  • The Fuji X-T3 is a very capable and nowadays, very affordable camera. Personally I prefer other Fuji cameras , but here are some quick thoughts from my time using it together with the Viltrox 75mm f1.2.

I refer to it as the Harry Potter effect. When the wand chose him. Same situation. The camera, just felt good, and no matter how many times I've put the others in my hand, they just didn't feel the same.

Being a 90%-time amateur/enthusiast, I own the T3 for 2 years now and use it in parallel with the T2. Fantastic cameras for photographers and occasional video shooters as I am. I prefer the T3 to the T2 for these reasons:
    * better EVF with a diopter which does not change by accident - and I can tell you on my T2 this happens all the time! - The EVF now is not so much affected by pixel size as the T2, but both are way better than their small siblings in the T20, e.g.
    * smooth shutter sound / shutter operation
    * faster autofocus - on par with the T4
pixel count is not an argument for me to upgrade to the T5, as even "M" sized jpegs with about 12 Mpix do the job for me in most cases - only for occasional customers, I shoot RAW which I afterwards convert to full size jpegs.
Please only buy the best glass for these and you will not be disappointed - okay: eye autofocus is not quite usable in dark or backlit situations: keep in mind you will need an auxiliary light to brighten the scene, when using off-camera flash.

The only reason I don't have a full setup for Fuji is the flickering they have after you focus/take a shot. It's the aperture returning back to wide open 1 tick at a time and most people I've talked to don't notice it or can ignore it. Every time I use a Fuji I end up with a migraine due to the flicker. I tried for a month to get used to it, but still got headaches after the month of near daily use so I sold it and moved on. Maybe it's because I'm like a squirrel in that any type of movement or shift in light like that catches my attention making it near impossible to ignore and seem worse than it is.
None of my MFT, Sigma, or Pentax gear does this, so I generally use a GX85/E-M5.III for walk around use or either a Pentax KP or K-1.II for cases where I want the greater resolution or detail (the KP might be APS-C, but the detail I get in the shots makes me question selling the K-1 tbh). I've also recently been messing with a Sigma fp that I actually love despite almost every review ending with "don't buy this thing". I've had no issues with the electronic shutter, even with streetlamps, but I would like it if it had tilt screen (factory with weather sealing, not a mod) since the EVF is an expensive add on. If it had the tilt screen mechanism of the X-T2 and X-T3 then I'd be content. Then again, that goes for every camera; that two-way tilt setup is the pinnacle of tilt screen imo.
Maybe Sigma will be nice and put out another camera that's a blend of the quattro and fp shell wise giving a built in evf, x-t2/x-t3 style tilt screen with touch, same bayer sensor that doesn't make it a pain to process correctly outside of Sigma software, and the same style firmware from the fp that I actually find easy to use (and same rate of updates that makes it better and better solving most criticism early reviews had that never get updated saying Sigma listened and fixed it). Fp L sensor would be nice, I went for the cheaper fp in the end, but the still life stuff I do would work great with the increased resolution and flexibility it brings with the built-in pinch to crop/zoom. I may just buy an fp L to go with my fp if I find a body cheap enough, plan on waiting a while to see what happens with MFT stills cameras that aren't for bird watchers or to see if Pentax dies and becomes a brand name slapped on a couple half-baked film bodies possibly rebadged/outsourced.

Love the older Fuji sensor.... literally the X-Trans1 was the most magical.... and progressively i feel like they have lost more and more magic and they've become somewhat clinical... sony like.... the X-Pro1 in 2023 is still my favorite camera.... shot a friends wedding with my X-Pro1 and X-H1.... and when sorting through the pictures i realized just how much more i like the X-Trans1 sensor
The X-Pro line (despite the problems of the X-Pro3) are for me the perfect photographer cameras
The X-T & X-H lines are perfect if you're hybrid shooting.... although i find the X-T line doesn't feel great in the hand as the grip is just too shallow for bigger hands.... the X-H1 just feels like a nice Nikon/Canon DSLR in the hand (added advantage.... some of the Fuji lenses are quite heavy but they balance perfectly on the X-H1)
The X-Pro1/2 + 27mm for me is the perfect camera setup, insanely light and quick to use and the images just look nice
Right now i have absolutely no need to upgrade anything and the X-Pro1 will remain my daily shooter (although i grab my X70 more and more because it's just nice and tiny)
Hope Fuji brings back some of their magic with future sensors and doesn't get more clinical i want to have fun with my camera... not perform surgery! Also... death to the PSAM dial... i hate menus and like to shoot in full manual

