Fuji Fam! Lemme know your thoughts on the continuing autofocus saga. As an X-T5 owner, I was definitely disappointed that they did not mention a firmware update (fix?) for it.
Thank you Pete. I own a lot of fuji bodies and cams. The very first thing I do every morning now is to search if a firmware to address the AF issues has been released. Pathetic yes. Everyday. Everyday. Since the 4.0 update came out! It's really really frustrating. Fortunately for Fuji, I'm in asia not in the US or CAN where it would be easier to sell all my gear and replace them. Right now I feel like a hostage to fuji's systems. And please dont even talk about new cameras! It's an insult!
I’m glad you uploaded this video Pete. First, because it’s a great video! Second, I totally agree with you about the X-T5. And lastly, you are real, honest, and straight up with everything you put out here. And that’s why your channel is so awesome! 👍
It’s great to see you both posting about it. We all have our camera issues and some might not. Either way, to know some people are having an issue is telling that things need to change.
@@danielschmaderer I don't think it's a coincidence that right after Chris spoke about this issue they addressed it. Thank you, Chris! You are the best at what you do. \
Fujifilm pinned a comment under their announcement video: Dear Customers, Thank you for your feedback and comments on our AF system performance. We've been working on X-T5, X-S20 and other models as well, to release the firmware within this year for improved user experience. We will communicate the details as soon as we have more information. We appreciate your understanding. As much as I expected updates on all the current gen cameras, they could've prevented a big chunk of the backlash they got on their announcement by simply saying this single sentence in the first place.
Thanks for sharing, Jake. I agree - why not just say this in the video?! They seem to keep making things worse by mishandling it. They gotta get one of those crisis managers or something LOL
This year?! I get that things take time, but anything that releases firmware that breaks features of any device needs to be addressed quickly. I’ve seen videos of people posting about the xt5s AF issues with the new firmware for months now. That means for almost half a year, people have been unable to use their camera the way they should be able to. The fact that they left out xt5 and other cameras in their original statement makes me think the only reason they added this comment was to poorly attempt to shut people up.
@@KGTv123 Who knows. I am not an expert here but I would imagine it takes a few months to make a firmware fix and that they've been working on it for a while.
People are coping. This is a hardware problem lol. Even the version 1 of their firmware have horrible auto-focus compared to competition. The fix for this is a new generation of hardware, which they are rushing now. You heard it here. Poor customers, getting fleeced.
As an owner of an XH2s since near launch, a 150-600mm, 50-140, 16mm 1.4, viltrox 13mm, helios 44-2 predominately doing raves (dj's etc),surf photo and video - 100% I've noticed the autofocus issues as use the setup in some pretty extreme environments. I also remember the outrage re ISO not being available on a dial (which fuji sorted)and remember the firmware where autofocus worked best. Im not dismissing the AF issues and yes Fuji have been slow in responding to why it got worse but i'm glad they have finally addressed it and are looking to improve it (hopefully they do). What I'm also very aware of is the society we live in these days has ZERO patience! Everything needs to be now and the best and then the next best and yesterday. The simple concept of patience seems gone. Again, I'm not dismissing the issues and people have spent lots of money on their gear but there are hardly any companies making technology these days that get it right first time, mess up communications to users or make mistakes. sometimes we need to have a little patience and appreciate the market these companies are trying to survive in when everyone wants the next big thing. Something that is also really obvious watching you tube and most social platforms (and this isnt a pop at your channel to be very clear). There are far too many clickbait hooks and channels/accounts literally driving the "how can i get the most likes" way of working. So don't be surprised when seeing the "why i sold my Fuji gear and switched to Sony" why i switched from Sony back to fuji" videos. It isn't always about actual issues and actually accounts driving their likes and traffic based on a certain known thing. Yes there are issues with the fuji but there also issues with other companies, camera, cars, tvs, computers - insert anything here. Sometimes, in this crazy 10000 mile an hour world we live, you need to pause take a breath have some patience and then decide based on real world use and assess over a longer term.If its not for you move on but also be prepared to have some bumps with what ever you change to.
Thanks for this - I'm totally with you and agree. We gotta take a balanced approach, have patience, avoid the clickbait, etc. But Fuji needs to do better in communicating and definitely fix whatever is going on w the latest firmware updates.
100% There's a couple of channels just really made me not want to watch any of their content again. Same video again, and again, and again, while insulting anyone that has another experience to share, encouraging a mob mentality, that has now spilled out into other forums. Fujirumors has just become so toxic over this. Edvard, take a bow. I'd love to have seen videos raising the issue, inviting all viewers that have had the issue to contact Fuji directly and then to highlight how users can still get their shots in the meantime - especially for those that maybe came from a FF Sony/ Canon with almost autopilot AF. How I think Fuji could have addressed this without admission of guilt would have been to enable anyone that wants to to select a FW version of choice to use, even if it first required a factory reset. I'd be willing to bet most of the most vocal are enthusiasts/ hobbyists as you say expecting perfection yesterday. Even if it had been a big leap forward in AF, I'm sure the same people would be handing parity with the FF cameras that now live or die on superior AF because that's how they market them. However, a professional may not have the option of slowing things down a notch, so at least have an official route to walk back FW. I'm in the "maybe there's an issue sometimes, but I can live with it and still get good hit ratios" camp. But why not at least give people that choice. After all upgrades are optional - you can still use the gear on an ancient FW if you want.
The current AF problems are just more broad that it was in the past. Fuji AF has be getting worse since the X-T3 unfortunately. Even within the T3 the AF got worse as the FW numbers increased. Whatever methodology Fuji is using of creating their AF, they need to possibly go back to the drawing board.
Money is tight and I try to spend mine wisely. I read about the XT5 last year and bought one with expectations in line with Fuji’s promotional materials. The only thing I haven’t been disappointed with is their color science. Everything else has fallen short. Auto focus in a modern digital camera should be a given and should work and it doesn’t. In fact I don’t even use it anymore defaulting to manual focus for all my photography. I wish I could undo my purchase. Fuji knows they have a problem and refuse to admit and address it. I should have stuck with my iPhone, its autofocus works great! Thanks to Pete and Chris for continuing to keep this issue front and center for Fuji!
I am a bird photographer. I use the X-T5 with Fuji's very nice 100-400mm zoom. All my photos us AF-S. I was recently in the tropics and found myself swearing a lot at the AF. It can take a long time to get a lock on a subject. Several times, when pressing the focus button (I detached it from the shudder release button and put it elsewhere), I could see my subject blurred and the focus plane somewhere off in the distance. Using pinpoint center focus, I aimed carefully at the subject and tried to get focus and the same thing keep happening and after several tries, by some miracle, the focus locks on the subject which, of course, isn't sitting still. When shooting tropical birds, you have seconds to work with your subject and when the AF refuses to acquire the subject, it is soooo frustrating. The other incidence that gave me trouble is when background is complicated. For example, a tangle of vines with "light holes" all over the place. The subject can be in front of this tangle, but the AF insist on grabbing onto a vine or leaf and not the subject. I love my X-T5 in all other respects, the UI, color rendition, sensor size, body size, weight, etc., just not the AF.
