I really hope Age of Sigmar gets the Combat Patrol treatment. I love the idea of "buy a box and go" vs list building for small quick games.
Isn't that what Vanguard was supposed to be?
Dude, we have had that with the Start Collecting sets. That's how a lot of people got into AoS at my local gaming store.
It's the Vanguard and new Dawnbringer boxes
@@CesarIsaacPerez nah, not really.
Yes in theory they could be good starting forces that you can use in a game.
In reality they're just an excuse for GW to throw whatever isn't selling enough and ship it that way at a discount.
For Vanguard / Combat Patrol to really work all forces should (a) fit the faction and (b) have a viable force that represents that specific faction
The simple fact that GW had to tweak both the profiles as well as the rules to make Combat Patrols work at all is enough.
Meanwhile the Ambush starter sets for Kings of War ... they just work.
Even the rules aren't much more than basically not allowing high power units into the game. No faction-specific limits like we see in 40k variant.
@@NotTheStinkyCheese Oh at my local store we had a lot of fun and played a lot of games that where just Star Collecting sets, got a bunch of new player converts. Nothing competitive, but a bunch of fun.
A video for newbies on how to get into wargaming and alternative systems to the Leviathan in the house would be much appreciated. 160 USD go a long way in certain game systems. No need to drop them on just a handful of minis.
Grimdark Future by One Page Rules.
Mechwarrior
Stargrave is a great option, too. You buy the rulebook, pick whatever minis and terrain you think are cool (it's miniature agnostic), and go. It can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it. I've even seen people play it with LEGO minifigs!
Kings of War (recently had another new starterset), Deadzone, Firefight ... not only cheaper, but they feel like complete games compared to 40k.
And of course the One Page Rule stuff, although that's digital only.
Stargrave (and Zona Alpha and 5 Parsecs and others) could work too, but they require a bit more work for those new to the hobby.
@@werolldice1877 One friend with a 3d printer goes a long way. Not even has the space or wants to get into 3d printing as a hobby. But i'm happy to subsidize that with bottles of resin if it means I get cheaper minis. Resin printers these days can give you crazy good detail. You don't even have to do OPR's minis but the steep discount on the files with the patreon subscription makes it pretty cheap to get files to share with your buddies with printers. Resin cost wise each infantry sized 28mm scale mini cost maybe 15 cents, bigger guys with multiple parts may get into the $5 range. The biggest minis ( titans? ) might go through a whole bottle if you need to reprint some parts. Also , OPR is just a fun system that is quicker to play and allows you to be more casually into wargaming.
I think this was a very good, fair take, thanks! I'm especially appreciative you pointed out the three "Lost Patrols" and I do think it would be very good of them to put out lists for them. Especially the Space Marine Phobos box would be fun, great at getting to objectives, killing things not so much.
Bricky had a good video on this the other day, its a classic 80/20 issue - 80% of the player base this game will suit very well, and if the intent was faster, fun and more accessible. The 20% are typically competitive players, who have some legitimate concerns with the rules/lists - the issue is they are also the most vocal online, and wont speak to the experience of all the players. Hopefully GW is doing some more sampling of sentiment to get less vocal opinions.
For the mission release delay, very comvinced that was the engagement strategy to keep the release 'window' open for longer by having a longer publishing cycle to keep blogs/videos/tweets talking about releases over a longer time period, as this is 'the farm' for GW for the next few years.
Really, 80/20 is probably overshooting it significantly.
MWG did a poll a few months ago, it got more votes than a lot of the 9e "tactics/tactical" channels get video views. their poll produced a 91/9 split, with 45% being completely disinterested in competition play.
@@TalbotAlligator Most competitive players I know wouldn't watch MWG, their Battle Reports are boring to them. (Please not I'm not saying anything disparaging to MWG here). Most competitive players I know only watch tactics channels on occasion, maybe when there's a tier list or something. To them there's no new information there, it's just waxing lyrical about stuff they already know.
I think this could be it, but I'm also not a competitive player, and take some issue with how the units are built in the chaos box 😅
Why not have a competitive set of rules ? Different from narrative and combat patrol.
These competitive rules can be the rules that get tweaked or experimental rules released and these rules could then be filtered down to the other play styles if they become major improvements.
