I would like to help you as well - straight out of the Haynes repair manual for 07-12 Altima: Thermostat and and water control valve housing bolt torque specs are 16 ft-lbs for 4 cyl engines, and 87 in-lbs for 6 cyl engines. According to the manual, 87 in-lbs translates to approximately 15 ft lbs, but is expressed as inch pounds because torque wrenches can be less accurate at smaller values.
Clarification - 87in lbs is NOT equivalent to 15ft lbs, I read the manuals disclaimer wrong. It just states that torque values below 15ft lbs are expressed in inch pounds. Do NOT torque thermostat housing bolts down to 15ft lbs if you have a V6 lol
I have a 2008 Nissan Altima, 4cyl. My son & I just watch this vid. & we have NEVER done anything like this before. It looks like he covered everything in this video, "step by step". (which is helpful!) So we are off to be mechanic's for the first time.. I will come back in here & give an update when we are done. (May the Force be with us, lol)
Well, "about" 3hrs later we got it ALL done. there were a few more hoses in the way & kept dropping a few things. But we got it done... Only issue is after we burp it & let it run for a few mins. My car started to overheat Again. & i already changed out the Radiator. So the only thing i can think of is the "Water Pump". But i do want to say this IS the best step by step vid i Have ever seen. thx for the Help.

just a note for anyone replacing the thermostat and water valve on the Nissan Altima 2007, make sure you place the spring part INTO the engine, followed the service manual and this video and my P0128 has been fixed, thanks for upload!
Was just replacing it, and the stock water valve was reversed (the same as shown in this video) although the diagram shows the spring going into the engine. I replaced the same way as stock, the same way as shown in this video...will see how it goes tomorrow....very odd.

I mounted the fuse for the amplifiers in exactly the same spot and same hardware on my 09 altima. 😂 I bought the base 2.5 model that didn't even come with a radio because of the price and I wanted to do my own sound system and wheels. I bought this car new in December of 2008 for $17,500. Now I'm watching videos on how to fix it.
You did a great job with your video. The only thing I would have done was go ahead and remove the engine cover and heat shield for to get at the thermostat a little better. Great job.
This was great. Thanks. I bought my Nissan and the previous owner had an over heating problem and removed the water control valve and the thermostant. They also must have had a leak because the radiator was full of stop leak and newspaper fibers.

Good video but 2 things... 1. On the water control valve you have the thermostat in wrong. THE SPRING GOES INTO THE ENGINE. 2. The torque you said for the bolts was for the V-6. Torque for the 4 cyl. is 16 lbs.

So if you look at the autozone diagram the water control valve should have the spring part loaded into the engine, not the way you have it installed. Since the valve is made to open at lower temperatures it opens the valve sooner to allow the cabin to heat up faster.
Me too, this will probably take me 4-6 hrs to do it myself and just don’t have the confidence on the result. I will instead pay Nissan dealer $400 to do the repair. I know when it’s not worth doing it my self unlike the last successful DIY I did which was change the torque engine mount, that was supper easy.

Factory torque specs are 16 FOOT/POUNDS for every one of those fasteners you were working with (I don't know where you got 80 Foot/Pounds, maybe you meant Inch/Pounds).....
Thanks for the detailed video on this. I had a quick question and I realize there could be more than one answer, when my 2009 Nissan Altima is at idle, my engine starts to overheat, but only at idle, driving it's fine, but stopping for five minutes or more I began to overheat. Any insight on this? I'm definitely gonna try to change the thermostats out. Was wondering if you had any other insight to why this happens.
I’m not an expert , but if I had to guess it sounds like it make be your fan or radiator. When your driving the cool air entering through the grillis probably keeping the engine cool like it’s supposed too and then when you idle there isn’t a consent breeze of cold air entering the system via grill area so the engine is not able to be cooled down. Normally the fan would kick in and keep it cool buy creating cool winds.