I share your pain. I had your exact same set up but i was losing out on a lot of bangers. Fast, reliable, tracking AF is necessary for wildlife (and sports) and unfortunately Fujifilm doesn’t deliver it. After trying out my friend’s Sony A7iv and 100-400mm gm, it was miles apart in performance. I have since sold all my Fujifilm gear and swapped them out for an a7iii and a couple gm lenses. And you know what? This now sub £1000 6 year old body does a more reliable job of getting more keepers than the X-T5!
AUTOFOCUS ISSUES across multiple Fuji camera platforms. I love Fuji cameras & I am HEAVILY invested in their lens lineup. This is & will continue to be the ELEPHANT in the room. Fuji, please allocate the necessary resources to “fix” this issue with your camera bodies. I do NOT want to move to another camera brand, but I will absolutely not buy any more Fuji products until this problem is solved in a very significant way.
I appreciate your comments. As a new Fuji shooter (X100VI) and a long time Sony users I was ready for the AF issues. I hear you an others say "Of courses it's not going to be as good as a Sony." But why? My 5 year old A6400 has significantly superior autorfocus to my 5 month old Fuji. I don't think we should worry about the brand image of companies. That's not our job. I do love that X100VI though. Such a joy to use.
I own a Fuji XT-5 now and had a Fuji XT-3 before that. I also have 50 years of experience as a photographer--enough to know that with the exception of wide angle lenses stopped down to f/8 or smaller, Fuji AF-S is as accurate and reliable as I need it to be. That's not the case with AF-C or face/eye recognition though. Sometimes they work perfectly, other times they fail miserably. There's no way to predict for sure which it will be. I don't shoot a lot of sports, dance, or video so these limitations don't really cramp my style, but for anyone who does, think twice before buying a Fuji camera. Why gamble that Fuji will eventually fix the problem when brands such as Sony, Canon, and Nikon have had reliable mirrorless AF for years?
A few things: I worked most of my life in IT so I have a good idea why they spoke the way they did and why they appear to be taking an incremental approach to this problem. One of the challenges in software is to avoid breaking something when correcting other problems. There is a very structured way of handling bug fixes and that takes time. Each camera model has to be dealt with as a unique case. While the problem may be spread across the models, the engineers can't automatically assume that the same fix can be applied across the board without consequence. I've experienced the AF stalling that you described, only usually with telephoto zooms (70-300mm and 150-600mm). As you pointed out AF-S doesn't seem to have issues, but AF-C does. However, our settings also make a difference. If we're using AF-C, object tracking and we don't have our AF mode on TRACKING, well, expect problems. TRACKING mode is not a panacea, but it does make things a lot better. Make the TRACKING box as large as possible if our subject is moving all over the place. We will still get the AF stalling, but the reliability of tracking will be improved .
Hi Pete, I found your channel from watching Chris’s channel. I find both channels very informative as a FujiFilm shooter. I have to admit at the moment I wish I hadn’t “upgraded” from the XH1 to the XH2. The only thing I can say is I’m glad that FujiFilm appear to be trying to communicate with its customers “at last”. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks so much - I'm hopeful they will sort it all out. The XH2 is such an awesome camera, I had one for a few months on loan and was so pained to send it back. AF was excellent, images were beautiful.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Love the camera but wish that they would test the firmware upgrades before releasing them and not use their customers as “beta” testers 👍
Thanks to you and others for posting your informed opinions on this but as an XT5 user I want to say that I have not had AF issues with this camera. I mainly shoot landscapes, informal portraits, and street scenes with the 18-55 2.8-4 kit lens and the 35mm 1.4, with the most recent firmware, and my images are very sharp. I don’t shoot a lot of moving subjects. It might be helpful for you to show the images you’re getting and the settings you used - maybe I’m just not looking closely enough at my work. Pete I tried the “foreground/background” focusing exercise you described having problems with and mine jumps to proper focus very quickly and dependably, and that’s with the older 35mm. I doubt this has bearing, but I bought my XT5 within a couple months of its release.
@@PeteCocoPhoto OK then maybe that should be stated in the many videos popping up all over RUclips now about the “autofocus issue” so people looking at the positives of a camera like the XT5 (or Fujifilm cameras overall) won’t be scared away? I assure you I am in no way affiliated with the brand outside of owning the camera and three lenses, but maybe be more specific about the problems you’re seeing. Sports photographers would probably tend in the Canon direction anyway and maybe wedding photographers or the like dependent on tack sharp images of moving subjects. For landscapes, informal portraiture, and even street scenes, I’m happy with my XT5 so I just want to reassure people who might be like me that maybe it’s worth a try. That said, thanks for your work!
@@Mitch-e2e I'm with you. I've done some vids just like that and I was called a shill haha. There's no winning. I said my peace and I'm moving on. After the next firmware update I will have something to say and hopefully all good. There are entire channels dedicated to bashing Fuji.. I don't get it. If you hate the brand that much just go buy a sony already LOL
There are multiple issues with Fujifilm AF and I have experienced them on both the X-S10 and the X-S20. Same sensor but different processor of which the 5th gen processor is supposed to be a significant upgrade. I am going to outline these issues as I have experienced them and my choice to mitigate or avoid dealing with them. 1. AF-S for photos. Single point, somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd smallest so that the box is big enough to detect contrast, but small enough to be focused on a specific area, is just not accurate. This is the most basic type of AF and our cameras still miss. At this time, I am using MF with peaking AND back button AF-S. This allows me to see the focus peaking and the green box to confirm that I have focus on my subject. 2. AF-C for photos. I mainly don't use this unless I am in burst mode so that at least some of the photos are in focus. Pair AF-C with zone autofocus area, but I mainly avoid using tracking AF unless the subject motion is minimal and there are no other distractions in the frame. On the newer cameras, you can sometimes pair this with subject/face detection, but it currently is incredibly unreliable. Face detection will bounce around if there are more than one face in the scene, eye detection will make this even worse. If you use any sort of auto exposure (ISO, SS or aperture) your exposure will flutter up and down like crazy, making any auto modes with subject or face detection un-useable. Animal or bird subject detection will fail to detect and instead lock onto a plant, tree, wildflowers, leaves, or something like a pillow or tissue box if using it indoors. It is completely broken, plain and simple. 3. Video AF-C. I use this far less because I'd rather shoot video on my phone. That's how worthless it currently is, and how good iPhone video is on my 14 Pro. AF-C with a large single point AF area can be fine if you're shooting a general scene at higher apertures (also, the hell isn't Zone AF an option in video??? It could be better suited to moving subjects within the set zone area rather than a large single point) . Otherwise it will pulse between the foreground and background if it loses focus. Good luck moving the zone around the frame to maintain focus on a particular subject or area. Next is the new Tracking AF feature. Once again, it's alright if what you're doing is simple, but when it fails, it will completely ruin your clip. Lastly, if you are shooting a single person moving around the frame, a wide area with face detection actually works okay. It will look at the entire area within the frame and find a face/head/body. But, the AF accuracy and stickiness is still poor and can pulse or lose focus. It can also find faces within other objects, a common issue with Fuji Face and Subject detection modes.