That would let those of us who just want to play do that without having an IV drip of rules info on 24 hr cycle. Let's those nut jobs who just love rules and the super technical side have their way and even possibly influence changes. They are the ones playing more games than the games testers lol.
In all seriousness, I dont know why your day was so hard, but here's an internet hug in the hopes it helps you feel better.
And in case Ross's i-hug isn't enough, here is another one from me!
I'll second that. Hang in there, my friend.
It’s just gotten started.
I’ll get in line for a hug!
Not much of a hugger, but I'll pat your shoulder in a distracted fatherly way :) Stay safe and look after yourself :)
(Raises hand) Yes that was me, I went out and bought a Space Marines Combat Patrol box from my flgs and started to build them. And like you said to only find out shortly after building that they don't get free rules. As someone who has been looking for a way to get into 40k I was so excited about this, and now I feel burned. Would it have been that hard to announce which boxes were getting free rules???? A box here in Canada costs $190 + taxes.
It's lame, I'm in a similar position. I can tell you it's a good selection of models, at least, that look better in 10th than 9th.
I’d also suggest that whoever you are playing combat patrol with would absolutely let you run that box of units instead. If it’s more than like 500 points maybe tone it down but the rules still mostly work.
I did the same lol 150+ taxes for playing combat patrol and now I can't lol
You should make a video every month about getting into war gaming. There are endless 'WARHAMMER alternatives'. I built an SOB Combat Patrol, and want to build my collection and paint for this Edition. Great news about the NECRON COMBAT PATROL! I can start playing, as I have those models battle ready! I would be willing to buy a mission/more army lists Book for Combat Patrol.
Combat patrol is for people like me who have never played before and don’t need to worry about every option under the Sun. This give me the ability to focus on the rules and learn the game FIRST without having to worry about lost building or war gear options
I would like to know what you think the best way to get into war gaming is!
Also, combat patrol got me interested in Warhammer 40k again. I bought a bunch of models but having to put together 2k points is intimidating. I'm not ready to play huge games so this is perfect for me!
Well the best way would be to start with one unit that you like the most. Not by the rules but just the looks. Try to build and paint them, see if you like it.
Than I usually would get a second box and maybe lure around the LGS and watch other people play. See if I enjoy that game, ask them questions. Get the rule book and codex (these are free right now so you can just download them) maybe look up the lore for the faction to see if it fits ypur style. Than start really small. Maybe 100-500 points. No special rules, no stratagems, no special equipment. Just dice and measurment and slowly grow into the game.
Our local gamenstore had a beginners league. Where every month you'd have to play 2 games and every month the army size would be increased from 750, to 1250 to 1750. You can only add new units but not replace them. That was angreat motivation to paint more minis and get them battleready.
Maybe aim for a 1000 point army first - it should be half the size. Thanks for watching!
Hey bud welcome man. Id recomend even if your blessed to have all the money. Try to build / paint one then "treat" yourself to another set. People talk about "pile of shame" unfishned mini dont worry about that and buying them slowing you see how they play out. Rule of cool. If your army is not the tuffest no problem rules change every few years and stuff.
500point boarding patrols are a fun follow up to combat patrol, But it has list building. And love that killteam terrain
There is actually a big advantage to not being able to change list in Combat patrol, In Magic the Gathering preconstructed decks for beginners include some bad cards to help new players identify bad cards so they can build better decks in the future. I would think that combat patrol is designed in a similar way.
Yeah when I have seen hate towards loadouts etc for combat patrol, I have tried to point out it is "structure decks" for 40k... it isn't meant to teach tournament 40k just to show a few cool things an army can do and be easy to get into.
Wait, you are actually defending the inclusion of bad cards in a pregen as being there to intentionally teach and not to prevent the decks from being better bargains? That is some really tasty coolaid you got there.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Uncle Atom. I hope your day/week improves. For me, I'm planning to play Necrons and CSM in combat patrol. Im not going to buy either box though since I've already got the models to make up each of them.
Sorry to hear you had a challenging day dude. I hope that got easier.
A video on the best way to get into war gaming would be great.
Also, it has been very interesting to see your journey over the last few years. Thanks for sharing that.
