Even though "business" in and of itself isn't evil, I can't find another word than that to describe what the meat industry entails. For the uninformed and willfully ignorant it may seem like "they are just providing food for people to eat", but it is so much worse than that. They have such an influence over society at large that they have now changed the rules of the game and play by rules set by themselves, and in doing so they have put up massive barriers to keep the status quo. The last time the Earth had 427ppm of atmospheric CO2 the Seas were approx 80 feet higher so we are only at the beginning of what 427ppm will do. Also there is an approx time lag of 20 years between increased atmospheric CO2 and it’s heating impacts on the climate so the apocalyptic events we are now witnessing are from atmospheric CO2 of approx 20 years ago. We will witness the extinction of most life on Earth, but in theory we can still avert the worst case scenario of total extinction. But in my estimation we have 5 years to make the 2 necessary transitions 1) a rapid move to a plant based food system, 2) a rapid transition to a Decentralised Citizen owned and run ( Non Fossilised) Algae Based Economy. Even if everyone went plant based today we still couldn’t reforest the freed up land fast enough and the Trees wouldn’t mature enough in time to sequester the necessary atmospheric CO2, the Earth doesn’t have 10-20 years for that to happen. Which is why we also need a Decentralised Carbon Neg Algae based economy which could be rolled out country wide in every village and town within 5 years. Also Algae can be grown from our waste water, landfill runoff & industrial gasses, cleaning them in the process while producing valuable Biomass & Bio Oil that can be made into numerous Carbon Neg, Compostable products such as Bio Plastics, Fertiliser, Clean Burning Carbon Neg Bio Fuel, Nutraceuticals etc etc. 🌎🌻✊🏽
Regenerative farming can be a part of regenerative agriculture. But remember that cutting animals is not an essential part of regenerative farming. Tastebuds change. I grew up the first 25 years of my life with meat always being half my plate, potatoes being another large portion. I loved it so much but gave it up anyway, and after a few months, I stopped craving it. I'd eat some on holidays for a while, and I just stopped liking it at all. Now I crave tofu, tempeh, lentils, and beans. I did it because of health. After seeing the studies showing meat causes so many diseases that run in my family, it made me switch, but I still loved the taste until my tastebuds changed, and now I don't anymore. I used to hate veggies, and now I crave them. I used to be like you guys, I never wanted to give up meat or dairy either but you can only see so many heart attacks and cancer, strokes, and arthritis from your family members who all eat a lot of meat and very little processed foods. Our family isn't on a standard American diet but they get these diseases anyway. So you can't blame processed foods at all. I grew up eating mostly whole foods and still noticed vast improvements when I gave up meat and dairy.
Australian state and federal governments are actively working on implementing "low-carbon technologies" in beef industry (pretty much feeding cows with sea weed). I've seen lately the whole host of government job openings in this domain for scientists and all sorts of administrators to do it. Pretty much they are protecting the beef industry and even waster resources and talent in order to maintain the old ways. 2 million km² are currently taken away from natural ecosystems and are used to produce beef. To put it in perspective the whole Australia is 7.7M km², while 1.4M km² of the Australia mainland are desert. So 2M km² out of 6.3M km² of inhabitable land are dedicated to cows alone. It's a planetary scale cow farm and a huge chunk of the country's economy and nobody has any plans to change anything...
The soils are too deficient to be vegan! Not everyone wants to be pencil thin skeletons! The native stories tell us that cows made a spiritual pact with humans for our survival, the price has already been paid.
