    Bosch Miter Saw 12”
    Kreg Pocket Hole Jig
    Kreg Pocket Hole Screws

    Kreg Swing Stop
    Kreg Production Stop
    Kreg Measuring Tape Left side
    Kreg Measuring Tape Right Side
    Porter Cable Dovetail Jig
    Pro 100 drawer slides
    Deft Lacquer

    Walnut Edge banding
    Architect Triangle Rulers
    Porter Cable Dovetail Jig
This is an easy to build fully modular system! I show you how to build base cabinets, which can be done in 2' or 3' widths. And upper cabinets in 2' or 3' sections. So this project is scalable to any size! Mine is 13' wide, but you could easily build it anywhere from 3' - 20' wide or more. Simply by adding or subtracting components.
You also can just as easily make the base with drawers as I did or with shelving & cabinet doors, like I did the uppers. You will also see how to build a rigid semi-torsion box style top, in which to embed your miter saw.
And you choose the level of build that you want. from basic ply, to Baltic birch, or even hardwoods. Any of which will make a perfectly functional Extreme Miter Station.
All of this is detailed in this 4-part video series, and available in full comprehensive plans on our website. kingsfinewoodworking.com
    My build:
This is a 13' long x 7' tall miter station containing sixteen dovetailed drawers, in four base cabinets, a bank of six upper cabinets, and a bunch of storage shelving cubby holes in the middle.
The bodies of the cabinets are mostly Baltic birch plywood. the drawer fronts are from leftover pieces of walnut plywood that I had from a kitchen job. And the sides are skinned with 1/4" cherry plywood.
I used architect's scale triangular aluminum rulers for the drawer pulls. I drilled and tapped them just for this project. And the upper cabinet handles are actually 3" c-clamps.
My old miter station had a 12" DeWalt sliding compound miter saw, that used up too much space in my shop. The dual bars that the miter head slid on forced me to keep the saw 11" further from the shop wall than I wanted.
After researching, I found the Bosch Glide 12" dual Bevel miter saw that could be placed practically against the wall of the shop. Because of that, I would be able to gain almost a foot of space in my shop. That's quite a bit when the shop isn't as big as I'd like.
Plus my old miter station was put together very quickly, because I needed something functional right away to keep up with my woodworking jobs. So it was not the prettiest looking station.
I took my time, did some research, and spent several days building this Extreme Miter Station. Something I can be proud of.
Plans are available on my website! I hope you come back and see all 4 parts of this video series.

I,like so many others had to watch all 4 "episodes" back to back.Welldone, your calm manner makes watching the videos a treat.I especially like that this was and your other projects are family affairs,I can only imagine how proud you must be to have a family ready to tackle such endeavors.I've installed very high-end custom cabinetry so I am well-acquainted with the effort that's needed to complete projects like this,so hats off to your wife and kids for sharing the load. One tip I might give is when you have many identical items (drawers, drawer openings, drawer fronts, doors) build a jig,if the openings are the same then the screw holes for slides will be in the same relative place for all others.Same goes for drawers and doors (for hinge placement). In custom cabinetry, this is a given.I look forward to seeing more of your great projects!

Thank you James, really enjoyed this series on your miter station. Great job! Looked into buying the Bosch Glide Miter Saw, a little over 800 UK Pounds. I think I will live with the lost space for the time being.. First time I have made a "comment", and I want to say how good it was to see you include your family in the making of your video's. It was funny most of the time you introduced them but it was great to see your youngest Daughter with hands on the tools. I buy my own Daughter her own tools and it is a joy to teach her, but it is her enthusiasm for the craft that gives me the most pleasure. I see that with you and your Daughter. Totally entertaining and enlightening.

James, a huge thank you for posting this project and video series. I am in the planning stages of my own (amateur) workshop, and I have reviewed MANY miter station projects; I will definitely be buying your plans and putting it in my shop. Your thorough and detailed videos will help me immensely when it's time for the build. You also deserve much respect for involving your family in your projects and encouraging your kids' interest in your craft - it is so great seeing them enjoying it, and even though they may not realize it yet, you are teaching them skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives. It is an unfortunate fact that these days, not enough kids spend their time on worthwhile endeavors like working with their hands and minds...what you guys are doing as a family is so important and valuable. Major kudos to you!