Thanks for the thorough description. I'd so want to buy into the X-S20 but it just doesn't cut it currently. If Fuji had a decent AF, no other brand would have any business in competing with Fuji in APSC business. The rest of the Fuji camera specs just blow everyone else out of the water, so it's such a shame.
Enjoy your channel Pete, always good information. I remember some time ago Jarred Z posted a video about the AF on the XT5. He found the face and eye detect to be way behind Sony. Needless to say, he got a lot of negative feedback. And like you said, here we are, still talking about Fuji AF-C issues. All of us can only talk about our experiences right. In my experience with what I shoot, people, families, sports, The Fuji X-T5, X-S10 when shooting sports, it's competent using Single Point and Zone focus but still not as solid as my Canon's (R5, R6II). Face/eye, bird, animal, it's just not as good as the Canons, so much so, I don't use it at all. As an ex-high end software developer, I think some of Fuji's tracking algorithms and presumptions are not as solid as Sony/Canon. The technology certainly exists but Fuji hasn't figured it out yet. I use my X-T5 a lot, I love the prime lenses, love the look of the photos but when it comes to tracking and detecting, they still have work to do.
I went back to Firmware 2.01 on my x-h2 and it's acceptable now. You have to find the firmware you want (pre-AI autofocus) and change one specific digit in the code using a hex editor (to trick the camera into thinking it's a newer firmware). Then install normally off of an SD card. At your own risk
The Fuji autofocus issues is the only thing stopping me from buying a fuji camera. Its a toss up between fuji or sony and I'd love to go fuji because of the dials and film-sims etc, but the af is very discouraging.
Hi all. These settings work for me on x100vi and xt-50 Auto Focus C AF Mode:Wide Tracking AFC Custom setting C: Custom setting 6 Tracking sensitivity highest, Speed tracking lowest, Zone Aerea Centre Pre- Autofucus: On Face detect on face only Release/Focus priority AFC Release Set back dial up for back button Focus CL low speed burst set to 3 Customise ISO Auto settings to suit Hope these help, give these a go for portraits or street.
I got some good ones too but I definitely noticed a much lower hit rate, as well as some weird anomalies with the AF. At this point I think they need to do better.
@@PeteCocoPhoto yeah I agree. I hope the fixes with the AF addressed with the higher end cameras trickle down to the X-T5. I love the camera, but it’s a shame to see the state of where it’s at sometimes. Great video as always. Don’t worry about people getting frustrated on your take. We all shoot differently in many different situations and subjects with completely different settings. The fact that you and Chris are posting videos about Fuji for the good and the bad is much more important and helpful than you can imagine.
This video is a great example of what I have been telling people lately. I don't care how big your company is...any business can fail without proper leadership and fantastic customer service. It's like Apple...if you are in the ecosystem...you don't WANT to change. The Fuji ecosystem is the same. I love my Fuji files. My recent wedding my 2nd shooter was Canon ( I was Canon for 24 years before Fuji) and my files looked better to me. Maybe it's Capture One because I swear C1 was married to Fuji. I don't like Lightroom on my Fuji files. We all shoot raw so everything looks great when processed but seeing both cameras side by side was interesting to me. We all NEED Fuji to step it up because we know they can. This feels like they don't want to! Take care of your clients and they will take care of you.
Fuji has been "trying" to address AF for a whole decade now. They do improve but always falls short of expectations. Either over hyped under delivered or competition leapfrogged them.
Pete another good video I have used Fuji for a number of years My big thing is sports, I don’t use Face detect ever as I want control where I focus I shot over 1,000 frames at my last event, very few were not good . I just got my XT-5, so I will do my own test. I did see your sports video . Sometimes firmware will mess things up . Thanks for doing this work
Thanks Coco, let's hurt their brand, but for their own good! The X-T5 is my very first Fujifilm camera, I love it and I won't be selling it anytime soon. And I was planning to buy an X-S20 and eventually an XF 150-600mm or maybe the rumored 500mm F5.6 but with their current AF-C? I better spend elsewhere. At this point it's unacceptable that we receive firmware "updates" that actually "downgrade" our expensive cameras. I don't even care if fuji releases their Gen 6 processor cameras, I would still rather wait until after a couple of years and see if they FINALLY fix and don't ruin AF-C. Just as you mentioned, the prospect of a new Fuji camera with a new sensor is the least exciting in, like, ever. Kudos to you, Chris from pal2tech, Iamtongue and all other creators for making noise about this, we need you! But the BIGGEST kudos should go to edvard and his series of videos about the atrocious X-H2s autofocus performance.
I still am going to be hopeful that they will get it fixed. The trade off in switching brands is better autofocus but a downgrade in every other way IMO - the colors, the camera handling, etc. That's why I love my Fuji cameras in the first place lol
@@PeteCocoPhotoi switched from an xt2 to a sony a7r5 and I’m pretty happy about it. The handling is better than my xt2 tbh. No pb with the colours. The way Sony handles hybrid shooting makes more sense. Probably overpriced for what it is but I dont have to worry about focus anymore. I know my pictures will be in focus 90% of the time. My brain can be dedicated on how ti be a better photographer and less on the technical bits. IMHO.
Fujifilm user waiting and waiting for auto focus improvement. I want to upgrade but my feelings are to wait until the end of the year, then switch to Sony or Canon if no real fixes occurs.
I am in the same boat as you. Gonna wait until sometime between Black Friday and New Years. If the AF issues still persist (update or not) then I am done waiting and will be switching to either Canon or Nikon full frame.
I have owned three Fujifilm camera - Xt1, Xt3, and 100v. Each time I was hoping for an improvement in both AFS and AFC. The single point has improved (but still misses) but the afc is not acceptable. Fujifilm, if you are listening, you can bump the megapixels, you can add Ibs, you can do whatever, but if the picture isn’t in focus you just end up with a large, stable out of focus picture. I really want to buy an xt5 but until the focusing issue gets sorted out, no. Instead of investing in ibs and megapixels, invest in your software’s!
Pete - First of all I appreciate very much your candor (as I do Chris’ on Pal2Tech). I LOVE my X-T4 and was considering going ahead and biting the bullet to buy a new X-T5 but with all that I have heard about the autofocus, and with Fujifilm’s lack of motivation to correct what is obviously a software problem, I think I will skip the X-T5 and carry my Nikon Z on my next big trip even though I prefer the Fuji for a number of reasons. One comment: you did seem to pack 5 minutes of substance into a 14 minute video. I’m a cut-to-the-chase kind of guy so I like things short and to the point. (I DID, however, watch the whole 14 minutes!)
