I’m from the UK. I heard this album when it came out when I was 12 or 13 years old. My friend, Alan, had bought it and said I should listen to it at his house on his mum’s record player, which I did. We were both in the sitting room of his mum’s council house. I listened to this in complete disbelief! I’d never heard anything like it before. It was amazing. While I listened, Alan was chatting up his girlfriend at the time. He was more interested in her than the music but I was just lost in the album. Been a DP fan ever since then. In Rock, Fireball and Machine Head blazed a trail for many more bands that followed.

Paice was influenced in jazz and big band growing up. That clip at the end is from his solo on the Mule. It's an awesome video where you definetly see the jazz technique he has. This is cool you guys are getting a taste of Deep Purple. Peace

Great long jam by the masters. In Rock was definitely a groundbreaking album by Deep Purple. Still remember when I first bought it in 1970. From the Mark II lineup along with other great albums like Fireball, Machine Head, etc. Unfortunately, the first three albums involving the Mark I line up which were great too but have kind of gone by the wayside. One song that stands out to me is April. A song written by Blackmore and Jon Lord. Jon did the orchestral part and would go on to write Concerto for Group and Orchestra which came out just before In Rock. Thanks to Ernst for recognizing this awesome song. And thanks to Travis and Suzi for another great reaction.
RIP Jon Lord a musical genius.

THose first three DP albums have more complicated playing than people realize. These guys were monster players even at that young age! Alot of fans know Hush and Kentucky Woman (both with superb Lord solos). But just listen to a few more tracks from their early days. Your jaw may just drop. And of course singer Rod Evans went on to record the incredible debut album by Captain Beyond. T

@@jerryeg327 I wasn't so sure about the first two albums, there are a few good tracks on them but not enough, whereas the third album were all good tracks and Why Didn't Rosemary is a killer track with Blackmore showing us what he could do. April was also a great track but couldnt get into the album Concerto etc, and came then In Rock, dirty, grungy, heavy, my parents hated it...which was good😁

Ian Gillan's vocals were double tracked. Meaning he sang the verses once and then re-recorded it a second time. Of you listen closely on headphones, the voices don't exactly match up left to right. But Gillian used to like keeping one vocal a little bit different when they would double track like that because it added a fullness to the sound. Vocal 1 was mixed on the right side and vocal 2 was mixed to the left for that stereo sound.
