Ian Paice - what a musician! Of all the ol' skool hard rock drummers, he is the most sophisticated, technically way up there with the prog guys and with musicality very rare in this genre's drummers. Totally awesome! I sometimes try out the Burn fills and breaks but always end up messing around the toms when I should follow Ian and focus on the snare - but I don't quite have his immaculate stick technique! Oh whew....
Now you need to watch YOYOKA playing this drum part. Ian Paice did and thoroughly approved. You'll find it easily enough here on RUclips. By the way she was 11 at the time.
From Deep Purple's 1974 album, " Burn" this song opens full throttle, with a killer riff. 🎸🎸 Ian Paice who has played on every Deep Purple album, joined by the phenomenal interplay of Lord and Blackmore, [phenomenal], with Glen Hughes and David Cloverdale alternating on the vocals, this is an unbelievable hard rock and Blues, meet funkiness, song. So groovy. 🎶🎶🎸🎸 Great reaction Harri, stay well my bestie. ❤ Great old rocking tune Anne. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
First Deep Purple record with David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass and vocals. And you´re right, the second half of Blackmore´s and Lord´s solo have that classical flavour
Thank you so much Harri and hopefully I haven't sent you back to your sick bed. I saw these guys again on Saturday and it was truly a bucket list event for me. Ian Gillan, Ian Paice and Roger Glover are the early members of the band playing today. They've found a great guitarist, Simon McBride, and fabulous keyboards from Don Airey, although there will never be another Jon Lord. Lord's keyboards are one of the highlights of this one for me. I've loved Deep Purple as long as I can remember with all the various line ups and this is one of my very favorite songs.
Well, it's about time, Harri! First album after changing lead singer and bass player. No matter. I can see you LIKED it. Still one of my fave rock albums. Thank You!
The "Paice" of this track is even faster than 'Flight of the Rat' but the killer riff and that fantastic Blackmore guitar solo is hard to equal, then great vocals Jon Lord on organ with beautifully rock and classic overtones makes a great accompaniment. All the band are so tight on this one including that overlooked bass - and they had to be on the money. It was'Devil's Spawn' Harry!
You are right...Burn should be listened more than once...next time just for the two masterful solos and another one just for the incredible drumming (you can even find the drums track here on RUclips). I have a request, could you please react to Deep Purple live in France vielles charreus 2005, song: Space trucking? Thank you.
Spot on for the Classical link - Jon Lord (keyboards) openly stated that there was ‘pure Bach’ incorporated into this piece - hugely underrated album by rocks greatest ever band
This was my First Purple album . Coverdale and Hughes does amazing vocals here and on the next one or two album . In fact these albums are in my view end of Blackmore heyday as a guitar player, even tough the Dio years of Rainbow are great due to the great vocals and songs
I was introduced to this and a load of other Deep Purple songs as a fresh faced 14 year old by a guitar player I had just formed a band with who suggested we play it as a cover, I didn't realise what an amazing guitar player he was but I guess its fair to say that I cut my chops on the likes of Gillan and Coverdale.
Some fantastic 🎸 and 🥁 on this classic rock song. A nice ride down memory lane. Many thanks, Anne, and I’m glad you got to see them live! And Harri, I hope you took a long nap after this one…pace yourself, brother 😉💫🎉
@@anneschreck5136 Oh, that’s right! My memory isn’t what it once was…maybe I smoked a little too much of a certain plant. I’m sorry Yes wasn’t as good as you hoped they would be. Hope they opened the show 😉🎸🎉
… Yes, there are other bands and not just Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Black S. etc - there is also Deep Purple and they have been making damn good music since 1968 ... especially from 1969 to 1975 the best songs for me. 🎸🎹🥁🎤 Thank You
Another band where everyone was one of the best at their instrument. These guys were all phenomenal. A great 'debut' after Gillain and Glover were replaced by Coverdale and Hughes. Another great one from this album is 'What's Goin' On Here'.
Well, it's true that you can hear classical references in the solo. Lord and Blackmore studied classical music in their youth and Lord wrote a lot of classical music. Their hero was as for many hard rockers Bach. And there's a Bach-esque sequence in the underlying of the solo. This is only one if two solos that were written, the other is Highway Star. Otherwise every solo you hear in Purple's music is improvised.

It has David Coverdale of course on vocals who sang it originally in Deep Purple, but he is surrounded by elite musicians and the performance is stellar. “Burn” 2004 live MTV Whitesnake ruclips.net/video/wAydlI2fOjs/видео.htmlsi=XoAo5T-dH9NHyozi
@@michaelkarlsson5966 I never said that it was better than the original. Deep Purple’s members were of course elite musicians themselves. It’s an excellent performance and I believe that David’s vocals got a lot better in his Whitesnake years. He had much improved his vocal range and clarity.

No that's wrong. The lyrics are: I didn't believe she was devil's sperm She said, "Curse you all, you'll never learn When I leave there's no return " The people laughed till she said, "Burn"
Yep, sperm is absolutely right. Coverdale tried to impress Blackmore, who didn't really give a shit. And Jon Lord simply said that that wasn't his cup of tea.
I think drumming was star of the show. Ian Paice at his best, Wow!
A lesser producer/engineer would have ruined the dynamic of _D.P_ ~ drums absolutely perfect in the mix.

Always was more in David Coverdale than in Ian Gillan. And Burn is one of the masterclass when it comes to Ian Paige on drums, awesome.
hard rock meets blues meets funk meets baroque :)
This came out when I was in High School, and it still blows me away.
Same here, and I still listen to it!

Deep Purple are cool guys, they don't have bad songs, all the songs are great.
Not "Our Lady"
Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple the holy triad of rock music🤘
I have to put Uriah Heep in there also

Great request..rock and roll at its best
Immediately I'm back in my basement as a teen with my friends, smoking... jamming to this... crazy...❤
What a great selection Anne, I haven't heard this for ages. Thank you Anne and Harri.
Wow! What a blast from the past! Great choice. Hot reaction! Thanks Harri and Anne 🌸✌️
So good!
Anne - This one burns rubber on the road from the very start. Good submission and review.
George Gershwin riff with distorted guitar. "Fascinating Rhytm" indeed.
"Sail Away" is another great track on this album.
Absolute powerhouse vocals by David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes
Let’s go!
There's lead guitar and then there's lead drums. "Burn" is one of them. Great overall rocker.
Love it. Always said that it's Smoke on the Water on steroids. IMHO, only "Lazy" is better.
When I saw them last weekend, they kicked ass on Lazy!
Glad you enjoyed this! Give it up for Jon Lord the keyboardist
Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore was definitely influenced by classical music and I think keyboardist Jon Lord was classically trained
Burn has such a driving force full throttle what a riff Just incredible gives me chills to this day pure rock and roll Deep Purple at their best
Great Band!
DEEP PURPLE, GREAT BAND, WONDERFUL. MY BAND AND I HAD THE PLEASURE OF HAVING IAN PAICE ON DRUMS FOR A CONCERT.
Check their performance at California Jam 1974

That classical influence, Blackmore was inspired by Gershwin's "Fascinating Rhythm"
the riff is almost ripped off from "Fascinating rhythm", end solo parts for guitar and organ is more like Bach or some other of his contemporaries
