Been listening to Deep Purple for 50 years and I’m still buying every new album that comes out. Best band ever.
Deep purple is infectious they are contagious once you listen to them You get addicted. Nobody I mean nobody stands up to them live and I've seen Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin in their heyday Purple live could not be touched by any in that era trust me. deep purple was the king's and the seventies no doubt about it

I saw them four times in the early 70s with the classic lineup. Some of the best live music of my life, and I went to a LOT of rock and roll shows.
Deep Purple was all about improvisation & the guys were truly in their element performing live. "Made In Japan" (1972), recorded on the "Machine Head" tour, captured Deep Purple Mk II in all its glory. Their performance of "Lazy" on that album ruclips.net/video/3avkpMKUTaE/видео.html should have been included on the golden disks packed aboard the Voyager spacecraft for intelligent life elsewhere in the Universe to discover and be amazed.

Beginning is amazing Jon Lord on the organ, but when Ritchie kicks in with his axe, joined by Ian on the kit, and my man Roger on bass it's an amazing ride front to back. Harri my Dad reacted the exact same way back in '72. His reaction was "What in God's Green Earth did you just do to me Son!" It must be shocking coming off your Four Seasons reaction to this whirlwind of pure eargasmic delight...lol. I knew you would appreciate this one, and not just because of the harmonica lol. I promised you all the goodies Harri, and it brings joy to my heart that this moved you my man. I thought you were going to come out of your seat 😂. I hope the microphone survived! Pure joy in your heart!

I liked Roger Glover when he came in towards the end of Deep Purple the Mule live in Copenhagen Denmark 1972.

Deep purple made in Japan is iconic! The intensity, improvisation, and musicianship is second to none.
Ritchie always plays a live solo differently in some way making each performance unique.
Deep Purple is what happens when you take 5 exceptional musicians and put them in the same band. Even though there were internal troubles with the group, they made some of the best music to come out of the 70's. Jon Lord on keys is a phenomenon. Watching him live is amazing.

So many great Deep Purple tracks . Jon Lord was the keyboard player , I think he was Royal College of Arts trained ? He wrote a whole album where Deep Purple played with an orchestra a mix of classical and rock music . When I was young we used to adore this music and first saw the band live in 1973 , we had a lot of great bands at that time Led Zep , Sabbath , Jethro Tull , Budgie , Be Bop De luxe .Purple could go from Soft Rock to Hard Rock , anyone’s Daughter and when a blind man cries examples of the soft side to Speed King on the hard side . Recommend tracks to try Speed King and Mistreated , glad you enjoyed this Harri
1973 was my first Deep Purple concert as well. One point in time to go back to, that'd be it.

This is one of the few hard rock groups I enjoyed in the 60's-70's. My favorites are their covers of Joe South's "Hush" & Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman". Also like "Smoke On The Water", "Child In Time", "Woman From Tokyo", "Highway Star", "Fireball", Speed King", "Space Truckin'", etc.

Yeah, that was back in the days, when 'Stereo' came out, you could put on a headphone, and feel like you are in a concert. I even had a 'quadro headphone, I could hardly fit on my head, LOL, Seen them about 10 times live, they were part of the early 70's European concert and festival circle, along with Taste, Edgar Broughton Band, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, etc, etc. Those were the days.
You can NEVER go wrong with DP. And they just released their 22nd studio album last year. 53 years and still doing it. Sadly keyboardist Jon Lord passed about a decade ago, and lead guitarist Blackmore left the band in the early 90's, but their replacements are great, if not quite as spectacular. Every song is special.
It was the Summer of '72, me and a couple of friends had been camping at a part of the Catskill Creek called Half Moon, where there is a sand beach, 100 ft wide water, and 60 to 70 ft high Cliffs across from our camp. My friend Sally drove down and had to New Tapes with her, "The Inner Mounting Flame" by John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and "Machine Head" by Deep Purple "! Hearing that sound, reflecting off the water and echoing from the cliffs was Insane! One of the All Time Great Rock Albums, along with Sgt Pepper's, Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore, Dark Side of the Moon etc. It was the Platinum Years of Rock!
Love your reaction to this. My older brother introduced me to Deep Purple in the mid 70's and "Lazy" has always been my favorite jam from them. Machine Head is such a great album that I feel ALL of the tracks should have been #1. This CD is in my number 1 slot in my truck!

This has always been my favorite of several great Purple songs, such a display of musicianship for a simple straight-ahead bluesy rock song. Keyboards, guitar, and drums all excel, played with a visceral quality but with such precision and feeling and momentum that you just don't find very often.
Such incredible talent came out of the era. Nobody jams like this anymore. I’m glad I grew up then.

I don’t think there is a band that was so much ‘of the time’ as Deep Purple. The organ! The bass! The voice! It all screams the late 60s, early 70s.

Deep Purple was possibly the loudest band ever. People had been known to be knocked unconscious standing too close to the speakers😵 back in the early seventies.
Driving music? Yeah in the early 70s I had a couple Long play Memorex cassette tapes and deep purple was on the playlist. There are driving songs and this is one of them. Right up there with "Radar Love".
But it's good flying music too. I remember listening to Machine Head in 1973 when flying missions in Vietnam.

