Tools & Specialty items in this build:
    Bosch Miter Saw 12”
    Kreg Pocket Hole Jig
    Kreg Pocket Hole Screws
    Kreg Top Track
    Kreg Swing Stop
    Kreg Production Stop
    Kreg Measuring Tape Left side
    Kreg Measuring Tape Right Side
    Porter Cable Dovetail Jig
    Pro 100 drawer slides
    Deft Lacquer
    Edge banding trimmer
    Walnut Edge banding
    Architect Triangle Rulers
    Porter Cable Dovetail Jig
This is an easy to build fully modular system! I show you how to build base cabinets, which can be done in 2' or 3' widths. And upper cabinets in 2' or 3' sections. So this project is scalable to any size! Mine is 13' wide, but you could easily build it anywhere from 3' - 20' wide or more. Simply by adding or subtracting components.
You also can just as easily make the base with drawers as I did or with shelving & cabinet doors, like I did the uppers. You will also see how to build a rigid semi-torsion box style top, in which to embed your miter saw.
And you choose the level of build that you want. from basic ply, to Baltic birch, or even hardwoods. Any of which will make a perfectly functional Extreme Miter Station.
All of this is detailed in this 4-part video series, and available in full comprehensive plans on our website. kingsfinewoodworking.com
    My build:
This is a 13' long x 7' tall miter station containing sixteen dovetailed drawers, in four base cabinets, a bank of six upper cabinets, and a bunch of storage shelving cubby holes in the middle.
The bodies of the cabinets are mostly Baltic birch plywood. the drawer fronts are from leftover pieces of walnut plywood that I had from a kitchen job. And the sides are skinned with 1/4" cherry plywood.
I used architect's scale triangular aluminum rulers for the drawer pulls. I drilled and tapped them just for this project. And the upper cabinet handles are actually 3" c-clamps.
My old miter station had a 12" DeWalt sliding compound miter saw, that used up too much space in my shop. The dual bars that the miter head slid on forced me to keep the saw 11" further from the shop wall than I wanted.
After researching, I found the Bosch Glide 12" dual Bevel miter saw that could be placed practically against the wall of the shop. Because of that, I would be able to gain almost a foot of space in my shop. That's quite a bit when the shop isn't as big as I'd like.
Plus my old miter station was put together very quickly, because I needed something functional right away to keep up with my woodworking jobs. So it was not the prettiest looking station.
I took my time, did some research, and spent several days building this Extreme Miter Station. Something I can be proud of.
Plans are available on my website! I hope you come back and see all 4 parts of this video series.

Using the architect’s scales for drawer pulls is pretty slick. I’ve always felt that adding those custom touches is the best part about making your own furniture, workbenches and so on. Nice work.

This is the 3rd time I'm watching this series to build the miter saw station and I am picking up things I have missed in the past. The only 2 things I would do differently are; I would put the base cabinets on bearers (Timbers screwed along the floor packed up to level directly below the sides of each cabinet to give a single plain) and I square hinges to the doors with a spirit level again the sides of the cups. This way all hinges line up parallel. These series have given me lots of ideas, this is a great channel!

James, I appreciate your attention to detail and your detailed explanations of that detail. I also appreciate the tidbits of humor you sneak into your presentations. I have already enrolled for a masters degree at the School for Professional Gluing that you mentioned in this episode. Please share with your charming daughter that my wife has two degrees in Industrial Arts and is a skilled professional woodworker. The introduction of this episode showed what I thought were overly fancy drawer pulls until you explained and demonstrated the installation of the engineers’ rules as pulls. Clever. Aubrey

I have watched all 3 vid's in this series now. This guy is slow, very accurate, pay's attention to every last detail and is thinking 10 step's ahead. Exactly how it should be done. My kind of builder that's for sure.
And FYI, to add to the comment below. I too am from Canada and even thing's like OSB sheeting are far cheaper in the states than here and alot of your OSB comes from here.
OSB plant I toured 2.5 hours north of me ship's 95% of what they make south of the border.

James, I just found your you tube channel. I like your approach. I am a retired builder remodeler and made lots of built-in type furniture and cabinetry of special nature. I also taught several men and women over the years how to do it right. I like the completeness of your explanations on how you do it and the carefulness of your work. I all goes together better that way. Thanks so much. John in Pensacola, Fl.

Thought I was so ingenious to have come up with using the architect scale as drawer pulls and here I see that you had it first! :) I ended up epoxying 1/4-20 coupling nuts to the scales at about the same spot that you tapped them and bolting them through my drawer faces. They've held up well! Nice miter station and nice work!

Your video was good, I didn't mind the length, informative. I did hear size of hinge bit, and your very good at detail, which as an amateur woodworker myself, I like it.
Your daughter works like she was born with a hammer in hand ready to go.
I wished I had that available when I was young. I think she will do very well as the way your doing it.

    Greetings from Scotland,
I have to admit, you guys make some fantastic stuff and I am wanting to build something VERY similar in my dinky european garage, which is only about 6ft wide, which is terrible. Anyway, we dont usually use table saws over here but my idea was to build one into a cupboard and have it pull open (hinged at the top, opening vertically).
Anyway, great video, great family and thank you for sharing your skills with us.

Hello Cristian Rodrigo dos Santos, I do not have any sponsors. I paid for every item in my woodworking videos here with my own money.
I do like the brands that I use. And, I let people know what I like. I'm not experimenting with learning woodworking like many RUclipsrs are. I am a professional woodworker, and have been woodworking for almost 32 years.
(There is nothing wrong with learning as you go and recording it and putting it on RUclips. I think that's fantastic! It's just not what I do.)
So typically the things I build here, I do it for fun, or for give-always, or to sell. But it is all things I have built before.
When I talk about the Deft brand lacquer that I like, for example, I let people know, because over the last decade, I've probably tried 11 or 12 different lacquers, and the Deft always provided the best results.
The people at Deft don't pay me, and you can use anything you like. :-)
I hope that satisfies your curiosity.
      ~ James

The only thing I see that I wouldn't do is put those cabinet door hinges so far in the middle of the door. The typical standard is about 3.5" from each edge. Other than that, you do very nice work. I will be starting a miter station from Jay Bates and some of your ideas as well pretty soon. Only thing I am adding that you guys don't have is a radial arm saw along with the sliding miter saw. I got a new Delta 12" one for next to nothing so I am going to incorporate it in my station. I have always liked the RAS. Great Job.

Another way to guarantee the hinges are square 28:54 is put them both in place and place a straight edge (scrap timber will do) along the back edge of both hinges, they will square each other up. No need for wobbly try square. Subbed and liked ;-)

Just wondering why, when you ripped the Thin Strip for your fence? You ripped it with it between the fence & the Bigger Piece was on the uncontrolled side. Sure looks like your creating a Kickback Situation? Instead of ripping your narrow piece on the uncontrolled side of the Blade. Not a Complaint, just a Question. I Love ALL of Your Videos Please Keep them Coming.

Very nice job! I learned a lot and will make me miter station like that! I got the same miter saw model.
Having said that, I think the handle design is an awful idea and did not turn out well. Will be suprised if you keep it for longer period. I think scrap wooden handles like the guy that has the Pask Makes channel made for his miter station drawers are cheaper and a lot nicer!
