I have some ideas that I’d really like to teach, like cabinetry for example, but it’s cost prohibitive for me to buy the materials.
We do make some money on RUclips with the revenue from videos, but it’s surprisingly little, and doesn’t even come close to covering our materials, & electricity costs for the videos.
I thought we might try this out and see how it works. We certainly don’t mind if everyone gets them for free. We will be just as happy and continue making videos, because we really love to do it. But perhaps this can be an option for people to help contribute to the growth of the channel.
Info on the sled:
This sled is ideal for small parts. There are very few safe ways to cut little pieces safely in a woodshop. With a jig like this, it is much safer.
This is also the IDEAL sled for a jobsite saw!
This is not a primary table saw sled for a woodshop. But rather a smaller sled to accompany your main one for when the big one is just too big for certain cuts, or when it’s more convenient to grab a lightweight sled. Most woodshops have various table saw sleds. A primary highly accurate one with a large capacity for cabinet work, and a couple of others for specific tasks.
Things we used for this project:
½” Baltic Birch Plywood (this piece is bigger than needed)
3/4” Baltic Birch Plywood (this piece is bigger than needed)
Two strips of hardwood. ¾” x 3/8” x 16 inches

Why didn't you center the protector with the saw blade? Was that done for a specific reason? You put acrylic on top to be able to see through it but it seems to be positioned too far to the right of the operator. Other than that it is great.

perfect small sled. Thank you. I have made a couple sleds myself and never thought of clamping the fences down to a flat surface. I just put them on edge and use a bajillion clamps! HA. One sled I got lucky but my smaller one developed a little twist right at the kerf of the cut and now I know why! Thank you again. 3 bucks heading your way.

I just finished my cross cut sled for my job site table saw. What a difference this will make in my shop. I used premade UHMW plastic runners on the bottom, and polycarbonate for the blade window. Thanks for your video and ideas. On the top of the front rail I cut in a 3/4” wide groove for a tee track. I epoxied it and screwed it into place. This allowed me to install a flip stop for repeated cuts. I also installed a hand hold in the tee track so my right hand could stay out of the way and push the sled forward in the cut.
I would like to thank you for walking & talking me through the making of this sled. You are a fantastic instructor may I add.

I’ve watched a lot of sled videos and this was my favorite. Built one today very similar to this for my job site table. The mini sled fits perfect!

I have 4+ decades of wood shop woodworking making projects and furniture. And likewise 40+ years of outside carpentry doing all types of work from framing on through the conclusion. Plus I do our own home remodeling for which wifey always has a new idea. I buy professional grade tools and have a good selection, within some level of reason.
The reason I tell you this is so you understand my experience level when I critique your video.
The methods, work, safety, and production are all at a nice pace - just right.
Your voice is very pleasant in a conversational tone, and not like you are reading a script.
You control machine sound - a bit of sound to understand it is running but not annoying.
Your shop is beautiful and machines are maintained meticulously.
The sled is great! Not overly complex, a great size, and safe! I need a better sled so will make one!
You have the best woodworking channel I have found.
So, I need to increase my skills on finish carpentry, router use - table, free hand, plunge, and any other methods. Plus I need skills to make smaller nice quality finished projects. Example: I need to modify a small flat top desk by making an upper section to attach which will increase convenience and efficiency. The top will be like on a Secretary or roll top desk with slots and pigeon holes. It will have a top, left and right sides, and an open front. Some doors and drawers may be optional. There will not be a main front door or cover, but that would be nice. I have all necessary tools for the job. Thank you for any suggestions you can offer.

Looks like a great accessory to it's bigger brother. I love my extreme sled. I dded a pair of eye bolts to mine and have a place to hang it on the wall which keeps it protected and ready for use. Bought the plans. Happy wood working

I wish I had seen this earlier. My projects are done on a DEWALT 7480 and it seems that I am always needing to down-size or otherwise tweak these projects. Most of these videos seem to assume that the viewer has a full-size tablesaw...or even a dedicated shop with all the bells and whistles. I hope if you continue to put out videos that you keep us shade-tree wood workers in mind. Thanks for a great video.

Edit: Two days later and my sled is done and my dresser project back on track. Thank you! I followed your design exactly, plexi included, and man that lock at the block is a real finger saver. I made a flimsy sled years ago and never felt comfortable using it. I know why now, it was the stupid blade coming out the back ready to snatch my fingers. Your design is supreme and gave me the tool and confidence I needed to make several dozen cross cuts. I can't thank you enough. I'm thankful I paid for my plans, you deserve the dough!

I too am a marine vet 75 fighting stage 4 cancer. I’m in my second year of monthly chemo treatments. I can’t find a discount code for the sled I want to build. I love the video but would just love to know the size of the sled. I have a new dewalt job site table saw that my son in law bought for me. I haven’t made anything with it, but everyone says I need to make a sled first, I cut a base board 24’x24” but I think that’s going to be too big and too heavy for me. Can someone tell me what size would be best to start with? I guess I don’t want it too big, and not too small, but easy to handle for this old man. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks. On my outfield table I have drilled 2 holes one for each cross cut sled and I just drop a wooden peg with a rubber chair foot on it as a stop. They are positioned so the saw blade will cut to its max without cutting through the rear guard. It may seem overkill but many of the people using the saw are into their 70's and 80's. I started using the stops when I noticed that both sleds had been cut right through the rear guards. All the best.
I really like the clear window to see the blade as it passes through the fence.
Here’s a suggestion: make that middle piece with the angle for better viewing longer. Have it extend to the edge of the table saw bed with a hook so the sled can’t more forward enough for the blade to exit the back of the sled.