Also, also, happy birthday (next week).
would ADORE a vid on getting into wargaming outside of Warhammer, i try to get my friends into models and painting but im the wierd one who likes painting most so a primer on how to get into the other part of the hobby would be great!
Uncle Atom, your opinion will ALWAYS matter to me, and the vast majority of folks who watch your videos. Even though you'd had a rotten day, you still managed to make a video that was both interesting and engaging. Whatever you decide to talk about in your videos is fine by me: I'll gladly watch/listen to them all!
Great points all round. I'm loving the fact that if I want to try out a 40K army for minimal cost / effort Combat Patrol has that covered. Also I only get to play week nights so the fact I can fit in a few games of this is also a bonus. All this with free rules and data sheets, whats not to like.
I'll go one further and say it would be great to have them included in the box with even some options to expand the box to 1000+ points for new players.
Hope the rest of your day went better ;).
I am teacher and professional public speaker and there are plenty of days where "things just don't go well." Thank you for pushing through, anyway. Keep in mind that your listeners/viewers like YOU because of YOU. So lighting and sound issues are very secondary. We really appreciate your videos and this one was no exception. Keep it up, Battle Brother. Yes....Blood Angels....Oh yeah.
It would be great to have Rules for the old Necron Combat Patrol, but i think the problem is just that the Flyer wouldnt really work for the combat patrol mode
That was always a weird combat patrol. I think it was always intended as an Indomitus/Elite edition add on.
They could have made it work, it's fine that they changed it, but at minimum they should have given a heads up before they released the system, because people did buy things for it
I think saying hey, you can't use the flyer is a better solution than hey, you can't use this box.
Thank you for your videos, and I hope tomorrow is better. I've been a hobbyist and lore-bunny until now but the limited format finally has me interested in playing 40k.
As someone who enjoys painting but hasn't actually played any wargames yet I like the precon nature of combat patrol, are there any other games with relatively balanced premade lists to start playing with? I've been printing and painting onepagerules and they've now added an option to autogenerate armies in armyforge for both their big games and skirmish games so I'm currently building up a couple of warbands for GFF, has anyone played around with these lists and could recommed whether they make for fun games?
Yes, would very much like a video about entering the hobby. I found the hobby again during the pandemic, and got a group through Onepagerules and social media. That was our way back in, but we already had the models
"I'm a conspiracy theorist sometimes."

Checks out.
Great video! I like hearing your thoughts on Combat Patrol. Hope your day's troubles were nothing too major and it gets better for ya man! As someone still pretty new to it I'd be interested in watching a video on your thoughts on intros into war gaming.
Good morning! I hope whatever has put some chaos in your life is resolved in a way that is good for you and yours.
Despite the setbacks today, you nailed yet another banger! Always happy with your content. Hope your day got better. Thanks again for your perseverance and dedication. :)
Well for me, it's working as designed. I've never played 40k..but this new CP version hooked me in. I'm building n painting a Grey Knights cp right now.. I had a strike squad box, so I'm already list building towards 1500pts cuz why not, I got 1000 now? Was leery of the delayed mission release but it got here.. and I ordered the core book 'to have' anyways. Seems like success from the GW side.
The new boxes will probably be different detachments, as well. Like a Bloody Rose box for the Sisters (Oops all Repentia kind of thing) Speed Freak box of Orks, etc. different flavors of the armies.
Here' hoping that the rest of your week goes better! Thanks for always being honest and motivating. See you next week!
I particularly like the videos where you tackle something more esoteric (relative to painting minis), these subjects aren't easy to rationalise for an audience but you always get there.
Watching this I wondered if you had ever reviewed Midwinter Minis and his Start Building tournament. Basically he bought all the Start Building boxes and ran videos on building and painting. He then started a knock out tournament where in, each battle offset two of the box sets with the winner going onto the next round. It was interesting as it would appear that those sets were more closely matched than you might think with tactics and a bit of interference from the dice gods made more of a difference than the differences in kit. It would be interesting to see this happen with the Combat Patrol boxes, but that might be an expensive project. An interesting side note was the differing methods Guy used to paint up the sets.
Good video. I might pick up a box in the future for this. Lately I have been caught in option paralysis with the old world. So it might be refreshing just being told what my list is.
As a long time watcher of all the tabletop youtube videos I would like a video on where to start. Going to look at the combat patrol stuff now, thanks. Maybe some commitment therapy as well.