Sad... just when I was falling in love with an X-T2 and thinking on getting a X-T5. OTOH, this video comes just in time to stop my GAS and wait until Fuji gets the AF right.
Well stated and a very informative video. I really want to love Fuji-film cameras, but the autofocus is something that lacked for years behind all other brands. This is why I am not sure of getting even a GFX camera. I want something like the GFX 100S II, but that is allot of cash for a camera that has a sub-par focus system.
Thank you. With the GFX, you should expect a slower overall experience. The focus, the operation of the camera, saving data. But at least with the medium format people expect that, or at least shoot. Ironically, Fuji has been plugging the X100 II as a sports setup, with the new telephoto lens, and again, I just don't understand their marketing angle here.
Ha!!! Love the intro.... and the saga goes on. We'll see if they got those engineers busting their tails on this issue. Hopefully they have been doing so. On another note regarding the supposedly new camera with new sensor. Any thoughts? I had someone tell me in a video comment that it is going to be a full frame camera with an L Mount. Interesting! Should be fun hear all the guesses about this new camera. Have a great weekend Pete!!!
As my XT-3 needs replacing, I was all set to get one the new cameras. I loved my XT-3. It had most of the features I wanted, except good auto focus for moving subjects. As an enthusiast I am fine with the smaller sensor. But reading about all these issues with af and also reading that the ruggedness built into my Xt-3 seems to be lacking, I am now thinking of going to OM-1 Mark II. Reviews have been excellent. AF rivals Canon and Sony. What I can't understand is how a small company like OM can get it right and Fuji can't. Both have access to the same technology.
Hi Pete...In the meantime... for our shoots next week ... while waiting for that AF fix or the decision to jump and ditch our beloved fujis... What would you recommend as the best settings for AF Continuous for the XT-5 Its the season for upcoming family gatherings and kids running... ... would really appreciate the practical advice. Thank you in advance
I did a vid on this a while back: Fujifilm X-T5 BEST Autofocus Settings XT5 XH2 XH2s ruclips.net/video/KpLAEIMWh_U/видео.html But currently I’m shooting in af-s which I suggest if you have been having issues
„They better get it right this time“ best quote for the situation. I would really appreciate an official firmware downgrade possibility to past firmwares, just in case they don’t get it right…
@@PeteCocoPhoto I watched that previously but I would like to see you as the artist being highlighted. Maybe Chris @pal2tech could help with collaboration and filming.
I’m glad you uploaded this video! I love my Fuji X-T5 and use AF-S only. I downgraded my firmware to 2.10 from 4.0. Had to give up some features but I’m seeing less out of focus shots. Also in AF-C is noticeably better. Hope Fuji releases a firmware that addresses this. Sony and Nikon have been on my mind….
Same here, since going back to v2.10 a while ago, the actual focus aquisition got better again. It is still not perfect and I think the actual tracking stickiness was better with v4.00 in certain situations, but I get more in focus shots nonetheless / better hitrate.
@@sstokoe2301 it’s a risky process. I recently did a video about it. There are others who have done it on RUclips as well. Just look up downgrading Fujifilm firmware.
@@sstokoe2301 I did a video about it recently. There are others who have done that as well. Just look up how to downgrade Fujifilm firmware on RUclips. I don’t really recommend this for everyone as there are risks.
I have to believe they know and have known it is a problem, but they are afraid to overpromise and undeliver so it must be terribly difficult to fix and I ask, what’s the difference and I come back to the x-trans sensor. It must be that tge same thing that leads to beauty and great moise makes acquiring focus extra challenging and (used to) make weird moire in lightroom. Because otherwise why wouldn’t they just (quietly!) steal a sony and reverse engineer it!
I bought XT-50 to upgrade from X-E4, and I use only single point and AF-S the X-E4 face and eye recognition does work 70% of the time, when I started using X-T50 in AF-S, the face and eye detect always show up in the screen, but the focus work 10% only. This is truly disaster, I disabled face and eye detect, and will only use single point.
I've been using single point as well, but for portrait work it's not the end of the world. But I was using face/eye detect for the longest time before that.
I finally made the switch to Sony. I love Fujifilm and been a Fuji user for ages. The X-T5 was my baby. The ergonomics, the colour science and feel was just perfect. But the false positives of the autofocus green boxes was just excruciating. I wasn’t even shooting client work when it finally dawned on me how slow and inaccurate the AF is. Yes i can shoot MF. Yes i use Zone focusing out on the streets. Yes i can use single point AF in most use cases. But reliability and SPEED is important for client portrait/ event work. I now shoot with an A7iii with a few GM lens and even this 6 year old camera’s autofocus is miles ahead! Not to mention the other FF benefits. I would love a Fuji as a compact travel camera. But they don’t even have X100VI in stock! 🤷🏻
Gracias por dar voz a nuestros problemas, tengo una X-T5 que no es precisamente barata de precio. espero una solución de parte de la empresa, un saludo
I was tempted to sell my X-T3 for an X-S20 or maybe even go all the way to the X-T5. At the end of this month, my family's traveling abroad visiting a country with the Autumn foliage in site. I can just imagine how worrisome this AF situation would be had I gone that route even if I often use Single Point AF. Because there'll be a big chance, though occasionally only, that I'll be using AF-C with my 4-year young daughter running around enjoy the sites.
I have the X-T5 and X-H2S; if the new firmware does not fix this issue, I will sell my Fujifilm X-Camera Gear and Lenses and purchase the Panasonic Lumix S5II System. They had almost two years to resolve the problems, but they did not. No other camera system is having this problem.
Autofocus has always been an issue with Fuji. I don’t know why its still not fixed. Shooting Sony now and it’s good to be able to think about all the other things that makes a good picture.
For me, on the xt5 and since I have upgraded to the 4.1 firmware, the AF doesn’t work whether it’s on AF-s or Af-c with or without eye detect. I guess it’s a bit better without the eye detect as the AF is working less hard but it basically has a 70% fail rate on people walking normal pace. Before on the 3.1 firmaware I was getting those shots using AF-s and doing a very slight panning!!!
I am hoping that the mention in the video of their most expensive cameras is just a reflection of a culture that calculates the depth of their bow depending on the status of the person they are facing. I think it is mostly all the same code regardless of camera and hoping the X-T5 and X100 VI are not far behind. The sombreness of the presentation and featureless backdrop compared to the usual Fujifilm style was a measure of how serious they are. I hope.
Fuji really needs to get this AF situation right across all models this time. I think they are one misstep away from a lot of users leaving for the full frame brands.
Saw the video it’s about portraits and I suppose daylight or studio lights, do you think that I can try those settings in a low light action environment (the concert pit) with the xt4 anche have improvements?
