The movie shows the brutal treatment of people suffering mental illness. They are mocked and ridiculed and people dismiss them as garbage.
And it’s well done
yes and no. Most ppl with mental illness are non violent. The movie does a bad rep for ppl with actual mental illness.
@@surfingtothestarsehh, I disagree. I have a mental illness. I’ve been sent to a mental hospital a couple times. I think movie really captured how “society” actually doesn’t give a single crap about people like me. I mean, hell, while I was at the hospital, the doctor didn’t care about me. They just cared about how much medicine they could shove down my throat.
I love how Joaquin Phoenix and Heath Ledger both won Oscars for their Joker movies🃏🏆
In case you missed it when he was reading the envelope from the insane asylum. His mother sat there while he was abused by her boyfriend they found him chained to a radiator with severe head damage. She's the one that did that to him the laughing that he can't control. And yet he spent his whole life caring for her. That's why he killed her
That’s wild she done that to him
"I take that back, i'd fuck them kids up" 😂 always enjoy your reactions man, keep up the great content!
Lol thank you. And I’m glad you enjoying my way of helping educating the youth 🤣🤣
“My man killed three people, rant to a bathroom and started 🕺 He built different.”
I needed that laugh today, man. Thank you
You welcome. Glad I was able to make you laugh
"Ill tell you what, I'll pull a twinkie out my pocket & step on it in front of her" bro you funny as shit 😂😂😂
"He stalked her, and she found it attractive." That's how it works, the voices all agree.
Is he dancin...?! Or is he doin that shit Mr. Miyagi doin.? 🤣
Lol I didn’t know what he was doing but he was feeling himself
'Is he laughing or crying?'
Yes.
Lol greatest answer to that
"I'm not chasin' them. And they're kids? Even if I catch them, I can't do anything."
A few. Moments. Later.
"I take that back, I'd f**k them kids up."
Love you, man.
Yo I read a little further down in the comments and someone mentioned this way before me, my bad.
@@nickurchin9579 🤣🤣🤣 it’s all good I love seeing y’all quote things I say. I like knowing what y’all think is funny
I believe Joker summed it up best in The Killing Joke: "If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice." I think it's up to the viewer to decide if this is truth or just another story he's told.
I always loved that line from that
I feel a Joker-centric show/episode/film is always best done when the narrator is unreliable.
“The past tense I suppose you could call it”
@@oduinn7948 I tend to enjoy stories like that.
I've always preferred the Joker not having a definitive origin story. He just appears out of nowhere after Batman's first year of crime-fighting. Ushering in the costumed criminals taking Gotham from the mobsters.
My therapist, mother, and cousin did not want me to watch this movie alone due to my mental health. My mom decided to sit me down and watch with me. I enjoyed it. Felt fine. Then four hours later had a nervous breakdown. You're definitely right saying it's a tough watch. Cause you just don't know how to feel.
As always, ABSOLUTELY love your reactions! Best subscribe!
hope ur mental health has been good and better now!!
Hugs to you sweetie ❤ MamaKat