I'm pretty keen to get on with combat patrol. My buddy is a single dad with next to no free time so combat patrol suits him down to the ground, and we're looking into trying to get some games in with the new edition.
Great video once again, I'd be keen to see a video on the easiest way to get into war gaming that doesn't necessarily focus on warhammer.
Any skirmish game, infinity for exemple. GW skirmish game, warcry and killteam.
Agnostic games are great as well. Uncle atom made two games and I can recommend frostgrave and stargrave.
The best way to get into wargaming video sounds great. Skirmish vs Army. 3D print vs purchase. Indie vs the mainstream. The topic seems like you could make it a series and use it as an excuse to talk again about some topics that you may have changed opinion about or that are just in a different place than they used to be.
I think they said in some of the livestreams that there will be a new combat patrol with each new codex release.
For Knights I think 2-4 Armigers would be a nice list, maybe toughness/wounds need to be adjusted 😃
Oh that’s interesting. I know that each codex release would come with a couple new models in general, then releasing new combat patrols too would be pretty nifty.
Thanks for another great video, and happy birthday!!
Always a pleasure to listen to your perspective.
Yes, I think a vid concerning getting into wargamming vs 40k would be an awesome resource for new players. Cheers!
Sorry that it was a rough day, lots of those going around. I am unsure how I feel about Combat Patrol but I hope it works out for the best. Because of work and...mood I haven't been able to play or paint anything even related to tabletop or 40k so I hope that changes sooner than later. Happy early birthday! Also hoping to read more through Majestic.
Hope your day goes better! You’re spot on with Combat Patrol. I love it. I’m not a big list builder, but the original Kill Team got me into 40K. I loved looking at the possible models I could buy and add. That’s missing with new KT. I do wish Combat Patrol would allow players to use different options in the box. New players might be freaked out, if they play Eldar, to have sprues of Storm Guardian swords, pistols, and heads that they have no way to use. A bit of flexibility with the box could help. I know I have a Wraithlord with the “wrong” shoulder gun. Two more lines of print could avoid that. Thanks for the video! Hope your day gets a lot better.
As someone who has no interest in large games of 40k that take half a day to play, as well as someone who doesn't have a 6x4 table just laying around (and also won't be buying one with the express purpose of playing a miniature game), Combat Patrol is just what I wanted. I already have the Imperial Guard one and have picked up a Doomstalker so I have the contents of the Necron one. I also plan on picking up the ones from Leviathan when I get my current ones painted up (I'm assuming most if not all the minis in them will be the in the new starter sets). That's more 40k minis than I have bought in years. Just having an option where my buddy and I can sit down, put some minis on a reasonably sized table and play a game in about hour is a world of difference.
I feel like I might even do some list building and play some 750 point games by adding one more board to the combat patrol board and adjusting the incursion objective placement/ deployment sizes accordingly.
Really helpful, thanks. I have some stuff I got for Kill Team 2018 and I've downloaded the 10th ed free stuff out of curiosity. I tend to play skirmish sci-fi, so Combat Patrol might be a way forward for me. I also built a box of Grey Knight Paladins for Kill Team and have a strike squad on the shame pile, so I'm very interested in them. Of course, I can slot it around my OPR requirements as well, which is a bonus. Cheers for sharing your thoughts.
awesome video :) i love that the stuff you talk about, always seems to be some topics that i think about in my head :D and yes please make the video about getting into wargaming, i only tried Warhammer Age of Sigmar and 40k so im pretty interested in other stuff than games workshop.
I think it would be neat if there were more themed Combat patrol boxes, or if there was even a way to use the Boarding Patrol boxes in the same system, even if theyre not that balanced against each other.
THIS. I really wish they were better planned out rather than 'we have a surplus of this in stock, take it!'
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, hope your day got better. And early happy birthday.
Great video and review about the Combat Patrol thingy! Yes I would really like to see a video from you, how to get into Wargaming at all! So please do it! :D
An Inquisition Combat Patrol would use the Breachers, Cops, and Kasrkin, so that would be great, maybe the Ashes of Faith as a combat patrol.
Would actually really enjoy a video on good entry points to war gaming compared to combat patrol. Even compared to other games such as shatterpoint etc.