To me is frustrating that people are full on claiming that Fujifilm AF is crap because of this issue. I shoot birds and wildlife, and the AF-C is spot on for this use-case. If I can capture an eagle at full speed on a 600mm, it is obviously a very capable AF system. It does have problems with human eyes in motion for whatever reason, but if they can nail a birds eye they should be able to also nail human eye AF. This smells very much like a small bug being blown out of proportion because it affects a large use-case.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Yes for sure. I am mainly looking at this from a software engineering perspective to be fair. If I had to guess, the fix will turn out to be quite trivial (just given the complexity of their other AF algorithms that do work really well) and I think we are currently being held back by Fuji's company culture and the fact that they seemingly do not have close ties with their community. This issue was surfaced such a long time ago that it's obvious that they are lacking community management.
@@vetobadmusic I've said it a number of times - this next software update is gonna make or break them. if it doesn't work well, people are gonna flee in droves, and some already are
Any date for this new firmware update? WILL it be 8? I’m a video guy really close to selling all my Fuji equipment including Xt4 and Xh2s and all lenses I have if they don’t fix this terrible problem with AF. Thanks for all your amazing videos. Sergio Cardoso
Is it true that the problems arise mostly when you use AI subject detection? Using an M43 system, I've found that subject detection is no better in my hands than choosing a small or a mid-sized focus target. So in Fuji, is it the AF, or it it the AI that's defective?
My 2 cents about AF issue, I compared a bit and the tracking performance (AF-C) is greatly reduced when I have my diffusion filter on my camera (Glimmerglass 1). I’m not an expert but I guess it can be explained by the impact on sharpness and micro contrast.
They do contrast-based autofocus. That’s why shooting dark subjects or in low light is horrible. It doesn’t help that their AF breathing compensation is nonexistent. Canon lenses from a decade ago are better, so it’s not lack of lens technology as many apologists say. Fujifilm has serious software issues. From their websites, to their mobile/desktop apps, to their firmwares and QA.
I guess what irritates me the most is releasing the M5 which has better focus than my more expensive H2. It makes me feel like they made the sale and they really don't care about making it good for the Fuji Community. Instead they should #FujiFixUsFirst.
Fujifilm ought to fire all beta testers and everyone who released unfinished products. ”These things take time” - that’s not really an acceptable policy in a dying market with numerous alternatives without AF problems.
Ive been a fuji user as second body eith my xt20 and focus was atrotious. But i just thought fuji just sucks and is behind the rest. Its an old camera i get it. My main body is sony which is vastly superior in every which way. Its not even the latest sony bidy (a7m3). I just love fuji jpeg straight out of body....... So i just kept it . I recently bought xm5 not knowing fuji had all these issues with AF . I kind of keep away from all these reviews and just shoot..... But boy am i nervous now about xm5. I went on a rabbit hole on youtube ..... I sure hope xm5 works. I pre ordered and waiting for this.
I recently purchased the X-T5, and unfortunately, I'm experiencing the same issue with its autofocus - it's not performing well. I've missed a lot of shots, especially when using my 50-140mm f/2.8 lens, and many of them have turned out blurry. It's really frustrating, and I'm quite disappointed with its performance so far. For context, I'm a Canon user and have always been happy with the performance of my Canon gear. I switched to Fuji because I was attracted to the compactness and lighter weight of the system, but this issue has been a letdown. Please address this issue as soon as possible-people are getting increasingly frustrated as time goes on.
I am puzzeled because of the ongoing blaming of Fujifilm unreliable Continuous AF when it comes to action, sports and wildlife, with special regard bif. I mostly shoot my bursts with Continuous AF and Subject Detection at 20-30 fps and chose #6 with my adjusted custom settings. I have not suffered from an unacceptable hit rate. May be, my experience is due to settings which are not main-stream, because I rely on a small Zone 5x5, most of the time. I use that approach also for reframing static subjects and it works fine. However, I agree to expectation that Fujifilm communicate should be more customer oriented. If they believe that firmware is fine for stills photography, they should communicate that and provide more and clear guidance for avoiding frustrations, e.g. with regard to chooseing the best settings for differnt scenarios.
I know you saw my japanese idol concert photos and that was with the firmware 7.0 using the viltrox 27 pro. The AF worked awesome but it seems like it has a mind of it's own and just decides when it wants to work. it's like they found AI and it now is sentient LOL.
I have multiple X T-5's, they are all banging fast and accurate. I have zero complaints. Not sure who this is affecting. Proper set up is absolutely key.
I think fuji was well aware of the problem. all those firmware updates V3-V6, were attempts to fix it, but they rushed it and made it worse. As far as updates go, Flagships should go first, if that works, you will see it come to the rest. The point of naming a flagship is that it means they get first preference. The video AF and the still AF is the same thing, same algorithm. In your tests, did you notice if having Boost on made a difference? or if having AF + MF set to on changed anything? I've read multiple posts in multiply places talking about that.
agreed! I left Canon to go to Fuji and 1 year now and I HAVE NOT printed 1 print as they are NOT as good as Canon I feel I made a HUGE mistake going to Fuji I traded 20,000 of canon gear for 9,000 New fuji! I miss my Canons as I printed daily!!! Hope I get my x-t5 and my x-h2s on par to print images.
Hmm I am still using an XT5 and a Canon R5 and I absolutely love the images I get from the XT5. Most of the issues people are having is regarding the autofocus speed, so I'm surprised to hear this.
Chose Fuji XT-3 over Sony a7iii. That was 6 years ago. Sacrificed full frame and reliable autofocus for the love of color. I need an upgrade, and I’ve run out of patience. It pains me to think I will have to move to Sony. Autofocus is priority now. If it’s not priority for Fujifilm, then it’s time for a divorce. 6 years is plenty patient.
I chose x-t2 over the A7iii for the same reasons. Hours less time post processing is worth a couple of seconds extra thought engaging in the actual photography. X-t3 colours were therefore a bit disappointing to me. X-t5 nails the colours and is a world better at AF than the x-t2. But like the x-t2 is much more stills orientated. And while Fuji has moved forward - perhaps not at the same pace as the FF bodies - Sony colours are as they always were. I think it would be harder now coming from the AF system of a Sony or Canon. But that is the battleground for those companies now, that's where their vastly superior budgets get spent. It would be disappointing if they weren't better. I think it's a bigger issue perhaps for the x-h2s given the whole point of a stacked sensor is superior AF and performance. For the x-t5, coming from a long line of Fuji bodies, I'm plenty happy. And with the x-t5 spending even less time in post than ever.