Well Mr. King, I must apologize for possibly having forgotten your first name if you mentioned it? I've just sat through all 4 episodes of this with a few unexpected breaks, but I must say that you are amazing! Being a professional cabinet builder things from concept, layout, design, cut-out, alignment, set-up, and build alignment come easy for you after these years of practice, but even your honesty in commentary and willingness to not edit out the occasional whoops, show your integrity and admission of being human. Your patience to show us strangers, your son-in-law, and daughters also prove your awesomeness, as I'm confident that there are people that have/will watch this wishing to know half of what your children have been taught. This is truly a well thought out plan, and looks to be able to stand the test of time. I was unable to simply comment thank you for your time taken to not only impede yourself with the camera over your shoulder, but also edit in a manner that provides the pertinent details and cut out the mundane tasks. Your vision has come to life, and it's purely magnificent! Absolutely well done sir, you have without a doubt earned many followers and subscribers due to your calming attitude and fine craftsmanship! From the bottom of my heart I'd like to thank you for this series, and I definitely look forward to seeing more fabulous projects that will build confidence in my ability to woodwork. Thanks again, in case I've not stressed that enough.

What a beautiful project , done expertly & with the assistance of your own family. Your narration is very soothing & like watching a documentary; far more valuable than a cheap movie where there is usually very little if anything of substance. What a fortunate man to be surrounded by women only; but more importantly sharing your passion with your girls is priceless. In years to come as they grow into adults, that bond you create with your children when they are young will remain. They will have memories to cherish & share with their own offsprings. Every time I wanted to share with my boy; he had to go abroad; so I guess unlike you I will seldom have this golden once in a lifetime opportunity to do what you did. I very much look forward to seeing more project. In fact I subscribed on the second installment of your project. very well executed. Kind regards.

King's Fine Woodworking Just curious, but there are other joints to use other than dovetail for drawers that are strong as well right? Was just thinking I could make a finger joint jig easier than I could buy a dovetail jig.

    • @KingsFineWoodworking
      @KingsFineWoodworking  7 лет назад +1

Hi. You bet. Finger joints today with modern adhesives are every bit as strong as dovetails.
If for any reason you don't have a finger jig yet, my video on 12" Deep Reach C-Clamps, shows an extremely easy and accurate one that only takes minutes to make.

Don't know if I like the C clamp handle idea, I know that I never have enough clamps --- and I know I'd be tempted to borrow one or two :) However, I do like the triangular ruler. Some fresh ideas, keep them coming.

I felt the same way. I really like the look of everything in this build except for the c-clamp pulls. It just looks like the job is incomplete with those. The tri-ruler pulls are cool.

Hello, and thanks for the great video series. I just watched from the first installment to the last in one 2 hour sitting and it was worth every minute. I am closing on a new house in about a week or two and I have close to 1000 sq ft of garage space to fill with awesome goodness. I think this will be a great starter project from which all the others will grow from. Great ideas man! keep em' coming :) Oh, and it is cool to see you working with your kids.

Hi. Thank you very much for watching and for the kind comment. Congratulations on your new home. And 1000 sq/ft for shop space is going to be awesome. I only had room for a 600 sq/ft shop in my backyard. And it is definitely a great idea to start with the miter station and then everything after that will be so much easier.
      Thanks ~ James

You have given wonderful tutelage. I have wanted to build my own kitchen, but wanted to use timber. I think that I may go the plywood route. (I forgot that I was on my husbands page. )

I sat down and did all the math and came with with the plywood count too, then found out about Sketch up, I'm going to have to learn a new program again. Merry xmas and you and your family have a great New Year. Brian

I’m living with almond/ faux wood trim laminated kitchen cabinets from ‘91 ... debating on hiring someone to just replace the doors since shell is solid wood. Looking at your shop cabinets and thinking they look better than my kitchen, lol ... loved your 4 part series

Amazing work. I love the mixture of wood species. It's a really great composition of colors and textures.
Btw, if those C-clamp slide loose, drilling a drop on the top of those blocks with a Forstner bit will give the pipe bolt a little something to hold onto. At least they won't just pop off when they loosen.

I really like the design! It’s beautiful! I was thinking- whenever I make anything large in the shop I glue it, I guess I trust glue a bit more than pocket screws but it made a huge cost difference now you were able to reuse your old material. I’ve been waiting to build something like this in my shop. Similar to your previous situation, I have a good setup now but would like something a bit more Sophisticated like what you’ve done. Great work, man! I’m also glad your kids get in the shop. I have a 4 and 1 year old and they go out there and help all the time... no tools, just helping clean lol. They’re closer to the ground 😂😂
