He was briefly the lead singer for Black Sabbath, after Ozzy left and before Dio, I believe. The album with the demon baby, for sure. I remember how funny it was to me that he was the lead in both Black Sabbath and Jesus Christ Superstar (the good audio version that got radio time, the original stage recording, not the movie/soundtrack).

You know what is weird about my generation? We took this level of music for granted. We expected this level of excellence from our musical heroes. We all grew up practicing piano, organ, trumpet, violin, drums. We studied the classics, big band, jazz, the Blues. At some point in the 50's we switched to guitars and electric basses. We sang in choirs. We listened to early trend setters. We learned lessons from those that came before us. And more importantly we knew what great music sounded like. Leonard Bernstein knew it when he heard the early Beatles. George Martin knew it. Berry Gordy knew it. We were 25 years in the making and we did not disappoint.

This live version is better than the studio version imho.
This voice here is pure emotion.
I was 5 years old, now almost 59 and everyday I'm listening to this masterpiece.
Now, very often I'm listening this track with my 5 and 6 years-old grandchildren.
    We teach them great music.
When they're older, we'll explain the lyrics.
    Great music never get old.
Our youngsters must hear songs like these right?
    Thank you for your reaction

Wait until you hear their most legendary song😂Smoke On The Water.😂most know guitar riff on earth😂❤❤Ian Paice is a full on beast mode on drums😂RIP John Lord😢Keyboards, Ritchie Blackmore, guitar, ian Gillan, vocals. Seen them 2 shows, 2018 both with Judas Priest. Ian and Rob pushing 70 years old😮still hitting those high notes❤❤😂😂and bass i think is Roger Glover.

Hopefully, he will be listening to the live version in the UK studio - which is quite stunning. The record is excellent, but the live version even better.

The main difference to me is that the live has a more stunning keyboard solo, while the studio has the better guitar solo.

Thank you so much for playing this it is one of my all time favourite songs! Ian Gillan is an amazing vocalist Pavarotti was a fan. He wrote this to protest the Vietnam war! Deep Purple are sooo underrated and every member is a master on their intruments. They were one of the 3 grandfathers of heavy rock/metal with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Just amazing talent!

I was born in 1973. My parents named me after the Deep Purple record "The Book of Taliesyn". We had a vinyl collection that would make you weep. I grew up to everything from Captain Beefheart and Dr. John the Night Tripper all the way to Bach Cello Concertos.
My father worked in a mine, but as soon as he got home, he would smoke a joint and put something amazing on the turntables.

I grew up in this generation. There was so many great musicians, bands, and songs, coming out one after another, we knew deep down we had something special. It wasn't until things started to change, go down hill as far as real talent and skill was concerned, along with great songs, then did we realized just how great we really had it in the music world. Music was our world. By the 80s, when some great things were starting again to come out, things were looking up...but... I was listening to the old stuff long before they called it classic rock. I just didn't care for most of what was new, and some was down right horrible, yet the music corporation were promoting all of it. Unheard of in our day. Our music is timeless.
