Is it too risky buying the xt5 now? I need a new camera asap and I’m so into Fuji but worries about the autofocus failing as everyone’s been talking about…
From what I’ve heard there’s still supposed to be an update to the firmware coming this month, that’s supposed to fix the AF. I would probably wait and see how that pans out.
The craze and lack of supply of the X100 VI is just motivating me more to save and wait for the xpro4 announcement. I reckon we will see a lot more small form factor/ range finder ish cameras from multiple companies in the next couple years too!
Yeah people want pocket gear with crazy specs. Majority of it is for social media so something that fits into pocket but gets sick results is a huge market. Phones are getting better but you cant replace a factor of a physically bigger sensor. Gone are the days where people want powershot point and shoots with 1 inch sensors, that stuff is already in phones. You gotta find a way to cram a crop sensor with at least 4k video at a decent compact size and good price to be competative in that market. Stuff like fuji's latest X-M5 is gonna be killing it. Brought a Lumix S5 with (BIG and HEAVY) 1.2 lens on a trip once, thing was a nightmare. Id rather pull out a small Fuji or Sony with a pancake lens for convinence, not looking for studio grade shots on a vacation trip.
i just hope they fix the auto focus issues and software os issues.... my word how can latest software make focusing worse on nearly all 40mp sensor models -.- fuji needs to revamp its software asap
Sony firmware updates are at least as bad. I didn’t even upgrade my A7IV with the last firmware because of horror stories of it literally bricking cameras. Even the previous update bricked my mic jack. At least with my X-S20, it has relatively decent AF and when I plug in my Rode mic it actually works lol!
Points very well presented. Problem with Fuji is that it became very popular as a life style item through social media. Fuji cameras 3 yrs ago on the used market where not only quote rare but also quite cheap. Similar to what Lumix is currently.

@@KevinRedder because of the compact nature on the camera and lens I used it was convenient to take everywhere and I did. The rangefinder like setup works great for a camera of that size. I was clearing out gear and at the time had a X-T2 which was feature wise a superior camera. Looking back though I think it one of the cameras that actually inspired me to go out and make images where otherwise I may have not. I traded that X-T2 for a Leica M3 and currently also have a X-T10 that I got for $200. That X-T10 is also great but I prefer the look and feel of the X-E2s. It Fuji released a X-E5 next year I may have to treat myself or see if prices on the used market drop.
I wish fuji would beingback the gfx 50r . It's was popular for being affordable and compactish for medium format . Or maybe even go little wild with a gfx digital xpan . They could put 2 xtrans sensors side by side which would give a aspect ratio of 47x15.6 or 3:1 which is sort similar to 65x24 or 2.7:1 ratio of xpan

@@DalsPhotography Uhm maybe try going through their website, I would imagine there is a support there. I’ve heard about the AF a lot and unfortunately no fix yet. I can only imagine they’re working on it.
1:54 Unfortunately, the Fujifilm autofocus flaw is caused by the mount, more specific by the communication speed lens-2-camera. This is the reason why this fault can never be addressed in full. So Fujifilm has been outperformed by Canon and Nikon who waited for the other players to make mistakes and to learn from their mistakes. Part of the learning was Canons R-mount and Nikons Z-mount which are way more sophisticated than the mounts of Fujifilm or Sony.
I fear that an X-Pro4 will be overwhelmingly complex, especially when coming from an X-Pro2. I hope they will offer a toggle between intermediate and expert mode.

But I assume it would take some time until a camera like that is released, maybe end of 2025 or in 2026? But that’s just speculation.
Just like the Fuji eco I wish they did it with slr or rangefinders to be able to shoot 35mm film and 120 using adapters and choose which images u want to expose
i just want an x-pro 3 with ibis tbh. i LOVE my x-pro 3 and i don't want them to fuck with the screen. having no screen is amazing. my number 1 wish would be for the 4 to have a real rangefinder system coupled with the lens. that would be goated. i hate that to use manual lenses i have to use the LCD viewfinder.
@@lukasbenjamin_ yeah probably about three times it's cut out. i closed the screen and reopened and it worked again. im not really fussed if it completely died tho tbh. i don't use it at all. i just want all the gadgets out of my damn way. just the dials and the shutter all i need. gorgeous camera.
Many thanks for the excellent video, as always. The question you raised at the end is really thought provoking. Personally, I think this over hype is not justified at all. All these people who sell 2nd hand at outrageous prices are just opportunists and not, sadly, true photographers. Professionals & hobbyists with self dignity won't do this.