Nawfal Yousuf you do not need to take the thermostat part for a flush. And you need to measure what comes out . I tagged a video in my description on how to do a proper flush. But make sure you saving what comes out to measure what you need to replace.
It was my pleasure bro, after needing to get this done for a while because my car was throwing a error code on my thermostat (saying it was stuck open). I couldn't find any video online on this model and the one I did find wasn't making me feel confident enough, because at one point that was my only car so I couldn't take a chance and mess it up. anyway when I figured out what the video I was watching was referring too and I did some research I felt I could do it, and I did! so I had to film it for anyone out there that was like me and needed to see the steps in detail before they took there hands too it. I was worried I installed mine backwards (mine is installed like he did it in the video because that is how the old one was installed). After looking in the FSM (CO-25 on the 2006 Sentra SE-R manual if you want to look it up yourself. I have a 2006 Spec V, but its the same engine and setup.) and doing research including watching youtube videos to see how most people's were originally installed from the factory.... this guy did it right and the FSM illustration is incorrect. If you look at the water control valve housing it has a port in the back. That is the hot water outlet from the cylinder head that is running though the heat core, and of course out to the upper radiator hose (but that only matters when the lower thermostat is open). When the lower temp 177 deg - lower located thermostat opens water obviously flows through the housing out to the upper radiator hose outlet... what this means and what I am getting to is that hot coolant that is freshly exiting the head is flowing through the housing and over the "back" of the water control valve. Once the water control valve opens the coolant from the block enters the water control valve housing and mixes with the coolant from the head and off to the radiator or heater core. This is why they located the temp sender in the water control valve housing right next to the 'back' of the water control valve itself. Hot coolant is always circulating in that location and over the 'back' of the water control valve...even if both thermostats are closed. Sorry this is so long, but there is a lot of confusion about this on the internet and I haven't seen a good explanation, so after figuring this out I figured I would offer one. At the time I didn't understand all this and I just installed mine the way the old one came out because I knew it was never removed before I replaced it, but I am glad that I don't have to go back in there to flip it over because I did it wrong.
I left nothing out as far as the after valve and thermostat replacement go. If I didn’t show it in the video then I didn’t do it. I just couldn’t show the coolant rush and all that. If you are being told to use some kinda sealant just check and make sure it’s a reliable source. I’m not a professional so I won’t say you can’t use it. But I my self did not do so.
Great Video I am doing right now the work following your video and I love it, but I can get the heater pipe out, been trying for 3 hours and the thing is stuck, any tips in how to get it out? my hands hurts, I've been using even a flat screw driver and the washer looks like is only bending,but not moving . Helpppppp Please LOL
The heater-pipe feels like your going to break it pulling out but if you have a good grip and your pulling hard enough it will come out. Just make sure your wiggling and pulling too so that you are breaking it loose . The only reason you see me take it apart so easy is because I took them off prerecord . But y’all the holes need some elbow grease.

So my car has a check engine light, 2009 altima, the code that comes up is the thermostat, would I just change the both of these things you did? Or just the thermostat that is only held up by two bolts? The one that was easier to change, because the other video of the guy who doesnt explain much referred to the car has having two thermostats? So for my check engine light do I change both of these parts? Or just the one in the front?
Rotceh Ollitsac I would change both yes, but if for some reason you feel you can’t change the other on the manifold then change the front one and see what happens with your code. But just remember you would be doing a lot of work if it turns out it was the other one all along. That’s why say you do both !

I have an 07 Altima and I don't feel the bolts for getting the heater pipe out. It is so odd. I thought 07-12 models are all pretty much the same, right?
They are there on one top and one on bottom 2 total . Not saying your wrong . Maybe give it a second look and take your time make sure you have located the correct pipe .
When. your have 6 or 8 mm bolts I would think torque specs would be in inch lbs, definitely not more than 15 to 20 ft lbs, lucky you didn't break them off, great video
Yea I couldn’t find any information on them. I just cross my finger in this part but lucky I didn’t and I also didn’t have to retighten from leaks or anything either. If you know the specs please feel free to post them for future purposes. Thank you for the feedback ✌🏼✌🏼
Def do both. They are both thermostats basically. One is just called the water control valve, if you are have over heating problems it would be just to change both anyway. Let me know how it goes bro.
Hello. I have a 2010 Altima 2.5L. My check engine light is on due to a thermostat warning. My engine heats up a little late but not too late. When I took out the thermostat, the top part was completely close and the bottom completely open. What can be the problem? TY
I just did a 2008 nissan altima thermostacts My adviseb to is leave the metal gasket on as itis just puthe new one if is soft gasket on top of the metal one. If not is gonna leak. And u gonna have to work more

