This is an easy to build fully modular system! I show you how to build base cabinets, which can be done in 2' or 3' widths. And upper cabinets in 2' or 3' sections. So this project is scalable to any size! Mine is 13' wide, but you could easily build it anywhere from 3' - 20' wide or more. Simply by adding or subtracting components.
You also can just as easily make the base with drawers as I did or with shelving & cabinet doors, like I did the uppers. You will also see how to build a rigid semi-torsion box style top, in which to embed your miter saw.
And you choose the level of build that you want. from basic ply, to Baltic birch, or even hardwoods. Any of which will make a perfectly functional Extreme Miter Station.
All of this is detailed in this 4-part video series, and available in full comprehensive plans on our website. kingsfinewoodworking.com
My build:
This is a 13' long x 7' tall miter station containing sixteen dovetailed drawers, in four base cabinets, a bank of six upper cabinets, and a bunch of storage shelving cubby holes in the middle.
The bodies of the cabinets are mostly Baltic birch plywood. the drawer fronts are from leftover pieces of walnut plywood that I had from a kitchen job. And the sides are skinned with 1/4" cherry plywood.
I used architect's scale triangular aluminum rulers for the drawer pulls. I drilled and tapped them just for this project. And the upper cabinet handles are actually 3" c-clamps.
My old miter station had a 12" DeWalt sliding compound miter saw, that used up too much space in my shop. The dual bars that the miter head slid on forced me to keep the saw 11" further from the shop wall than I wanted.
After researching, I found the Bosch Glide 12" dual Bevel miter saw that could be placed practically against the wall of the shop. Because of that, I would be able to gain almost a foot of space in my shop. That's quite a bit when the shop isn't as big as I'd like.
Plus my old miter station was put together very quickly, because I needed something functional right away to keep up with my woodworking jobs. So it was not the prettiest looking station.
I took my time, did some research, and spent several days building this Extreme Miter Station. Something I can be proud of.
Plans are available on my website! I hope you come back and see all 4 parts of this video series.

I hope to replace my "junk" shelf/wall with one of these.... thanks for the videos and your craftsmanship is phenomenal. And, kudos for how you've taught your children. They will all look back on these years when they get older!
A very nice comment
Using the architect’s scales for drawer pulls is pretty slick. I’ve always felt that adding those custom touches is the best part about making your own furniture, workbenches and so on. Nice work.
only commenting on the first min so i know there is probably more to some but I love the ruler drawer pulls and the c-clamp for the door handles!!!
Again a really well put together very informative film also nice to see family working together
Thank you Chris!
This is the 3rd time I'm watching this series to build the miter saw station and I am picking up things I have missed in the past. The only 2 things I would do differently are; I would put the base cabinets on bearers (Timbers screwed along the floor packed up to level directly below the sides of each cabinet to give a single plain) and I square hinges to the doors with a spirit level again the sides of the cups. This way all hinges line up parallel. These series have given me lots of ideas, this is a great channel!
James, I appreciate your attention to detail and your detailed explanations of that detail. I also appreciate the tidbits of humor you sneak into your presentations. I have already enrolled for a masters degree at the School for Professional Gluing that you mentioned in this episode. Please share with your charming daughter that my wife has two degrees in Industrial Arts and is a skilled professional woodworker. The introduction of this episode showed what I thought were overly fancy drawer pulls until you explained and demonstrated the installation of the engineers’ rules as pulls. Clever. Aubrey
Been working on this miter station for over a year now, had to check back in to see how to do the fence and drawer fronts. Great channel and projects.
I got some great takeaways from your video for my design of my drawers. Thanks for sharing!!!
Awesome! Thank you for watching!
Don't apologize for the length, this was informative from start to finish.. Not a word wasted! Awesome series
Hello James, thank you very much for sharing your videos on setting up your workshop. I have been following you recently and frankly I am amazed by your achievements. In a while, I plan to rearrange a small workshop for my pleasure. So if you will allow me, I will be inspired in part by your accomplishments. Thank you again for your sharing, your inventiveness and your know-how, I'm learning a lot and watching you do it. Friendships from France 🇫🇷 Thierry
Your handles are terrific!
I like to watch your work
Don't apologize for length. Your videos are so much more helpful than those that show rapid motion and little detail. You make videos that are educational. Don't change a thing.
I have watched all 3 vid's in this series now. This guy is slow, very accurate, pay's attention to every last detail and is thinking 10 step's ahead. Exactly how it should be done. My kind of builder that's for sure.
And FYI, to add to the comment below. I too am from Canada and even thing's like OSB sheeting are far cheaper in the states than here and alot of your OSB comes from here.
OSB plant I toured 2.5 hours north of me ship's 95% of what they make south of the border.
Thank you for your kind comments. And that certainly isn't fair that your materials costs in Canada are higher, that seems bizarre.