This movie is a masterpiece.
I agree
It really is. I put it up there with the greats. It's one of those movies that is exactly as it should be. Nothing is out of place, not a sound, not a line, nothing.
I wanted to be able to say that, or at least that it was good. But I couldn't.
@@wet-read think that a lot of people related to various parts of the movie, for me what really hits home is how the therapist/social worker doesn't actually care or rather lets him know how the system doesn't care about him as i've been in a very similar situation where i was left to fend on my own when i was in no state to do so.
Taxi Driver is a masterpiece.
Joker is a good, well produced modern rehash with few ideas of it's own and little room for analysis.
I love it. Just rewatched it. But it's not a masterpiece. It's a top tier comic book movie.
This one is moving up my all time list.
It's dark, dirty, bloody, cynical, and pulls no punches.
Best scene is when Joker shoots Murray.
Probably the most subversive scene in modern movie history.
It even shocked Quentin Tarantino.
Be nice to people, it pays off sometimes.
Btw, love your commentary during the film.
Your one liners are hilarious.
Much appreciated. J said it definitely shot him his all time list as well. One of his favorites he's watched for the channel so far, and he's watched some heavyweights.
Yes
Weird things I noticed in this movie: Everytime they show the clock, it's on 11:11. When Arthur writes in his joke book as Arthur, he writes right handed, when he's the joker, he writes left handed.
Your dog's face right after Joker was on the Murray Show 😂 Like even she/he couldn't believe it
🤣🤣🤣 I had to go back and see his face bc somebody else mentioned that to me. I rewatched that part 10 times laughing him
Man. “Every sandwich in Gotham”😂😂😂😂 rewatching all these keeps giving up gems! Thanks guys.
"Y'all kicked the wrong clown today"
This needs to be a T-shirt.
🤣🤣🤣 might have to do that
The way I just hollered 🤣🤣🤣 “Arthur think he sexy, don’t he?!” 🤣🤣🤣
Lol I swear he does
"He need every sandwich in Gotham" LOL
One of my favorite movies as well man.
The relationship with the woman is in his mind.
I didn’t know until I seen him break into her apartment
I didn't make it throught the whole movie on my first viewing. I've lived with depression half my life(since i was 14. 32 now). and i can't remember if i was having a particulary rough patch when i saw this but it really got to me. Phoenix portrayal is haunting in soooo many ways. amazing acting.
It's hard to watch when you're down because it's such a good portrayal of it.
"I'm waiting for the punchline."
"There is no punchline."
I really, really love this movie. An easy 9/10 rating from me. That said, Heath Ledger is the best cinematic Joker (with Jack Nicholson as a close second). The Joker is a thug and gangster, his first priority is to commit crime to make money and murder is a happy byproduct of his profession. Arthur is a murderer, but Gotham's criminal underworld would eat him alive.
Fun Fact: The premiere of the film at the Venice Film Festival drew an eight-minute standing ovation. It went on to be the first R-rated movie in history to make $1 billion worldwide. There's a sequel in the works and Lady Ga Ga is said to be currently in talks to co-star.
Tough Love Fact: Joaquin Phoenix called perfecting the Joker's laugh the toughest part of playing the character.
Real Life Clown Fact: Arthur Fleck performs stand up at 'Pogo's Comedy Club' in Gotham. Pogo the Clown was the stage name of real life professional clown and serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
These facts are brought to you by 🐊
Like Voltaire, I may not agree with what you said, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it. I think this version of the joker is such a nuanced display of slow descent into madness. His portrait of a damaged man, further damaged by a cruel and unjust society who walks all over him, it’s just poignant and tragic and all the things. Ledger was great, but from a “character” depth and layered nuanced performance, this was Daniel Day Lewis level of acting (think of “there will be blood”. I’ll be curious to see who goes down as time progresses as the greatest joker. But for my book and my vote, J Phoenix all the way. Good energies and good comment
Dan Johnson ...I get it, but "Clown Prince Of Crime" is one if Joker's nicknames. Not MADNESS not MURDERER, but CRIME. I honestly don't see Arthur Fleck having the mental awareness to lead a gang or holding up a bank.
Now this might change in the upcoming sequel, but this Joker is wholly unqualified to be a gang leader.
Let me be clear: I do love this Joker, for this movie. I just don't think he's the BEST Joker.
@@BigGator5 valid point. But that last scene. They (the clowns, the outcasts, downtrodden etc) follow him (a young prince) for no other reason than he gave voice to their thoughts and feelings in his monologue. They commit the crimes (again, the chaos going on in the streets at the end) yet none of them know him or his story. They heard his words, and saw his deed. He killed the 3 guys representing the old regime (Wayne enterprise employees) and Murray who humiliated him. Killing is a crime. A crime isn’t just petty thieves or even gangsters. Crime is all things not legal. He doesn’t have the mental capability to be a leader of men, but he did communicate his pain and anger in a way which resulted in the action of mass crime and chaos. If that’s not the prince of crime…what is? I don’t think either of us is wrong. Which is cool too.
JL ...You're welcome! I highly enjoy getting this information for your reactions!
Lol the pups eyes when Murray gets shot!
🤣🤣🤣 I’m have to go back and look at that now
I grew up blocks away from those stairs there in the bronx ny
Reportin in from Co-op City, holdin it down here next to Pelham Bay and City Island 👍
This is one of my top three favourite movies of all time. Arthur suffers from pseudobulbar affect due to the head trauma suffered in childhood. Every shot, every color, every angle used in this film evoked an emotion so that the audience could feel what Arthur was feeling. I work with children with special needs and mental illnesses and society STILL prefers to push them to the sidelines. I love this movie for so many reasons but shining a light on mental illness is definitely one of them. Oscars all well deserved here. ❤❤❤
“Is he crying or laughing?”
Yes.
You right
“ I’ve also pulled on a push door so…
I feel you bro!! 😂 🤙
🤣🤣
I always thought the ending with Murray seemed alot like johnny Carson. Same curtain, similar suit, and even had someone who sounds like Ed McMahon. I'm sure this was on purpose
That never crossed my mind
Wasn't the woman he kissed supposed to be Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the sex therapist who was always on the Tonight Show hoping people have "Good sex!"?
@@stanmann356 yes! I couldn't place her. Thank you. That's been driving me nuts for yrs.