Really enjoyed this one. I would love your "how to get into..." video, but hey, I just love your videos.
Haven't played since 6th myself but loved putting leviathan together. I enjoy your content and dulcet tones. Subscribed!
Sounds good to me. I'm trying to get a couple of games done with my Necrons and sisters! Hope you're day got better!
Thanks 😊 fun as always and your opinions do matter to us ❤ hope your day got better 🙂
Yes, please do a video about good entry games to get into wargaming. Got a couple of buddies I’m working on and that would be appreciated. Thanks for the vids!
i don't use to write comments, but seen you in such a mood motivates me to write you to say : thanks! for everything and for all your videos, guides, and specially efforts to build and improve that community. I'm really interested in watching your takes, and there's not so many people with your veteran age (sorry) that i anjoy hear talking.
So, i wish you that your days improve and hope to watch more content from you if you are ok with doing that :)
PS: sorry for my rusty english, not my first language! Hugs from Barcelona!!
I appreciate your comment, and your English is much better than my Spanish. Thanks for watching!
This was a good video. I got into 40k back in the "Rogue Trader" days (dating myself slightly). I really enjoy the lore and the game world. I dropped out several times, life and then skirmish games are easier to play than the scale of 40k. But, this looks very interesting, if I'm honest with myself. I like the idea of buying a box and playing that box, even though I haven't played since 7th edition. I'd love to see a video on "what's the best way to get into wargaming". That sounds like a cool topic to discuss.
14:11 IT WAS ME, I BOUGHT A BOX OF THE NECRONS 😢
I was so excited to finish painting my funny space croissant and friends and then when all the datasheets got released, lo and behold, none of the units were even in there.
I was lucky to have split Indomitus back when it came out. Still miffed tho, I WISH THEY AT LEAST ANNOUNCED IT BEFOREHAND.
Aside from that, I did also buy Deathwatch and I'm excited to play some Combat Patrol today with a friend who bought his T'au box.
Missed opportunity for them to make a Combat Patrol for Agents of the Imperium. The Navy and Inquisition aren't meant for full-sized play, but 500pt Combat Patrol is just their size (for all that they lack a vehicle centerpiece).
I've played a lot of Boarding Actions and have enjoyed running my Agents in that format, so it would be nice to see them here too.
I am stoked that they released the combat patrol rules for free. I've always thought it was weird to paywall your list building info. It made getting into 9th edition hard.
Nice video.. now i'm looking even more forward to trying combat patrol..
Thanks for the video. Local store is doing a combat patrol league for 10th. Everyone picked up their boxes 2 months ago. Two guys got left out in the cold.😢
Thank for your 2 cents worth, always appreciated (even here on the little island where everything is in ££). I always follow the rule of cool, and ignore most promotions / new things, unless there's a super cool model. But it's also great to see that GW seem to be implementing ALL the ideas you had for making 40K better. (How about that?) Also, everybody has days like that, kudos for doing a video anyway!
Didn't even know combat patrol was a separate game. Nice to know, would make it easier for beginners. I've never played a game and I've been collecting for years. Seems like it's a new rendition of the easy mode, using power points etc.
It uses the same core rules as regular 40k, but the data sheets for the models (the stats) are different in Combat Patrol than in regular 40k. Not wildly different, but still a bit different. Thanks for watching!
@tabletopminions Thanks for your response, Uncle Atom. Hopefully, this will have a positive effect on newer players.
It's basically the same game with a couple minor tweaks.
@ajaxtaur could you summarise what the effect those changes might have on the game, if any other than changing the power levels of models
GW doesn't do a good job of stating it, but the Leviathan Launch is like a pre-release of 10th. It's for everyone who wants in early, which is a lot of ppl. I was worried about the combat patrol missions being locked to the Leviathan book, but I'm glad they're finally here. We also just saw that the first big balance is coming in July, which to me says after that 10th edition if officially in the wild.
As for a Imperial/Chaos Knights Combat Patrol: I'd love to see 3 Armigers, ideally with both weapon loadouts and with a chaos upgrade sprue. The reason being 3 Armigers can be taken as Freeblades and will be a nice box for people who want to do that instead of buying 2 of the boxes which come with two Armigers.
I'm very excited to get my combat patrols on the table and I'm glad you're having a good time with it!
