This project has been overwhelming at times, rewarding at others... either way I'm learning a ton doing this income property renovation. I've had quite a bit of unexpected detours along the way keeping me from making as many videos as I want, so I decided to make the most of it and make my first vlog!! this is something I've wanted to try for a long time, so hopefully it came out decent!!!

    MODERN BUILDS
Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

Personally, I would hire it out. On another note, I would make the path wider. It really makes a difference. If someone is carrying bags or walking with someone, you have to walk behind them or in the grass. I know it's not a big deal but normally sidewalks and paths are generally too narrow. To me there should be enough space for two people to walk comfortably side by side without stepping in the grass. Just my opinion. Love your work. Keep it up.

I like the large format paver idea or possible a cedar walkway that matches the porch beams.

Nice vlog. Really enjoyed hearing you just talk about stuff rather than the more scripted/condensed episodes you make. Ditto on the hair reveal! :) Hang in there on the ass kicking feel. Houses do that to you whether you are flipping them or just living in them long term. Projects always take longer or cost more than you estimated or want them to. I've really enjoyed seeing your house projects progress and eventually finish. Great job!

If you pour the sidewalk yourself you can make the normal 2x4 forms on the sides that you can. Against the wall you can use expansion board between the concrete and the wall. It's a foam like board to keep the concrete from cracking against the wall. You can use a chalk line to mark out where you want the concrete to be against the wall. Sometimes we'd even glue it against the wall so we wouldn't have to worry about it moving during the pour. Then you'd want to have expansion joints at least every 10ft but you can do smaller squares if you want. You can either cut them in with a saw after or use a hand tool called a jointer to cut them out while the concrete is still wet.
You could totally do it yourself. The job is so small that hiring it out would probably not meet the minimum that some contractors have. Especially since you already did the hard work of tearing it out yourself. I'd look into pricing on getting a truck to show up with 1 or 2 yards and just make it even easier on yourself not having to mix the bags. Might be a little more expensive but you'd be saving yourself a lot of effort and that cost can't be ignored.

yes that shower system of water in water out (Older system to current methods) Is definitely work haha next time try a sealed method! with a FloFX Bonding flange, the FloFX roll of waterproof membrane, or laticrete hydroban membrane (I personally used this one) for my shower pan and then just used cement board for the walls sealed with their cement board mesh tape and max-lite thin set with hydroban liquid applied membrane, can also use aqua defense or redgard(don't use redgard pls), you only have to slope once with the deck mud to the bonding flange.
about the walkway DIY! Pavers are cool but gotta make sure you have a weed barrier, if you want to just do full concrete with broom finish DIY! rent a mud mixer, or lmk I'll let you borrow my mud mixer it's a continuous mixer for cement its awesome just drop the bag ontop of a hopper that has some sharp spikes and it cuts the bag.