15:20 The club is called "Pogo's".
"Pogo the clown" was the name serial killer John Wayne Gacy used when he entertained at children's hospitals.
I didn’t catch that
My man has the concerned face 80% of this movie
I love how your copilot stands at attention while you do your intro.

I was sitting here eating a Subway sandwich when you said he need to eat every sandwich in Gotham. I'm in tears!!! lmao. And the way Rom looked at you when he shot Murray....man...I'm dead cuz...Anyway, great reaction vid and your ending synopsis is spot on cuz.
🤣🤣🤣 Romulus had me cracking up on the watch back when that happen. And thank you, I’m glad you been enjoying cuz
The first two guys he killed was definitely self defense, you don’t just go around beating the shit out of people.

10:00 "So he stalked her and she found it attractive..." That look at the camera and head nod, though. 🍰🗣️
11:10 "I wouldn't go close to him!" LLoooLL 😂😂😭
You threaten somebody and they start laughing like that you leave them alone
Hahahahaha when u started dancing like him in the bathroom. Omg I can’t 😂😂😂. Love you man!! That little boy is a young Bruce Wayne (Batman). It’s crazy they interacted with him at such a young age. Keep it up!! Sending love ❤️❤️
Lol I’m post of video of me dancing like that. I’m glad you been enjoying and I truly appreciate the love and support
love the soundtrack.. It's almost believable the following he gets. He's not evil, just a messed up guy in a messed up, violent world.. Can't condone the things the character did, but I like how his downward spiral is believable.. Think this is supposed to take place in 80's New York, which was a shit show at the time.. Anyway, good commentary ; )..
The soundtrack is amazing. And I’ve watched this a few times since my reaction and the more I watch it the more I feel bad for him. And I’m glad you been enjoying
I believe it was Gotham City not New York.

This one is amazing! Can't wait for the reaction, Big Man! Give the puppers a scratch and treat from me!👀🐕🍻🚬💕👍💪💪💪💪

Trying to look at Arthur in the most positive possible light, he only kills people who have wronged him. He didn't kill the short guy that was nice to him. I’ve seen people speculate he killed the GF character but I don’t think so.
I’m telling myself he didn’t kill her.
Arthur didn’t kill anyone… He was in Arkham the entire time..
I thought Arthur was terribly misunderstood. He was abused and downtrodden. People were cruel to him! Arthur wanted help. He tried getting help. He tried the meds they made him cooky and made him lose weight. He tried. He only hurt those who hurt him. The guy he worked with flat out lied on him. The biggest event for me was he didn't kill the Wayne family and its always been told Joker killed them. Notice we've only ever seen Batmans perspective. It's very interesting to see the other person's perspective. Batman always believes that Joker is his number one nemesis. I wonder what would happen of Bruce saw the world from jokers perspective.
@@J_EOMReacts I don't think he killed her because Joker only killed the people who hurt him. She never hurt him he has no motive to kill her. It wasn't in his nature. He wasn't cruel he only avenged wrong doing.
Arthur was schizoid, and his girlfriend was part of his delusion.
This is my favorite joker. Most of the other Jokers are crazy and evil for some unknown reason or because they fell in a vat of chemicals. We slowly got to watch a good, sweet, weird man be turned into the joker by society
It was a beautiful transformation
But that was sort of the point. The Joker is just a villian through and through. He was always meant to be more of a blank slate chaotic evil. Giving him a sympathetic backstory makes him less scary and evil. Good movie but only one take on Joker. I still prefer him being a complete loon who does bad just for the hell of it.
“Don’t you have to be funny to be a comedian”
“Damn”
lol yeah exactly. That was cold blooded lol
🤣🤣🤣 she violated that man
I think it was maybe my fifth viewing, where I started to doubt that Arthur was actually the subway shooter. The shooter was described as wearing a clown mask, not facepaint, and Arthur fires...I think eight shots, without reloading. Definitely more shots than his gun holds. Of course, that could just be an error on the filmmakers' part, but I think it's deliberate, to make us question whether Arthur actually did it, or if it was just another fantasy. The more I watch the movie, the less sure I am that any particular thing in it is actually real. Which I love.
I agree 100%. It’s so many things to say yes this happen and it’s just as much to say none of it happen
Are you kidding? Then again maybe it was all in his head
I didn't get a close enough look nor did I think to of his weapon. That said, there are .38's that do hold 8 rounds. They are not common but I have seen a Snub that did. I was caught off guard as most hold 5 to 6 but yeah, some do have 8. Semantics but an easy explain for the producers re 8 rounds. I like your theory though and makes one think and rethink scenarios and specifics. That's a cool thing with this movie. What you saw may not be what happened and did you see it?
@@3toobular Arthur's gun is a Smith & Wesson Chief's Special. It holds five rounds. If he fired six shots, that'd be one thing, as most people see a .38 revolver, and automatically think six shots, so that's just the norm for Hollywood. But eight shots, out of a five shot revolver, feels to me like deliberately overdoing it, to make us question, on repeat viewings, the reality of what we're watching.
I immediately knew it wasn't Arthur killing the Wayne's. The guy who killed them was short Arthur was tall , Arthur have long hair the other hair's short.
This movie is so disturbing and unsettling… and brilliant. The direction and cinematography, the acting, the mood and twists. It is easy to hate how this movie makes you feel and what it depicts… but I think I love it.
Me too
One movie you should think about checking out that no one talks about is “The Wrestler” with Mickey Rourke