Great band Harri. Glad you reacted to them. Space Truckin off this same album it great also. Flight of the Rat is a good one also off the Deep Purple in Rock album. Jon Lord is one of the best rock keyboard players there ever was. Lazy live in Copenhagen Denmark is a good one also. 1972.
I think Kieth Emerson was the only keyboardists to surpass him imo.

You have elements of straight, classical church, organ style, then shifting to a very hard swing, which is very UN-classical. here’s another bit for your appreciation, the London, cast of Jesus Christ superstar, the fella who played Jesus, is this singer! Ian Gillian, who also plays the harmonica. Peace.
A classic song that hasn't lost it's soul. A real treat to listen to what a rock-n-roll organ can do at full throttle. A necessary part of rock history. Traveling down the road is built into this songs soul. Great choice for reacting.

In 2012 they invited various artists to perform the songs from this album as 40th anniversary tribute. They picked Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Barnes (from Cold Chisel) to do this song. In many ways it rocks even more but does lack the harmonica. There is even a video of the recording session.

The band is great but also as someone who has dabbled in music the brits have probably the best mixing desks in the world. I know the Neve console was made in the UK ( what a legendary console Rupert Neve ) plus many others. Now combine that with a good sound engineer and a producer you already have recipe for a good sound. Add Deep Purple to that stew and you have something special. My 2 cents worth.

I totally agree with ronforman. Check out the video of this and other classic Deep Purple songs performed in the Made In Japan videos. Deep Purple MKII which I think is the best line up of this legendary band were really at the top of their game!
I grew up hanging out with my bro and his friends they were 7 years older but they listened to all the good music.. so I knew all the good rock and roll as a kid..

I will go to my grave thankful that I grew up in the greatest era of music ever compiled....it truly was the epitome' of music, expression, feeling, rhythm, etc. I was blessed to spend my youth in the 60's and 70's, when music was pure, untainted by politics, race, etc, Just pure, expressive, musical joy. Amazing time to be alive. No Rap, no hate, no politics, nothing but pure musical enjoyment. The way to enjoy Deep Purple is cranked up full volume on a good stereo system, on vinyl, blowing your mind out....for those who've heard this and been blown away.... God Bless You!

DP Mk 2 the best heavy rock band ever. Lazy is great song on this iconic album. For me Jon Lord on keys was the difference that put DP ahead of Led Zepp. So many great DP songs in that era. On that Machine Head LP just pick any song and it is a winner. For driving and getting a ticket try Speed King and Highway Star the most famous speeding songs ever. They will knock your socks off.

I've been playing over 40 years now, and you can learn it, but to get the same sound that Ritchie gets is impossible unless you're Ritchie Blackmore...lol! I knew the family would enjoy it, and more importantly our main man Harri. It was nice to see pure joy on his face, warms my heart to bring happiness. Well you know as well as I do, Machine Head album has one request after another to chose from. I believe Space Truckin' would get the same effect from our man Harri. You must be a dude who appreciates deep cuts because this track is not what the average Deep Purple fan goes to as the favorite. It gets buried under "Smoke on the Water" which got the radio play, and this masterpiece never hit the air waves even to this day on the FM dial. And that's a shame because of the overplayed "Smoke on the Water" tends to turn people away thinking that this is all they got. Lazy still remains my favorite track, and Machine Head was there finest work.

And i still prefer the live cut from Made in Japan, of Smoke on the Water over the studio version any day! i was born in 1968, but was also lucky to have a father that appreciated good music, we had a HUGE 8-track tape collection because there was a player on the home stereo, and in the van. My dad loved everything from CSN&Y and The Mamas and The Papas, to Steppenwolf and The Doors, to Emerson, Lake, and Palmer and Yes.
I knew the words to the whole 'Band on the Run' album by age 8! I grew up on much of the best music ever made. Pops gave me the early appreciation.
@@beno7238 I think we're related...lol. Same kinda upbringing. I was 12 when you were born, and Shades of Purple came out then. My older bro christened me into Deep Purple. My dad was country, bluegrass, blues, and folk. He encouraged us to find our own place musically. My mom was the eclectic one, she loved anything from Connie Francis to Black Sabbath. A musical smorgasbord of a family. So my tastes range from Merle Haggard to Megadeth. Always looking to find something new. From obscure to melodic try anything once. Glad to grow up with the freedoms and encouragement to find the person I wanted to be. Now just an old Greybeard and loving be able to share the music that I've experienced through my lifetime. It's pretty exhilarating! Makes you feel your age when you can dig back 5 decades. Thanks for sharing Ben, sounds like we both could go for hours talking music and life. One of my all-time favorites, just an amazing song. I love every single second of it. I bought this album back in 1973, just before I turned 13, after 'Smoke On The Water' was a hit. I knew nothing about Deep Purple and had never heard any of the other songs. I was blown away by the entire album. They were at their absolute peak back then. I still own the vinyl, had to buy a new copy eventually back in the 80's.