Loved it, the time just flew by. You could make these videos last for an hour and I’d still watch them, they held my attention very well. I have seen these videos a couple of years ago but they’re so good I had to watch them again. You’re one hell of a wood worker.👍
James, I just found your you tube channel. I like your approach. I am a retired builder remodeler and made lots of built-in type furniture and cabinetry of special nature. I also taught several men and women over the years how to do it right. I like the completeness of your explanations on how you do it and the carefulness of your work. I all goes together better that way. Thanks so much. John in Pensacola, Fl.
Hi John! Thank you for all the kind words. Very nice to meet another builder. Take care ~James
James Thank you for your response. I like that you reference where you find your materials and tools as that to me is better than being paid to say that. Looking forward to the other things you upload.

Recent subscriber here - very well-done videos. I especially like the fact that your daughter is learning the craft.
enjoying the build, watched this one twice already. Looking forward to the next one. Love how the daughter pops in from time to time.
Thank you! She really loves working in the woodshop. And, I'm editing part 4, the last one right now. Should be up tomorrow. :-)
dude the scales for door pull idea in genius, looks amazing!
Very. Ice build ! Thanks for being so detailed. I am a wood floor guy of 18 years and a little finish carpentry skills. Always looking to sharpen them skills anyway possible. I need to spend a weeks vacation with you in your shop. Thanks Ed
That's a beautiful miter station and it's nice to see family working together god bless brother
Thank you!
Love love love the drawer pulls. Clever idea.
Hi Jared, thank you!
Those Scale drawer pulls are a stellar finishing touch, well done!
Thank you!!
Thought I was so ingenious to have come up with using the architect scale as drawer pulls and here I see that you had it first! :) I ended up epoxying 1/4-20 coupling nuts to the scales at about the same spot that you tapped them and bolting them through my drawer faces. They've held up well! Nice miter station and nice work!
Haha. Great minds think alike. Thank you!
Love those drawer pulls.
Thank you!
Very detailed and informative!
I envy this miter station. You are a craftsman for sure. Great video, thx for sharing it.
Thank you very much!
Looks great man! I must admit you are a better man than I to put so much work into hand pulls! Cheers!
Fantastic project! Love it
Wow, You are extremely calm and thorough with your explanation of everything your doing. I enjoyed watching your videos,it made me wish that I had a house with a garage so I too could build something like that. You seem to have a 100 tools for everything you do, that's amazing . Anyways,,, Keep up the good work, and God Bless you and your family.
Thank you very much!
Like always, wood instructions brings good results. Thanks for you labor of love.
Your video was good, I didn't mind the length, informative. I did hear size of hinge bit, and your very good at detail, which as an amateur woodworker myself, I like it.
Your daughter works like she was born with a hammer in hand ready to go.
I wished I had that available when I was young. I think she will do very well as the way your doing it.
Thank you very much!
Nothing wrong with a long video when the content is good like these. :)
Thank you!
Thank you for all the hard work editing and posting good videos. I like that you include your family in the process as well. Your daughter could use her own sanding mask. I need one as well. I'm tired of wood boogers ;)
Yeah, them wood boogers are the worst. But you are exactly right. She has a very high quality respirator and I am usually very careful about always making her wear it.
Greetings from Poland.Loved the build I learned a lot. Thanks for sharing!!!
Greetings from Scotland,
I have to admit, you guys make some fantastic stuff and I am wanting to build something VERY similar in my dinky european garage, which is only about 6ft wide, which is terrible. Anyway, we dont usually use table saws over here but my idea was to build one into a cupboard and have it pull open (hinged at the top, opening vertically).
Anyway, great video, great family and thank you for sharing your skills with us.
Thank you very much! And good luck with your projects.
I truly like your demeanor and approach to things. I enjoy your work
cool idea on the pulls
Nice drawer pulls
Marty Clack thanks!!
Loving this series. Thank you so much for sharing!
Jameson Elam, thank you. And thanks for watching!

I really like your drawer pulls. The rest of build looks great as well.
Thank you Brycen!
Massive job! Well done.

Thank you very much!
Great video, thank you!
Beautiful work.
Creative drawer pulls! 👍
Thank you!
12:00 I love the architect rules!
You sir are a master!
I don't really think that's true, but thank you for they very kind compliment.
I like the pulls. I will be making a station in the future but it will not be as complicated as yours. I am thinking I will be making drawers but without dovetails. Yours is great!
Hi Ronald. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don't know if he really loves the products or those are all adds put in the videos. Man he always says the Brand and do some compliments about everything
Hello Cristian Rodrigo dos Santos, I do not have any sponsors. I paid for every item in my woodworking videos here with my own money.
I do like the brands that I use. And, I let people know what I like. I'm not experimenting with learning woodworking like many RUclipsrs are. I am a professional woodworker, and have been woodworking for almost 32 years.
(There is nothing wrong with learning as you go and recording it and putting it on RUclips. I think that's fantastic! It's just not what I do.)
So typically the things I build here, I do it for fun, or for give-always, or to sell. But it is all things I have built before.