Thanks for the video, and I hope things get better soon! Also, I'd love to see the "getting started with wargaming" video that you mentioned. 😊
There is no way you can reasonably proxy the Reanimator as a Doomstalker - that thing is quite a bit taller, and two base sizes up!
blue tac a spare overlord on top and the base shouldnt matter that much
Monster energy drink can on a 100mm cardboard disc. Proxy sorted. It's even the lore appropriate colours.
And with some extra modelling and the correct pie-dish base size, you absolutely can proxy it, as I will be doing myself.
@@briochepanda Im using an armiger as a ghostkeel so my friend can play tau, its using "camouflage projection"
Happy birthday!! 🎉
7:00 yes, I'd love to see a video like that, beginner's guide to war gaming.
Another great video. Thanks for inspiring me to play TTWGs.
I really like your color scheme and how you painted the captain from leviathan.
Thanks for the video. I hope they make more combat patrol lists, namely something with Indomitus Marines to mirror the new Necron list, using the sword boys, bikers, etc. since a lot of players have those models, anyone that has Indomitus/9E starter has 2 ComPats ready to demo for their curious friends.
I'm so glad they did this because I've been wanting to play, but I got no one who's also invested, so I would have to get 2 armies. It's so much simpler and cheaper to just pick up 2 of these boxes and lend one to a friend. My favorite armies that I would have fight are Orks and Sisters of Battle.
The new 10th got me again interested in 40k, and I was really looking foward for the Combat Patrol rules. Nevertheless I got dissapointed with the pre-build armies. I like to build my troops my way 😅. Still, and as I am no tournament player, I am really enjoing the new rules and still playing just to 500pts
One point about the best way to get into war gaming is that you should probably take into account what is popular in your area. If combat patrol is what people are playing then you will be able to find people to play against. If you find a cheaper game but no one around is playing that would be hard to get into. So it helps to try and find out what game system people are playing in the LFGs around you
I'd love to see a video about the best ways to get into miniature wargaming.
Also, happy birthday Adam!
Happy Birthday!
That oops all termagaunts line killed me lmao
You may have had a bad day, but every time I watch one of your videos mine gets a bit better. Thanks Uncle Atom.
I'm really happy that you are coming back to 40k, it's my favorite wargame and 10th edition seems really fun!
Anyways i would be really interested in a video about wargames like you said in 7:03
I agree with your General thoughts. GW did a good Job Here To get more people interested in the Hobby..at least that counts for me. 40k was Always a Bit overwhelming in the past...but now. Buy a Box, Paint it and get started. Thats What i will BE Doing To give it an honest try.
Nerdbunker looks cool. N happy birthday.
This helped solidify my wavering on whether I should start building my Ork Combat Patrol box and take a whack at 10th edition. Thank you, sir.
A Happy Advace Birthday, Uncle Atom. Hopefully today will be better than yesterday.
I'm still putting my Leviathan box together, but I'm getting back into 40k with 10th and excited to try combat patrol. I was hopeful that they would have multiple combat patrol lists: like a list for the Space marines in the leviathan box, as well as one for the old SM combat patrol box. I figured they could do the same for tyrannids and was disappointed not to see that. Like, I I want to play combat patrol but I'd like to use the dreadnought that came with leviathan.... still enjoying things though!
I still think, with the right effort, Combat Patrol would be my ideal competitive format. Much Like Kill Team, the lack of choice in list building means the balance could easily be there in a way that skewed listbuilding rarely does. If the devs or the gaming community care enough of course.
40k should be combat patrol in primis, with tons of different strange faction and dedicated box. Imperial guard is the perfect example for that, but also small new faction. They are quick, fun, indeed a very good idea for modern time.
Happy birthday!
I've played a variety of combat patrols and have found that the balance is surprisingly good. Death Guard are actually good in combat patrol. Overall I found the Dark Angels one to be the most challenging to play against due to there being a dreadnought and very few combat patrols have enough anti-armour to counter it
My stomach feeling is that we will see new combat patrols with most or all codexes this edition.
Even GW hinted that DA will get new stuff and Belial got heavily wounded etc. Maybe the next box will contain new Deathwing and a few Redeemed in a force similar to new SM box?