It sucks to have to think about making these decisions. XT4 AF was never good, but I knew the limitations. They hyped up the new cameras so much that now people have expectations of much better performance, and they gotta deliver. The XT5 AF was excellent at first
@@PeteCocoPhotoI skipped a couple of FW updates going from launch day FW to 3.01 to 4.0. I felt the AF got stickier, but my keeper rate barely shifted from about 80-85% with mixed use, with over 50% with AF-C and face detect. Sometimes it struggles so I disable face detect then or switch back to single point, but that just feels to me the natural step that you just do to get the shot you want. It never felt like an end of the world situation. Maybe I missed some superior FW between 1.0 and 3.01, but I'm happy with the AF performance - or rather, I don't think it went backwards compared to the x-t3, but definitely much stickier. Maybe for someone like yourself who has access to the superior AF available on FF cameras it's a bigger deal to then pick up the Fuji and expect the same or similar? I only do a little video, which the coming FW seems to aim to address for the x-h2, but then again, that's why I went for the photo centric x-t5. Honestly what I'd really really like Fuji to introduce to the AF of the x-t5 is the superior customisability of the x100vi AF, which allows for customised zone shapes and highly customisable AF mode-all. Then just allow the user to select for zone and single point that face detect and subject detect only works within the selected area. This would make focussing on one face in a crowd much easier. But general AF performance, better is always nice, but on the x-t5 at least it gets the job done.
I thought the autofocus was comparable with the Nikon ZF? The XT5 is officially only mid-tier, so the updates will likely follow the flagships - XH2(s)
Oh I love this comment - well done haha. It WAS comparable. lol. Ironically I have another Zf on loan to do some more testing. After I posted that vid and go so much hate I figured I should give it another go lol
Fuji apparently is unwilling or financially unable to hire engineers on the level of those who work for the big boys. Let’s face it. The Fuji AF is unreliable. I went back to Canon and am happy I did.
I'm lucky to have a canon and fuji, it's been the best of both worlds. I love both for specific reasons and of course af is one of the best parts about Canon. It just does what it's supposed to without any issue
Even if Fujifilm solve the problem, the AF performance will still way behind Sony and Canon which is a sad fact. Also, Fujifilm is not communicating with users which is another huge problem. I can say Fujifilm is not professional anymore and dont care about professionals. Kinda betrayed.
The XT5 af was great - used it without any issues for all kinds of subjects. Not as good as Canon, but solid. They took a step back with it. Hopefully they can fix it.
I think Fujifilm responded way too late. They could have addressed the focusproblems much earlier, why did it take so long to tell us there's a problem?
This was what I've been saying for a while. Lot's of people have been testing - I tested mine but didn't post any photos because it was a kids theatre rehearsal. Even Fuji is half-heartedly acknowledging that there is an issue now.
Once again, thank you for your honest approach. I watched the Fujifilm announcement. It sounds like the Fujifilm spokesperson was mouthing words from their legal department. Lawyers tend to phrase things in a way that will limit their liability in all matters. And if photographers are having their livelihoods impacted by poorly functioning equipment it sounds like there might be liability issues. Sounds to me like Fuji is afraid to speak and that creates an environment where there is a lack of transparency. People do not respond well to a lack of transparency. That’s a shame because people are already leaving Fuji and selling their gear.
Many XT5 users say they do not have AF problems following the last fw update. Many have. At this point it is not impossible that some X-T5 models have different hardware components. So may be the fw update is behaving differently according to the type of components in that specific camera.
With the x-t50 there was an issue that only affected silver models that required a FW update. So who knows. But I doubt it's something like that. More likely different people shoot different subjects, with different lenses and different set-ups (e.g. flash and yes settings), and also have different expectations (life long Fuji Vs moved from another brand post the A7III earthquake.
@@PeteCocoPhotoI have a X-T5 silver since december 2022. I don't make videos. I never use face/eye detection. Mainly I use AF-S. After the last update, I noticed AF inaccuracy in both AF-S and AF-C, an increase of a sort of grainy/soft (digital noise?) effect in all pictures, flickering/pulsing of the screen/evf in artificial light. Thank you so much for your videos, Pete! After your video with Pal2tech finally Fuji reacted. 🙏
I have been a Fuji user since 2012. I upgraded to the XT5 in 2023 and was happy with its performance until the last firmware update. This summer I tried to take photos of my granddaughter competing at equestrian events. The results were so poor that I gave up on autofocus and shot only manual focus with better results. Fuji has been on a downward spiral since COVID with inability to supply the market with popular items, such as the 27 F2.8 MK II and the 70-300 and more recently the X100VI. I have lost faith in Fuji and recently ordered a Nikon ZF with a 24-120 zoom. I have sold all my Fuji equipment except my XT5 which I continue to use with Voigtlander manual focus lenses. Depending how well I get on with the ZF will determine whether I keep the XT5.
People seem to have overlooked this information from Fuji's video. "We've been working on X-T5, X-S20 and other models as well, to release the firmware within this year for improved user experience." You dont need to hunt around in the video for it, they pinned it as a comment. Or did this get added later?
I disagree. I've been using the XT5 alongside my Canon R5 for over a year and it's an excellent pro camera. It also depends on the kind of work one does, but for my portrait work, headshots, concert photography, etc, the 5 is awesome.
I personally haven’t had major AF issues, but I did start finding that AF-C with wide tracking was focusing slightly ahead or behind the desired focus plane. In single point or zone, no problem. After the most recent firmware update for the H2S, the hit rate was much better. But this is an obvious problem for lots and lots of Fujifilm shooters on multiple bodies. They dropped the ball. I feel that QA/QC was poor. These issues should have been caught pre-release for the firmware. But the talk about the bodies being “unusable” (which a lot of shitposters on RUclips and in social media throw out there) is wholesale misleading. I suspect a lot of these were new to this system. Others just want to tear them down. I agree with your final point, though. I am about to start winter bird shooting with the H2S. If Fujifilm don’t get the next firmware just right, there will probably be a big exodus from Fujifilm. Hopefully they understand this downside risk.
There are many comparison videos that show that Video AF is constantly hunting and not keeping up with subjects with the latest FW, I've seen so on a colleague's X-H2S myself. It was in fact absolutely unusable and unreliable for video until he downgraded it. This is a fact and has nothing to do with "sh*tposting".
@@JakeChambersOy I use the H2S for video. It’s not “absolutely unusable?” And I did not cal, every complaint shitposting. I said there are “a lot” which is 100% true. There are people who do nothing but shitposting. I’m here to give reassurance to people who might be a little put off by Fujifilm that the H2S and other bodies are not junk and actually perform quite well. There are known issues with the firmware and I am confident many of these will be resolved.
No, I didn’t rush to make a judgement, did research, listened to my viewers feedback, and based on all of this, I came to a well-informed conclusion. Sorry I didn’t jump on the bandwagon soon enough for you but I still use the xt5 every day with great results for my portrait work. The issue is as I described.
