I’m only like 15 minutes into this video, but the fictional parasocial relationship thing got me thinking about myself. My designated Disney princess growing up was Ariel, and the Acotar character I identify with and love most is Lucien. There’s something about misunderstood, unnaturally redheaded outcasts with both mommy and daddy issues, too many siblings, that weird dependency they have on the one person who showed them kindness to save them, and the world’s most unfortunate love life that just really draws me in. I’m having some sort of crisis now lmao
Shallon, thank you, finally, someone who is a Tamlin apologist like me! I became that way even more so as the series went on. But at the end of the day, my favorite character is Lucien!
Seeing so many Tamlin apologists makes me feel better. I know when I told the girl who recommended me the book that I kind of like him, she was borderline mad. I couldn’t explain to her all this. Also if Feyra was acting like Rhys, she could’ve got EVERYTHING and more, and now she has to share with Rhys and his family the night court. Another thing Rhys and Tamlin did was to absolutely exclude her from her family. This is also another great topic, when you’re left with no ground to stay on, and no blood to protect you. I am loving this series, I want more book analysis ❤️❤️❤️

Your anecdote about your obsession with Sleeping Beauty made me realize why I've clung to Tangled since I was 12. I spent a lot of time alone at my aunt's house as a kid because my parents had to work or go to school. I have a million hobbies. And though my aunt isn't abusive like Gothel, she's bossy and our close relationship makes it hard for me to set boundaries. She's also why I got a relaxer at 5 👀 Maybe I should bring this up in therapy. 😶
It really is so fascinating why we imprint on these books and characters the way that we do! I just finished the series yesterday and girl you are in for a RIDE! I’m still processing it but I’m excited to unpack why I reacted in certain ways to certain characters and events. I finished all the books last year, but I honestly still have such a soft spot for Feyre 🥺 I always think about how she struggled identifying unconditional love because she never experienced/was shown it but she still gave it to those she knew. Plus I always think about how Sarah mentioned Feyre and Rhys are modeled after her and her her husband, so I reckon she's written a lot of her own personal feelings. I will say Shallon, I can't wait for you to finish this series. You would love Crescent City, especiallty Bryce's character so so much!!
Definitely you should do Twilight.it's even more toxic...married with children with the toxic sweetheart/hurtlocker direct after school, a person with no drive and not knowing who thry are😂🎉cheers

Shallon I NEED the color formula for “sleeping beauty blonde.” I’ve been calling it butterscotch blonde in my mind. Such a gorgeous golden color. Is your colorist willing to share this info???
I think the book did Tamlin dirty big time. I finished the second book last night, so like you, I can only go by the information at hand. I'm a military wife who's witnessed individuals suffering with PTSD and, the way the author focused only on Feyre's struggles whilst Tamlin also was fighting his demons, BUT was expected to fix her at the same time, just infuriated me. They also made such a huge deal of him "locking her up" that one day. It's not like he did it all the time. At this point Feyre didn't have the powers (that she gained later on in the second book), she was PTSD'd to the max and guess what; ....he loves her and didn't want her to get harmed. My husband is an infantry soldier and once told me the reasons why he doesn't agree with having women fighting in wars. He said it's bad enough when you see your male colleagues/friends getting their limps blown off or being shot at. To him, the idea of having to witness this happening to females is unbearable, regardless of them being soldiers too. Males are protective, it's in their nature. So imagine me as his wife demanding to come along? He wouldn't do a Rhy, and be like: "It's up to you! You decide for yourself!"....Tf 😂....Like this is how I looked at that situation, but people are dragging Tamlin SO hard for doing that to her. He also is under the impression (just like most of Prythian) that Rhy is a sadistic c*nt that can manipulate people's minds, so why is it so surprising that he doesn't get why Feyre suddenly switched teams?LOL
Not my favourite RUclipsr doing a video on ACOTAR!!!! (yes, everybody calls it acotar) ❤ And yes girl we do need to talk!!! Everybody conveniently keeps forgetting the fact that Feyre is a freaking kid still. She's an angsty teen with no life experience and is kinda prejudicial towards everyone. And is also very naive and incredibly easily influenced. Oh and we can add, has no idea what she wants because she is still so young! So, I'm not going to spoil anything, but I would love to hear your thoughts once you get to the A Court of Silver Flames. Because I think you will have THOUGHTS 🤣 I think we could draw soo much lessons from it and I think you'll have a new favourite character, or two 😉 P.S. The curtain bangs look amazing 🥰
i also read the first two books. great series. i used to read these books a lot when i was younger but i cant really get back in because i get too into book series and for some reason i dont like who i become when im reading them. i feel emotionally numb and self centered and i start comparing these characters to ppl in real life. i used to enjoy these books when i felt like my life wasnt going anywhere. i tried to channel some of feyre's narcissism but it only made me feel worse because in real life im the opposite of feyre. i care too much . so i just decided to get a life and start pursuing my goals
Entertaining video! I had my dark fantasy romance moment years back, I got bored of characters that I don't admire. That's why I loved Lord of the Rings so much, I saw myself more as Eowyn, but I wanted to be Arwen. I probably won't read these, but I might read the Witcher series... The character/ animation I imprinted on was Anastasia (Fox 1997), she's orphaned and can't remember her past, only has a little clue, and chooses to follow it and discover who she is.
