I’m impressed with how well your got round with a completely stock car! 👏🏻. Annoyingly the TT02’s do have a lot more slop than a TT01 out the box it can be sorted with a lot of shims though. My moneys on either of you two for the win 🏆
Great video Carl. Enjoyed the battles. I’ve definitely got loads of room for improvement! Thanks for the tips! Hopefully see you at MK in the next few weeks. Cheers Matt. 👍
Bought a TT02 last weekend, the Ford Mustang GT4 😎 It should arrive tomorrow 😄 Got some hopups as well, ball bearings of course, Tamiya oil shocks, alu drive shaft + the alu cups at both ends and the low friction balls for the front suspension… Also picked up a Tamiya tool set, so I have the proper fitting jis tools for assembly. Hopefully I’ll be able to drive it at a proper track some time.
Your car look very good on the track and your lines were very consistent. The TT02S is a completely different car. One of the features you can see in your video are the arms on the TT02S are more like the more expensive Tamiya road cars. The basic TT022 has a lot of slop in the front. I noticed when you compared slop in the front of the two cars, his servo saver was rock solid. Your servo arm or servo saver moved a lot. I have heard that some people add grease to the friction shock bodies to help the handling. I think your car will do very well. Good luck.
Nice to see the TT02 on the track, first hop ups I did on my Subaru WRX STI Nürburgring was bearings then did the following hop ups - TBLE-04S, Diff locker in the rear gearbox, Speed gearing, Suspension arm balls (low friction), the CVA's, Steering, CVD's, Prop shaft, 13.5t brushless sensored set up and just upgraded the steering servo to a AGFRC 24kg digital servo.
@PopalongRC handles really good plus I also added blue alloy rims, a cockpit and running Tamiya On-Road Hard Tuned Spring Set (Soft - Front/Medium- Rear).
You can see most of the steering slop is from the Tamiya servo saver. I expect you can't change it for the race but you can work on them to remove most of the slop.
Tamiya servo savers are useless for racing, while I've used Kimbrough savers for years if you want precision in a touring car there's nothing better than an Xray one even though it's blooming expensive!
@PopalongRC indeed , different arms , adjustable uppers , carbin composite dampner stays some aluminum, bearings etc the lot. Spot on chassis, locked diff up front and seems to enjoy the tracks.
Great to see the car so dialed out of the box ....Just goes to show how far you can take a "Stock" car without dumping money into hop ups ....like the box stock buggy your running... Have a good one 👍👍
if you are allowed to change that servo saver out for an aluminum servo horn that will help half of that slop in the front maybe more but rules might not allow for it in your club
I believe the one equipped with the best high-grip wheel with a motor proficient in low-speed corning and acceleration will win. Servo or transmitter won't be a problem because I don't think they will pick a bad one :P
Iv got 4 tt01s 2 tt02 ta01 ta02 and a tl01 I think the tamiya cars are just so versatile you can change what ever you whant like from rally chassis with a few mods or racing or just ripping round out side or 4w drift/power sliding or make it 2wd and make it I to a pretty good drifter well louds you can do 🤘
2:48 How much movement is there if the servo arm isn't moving? I only upgraded my steering with the two low friction screws and some cellotape around the screws where there was slop and it is a lot better now without spending a ton of money!
Just a qwiq one though if your thinking about upgrading shocks don't make my mistake buying different shocks from all different makes the best ones iv seen that work the best for these tamiya chassis is by far the ya racing shock up grades I wast so much money getting different ones and should of just got them from the get go 👍
If you slather the shafts of the "shock" bodies with Tamiya Anti-Wear Grease, it acts like a damping, and gets rid of nearly all of the bouncing. Remove the spacer on the shocks as well to give you some droop.
When you take price in to account like most have to that bog stock TT-02 combined with your driving did well to my amateur eyes, just a shame about the stock pogo stick shocks!
Are both of you running brushed setups in all the TT02’s you got, picked up a TT02r to replicate the Astra but wondering what electrics to put in it 👍🏻
Tt-02 S, with TRF416 suspension parts, is noticably better than the normal TT-02, should show up in lap consistency. The SR can almost hang with competition touring cars, so its quite decent. As long as you all run the same cars, without any odd modifications, I think the youtuber race should be epic, and could make for a fun tradition even. Stock cars are just as fun to race as the higher end cars, its more a question of do you want to race with just driving skills, or driving+tuning+pitcrew+money. I love the truck class because its simple and cheap. Try messing about with the shock angle options(even if they are few) might find a bit more favorable characteristics that way.
Dude, your channel, which I’m really not interested in keeps coming up cause u using kevin talbots name. Ummm.. I’m sure u enjoying the views you get by doing this but can u be original and not do it anymore.. be unique my friend. Just saying.. the fact that u also putting his face in the snapshot to attract more click bait shows u being intentional
I would never buy any kind of Tamiya for racing, they are simply not good enough compared to Xray, Awesomatix, Mugen ect ect, the Price ofc goes way up.
Anything is good enough for racing just as long as everyone is racing the same car and electrics👍 the issue with running high end cars is that it’s normally the person with the deepest pockets will take the win in most cases.
Grassroots club level stock racing. Love it. Needs to be more of it.
Totally agree

