    This is a great format Because this will make the method of "Buy a combat patrol and build up from there" way easier since they'll be way more incentivized to include staple units and coherent 500 point lists for each faction now.

    I think Combat Patrol games are a great way into 10th edition and I have to be honest and confess that I never have the time for a big 40k game so the idea of a quick and dirty game in a more controlled and balanced format sounds great to me...

    Feels like a logical step really, the problem with the Get Started boxes were that they couldn't even be fielded as a legal Detachment in 8th or 9th edition. So people got those boxes, such as the CSM box with a Helbrute, 10 marines and 1 terminator lord/sorcerer but then needed to spend even more money to actually play the game.
    Whenever I've introduced a new player to the hobby I have tried to make a fun and balanced list for them because trying to get someone new to understand the Detachment making rules and then handle the counting of points and equipment loadouts etc is a complete mess for someone not already into this hobby. So this format would suit that same purpose, pick up, paint , play. You're done. And if you would like grander battles, pay more to buy more models and codex and learn how to customize your own army.

    Why not?
    Well, I like Sisters, but I hate hate hate arco flagellants and penitent engines. They're frankly gross. So why would I spend good money on models that I will never even build or paint, much less use in a game?
    I love the idea of one-box factions, but I think they are really missing out on flexibility, because its strength is also its weakness, lack of customization.

    Ummm. What I’d love to know from GW, is.... are the current version of the Combat Patrol boxes going to be the Ongoing combat patrols? If someone already ran out and bought the current Space Marines or Tyranid combat patrol box prior to this recent announcement of 10th ed based versions of these sets, have they made a tactical error? And, as new codexes drop, will the Combat Patrols be updated? This just feels ultra sketchy to me. The Death Guard Combat Patrol box was designed to support a very specific 9th ed DG army build that focused on Typhus buffing Poxwalkers and deep striking terminators.

    I'm looking at Combat Patrol as a step up from KT to use some of the bigger units. This being its own format and being smaller makes it easier to find the time for a game in a busy schedule. Combat Patrol does give me the option of getting a couple of patrols for different factions to play with which what I like in KT as well.

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  Год назад +2

      The only thing I can really say in its defence is that it can, in the right mindset, make the game feel more like strategically moving your army in a grand strategy sort of way, instead of the skirmish way. Which is kind of cool! Also, if you're playing it casually, then having some time to chill out between turns is pretty cool!

    I wasnt expecting a 5 man inferno squad unit for the SM box. Seems odd to have a half unit like that when you had a perfectly suitable 5 man unit with the Sternguard Vets. I cant imagine 5 flamer boys will have much of an impact considering their movement speed and the short range on their flamers. Everything else is fine though! About what I expected for a combat patrol. With this confirmed then, that means no Termies of any kind in the starter sets to keep this box selling. Sternguard will be in the elite edition starter set as the more elite unit followed by a 5 man inferno squad. The recruit will be just a 5 man inferno squad. The only thing now is what HQ is more premium, the Phobos Lt. or Apothecary to put in each set

    Here's some food for thought. While we do have boxes now called "Combat Patrol" boxes... Obviously anyone who has the space marine or Tyranid boxes that currently exist are going to have to buy the new boxes ... They say they have balanced all the combat patrol boxes with each other... It almost sounds like they are talking about NEW combat patrol boxes. I have a feeling that all the current combat patrol boxes are going to be superceded by new ones. And the new combat patrol rules are ONLY going to apply to the NEW combat patrol boxes that we haven't heard about yet?

    Combat Patrol is an absolute downgrade from Kill Team. You get less units compared to Kill Team, where you get 10-11 per box and can use AT LEAST 6 of that in a single game. Combat patrols get you 4-5 units, so you have a lot less options during the game. You also get less options in equipping those units and using CP. Also, when you want to move a unit, you have to move 5-10 models. If you want to attack with a unit, you have to attack 5-10 times. Kill Team allows you to make a lot more decisions (which in my book is the actual "playing the game") while allowing you to spend less time executing the mechanics, which is the boring part.