When I talk about the Deft brand lacquer that I like, for example, I let people know, because over the last decade, I've probably tried 11 or 12 different lacquers, and the Deft always provided the best results.
The people at Deft don't pay me, and you can use anything you like. :-)
I hope that satisfies your curiosity.
~ James
Awesome , thanks for sharing it’s going to be a great help
The only thing I see that I wouldn't do is put those cabinet door hinges so far in the middle of the door. The typical standard is about 3.5" from each edge. Other than that, you do very nice work. I will be starting a miter station from Jay Bates and some of your ideas as well pretty soon. Only thing I am adding that you guys don't have is a radial arm saw along with the sliding miter saw. I got a new Delta 12" one for next to nothing so I am going to incorporate it in my station. I have always liked the RAS. Great Job.
Haha. I didn't know you live in Denver. I've watched a lot of your videos and never realized until now. I live an hour or so south of you in Fountain. Keep the videos coming. God bless...
Awesome.
Very through and I like it
"French cleat illusion" lol... job well done as always
Nice job 👍
great job nem. beatfull.
awesome series Sir. i do woodworking as a hobbie. i love it. very calming for me. you Sir are Very good. thank you for the videos.
Thank you very much
I like the waste factor rule
GREAT MITER STATION I WISH I HAD ROOM FOR ONE LIKE IT
HI SCOTT! Thank you!
Arghhh...been bz this weekend....thanks for sharing this with us
Thank you for watching.
When installing hinges on the doors I put them closer to the ends of the doors and put the square on top and bottom of door and align it with mounting flange.
Thank you very much. This looks very good
Thank you!
Licensed professional glue spreaders got me, that is good stuff.
Haha, yes indeed!
Dude I think it's so cool how you guys work together and the stuff ya'll put out there is just awesome plus the "photo bomber" kinda MAKES these videos fun to watch, she's so cute the way she sneaks in there, like where's Waldo lol, y'all keep em coming, k?
Thank you!
Tell my sister at Safeway hello for me. I didn't realize till now that Denver is where you all live!
Haha, that's awesome!
Great video's enjoying watching whilst laid up sick. Another way to guarantee the hinges are square 28:54 is put them both in place and place a straight edge (scrap timber will do) along the back edge of both hinges, they will square each other up. No need for wobbly try square. Subbed and liked ;-)
Thank you for the tip. I hope you feel better soon.
I'm planning a long miter station like this but my actual miter saw will sit on a rolling cart. I've been watching all sorts of builds to get ideas. Thanks
I like the using architec rule as handle thank for this video : alexis of France
awesome stuff man! thats my goal to work close to my family so whenever they want to come help they can. we can always do things together whenever they want to. :) keep up the great content and God bless.
Thank you very much.
very nice 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Al!
As an architect, I cringe seeing you drill holes in those scales. But as a woodworker I applaud you for something very unique. They turned out great! I may need to set my morals aside and do this as well.
Haha, Thank you. I was quite torn too. I did buy cheap imported scales, but just the same, I was saddened a bit.
shout out for Denver, no longer live out there but spent 8 years in Castle Rock.
We have an air compressor like yours in our shop and we built a box around it with sound proofing and a bathroom exhaust fan on a temp sensor and a large door. Would love to see your take on that!
That's a brilliant idea! The noise of that thing can drive you crazy! I would really like to move it outside of my shop. And, I was thinking of building a tiny shed to house it, but with the same noise-proof insulation. If I had room in my shop though, I would certainly do as you did! Thanks for the comment.
"licensed professional glue spreaders" ha ha ha This whole project looks amazing! Great job!
Thank you very much!
Neat hardware
Great series of videos James! I like your style, very informative and detailed. You gained a subscriber! P.S. - Greetings from Vermont!
Hello! Thank you for the compliment!
saludos desde MÉXICO
Do you still offer the Advanced Diploma of PVA Glue Spreading? I missed out on the earlier courses you were offering. 😂 But seriously, cutting the fence to fit over the aluminum mitre saw fence is brilliant. I'll be copying that.
Hahaha! Awesome. best comment I've read! Thanks!
To kingpost.
If you drill all the way through the scale ruler, you can have the two wings facing outwards.
Eirik
Great Jobs Sir, Happy 2021 New year to you and family 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
Just wondering why, when you ripped the Thin Strip for your fence? You ripped it with it between the fence & the Bigger Piece was on the uncontrolled side. Sure looks like your creating a Kickback Situation? Instead of ripping your narrow piece on the uncontrolled side of the Blade. Not a Complaint, just a Question. I Love ALL of Your Videos Please Keep them Coming.
Very nice job! I learned a lot and will make me miter station like that! I got the same miter saw model.
Having said that, I think the handle design is an awful idea and did not turn out well. Will be suprised if you keep it for longer period. I think scrap wooden handles like the guy that has the Pask Makes channel made for his miter station drawers are cheaper and a lot nicer!
Thanks for the tips!
In Germany we would call it „Geiler Scheiss“ - i really like your work
ok. Thank you!
