@EverydayBuilds nicely done! This is my first but not the last of your videos I've watched. I enjoyed your humour and clear explanation! I never thought about boxing in a filing cabinet...interesting idea. I think it's great you were wearing a mask and using dust collection most of the time you were cutting mdf...that stuff is toxic. You are clearly smart and creative...definitely subscribed. I also think it's great you acknowledged who you got the idea from.
I love the way that you included normal Office filing cabinets into your workbenches, great idea. I wouldn't have thought of that, I would have just used some 'old' second hand kitchen cabinet bases. Your idea is much better. Nice mitre station.
Had to comment on your observation about waiting too long to buy a track saw - completely agree. Anyone cutting panels needs to buy one today, don't wait.
VERY nice build!!! 16:25 A strip of left over laminate in the groove for your T-track, will lift the T-track up to being flush with the top of your work surface.
Hi Jordan. I don't work with wood or any other material, but I follow many channels. I came across yours by chance and started following you. Thank you for sharing your work. A big hug from Lisbon, Portugal, EU
Just found your channel… And it’s the first time I saw somebody use contact cement and put down a laminate… That while watching I thought “hell I can do that”. You have a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing… Best to you and yours.
For someone who has undiagnosed OCD, your video instantly drew me in with the high contrast bench colors. Then you kept my attention with the great shots of satisfying cuts and assembly. Great job! I've always thought about adding laminate to work benches, but have refrained due to how it wears. While the black top you added looks amazing new, you can see the wear and tear as white scratches on your assembly table. I wonder if just changing to lighter colors would hide them better. With a wood top, any wear just adds to the look. One last note, kudos to you for giving credit where credit is due regarding your inspiration. I'm sure Mr. Hibbs will see this one day and comment.
First of all, thank you! And secondly, the laminate on my assembly table is pre-applied and significantly inferior to the laminate I applied to the miter saw station. The laminate on the miter saw station will hold up much much better than the assembly table. Hope that helps! 😊
I bought Paperstone solid surface sheet seconds directly at the factory in Hoquiam Wa for my assorted interior cabine counters. Extremely dense material that can be worked with carpentry tools and carbide blades. The toughest material you will ever meet. I was even able to tap and thread it for flush fasteners
Like you I put off buying a track saw for years. Bought one last year from the money of a kitchen install. What a game changer in the shop! I can in seconds cut a straight chip free reference edge on almost anything. Last time I did some laminate for a craft table. I used the track saw to even rough cut the laminate to size. So much quicker and easier than knife and snapping. Really need to get a hose and get some dust collection set up like yours.
Thank You. I have subscribed because you worked on a project without trying to sell me anythin, No sponsors no commercia's really hope your channel groes.
12:15 the proper scoring tool is a single pass usually. After scoring bend it so the score you just did is on the inside of the fold. This will snap the backing clean as it stretches and leave a much nicer edge and you only need to bend one way. And it's satisfying like bubble wrap when it snaps. Not truly important if you are going to do a final flush trim with a router, but if you ever need to seam two pieces together, I'd get the right tool. they are $5.00 P.S. I realized I forgot to say, awesome build. Good ideas in there. I hadn't seen the miter track and the woodpecker stops. Those are nice. Having the stop in the work surface instead of maintaining a fence (which is what I have now) is definitely an improvement in function of the overall workspace. Redesign is going on the list.
Good video. I use a fine notched spreader for my contact cement and throwaway pain paint brush for the edges. Also spread the glue on the plastic laminate upside down over the top of the matting surfaces first then so you don't have to worry about spills, then coat the matting surface last. I'm going to have to try the hardwood chamfer technique on my next opportunity. Also plastic laminate cuts on the table saw just fine and much much faster. You can also use a trim bit with the router to cut pieces to size. I like the track. No need for a fence.
Consistent also works... each subsequent cut is consistent with the previous one. Would also suggest drilling your holes first, before glue, just because that way it doesn't shift on you... while you're doing it.
Just subscribed. This was a great video and exactly what I'm looking to do. The filing cabinets are genius. I like building cabinets and drawers, but don't want to spend that time on making them for the shop. And the cost of all the wood would exceed the cost of the filing cabinets. I'm glad I stumbled across your channel.
Looks great Jordan, the only thing I would say is the laminate on your track needs to be beveled to the height of the track. That’s a catching point if you slide timber that’s slightly bowed. Nice job 👌🏻🇦🇺
I subscribed to your channel because of this build and I was getting ready to replace the crappy melamine top on my mitre station. Studied what you did carefully and am now implementing it. One suggestion for going forward though. Once I have the 1/2" MDF ready for the back of the tabletop, I intend to glue/screw the back down only, put the track in place, and mark out the line for drilling the holes to secure the rail. Just thought that would be an easier way to do it than trying to keep that meter line in-between and below the two 1/2" pieces of MDF. Looking forward to having it done.
My favourite stand build, love the track, a much better solution and one I'll copy I think, thank you. Could you do a video on your extraction please? They quick connect looking setup on your table saw, the way you've suspended it for your track saw etc. Cheers

Really cool build and great video! A couple of questions for you... I had heard that laminate is a good idea because wood glue does not stick to it, or at least is easily removable. Do you find this to be true? I'm thinking of using it for the surface of an assembly table. Also, my basement shop doesn't have great lighting so I'm thinking of using white formica instead of black just to keep things brighter. Looks like your shop is plenty bright, so that's not an issue for you. Do you see other advantages of using black vs white?
Thank you! Yes, laminate is great for a worktop because glue scrapes off easily and it can be removed and replaced. Black is just a personal preference, but it’s probably the worst color to go with, lol 😂. It’s shows everything. White is a great idea for a dim lit area 👍
It is absolutely true. I recently did a folding workbench and covered it with black laminate. I do all my glue ups there now without worry for where the glue is going. Wait for it to dry a bit and it just pops right off with a piece of wood or a drywall scraper.
First of your videos that I've watched. I love it! Nice presentation, style, demeanor, etc. Well edited. I'm a subscriber! Keep up the good work.

Doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all. Thanks for the input! 😁
Thanks for the video man.
You’re welcome!
Good job
Thanks!
@@EverydayBuilds great, thank you!
It is absolutely true. I recently did a folding workbench and covered it with black laminate. I do all my glue ups there now without worry for where the glue is going. Wait for it to dry a bit and it just pops right off with a piece of wood or a drywall scraper.