Thank you, Shallon. I have been planning a girly video explaining economics video using the ACOTAR universe as the example. Thank you for pushing me into action with this video 🤍
I'm so happy to see you reacting to books like this. I read it I high school. Had no idea what it was. But damn it was my sexual awakening as a person. I think I have the same standing as you about Tamlin. Sad how u ended between them. 😅
I read wayyy too many harlequin romances and Judy Blume books over and over. My own love life? Greek tragedy has nothing on me. Bella swan character taught young people everywhere you have to change for your man. Great, sigh. ❤
I think the thing about harry was that he was always only viewed as special by people who didn't know him, but his close friends, Ron and Hermionie knew how truly vulnerable he was...heck they would even gatekeep info from him at times so that he would not lose spirit....I think harry potter was a story more so about how everyone did the best they could...obviously Hermionie was always the smartest and most alpha character in the whole series but the point is she stayed alpha and didn't let criticism ever get to her....Ron got over his insecurities towards the end and came back for his friends...and harry just stayed and did what he was supposed to do and that was to accept his fate which was accepting that he was never going to be happy and live the life he dreamt of...That's how I see it anyways😊
Omg, these are my all time favorite books. I Read them back when they first came out “before book talk”and before they were super popular. So funny to see everyone getting into them now ❤
12:33 go look up the fairy tale Catherine and her Destiny. It’s not my favorite but the one that moved me the most. Think it is interesting! Edit: I am unsure about the “don’t do this” from my personal life. My husband said this a ton. And he meant well, but there was always an underlying message of “you should be home and I would prefer it if you stayed here”. Which isn’t bad, but it was also over used. We are still married but this has always been a difficult thing in our relationship.
As someone that does read romance novels...I think that holding up a real man to the standard of a fictional character is just as silly as men expecting real women to look/act like the women in porn. Or expecting the experience of driving to be like the fast and furious movies. As a teenage girl, I too lost my head over the Phantom of the Opera and Henry VIII (the version from the Tudors not the real historical figure). But one of the important lessons we must all learn as adults is to look at the world with a realistic lens...not impose fictional ideals onto the real world.
Wow the crossover I never knew I needed! I just started mist and fury 🥰 Had to click off once you said there were spoilers of book 2 because I want it to be a pager turner for me like the second half of book 1 was! I’ll be back though 🫶🏻
Check out The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. In my opinion, that is the quintessential Fae series, and the one showcasing one of the most iconic alpha dudes in this genre of literature. Plus, I think you might like the main female character ❤
YESS!! Ps, her Throne of Glass series, especially by the third book, is absolute 🔥🔥 As in, I love it even more than ACOTAR because the main character is strong. She might annoy you less 😆
OMG I hate her so much, Feyre is helpless, chaotic and unprepared, but somehow everybody is talking about how capable and special she is anyway. In Twilight Bella at least acknowledges that she is clumsy and unable to look after herself.