@@PeteCocoPhoto The issue with AF-C Face detect/Eye tracking performance has been reported since Spring 2023. It is absolutely OK if you prefer to use AF-S and I do not doubt that you use your X-T5 with great results. But it is also absolutely OK that people with cameras originally capable of very good AF-C + Eye Focus performance raised their voice as their cameras features have been degraded (more and more) by those numerous Firmware updates. Other people on RUclips have meticulously demonstrated the issues with AF-C + Eye on real life examples numerous times since Spring 2023. I personally switched from Canon R6 to Fujifilm X-H2s in November or December 2022 when the camera just hit the stores and I did it solely because of the camera performance I witnessed during my test of the camera in the store and I was very pleased with the results for some 4 months I used the camera in real life. I honestly considered the initial AF-C + Eye Focus performance of X-H2s to be on par and in some instances (distance on which the camera detects a person and Eye) better than that of Canon R6. Also, the issue is not just the ability to detect and track face or eye but very often a false positive. The camera indicates it got the focus (green box) but in fact it missed and you are left with unusable image. But we know all that already for more than a year.
I will remain loyal to fujufilm, but I'm not surprised at all ..for them it doesn't make them money to upgrade it However this doesn't make any sense to me My gut (blunt Australian guy) They don't care ....they have our and your money already and it's not going to expand their profit margins.. Even people leaving fuji they still make money from instamax .. AFC - single eye works better Use continuas low Sensitivity to 4 It works OK 👍 But it needs fixing The japanese will never admit there is a problem They are conservative The X00vi is still selling So again it's down to money To be completely ignored is baffling There is no way I could confidently take an XT5 into a wedding right now. Thankfully my GFX 100s II works wonderfully
I hope you are wrong about them not caring... time will tell! I am going to be cautiously optimistic about it. But as I've been saying, they really need to do better.
@PeteCocoPhoto maybe they care ...let's hope so But their actions need to afirm they care...a video they released doenst make me feel cared for. It's action 🎬 time now not words
I think they know if they don't fix issues, they are investing in Sony and Canon's ad campaigns. They know they'll lose customers or at least the customer's faith. They would be crazy as a business to not get this right.
I think they'll sort this out. They already know they have a reputation with AF and did a reasonable job at improving it as I can see in the jump from XT3 to 5. I lived in Japan for six years; the Japanese have such shame for mistakes. They'll get this worked out and probably offer a couple film sims.
@SensibleChuckle You have to remember that the majority of people that shoot fuji don't shoot portraits..... If you are a landscape photographer product photographer.... Or you just buying this camera For holiday and family photos.... the focus is fine
Fuji Fam! Lemme know your thoughts on the continuing autofocus saga. As an X-T5 owner, I was definitely disappointed that they did not mention a firmware update (fix?) for it.
Absolute true! Fuji has to apologise and fix it immediately !!!! 🤬😤

Fujifilm pinned a comment under their announcement video:
Dear Customers,
Thank you for your feedback and comments on our AF system performance.
100%
There's a couple of channels just really made me not want to watch any of their content again.
Yes I agree - AF should just work. Even if it's not as good as Canon, for instance, it's gotta be good. Thank you for the support!
Yep. Af needs some love!!
I do NOT want to move to another camera brand, but I will absolutely not buy any more Fuji products until this problem is solved in a very significant way.
at least they are acknowledging it
Imagine if one day they decided to remove the AF altogether
@@GungKrisna12 hahaha that would be amazing - they announce all the cameras are now manual focus. "photography first" LOLOL
Yes. Wow. I love your comment because it’s 1000% on point. Thank you!!
Right, if you are doing a lot of action, Sony, Canon, or Nikon are going to still be the winners here
A few things: I worked most of my life in IT so I have a good idea why they spoke the way they did and why they appear to be taking an incremental approach to this problem.
Excellent, thank you for this!
I think it’s dependant on the settings one uses but I didn’t experience issues for standard portrait stuff either.
It can also find faces within other objects, a common issue with Fuji Face and Subject detection modes.
thanks for the explanation!
Thanks to you and Chris for keeping us in the know
Enjoy your channel Pete, always good information.
The AF really is the main issue.
I'm already confused so I won't do that haha
The Fuji autofocus issues is the only thing stopping me from buying a fuji camera. Its a toss up between fuji or sony and I'd love to go fuji because of the dials and film-sims etc, but the af is very discouraging.
Hi all. These settings work for me on x100vi and xt-50
Auto Focus C
AF Mode:Wide Tracking
AFC Custom setting C: Custom setting 6 Tracking sensitivity highest, Speed tracking lowest, Zone Aerea Centre
Pre- Autofucus: On
Face detect on face only
Release/Focus priority AFC Release
Set back dial up for back button Focus
CL low speed burst set to 3
Customise ISO Auto settings to suit
Hope these help, give these a go for portraits or street.
Thank you for sharing!
Hi. Regarding "Release/Focus priority AFC Release". Did you find in improvement by not using the Focus priority?
As someone who mainly uses AF-C on an X-T5 with the 100-400mm, I do notice the lack luster AF, BUT I still come back with sharp images.
True!
Thanks for doing this work
My pleasure, thanks for the support!
Great video Pete. I`m waiting for Fuji to fix the stills (NOT video) auto focus on my X-H2.
Thanks! Same here w the XT5
IMHO.
I've experienced this too (XT-5). I tended to blame myself at first and moved on. Glad to know it's not just me.
It's hard to know what's user error sometimes but I definitely notices some funkiness in AFS w my last test and the latest firmware
Thanks Pete. I Will not update XH2 right away, I will wait for feedbacks first see how it goes. I don't wanna get burned.
At this point I think it's safe to wait it out until we know for sure.
Hahaha I know, I know, I tend to rant. 😆😆😆 this was unscripted too which didn’t help but thanks for sticking with it!
Sad... just when I was falling in love with an X-T2 and thinking on getting a X-T5.
OTOH, this video comes just in time to stop my GAS and wait until Fuji gets the AF right.
Wait until the firmware update. They now know it’s a serious issue so hopefully it gets sorted out
Well stated and a very informative video.
@@PeteCocoPhoto well stated sir. I live in Japan and would use the GFX 100S II (if I decide to get it) for travel photography of famous landmarks.
Thanks! It most certainly won’t be a full frame sensor.. unfortunately. I would personally love that
As my XT-3 needs replacing, I was all set to get one the new cameras.
Wait to see what they roll out next month in the firmware updated. The rumor mill says they are claiming they “nailed” it but we will see
Hi Pete...In the meantime... for our shoots next week ... while waiting for that AF fix or the decision to jump and ditch our beloved fujis...
What would you recommend as the best settings for AF Continuous for the XT-5
Its the season for upcoming family gatherings and kids running...

„They better get it right this time“ best quote for the situation.
I would really appreciate an official firmware downgrade possibility to past firmwares, just in case they don’t get it right…
Haha yes they just need to release an update that makes everyone happy. Good luck to them lol

Thanks for sharing - I was thinking of trying that too
How do you go back to the previous firmware?
Yep they definitely painted themselves into a corner here. They MUST get it right this time.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Thanks, I am keeping the XT-50, the sensor is great, I love the photos coming out of it.
I get it, my man. I'm not abandoning ship yet but I totally get it.
Gracias por dar voz a nuestros problemas, tengo una X-T5 que no es precisamente barata de precio. espero una solución de parte de la empresa, un saludo
Me too. I think they will sort it out soon!