it seems that many Xt3 users ( me included ) have decided that the XT5 isnt enough of a step up in image quality alone to justify the upgrade. There are many videos on youtube demonstrating this. I think the XT3 prices will hold up on that basis and may even start to go up . I have decided I will stick to the XT3 and if I really want that step change in resolution I will add a GFX 50s11 to the XT3 . XT3, lightweight with ultra wide and super telephoto zoom and then GFX for all the in between focal lengths and super high quality landcapes and woodland work.

Really my only misgiving with it is crop sensor, but only because I prefer working with manual focus vintage lenses. So I went to Sony A7iii body and usually use a Rokkor 58mm lens. If I were to reboot, I could completely see having something like an X-T2 or X-T3 with a Voigtlander Nokton 35mm (modern manual focus lens made for Fuji body) and *nothing else*.

I have the X-T30 and like the image quality and the size, especially with an accessory grip. They kinda tried to go for the Leica T swipe functions, but it’s not quite as seamlessly integrated in the Fuji. I guess it’s also at the beginning of Fujifilm’s “let’s take off all the buttons and dials” movement, leading to the minimalism of the X-E4. Nice concise video. I have recently purchased a near mint x-t3 from mpb in the UK for £709. A steal. I was a serious X series shooter a few years ago but sold my gear and lost my love for photography a little bit since 2017 and am just getting back into it. I purchased an x-pro 3 but didn’t gel with it and I felt I couldn’t justify the price when the X-T3 will deliver basically identical finished product and is less esoteric to use. I am so glad I ‘downgraded’ it just feels so nice. I do tend to agree about the grip, although that’s never something that really troubled me back when I had my X-T2 - but I did manage to pick up a new non-battery official grip for the X-T3 and it is a similar feeling to that which you express in the video but a lot more compact. It’s a game-changer in feel and so tastefully done. Plus it was an absolute steal at £19 from Jessops on clearance!
Currently I am also possibly having buyers remorse on my two lenses I currently own the lovely but sadly not weather sealed and a bit auto-focus shy Zeiss 32/1.8 and the also not weather sealed but cheap and cheerful XC 50-230mm. I can’t help but feel a 23mm f2 and Tamron 50-300mm for about £100 more all in would provide a lot more bang for the buck, so I may move in that direction as well. Edit: spelling

Autofocus is good with the viltrox primes, but when the subject is in movement and you're shooting continuous AF it will struggle a bit

I have the X-T2 and will not be upgrading, as I am primarily a stills photographer. However, I have just purchased an Olympus C-5050 from 2003, so I can focus on what I am capturing, rather than how many pixels I am cleverly capturing it with. There is just something about the old CCD sensor too. Nostalgic?

I've just bought used X-T3, for me goal was to have wether sealing and faster, more accurate AF sometimes (own x-e1 and x-e2s). Overall, I would prefer to take X-PRO, but it have less value for me:
X-PRO3 screen not that versatile and limits genres to shoot, it also lost d-pad buttons.
X-PRO2 fixed screen and small evf.
So with all my love to rangefinders bodies fuji pushes me to take SLR styled body.

The X-T3 is often cheaper than the X-T30 II on the used market and the X-T3 is a much more advanced body (4K/50p, weather sealed, better EVF, dual card slot, better controls). The X-T30 II has one more built-in film simulation mode and some more "Jpeg recipe" options, but I don't think those are worthy trade-offs. The X-T3 is the best value used camera around 750 euros, the only feature that I miss is the IBIS.