Maybe a terminator chaplain instead of the psyker as an example... 🤔
I got absolutely wiped out by Tau with my Death Guard patrol but I deployed poorly and no answer to the battlesuits once my Marines died, they could just fly up a building and shoot all game. It does feel weird that Typhus has no psychic attack in combat patrol but does in the index.
@@AndyPaintsPoorlythe only suit that t'au have in the combat patrol box is the ghost keel so there shouldn't be any battlesuit murder blobs in combat patrol games.
@@ergonamix9977 the stealth suits I meant aswell all that marker light ignoring my cover was just savage in general. Fire warriors blasting away with the fireblade was very effective
Death Guard are actually good (not great) in regular 40k, too. It's just complaints about not having an arbitrary FNP that spiraled out of control.
i bought a box of the orks to try to get into the war gaming thingy. So more ways to get into war gaming would be nice.
Nice video as always.
Hope your week gets better
And, yes. A video about getting into wargames would be nice.
Happy Birthday, old man!
If you can still find the 9th edition Warhammer 40,000 Elite Edition box set, it has the Necron Combat Patrol minus the Doomstalker. I've seen it online for $85 and doomstalker for $42.50 so you could put the Necron CP together for under $130 and you get some Space Marines as well which if you could sell would bring the price down even more. The Necron CP looks like it is Overlord, 10 Necron warriors, 3 Skorpekh Destoyers + Plasmacyte, 3 Scarabs and Doomstalker (pg. 184 in 10th ed book)
thanks for all the videos man, it helps.
Another interesting and enjoyable video, thank you. I would be very interested in what you had to say about better / cheaper / faster ways to get into tabletop wargaming, please. Hopefully it won't accidentally compel me to get into another game system....!
I plan on tweaking my own lists to play combat patrol with friends using models we have. Doesn't have to be balanced if it's casual and might actually be funnier if something unexpectedly ends up steamrolling the other army.
I had a thought about the Necron Combat Patrols. If a person is ok with Proxi, the old has an Overlord, the Immortals could be run as Warriors, the tomb blades as the Skorpek destroyers, and the Scythe as the Doom Stalker. The only model missing is the little guy that the follows the destroyers, so a token could be used. It’s not perfect, but it could work.
I have four combat patrols; Ulthwe, Harlequins, Knights(Armigers) and Tyranids.
Not one of them is compatible with 10th edition unless I boost all four to 1K points. I would also need to increase the size of my table space to accomodate the extra models for such games. In addition to stretching those armies to 1K points, a player also needs additional models for a roster of options between games, so really its expecting players to grow to 1500 point rosters.
Until now, players of all game sizes were welcome. Now they're forcing us to buy large armies whether we want them or not, or their specific Combat Patrol boxes and patrols they have decided for us. Oh, and these free index rules will not last in the long term as the codices will shortly begin phasing those rules out.
So, the "Warhammer Hobby" that once encouraged us to collect the models and factions we were interested in( Harlequins and Knights are not even included in 10th edition combat patrol! ), has resorted to bland lists we cannot deviate from.
I've already quit Kill Team for Stargrave and now I'll be quiting 40K for Xenos Rampant.
Belated Happy Birthday.🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'd like to see you do a video showing you how to get entry into wargamming. The Warhammer hobby is not the only way.
😊😊😊😊
Great video. Even in full 40K you can’t really list build. Units cost what units cost, no opportunity to save 5 points by dropping a plasma pistol etc
I've been super pumped over the changes to list building in full 40k as well, and it's been very confusing to watch people online freak out about the lack of point values attached to wargear. Yes, I understand that this means that not all setups are created equal, but that's always been the case. And now, the meta is no longer to run bizarrely small units of guys who may as well be naked for all that you don't give them, with maybe a particular gun. Their job is to suicide into something or stand on a point and do nothing. Now, you get to take full squads of fully kitted out guys and gals and actually use all their cool toys.
I'm no longer in the wrong for wanting to build my models with cool wargear options instead of trying to minimize their point values. It's fantastic!
I’m excited about getting into Combat Patrol, I would like to collect several of them.
Yeah, I'd be interesting in your take on getting into wargaming. I have a friend who I am trying to get into this stuff and my move is warcry because I think its rules are the best for somebody just coming from boardgames.