It's that feeling of not being confident in the gear that's the worst.
Sorry to hear that. I'm hopeful for a fix.
Autofocus has always been an issue with Fuji. I don’t know why its still not fixed. Shooting Sony now and it’s good to be able to think about all the other things that makes a good picture.
Yes I get that. I much prefer using my Fuji for a lot of reasons but when using the Canon I don't have to think about focus at all
For me, on the xt5 and since I have upgraded to the 4.1 firmware, the AF doesn’t work whether it’s on AF-s or Af-c with or without eye detect. I guess it’s a bit better without the eye detect as the AF is working less hard but it basically has a 70% fail rate on people walking normal pace. Before on the 3.1 firmaware I was getting those shots using AF-s and doing a very slight panning!!!
Sorry to hear this - I've been using mine w a single focus point in AFS and it's been okay for now.
I hope.
Hope springs eternal. Lol
Fuji really needs to get this AF situation right across all models this time. I think they are one misstep away from a lot of users leaving for the full frame brands.
I hate to say it but I agree with you. Whatever fixes they release gotta work - and work great.
Pete what are the best af settings to shoot concerts with my xt4? Thanks a lot, enjoy your videos!
I did a vid on this!
ruclips.net/video/KpLAEIMWh_U/видео.htmlsi=ycjXyVnPRLcfpFis
I think the facts are prob somewhere in the middle

4.0 is the one everyone is blaming for the problems
@@PeteCocoPhoto I actually saw improvements but I shoot portraits and headshots so I compose very slow. Here’s hoping they release a patch asap.

Thanks for all your amazing videos.
Sergio Cardoso
Appreciate it Sergio. The updates are planned for November from what I've read.
Is it true that the problems arise mostly when you use AI subject detection? Using an M43 system, I've found that subject detection is no better in my hands than choosing a small or a mid-sized focus target. So in Fuji, is it the AF, or it it the AI that's defective?
Personally, I've had no issues using a single focus point in AFS.
Do you think they're going to release an X-T6 with fixes next year (or the year after)?
Wish I knew!
My 2 cents about AF issue, I compared a bit and the tracking performance (AF-C) is greatly reduced when I have my diffusion filter on my camera (Glimmerglass 1).
I’m not an expert but I guess it can be explained by the impact on sharpness and micro contrast.
Yes the filter will def make it harder for the camera to focus
I get that. I have no idea how their timelines work though
Fujifilm ought to fire all beta testers and everyone who released unfinished products. ”These things take time” - that’s not really an acceptable policy in a dying market with numerous alternatives without AF problems.
At this point I think everyone has been very patient
Im switching to Sony if Fuji Flop this firmware update to all X-Trans 5.
I have the X-S20
I don't think you're the only one considering this. They gotta fix the issues asap.
People are saying the af in the XM5 works well, but you will find out first hand soon!
They are supposedly working on an update for the xt5 but they didn’t give a solid date for its release
Nice hat ! Fender rulaaa ! 🤘😉
I'm a bass player, mostly upright but I started on electric and still use my fender jazz bass once in a while. I love it
I am puzzeled because of the ongoing blaming of Fujifilm unreliable Continuous AF when it comes to action, sports and wildlife, with special regard bif.
Shooting settings are part of it yes, but I have seen a big difference using similar settings that used to have a much higher hit rate
We need some Fuji Flakes tshirts Pete. C'mon its been too long already. Get with a graphic designer and make it happen 😁

I know you saw my japanese idol concert photos and that was with the firmware 7.0 using the viltrox 27 pro. The AF worked awesome but it seems like it has a mind of it's own and just decides when it wants to work. it's like they found AI and it now is sentient LOL.

I always shoot w boost mode. It works fine for portraits in afs, not so much for afc in my latest round of tests
Made the move to the Nikon zf last week. Never thought it was possible to have almost 100% in focus shots at 1.8. So glad I moved
@@brownbear100what color are you talking about? If you shoot raw Fuji or sony look exactly the same and if you are professional you only shoot raw
I do not trust Fuifilm anymore
To much issues.
I sold my Fujifilm for the Sony A7RV
I have more fun now
haha
I have all three and the AF on Sony and Canon isn’t that different to what we already had before firmware flop.
I think Fujifilm responded way too late. They could have addressed the focusproblems much earlier, why did it take so long to tell us there's a problem?
I agree
Did anyone produce any specific study other than people complaining? I myself made bad photo due to bad adjustment.
Thank you! I agree - they need to do better.
Fuji need sack all they’re software engineers and employ someone from Sony
I know nothing about engineering so I would not comment on that aspect of it. The last thing I want to do is hurt anyone's job.
So xH2 new software ?
In November, only AF fix for video at this point according to what they said
Many XT5 users say they do not have AF problems following the last fw update.
I think it’s more of the settings. Afs seems to work okay, so if you’re using that I think you’re gonna have better success than afc w face/eye detect
When I first got my xt5 it was very good in terms of solid af
People seem to have overlooked this information from Fuji's video.
"We've been working on X-T5, X-S20 and other models as well, to release the firmware within this year for improved user experience."
You dont need to hunt around in the video for it, they pinned it as a comment.
Or did this get added later?
I'm not sure if they added it later on, but it would have been much more effective to just say that in the video. Thanks for sharing!
Fuji autofocus will never be as good as Sony or canon and theses x series cameras are ok only for amateur hobbyists only
Right. I agree - there is constructive critic and then there are trolls just looking for views. I try my best to be the former not the latter. Lol
@@JakeChambersOy good point.
Cool you just repeated/confirmed what other people have been explaining for months.
Watch out for the Fuji Fiends... They talk trash about Fuji but secretly love the cameras & lenses
Not sure if you mean me but I openly love Fuji no secret there lol. But depending on who watches my vids I’m either a hater or a fanboy 🤷🏼♂️
I will remain loyal to fujufilm, but I'm not surprised at all ..for them it doesn't make them money to upgrade it
However this doesn't make any sense to me
My gut (blunt Australian guy) They don't care ....they have our and your money already and it's not going to expand their profit margins..
Even people leaving fuji they still make money from instamax ..
AFC - single eye works better
Use continuas low
Sensitivity to 4
It works OK 👍
But it needs fixing
The japanese will never admit there is a problem
They are conservative
The X00vi is still selling
So again it's down to money
To be completely ignored is baffling
There is no way I could confidently take an XT5 into a wedding right now. Thankfully my GFX 100s II works wonderfully
I hope you are wrong about them not caring... time will tell! I am going to be cautiously optimistic about it. But as I've been saying, they really need to do better.
@PeteCocoPhoto maybe they care ...let's hope so
But their actions need to afirm they care...a video they released doenst make me feel cared for.
I thought Fujifilm developed the xt -line with primarily still photographers in mind. 🫢
They did. I don’t use the xt5 for much video. 99% stills. I was referring to my experience shooting stills