I am so excited that you’re into one of my hobbies and interests OMG. I agree I don’t downright hate Tamlin like the rest of the fandom. Ferye changed a lot after UTM and they were no longer compatible. He went through trauma too and was trying to keep her safe the best way he know how. I loveeee Rhys and the bat boys they have definitely ruined men for me. It’s like how porn ruins normal women for men. PURE FANTASY 😂 You’ll seriously LOVE Silver Flames!!!! Then you can work on the rest of the Maas-averse. Throne of Glass is very bad ass but it’s very serious and less sexy. Crescent City is a lot of fun and less serious that’s what I would recommend after you finish ACOTAR!!!
lol I love this!! It won't get many views because it's a "book review" and not gossip, but I love it!! It'd be so much fun to read the book together

Thank you, Shallon. I have been planning a girly video explaining economics video using the ACOTAR universe as the example. Thank you for pushing me into action with this video 🤍
Love love love how your content is always evolving Shallon (just like you)!
I'm so happy to see you reacting to books like this. I read it I high school. Had no idea what it was. But damn it was my sexual awakening as a person. I think I have the same standing as you about Tamlin. Sad how u ended between them. 😅
Ok i wasnt a pro Tamlin girlie but i see your point now actually 😂
Yesssss A BOOK VIDEO !!!!
just finished the two books and so excited to finally watch this! 😂
I cant wait for you to get to ACOSF and talk about Nesta
yesss i'm a total fantasy nerd. Started reading these books because of you. great recommendation! please do more book reviews
Never would have imagined to watch an acotar review from shallon XD
you would also like powerless! i felt that rebecca also took a lot from that book too. powerless was amazing, though
Wings and Ruin is my fav one! Silver Flames is great too
As someone that does read romance novels...I think that holding up a real man to the standard of a fictional character is just as silly as men expecting real women to look/act like the women in porn.
I just started mist and fury 🥰
Had to click off once you said there were spoilers of book 2 because I want it to be a pager turner for me like the second half of book 1 was! I’ll be back though 🫶🏻
More Shallon book reviews please!
Yesss love that you’re doing a video on this book series!! 😍
Oh my god, never thought we'd get a book review from shallon 😂
Yessss, i love acotar! Looking forward to the book relates videos😁
Obsessed with these books! Love that you’re talking about it!
You would LOVE throne of glass. The protagonist is such your vibe !!!
"We are a touchstone, we are the physical embodiment to the worst version of themselves. We are the furniture in the rock bottom." 💀💀😯😳😫
You’re gonna love silver flames. Please do a vid on Nesta ❤❤
I've been planning on reading these and now I have to so I can finish watching this video!
The last book is sooo fucking good Nesta & Cassian have my heart
I CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH THIS OMG BUT I CAN'T DO IT NOW
WATCHED IT NOW, LOVED IT!! I'm here for Shallon in her booktube era
Cassian and Nesta all day every day!
I hope you enjoy the rest of the series. I would also love to know what your opinion on Nesta is after reading her book (silver flames).
Shallon, can't wait for your new book!!
the fact that you read makes you more human . maybe the crisis is needed too. i cant stop reading dark romances.
Your makeup is on point today sis!
Just bought the first book on Amazon 🙌
Haven’t read these books but excited to geek out with you 💖
Please cover Natalie Portman’s divorce!!!
SHITTING A BRICK SHALLON IN HER READER ERA IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS CONTENT
Can’t watch the video in full right now but you look amazing as always. Your face is literally perfect like Margot Robbie’s it’s crazy
18:41 Ok but it was a little comical that whenever she was upset, Tamlin who go hey here i got you some new paint!!
So absolutely thrilled about this!
I am here for a Tamlin redemption story. So happy to find another unabashed Tamlin apologist!
Check out The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. In my opinion, that is the quintessential Fae series, and the one showcasing one of the most iconic alpha dudes in this genre of literature. Plus, I think you might like the main female character ❤
"If you need a guy to save you, he owns you" 👏👏👏
How capable were you when you were a teenager with trauma? You still don't sound mature.
I am also a knee-jerk hater of everything 😂 But if Shallon says it’s worth the read, then I’m reading it as soon as I get my hands on it.
never heard of these books but I'll never not watch a video from you
I am so excited that you’re into one of my hobbies and interests OMG. PURE FANTASY 😂
You’ll seriously LOVE Silver Flames!!!! Then you can work on the rest of the Maas-averse. Throne of Glass is very bad ass but it’s very serious and less sexy. Crescent City is a lot of fun and less serious that’s what I would recommend after you finish ACOTAR!!!
This is the crossover I never knew I needed