Hey just a quick question I changed the front thermostat which seemed busted when I took it off yet the other thermostat wasn't there when I took it off so I just replaced the front one. Did I do wrong? Also when I installed the front one I dont know if I placed the thermostat in with the arrow or the word "Top" pointing up like you stated. The car runs but the fans seems to come on and stay on when driving far distance and after a long ride the temperature goes up and comes back down after about 3 or 4 days of driving..... help!!!!
Ok so first off you need to redo the front thermostat and do it correctly like I have shown in the video. You could be doing some serious damage to your engine. Especially if the fan is running like you say and the temp is going up. That means your engine isn’t being cooled properly and over time this will result in a blown head gasket or cracked engine block. You need to redo the installation correctly and also you said the other one was missing? As in the water control valve on the side of the engine ? Well that doesn’t sound good or right at all. Someone somewhere along the line of your cars life took out the old one for whatever reason and didn’t replace it wit a working one or one at all it seems. So you need to buy a new one and install it . This should fix your problem. Let me know!
I put the thermostat in how you did in the video, but in the instructions it said to put in the opposite way. I tested drove the car and it heated up almost instantly. I’m going to try and put it in the way the instructions say but I just wanted to know your input. I got my thermostat from auto zone. Good video btw.
I’m not sure why you got over heating problem from that. I’ve driven over 10k with mine changed since this video with no problems. Maybe you installed it upside down? Or maybe there could be another problem.

One a side note.... in my experience you should really be using Nissan OE thermostats because they can be finicky about them. You'd be surprised what the dealer charges for parts like this, its not bad at all. I picked up both thermostats, the steel gasket for the housing, replacement o-ring for the steel coolant return line, temp sensor, and a radiator cap and I paid less than $75 for everything. The lower thermostat for example is actually a dual action thermostat and the reduces the flow to the heater core when it opens. I have a KA24DE that a stant thermostat caused a check engine light because the engine didn't warm up as quickly as the computer expected. Also, these cars should warm up very quickly. With their dual thermostat and dual action thermostat configuration thats the point. When both thermostats are closed water mostly only flows from the water pump to the head, to the heater core, then back to the water pump.
no they are not! and not a dumb question at all. all though they are both 'thermostats" one is call a water control valve and is different then the other one!
I bought a mishimotto thermostat it doesn't fit the bottom thermostat housing is it designed for the top thermostat housing is that why it won't fit are both thermostats the same size?
What was your reason for changing the Water Valve & Thermostat? i have the same car and my problem is the radiator fan is turning on when its cold outside (-10C) and stays on and doesn't turn off until i shut off the car. trying to research for similar issues to find a solution. the temperature gauge needle on the dash is slightly below half as usual.
Not 100 percent sure why you getting that problem unless you got no coolant in your system or something. I changed mine because I was getting a code sent. I forgot the code but I think it was PD101 or something like that. It was saying that one of my thereomstats was “stuck open” I changed them and the code stop showing up. I would say if your trouble shooting and you want/can change these parts you should as a good preventive maintenance move. Who knows it may solve your problem aswell.
My fans won't shut off when I trun the car off. Both fans are running and they will run the battery all the way down. They are always running no matter what. Any one have any ideas? Don't have any performance issues that's I have noticed.
Zach Nelson unfortunately I wouldn’t know the exact problem but it sound electrical, like a sensor or something is messed up and causing the fans to stay on. I’m not 100 % sure what your problem is , I’m sorry. Take to mechanic if anything and at least find out why it’s happening then change yourself or get the mechanic too.
They look similar and they are both refereed too as thermostats but do not confuse them they are two different parts. One is technically the water control valve which is the one located on the side of the engine inside of the manifold
So which is the actual thermostat? Because I saw another video and supposedly the thermostat was on the opposite side of the engine. On the part that you said was the water valve looks like it has a thermostat as well the band the last one you took off it was a thermostat so I'm a little confused. My car started getting hot today which never happened until today it cooled off then shot back up. Please help.
These "thermostats" do not send temperature information, they only react to coolant temperature by opening or closing. There is a different sensor for temperature detection. I also own a Jeep Grand Cherokee and when I replaced the thermostat it also tried to overheat at first but when I slammed on the brakes, my temp gauge dropped to normal. New thermostats act wonky at first I think.

