compared to the much more agile M3!
Our friends at Autocouture said they had been working on a full coilover kit that promised to improve the handling of the big saloon, whilst not ruining the ride quality. So we got a set of their JRZ coilovers shipped over for us to try out on our harsh UK roads.

F90 content is back 🚀 Handling mods are so underrated these days all about the HP 😂
Handling is probably an underrated mod but vital, love the m5 and keep the high quality vids up!
Similar to how I felt after putting KW V3s on my F10 M5. Really "shrinks" the car, which is a good thing on a big, heavy beast like the F10 or F90 M5.
Can't speak for the awd F90, but on the F10 I also had a noticeable straight-line traction increase, as the weight transfer was improved.
I pay more attention to this whip than my own.

Always appreciate the detailed + informative commentary you guys give out on your findings through your videos. I've heard many good things about the dampening quality on JRZ's products. I keep seeing their name mentioned on forums for S2000s, MX-5s, BMW M cars and Porsches. The owners in these forums often compare them to other advanced level equivalents by Öhlins, KW, Nitron etc. Keep up the great work :)

This is a serious bit of kit, now you have a suspension up to those 1000hp. It's getting a full package, good work and feedback.

As always great video & choice of upgrades...if it weren’t for you brief near flying of your seat experience and the jacket in the back being tossed about by the G forces....one would think you were just out for a short run round the corner...and the car looks so planted and definitely no perceptible lean on the bends...not a major fun of lowered cars..but it’s a 10/10 visually with yours and a plus for no ride compromise..shock specialists have come a long way!!!! Thanks for sharing Imran👌🏽

Great kit! Had it on a F30. Way better an more control than the Bilstein B12 wich were swapped out. Of course different price level, but more than worth it.

Thank you! It’s a Sony A6500 with an 18-105 F4 lens. In car stuff is GoPro Hero 9.
Then it just comes down to probably spending a little too much time making sure it looks it’s best in the edit, maximising what’s possible out of it, as the camera/lens setup is probably more basic than a lot of people use.
That's a great package!! I'm not keen on cars slammed that much though, the arch just above/on the tyre edge is perfect for me, I don't like the tyres lost in the arches, it looks broken... Great mod though... 👌🏻

Great vid, could you possibly speak some more on the current settings that your running? For example what dampening and rebound settings front and rear? Car looks amazing btw. Shout out from Canada!
We are using the settings Autocouture recommended.
Adjusting down from full stiff -
Front - 9 clicks
Rear - 12 clicks

Did you set the geo to factory specs Imran, Camber etc. Did you have a geo before your road tset ?.

Would you recommend this setup over the MSS if an M5 was used as a daily driver?
If you’re willing to sacrifice some comfort (and money) for a much improved handling experience then yes. If the M5 was your only car I’d want to say go for these, to improve the fun handling characteristics. If you have a smaller more fun car I’d go MSS for ultimate comfort.

Are there any coilovers for f90 that keep EDC functionality? I'm not talking about EDC delete, but keeping the factory settings.

The KW4 has ddc functionality on their own but you must use an app or set up its own button yes? Keeping factory settings like he says operating dampers through Idrive is only possible with stock dampers with stock or other springs as of now? :)

Hi, i was always wondering, when people go really low on their cars, like this for example, like, how will the suspension absorb bumps, go over speed bumps, i mean, what if i had 2 people in the back, and stuff in the trunk? There legit is no room for movement, please clarify..
Like any modification, you are suiting it more to your specific use cases. From factory the manufacturer has to factor in a very broad range of uses.
When modifying you can sacrifice some areas to improve others - such as sacrificing usability in the form of ground clearance, for looks.
The car still has a good amount of suspension travel on the back, and as you can see from the sidewall does not rub.
How do you adjust the dampening in the rear though? Tear out the rear interior again?

Believe the suspension is not the same of the 540ix.

Yes, we use the metric system so millimetres is how we measure the amount lowered.

Haven’t tried it but Autocouture developed this as a cheaper alternative.
Imran what are the lenses on your glasses ?
Not sure on the brand but they transition with UV and have a blue light filter added which is what gives them that purple tinge.
Why would you want to cancel EDC?
Because these dampers are not electronic.

what happened to the front splitter?
We take it off for top speed events and just haven’t put it back on.
We actually washed and put it back to ‘street’ spec whilst Matt was editing this, just didn’t work out that we could have some finished shots of it clean and with the RKP kit on.

Handling is the first mod anyone should focus on. Power is pointless without a good chassis and traction.
The rear looks a touch too low.
We are letting the suspension settle and then will readjust, will probably bring the back up a tad

The standard brakes are just fine for what we are doing with it. Honestly the only reason to go ceramic for us is weight saving.