As much as I liked Fuji, I switched back to Sony a few months ago with the a7cii. Sony AF is still way ahead of Fuji and for my vintage cravings I shoot film
I think if they really want to do something revolutionary with the X Pro 4, they should make it a version with a true rangefinder focusing system. Like the Leica M bodies. Manual focus on the X Pro bodies using the optical viewfinder is disappointing in my opinion. This is one of the reasons I haven't been able to bring myself to purchase one in the past. And from what I've seen in reviews, most users just rely on the EVF. But I feel that takes away from the ideal analog experience. Just wishful thinking. 🤔
Absolutely the sales of the X-pro3 and X-E4 are artificially inflated. Nobody has cared about these cameras until the supply shortage of the new cameras. I've been waiting nearly 7month for an X100VI, and I just sold my X100V for $2100, which is much more than retail. These companies are trying so hard to stick to their 10yr release schedules that they are releasing new cameras before they can even restock the current generation of cameras.
People moaning about the autofocus surprises me. I’ve been shooting wildlife with the 100-400 and 150-600 with my xh2 since it was released and it’s been great for me. No firmware updates just tweaking the settings to work for me. On my shorter lenses - 33mm f1.4, hasn’t really been an issue either. After visiting some gallery exhibitions of wildlife photographers I noticed something - almost all of the photos weren’t “tack sharp” or even in focus. But they were still amazing photos. Sharpness isn’t everything.
After the first 5000 were distributed RUclips, Instagram, Threads, and whatever influencers, 1000 more were sold worldwide before they were "unavailable until 2029."

😂 Fujifilm can’t or won’t fix supply chain issues with the x100 - you can’t buy it anywhere so you have to go to the secondhand market to buy a camera you want? This is not acceptable and really bad to customers. Just don’t buy any Fuji cameras until they make the right models readily available. I realise people want these cameras badly but really just letting go and shooting with an available camera is the way forward. Problem I have is I love the classic chrome film simulation - it’s the only time I don’t have to adjust the colours in Lightroom so I know they do that really well. Makes me want my xe3 back 😢
Fuji is probably going to fumble the releases. They are purposely dumbing down their lines to widen the gap between "pro" and "amateur". All while raising prices. The X-E2 and X-Pro2 were ergonomically the best from these lines.
Fuji would throw a complete spanner in the works if they released a smaller-body model with a full frame, x-trans sensor. I would flip. Ok, and then I woke up.. but you know what I mean. Not a fan of rangefinder-style so all this scarcity of xe4 etc is pretty meaningless to me. I get it, but the body shape to me is uncomfortable and surely doesn't warrant a premium over the regular dslr body shape. Each to his own eh. Cheers 👍
Yeah. That's because you cannot invent randomness. Distributing light with a non-schematic path is difficult. Film "dots" blend better together because we can't predict analogic noise, while we recognise digital ones. Also colour, colour is tricky. Colour can't be stored in memories like shapes. We have a faint memory of colours and are linked to feelings. We "feel" a feeling looking at an image and we prefer the colour schemes that match our predisposition. Ah and films are a dumb and UNIMAGINABLY expensive.

@@geofff6671 Most Fuji users admit that there are serious issues with Fuji AF. Maybe it simply doesn’t concern your type of photography. If you get as many keepers with your Fuji taking pictures of fast moving objects as with a recent Sony you’re a miracle.