I followed your video and fixed my car. Thank you. I tried replacing my second car’s thermostat and once I put everything back together and turned on my car, it started shaking a few times and turns off. Do you know why this is happening? I tried redoing everything and it still does this.
Maurice is this Nissan 4 or 6 liter? I have a 6 and things are a little different. Three screws to take off that front piece and I don't see the thermostat.
This is base model 4 banger a 2.4liter not the V6 3.6liter your referring too correct? (Not 100% on the liters). It I think your says you have a v6. Mine in video is 4cylinder

I'm half way in changing the hard thermostat the one that's in the back but my heater pipe will not come out. It is really stuck in there. Any advice on how to get it out besides wiggling and pulling?
Yea, the heater pipe feels like its like welded in there but its just really stuck from being driven over time. In the video I put it back together already so it looks easy when I take it out, But when I originally did it I felt just like you did, that I was going to break it and I was doing something wrong, but trust me, if you have the two bots out and make sure the radiator clamp isn't in the way just pull and wiggle and repeat don't be scared to break it you WONT, you just need to break that rubber seal free that is keeping it so tightly in place. so just pull towards yourself and wiggle. use your body weight if you can when your pulling for extra leverage. let me know how it goes bro!
@@MauriceD101 I finally got it out today. I used a tap down tool in conjunction with a hammer to take it out. I personally want to thank you for your video. Not only did it save me money but most importantly time. Funny the front thermostat took me literally 3 minutes to change but the side thermostat 🤦🏽♂️. Thank you again for everything 🙏🏾

This is typical, the heater core pipe is a battle to wriggle out but be patient and it will move. If you need to take a break, take a break, but don't stop - finish the job the same day.

Hey! I love the video and how you explain how to take everything apart. I have a 2007 Altima and as of now it is overheating without driving for very long. The radiator is in good shape, but the fan doesn't turn on when the coolant temp goes above 87 degrees celsius. Are either the thermostat/watervalve linked to the fan in some way? and if so which one would I have to troubleshoot/replace? Thanks :)
Thank you for your compliment, I worked hard to make it as informational as possible. If you having a over heating problem and the the radiator is fine and your not sure what it may be, then I would trouble shoot and change the parts. Someone else wrote on the comments and said they were having a overheating problem too and when they changed the two thermostats the problems went away. Maybe that will be the same for you. Either way it’s a good trouble shoot and good preventive maintance if worst comes to worse .
These cars only have one temp sensor, so if you gauge isn't working then change your sensor because the ECU doesn't know to turn on the fans. Also, I'd just change both thermostats as they are not that expensive and either one can cause overheating. The upper thermostat can cause an overheat condition and it won't even register on the gauge if it fails in the right way. You can also have a electrical issue. These are not single speed fans the high speed circuit may not be be working causing the fans to actually turn off when they should be ramping up.
I just the job wish I saw this video first lol I didn’t see the other screw so I just bent the pipe as much as I could to get some working room and carefully bent it back when I finished.

Good video but 2 things... 1. On the water control valve you have the thermostat in wrong. THE SPRING GOES INTO THE ENGINE. 2. The torque you said for the bolts was for the V-6. Torque for the 4 cyl. is 16 lbs.

So if you look at the autozone diagram the water control valve should have the spring part loaded into the engine, not the way you have it installed. Since the valve is made to open at lower temperatures it opens the valve sooner to allow the cabin to heat up faster.

Me too, this will probably take me 4-6 hrs to do it myself and just don’t have the confidence on the result. I will instead pay Nissan dealer $400 to do the repair.
I know when it’s not worth doing it my self unlike the last successful DIY I did which was change the torque engine mount, that was supper easy.

Factory torque specs are 16 FOOT/POUNDS for every one of those fasteners you were working with (I don't know where you got 80 Foot/Pounds, maybe you meant Inch/Pounds).....