2023 will be the year i go to Olympus cameras, because of two things, the resistence, and the reach of m43 lenses. In my country capital, Brasilia, i had a job to photograph the new president, and at somepoint, the firefighters throw water on the people because of the heat of the sun. My Nikon got wet, didnt damage, but if i had a full rughed camera, i would be more confident and stayed on that place with the perfect frame, but instead, i have run of fear, and got my self in a worse position, got the photo, but not that photo.

I have the 1d mk iv which I got at a phenomenal price.. Seeing as the camera is like 13 years old 😅😅😅. I love it and never imagined I would own one! But it is large and I want to have it on me more than I do etc etc.. It’s not that it’s too heavy for me, it’s just bulky, which I know sounds similar, lol. If I could keep that camera and buy a 5d mk iii (realistically, not ideally, ideally would be the 5d mk iv). The tones on those older Canon cameras is unmatched by the newer ones. They were trying to replicate the look of film all the way up until the 5d iii, IMO at least. And that’s what made them so beautiful to shoot.

Actually wasn't convinced by either X-T4 or X-T5 and happily keep the XT-3. The XT-5 was close but the 40 megapixels on one calles for better lenses whole the body itself and the lack of battery grip does feel a bit cheap in comparison with X-T2/X-T3 in hand.

I got a new xt-3 camera a few months before the pandemic, and even though I had to change the screen and the circuit recently (300 euros, ouch) I think it's a great camera. I was a little afraid as I do concert photography and going from full frame (Nikon D600 for me) to aps-c was a challenge regarding low light, but it's been rewarding anyway. Regarding the sensor, I love its quality so much that i'm getting an x-e4 as soon as Fuji decides to deliver some bodies to Barcelona.

I currently own an XT30. Got it for a ridiculously low price on Fb marketplace. I am tempted to upgrade to an XT30-ii (if one comes for a good price that requires me to spend $100 more after I sell the XT30) just for the faster autofocus as some of the action photos I take, especially slow moving cars come out as out-of-focus on the XT30. I am also considering holding onto the XT30 for another year to upgrade to an XT4 (ibis helps a bit) when those prices start to come down hopefully!

Really finding your reviews extremely Helpful! I appreciate the way you cut through the hype of the many cameras out here. I would like to ask you, can you recommend any camera or cameras to look into, that is Compact ( emphasis on that haha) or as Compact as possible, that I can use for mostly street , landscape, mostly, but can handle capturing fast , speeding vehicles, motorcycles , even some running or flying wildlife... a hybrid of sorts.. does something like this exist? It can be interchangeable lense or not. Thnak you in advance.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  6 месяцев назад

Het, glad you enjoy my reviews.
It depends on how compact you want. For flying wildlife you will need a pretty long lens that won’t be very compact. But a m4/3 camera will be as compact as it gets and can do all of it with the right lens. A GX9 isn’t too expensive used these days. But if you don’t mind bigger there is a number of GH and EM cameras in various prices.
Another line that’s small but fast is Sony a6000-a6700. Used some of them are very affordable. The lens needed for birds however will be quite massive compared to a m4/3 counterpart.
I think I will make this question into a video 👍

@mattiasburling Mattias! Wow, I GREATLY appreciate your reply! You're the first host who has responded with names to cameras. Immensely Helpful and Thankful to you for doing so. I'll say that for me, definitely the more compact the better. I had a guess that the lenses for wildlife would be laaaarge, but perhaps shooting fast wildlife life isn't a priority for me honestly, it would be on a super rare occasion. More so , I would like it to be able to capture, speeding cars, trains or the subway plus light n compact as possible to take on trips and catch vaca photos. I will definitely look into these cameras that u recommended and Definitely a video of yours would be highly appreciated. Perhaps if you could also mention not only some cameras, but also some general specs to look for In cameras and lenses that would work best for these types of scenarios? Thank again. Much continued success.