Again fuji miss an opportunity. They need to bring about a budget X-A or X-M camera it is way past time they had a sub 300 body and option to pair it with any XC lens and a few of the XF lenses.
Mmmm I don't think I will consider Fujifilm again. I have an X 100F, it has been sent back twice due to issues. (well known} still not operating properly. Autofocus is a Hit or Miss function. Soft lens GFX100SII = Micro HDMI, SD Cards, Freesing, very slow buffer plus other less than good items that you mentioned. I Have owned 5 x 4", Linhof Kardan Master L system, Blad ELM 500, RB 67 Art Panorama 6 X 17. Being mechanical mostly, reliability was excellent. In my experience, the full frame Pro bodies, Z9, Canon and too many issues to even consider Sony. As a pro, none are reliable enough to do a crirical shoot with only one body. Today's crop of offerings mostly come from the manufacturer complete with in-built faults and WE hope that some time in the future, a firmware update will fix these issues! We are all playing "their" game now. We Pay the highest price for the worst example. 3 to 4 years later when some of the issues have been addressed; .. Out comes the new one complete with all it's faults! Yes some faults carried over. (Fujifilm)..... Reliable? ... No.

it's not the 5th gen sensor that's the problem for the AF, it's the firmware. they worked great at launch, but they updated the firmware and broke it.

X-E4, I once wanted to buy that kind of camera, but when I got enought money, the camera is gone...
X-E4 is a great little gem… the X-H2S is better in every way, but not nearly as small and nimble
I strongly suggest start looking micro four thirds, i use Fuji for pro work, Olympus for everything else

I own the XT1 and XPro1. Both classics with the XTRANS 1 sensor and they both produce beautiful pictures.

They should really concentrate on bringing a better App - part of the reason we sold all of our Fuji GFX gear and went with Hasselblad X

The XE4 was on par with the xt30 / 30 II and the now updated model xt50 did receive IBIS, so my assumption is, XE5 will also have IBIS.
Hey Fujifilm! Make the next X Pro model with a FF sensor, then at least the name of these models will be justified - X Pro!

I would bet that it’s a 50/50 shot between a GFX 50r ii / 100r and a x pro 4. God I hope it’s the x pro 4
XE-5 XE-5 XE-5 ... Many of us who use X100V or X100VI who want different focal length are waiting XE-5. And you Fuji, you can sell more lenses.

XPro 5 should NOT be like XPro 3. Hoping they go back to XPro 2 typethings, with modern sensors etc

Serious: Fuji AF is ridiculous compared to the competition.
@dirkpehrke9909 I shoot Sony, Fuji and Olympus and have no issues with Fuji AF. If you can't focus with Fuji then move on, but don't blame the camera.
@@geofff6671 Most Fuji users admit that there are serious issues with Fuji AF. Maybe it simply doesn’t concern your type of photography. If you get as many keepers with your Fuji taking pictures of fast moving objects as with a recent Sony you’re a miracle.
@@geofff6671 sony A6000 (released on 2014) has better autofocus than XH2S. This makes you wondering how incompetent they really are, unable to fix it long term.
I agree. Its more than good enough. I have manual focus rangefinders so when I use even old autofocus, it seems amazing LOL

Again fuji miss an opportunity.
They need to bring about a budget X-A or X-M camera it is way past time they had a sub 300 body and option to pair it with any XC lens and a few of the XF lenses.

I have an X 100F, it has been sent back twice due to issues. (well known} still not operating properly. Autofocus is a Hit or Miss function. Soft lens
GFX100SII = Micro HDMI, SD Cards, Freesing, very slow buffer plus other less than good items that you mentioned.
I Have owned 5 x 4", Linhof Kardan Master L system, Blad ELM 500, RB 67 Art Panorama 6 X 17. Being mechanical mostly, reliability was excellent.
In my experience, the full frame Pro bodies, Z9, Canon and too many issues to even consider Sony.
As a pro, none are reliable enough to do a crirical shoot with only one body.
Today's crop of offerings mostly come from the manufacturer complete with in-built faults and WE hope that some time in the future, a firmware update will fix these issues! We are all playing "their" game now.
We Pay the highest price for the worst example. 3 to 4 years later when some of the issues have been addressed; .. Out comes the new one complete with all it's faults! Yes some faults carried over. (Fujifilm)..... Reliable? ... No.