Me: WHY IS THE BLANKET MOVING?! Also me: oh yeah he has a dog. Also also me: HE HAS TWO DOGS!!!! Lmao stay well friend. Can’t wait for the next reaction.
🤣🤣🤣 that’s hilarious.
Let me explain why he sat in the refrigerator. Remember, he couldn't get his medicine anymore. So this is due to withdrawals from not taking it. He was having chills then hot flashes. I understood that as soon as I seen him go in it. .. I just understand.
The fact that the same director made "Hangover" 😂
Which I actually liked. That and the third Hangover, which I think should have been the second one (with the actual second one not being made). I did not, however, like Joker.
He sat in the fridge (to me) was to make a home made self deprivation chamber. He trying to balance himself out since he has no meds.
That makes sense. Kind of like Romulus jacket for anxiety
Your dog is amazing.... "look at me"

When watching this movie, I always remember what Rocky said to his son, about the punches life gives. Arthur was beaten by life too many times to get back up. No wonder he became like this, this would break almost anyone. Feeling sympathy for the villain... not many movies can do this to me.

Check out the Martin Scorcese movies Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. Joker is like a combination of the two. You'll be able to spot the influences.
Will most definitely do
Yes indeed, a weird mishmash of those two films. I doubt it would have worked all that well in any event, but certainly not with writing as poor as was featured in Joker.
Down in the dark, isolated depths of depression and despair anything is possible, there is no bottom, there is no compass.
11:24 "People are horrible."
If that doesn't encapsulate what the theme of the movie is, I don't know what would.
At least in the eyes of Arthur.

What I love about this movie is the graceful expressive acting by J.P. the excellent cinematography and lighting, and most of all the portrayal of the ills of society as a stacking of pressures upon man.
It makes me think that maybe we should as societies reframe how we run society by looking at the stacking of mental pressures people fall under.
You look uncomfortable already...I like it =;o

Why is it that everyone who sees the refrigerator scene doesn't understand he's committing suicide by slow suffocation? There used to be a big problem with the disposal of old fridges with the pull handle on the outside. There was no way to unlatch them from the inside. Kids would play hide and seek and sometimes they'd die by hiding in them.
I didn’t understand it because I’ve never heard of somebody doing that before. Never in my life had I heard somebody say, “yeah they committed suicide by sitting in a fridge”. So until somebody said that yesterday I never knew it was a thing
I thought it was because it reminded him of hospital, where at least he felt safe

I know a few people that said this is not their cup of tea but they did enjoy his performance. He did do an amazing job with this
One interesting about the what was real/imagined. In the subway when he killed the 3 guys, he fired 8 rounds from a 5 round revolver, without reloading. My theory was that the final 3 point blank shots by the stairs might be the imagined part. (What he wished was real had the weapon not have been empty) and the third guy bleeding out from the two that hit him.
I'll watch this when I'm feeling better.
Sorry to hear that you’re feeling bad. Hope you get better soon
"Half of knowing is not knowing." (My quote.) Yes, the Joker was deranged. Yes, he did those killings. Yes, there was more than one Joker in the comics. Yes, he had a mental condition. Yes, this was a disturbing film. And yes, this was a Joke(r)!! (See what I did there? Ha, ha, ha!!)
Lol I like that
Great video! My favorite part was from 10:06 till about 10:11 . Man it is a messed-up world. Looking back at this comment a few things about Arthur. 1. mental health medicine compliance is almost always abandoned by the patient at some point because they stop taking it and feel better then all of a sudden all of it hits them severely, not only this but mental medications are not like otc's that work instantly they take weeks to a month to work, so the behavior gets worse naturally. 2. When you are lied to about the basis of the foundation of your life by someone you trust the level of emotions is intense, especially being betrayed by the one that you thought cares about you most. 3. The refrigerator incident is a coping mechanism for extreme stress. 4. Being abused as a child has severe consequences on the mental state of a person so does being adopted.
I think Murray was supposed to be like David Letterman