Let’s hope so
That’s if we don’t take each other out … we have done that before … hahaha
Great video Carl. Enjoyed the battles. I’ve definitely got loads of room for improvement! Thanks for the tips! Hopefully see you at MK in the next few weeks. Cheers Matt. 👍
Cheers Matt
See you on the track again soon
Lots of that steering slop is in the Tamiya box stock plastic servo saver. Thanks for the videos!
Cheers!
yeah not a lot we can do with that.
@@PopalongRCsuperglue it, makes it solid but will still break free upon heavy impact 👍

that is amazing, sounds like you are sorted. out the box it is not too bad to be fair.
Nice work. Really looking forward to the race.
We are too … should make the podium at least

Wow you went to town on it … how does it handle the 13.5
@PopalongRC handles really good plus I also added blue alloy rims, a cockpit and running Tamiya On-Road Hard Tuned Spring Set (Soft - Front/Medium- Rear).
You can see most of the steering slop is from the Tamiya servo saver. I expect you can't change it for the race but you can work on them to remove most of the slop.
Yeah I might stick a different servo in it and see if that helps… maybe the servo save took a knock and worn some teeth
Tamiya servo savers are useless for racing, while I've used Kimbrough savers for years if you want precision in a touring car there's nothing better than an Xray one even though it's blooming expensive!
I have an original '02 type s and race it often. Really enjoy it. Solid chassis , some great hop ups in the box !
Some of the SR I have seen look really nice long way from the stock tt02
@PopalongRC indeed , different arms , adjustable uppers , carbin composite dampner stays some aluminum, bearings etc the lot. Spot on chassis, locked diff up front and seems to enjoy the tracks.

I like the challenge of getting basic cards around a track
Looks like a great club to go racing with, I like the fact it's not expensive cars out on the track
if you are allowed to change that servo saver out for an aluminum servo horn that will help half of that slop in the front maybe more but rules might not allow for it in your club
Club level it will be fine but for the RUclips race is is out of the box build
I believe the one equipped with the best high-grip wheel with a motor proficient in low-speed corning and acceleration will win. Servo or transmitter won't be a problem because I don't think they will pick a bad one :P
Fortunately we all ran same tyres and motor so all good
@@PopalongRC it sounds fair and good! ;)

Love how versatile the TT cars are especially when you consider the TT02B as well
I would defo recommend an M07, so much fun and handles so well!!
It is on the shopping list…
2:48 How much movement is there if the servo arm isn't moving? I only upgraded my steering with the two low friction screws and some cellotape around the screws where there was slop and it is a lot better now without spending a ton of money!

Agreed
Although I have multiple which I could put on without having to buy any

That will only cost about £100 in AW grease …. Has to be one of the most expensive greases we have ever brought
@@PopalongRC Hehehe agreed!
You must be using contact adhesive on the tyres
Additive on rear only….
Who makes those colored shocks?
What has happened to the Carten FWD for the national?
I ran it at the last round and it was amazing… made the A final… it is one one our favourite cars. Such a pleasure to drive …
Nice video👍
Cheers Qrisem

There is a simple fix which I will explore after the RUclips race
Are both of you running brushed setups in all the TT02’s you got, picked up a TT02r to replicate the Astra but wondering what electrics to put in it 👍🏻
Totally stock mate, I’m not sure that putting a fast brushless system in this car will be any benefit to be honest. Maybe a 21.5
Tt-02 S, with TRF416 suspension parts, is noticably better than the normal TT-02, should show up in lap consistency. The SR can almost hang with competition touring cars, so its quite decent.

they do run a lot smoother and depending on the track they can hang with the faster chassis
Im surprised Kevin didn't go full send a d launch it off of a 12 foot ramp.
Maybe at the next RUclips race
change the servo saver with an aluminium Horn, its much better.
You have them go against the r version srx version.
just a practice run. our main race will be all stock
looks like most of the steering slop comes from your servo
Yeah I might change the servo .. it is too loose for my liking
Wasn't Gavin here not too long ago?
dont think Gavin has been to this club,,, he has been invited so maybe we can get him there soon.
Just Subscribed at least you practiced.
Cheers for the sub
Enjoy the channel
You know I hate to say it … so I won’t 😁😂🍻🍻🍻
Ok