Thanks for the detailed video on this. I had a quick question and I realize there could be more than one answer, when my 2009 Nissan Altima is at idle, my engine starts to overheat, but only at idle, driving it's fine, but stopping for five minutes or more I began to overheat. Any insight on this? I'm definitely gonna try to change the thermostats out. Was wondering if you had any other insight to why this happens.
I’m not an expert , but if I had to guess it sounds like it make be your fan or radiator. When your driving the cool air entering through the grillis probably keeping the engine cool like it’s supposed too and then when you idle there isn’t a consent breeze of cold air entering the system via grill area so the engine is not able to be cooled down. Normally the fan would kick in and keep it cool buy creating cool winds.
Same problem w/ 2013 maxima did you have any luck with this problem??

Nawfal Yousuf you do not need to take the thermostat part for a flush. And you need to measure what comes out . I tagged a video in my description on how to do a proper flush. But make sure you saving what comes out to measure what you need to replace.

I was worried I installed mine backwards (mine is installed like he did it in the video because that is how the old one was installed). After looking in the FSM (CO-25 on the 2006 Sentra SE-R manual if you want to look it up yourself. I have a 2006 Spec V, but its the same engine and setup.) and doing research including watching youtube videos to see how most people's were originally installed from the factory.... this guy did it right and the FSM illustration is incorrect. If you look at the water control valve housing it has a port in the back. That is the hot water outlet from the cylinder head that is running though the heat core, and of course out to the upper radiator hose (but that only matters when the lower thermostat is open). When the lower temp 177 deg - lower located thermostat opens water obviously flows through the housing out to the upper radiator hose outlet... what this means and what I am getting to is that hot coolant that is freshly exiting the head is flowing through the housing and over the "back" of the water control valve. Once the water control valve opens the coolant from the block enters the water control valve housing and mixes with the coolant from the head and off to the radiator or heater core. This is why they located the temp sender in the water control valve housing right next to the 'back' of the water control valve itself. Hot coolant is always circulating in that location and over the 'back' of the water control valve...even if both thermostats are closed. Sorry this is so long, but there is a lot of confusion about this on the internet and I haven't seen a good explanation, so after figuring this out I figured I would offer one. At the time I didn't understand all this and I just installed mine the way the old one came out because I knew it was never removed before I replaced it, but I am glad that I don't have to go back in there to flip it over because I did it wrong.

I left nothing out as far as the after valve and thermostat replacement go. If I didn’t show it in the video then I didn’t do it. I just couldn’t show the coolant rush and all that. If you are being told to use some kinda sealant just check and make sure it’s a reliable source. I’m not a professional so I won’t say you can’t use it. But I my self did not do so.

The heater-pipe feels like your going to break it pulling out but if you have a good grip and your pulling hard enough it will come out. Just make sure your wiggling and pulling too so that you are breaking it loose . The only reason you see me take it apart so easy is because I took them off prerecord . But y’all the holes need some elbow grease.

So my car has a check engine light, 2009 altima, the code that comes up is the thermostat, would I just change the both of these things you did? Or just the thermostat that is only held up by two bolts? The one that was easier to change, because the other video of the guy who doesnt explain much referred to the car has having two thermostats? So for my check engine light do I change both of these parts? Or just the one in the front?
Rotceh Ollitsac I would change both yes, but if for some reason you feel you can’t change the other on the manifold then change the front one and see what happens with your code. But just remember you would be doing a lot of work if it turns out it was the other one all along. That’s why say you do both !

I have an 07 Altima and I don't feel the bolts for getting the heater pipe out. It is so odd. I thought 07-12 models are all pretty much the same, right?
They are there on one top and one on bottom 2 total . Not saying your wrong . Maybe give it a second look and take your time make sure you have located the correct pipe .
When. your have 6 or 8 mm bolts I would think torque specs would be in inch lbs, definitely not more than 15 to 20 ft lbs, lucky you didn't break them off, great video

Hello. I have a 2010 Altima 2.5L. My check engine light is on due to a thermostat warning. My engine heats up a little late but not too late. When I took out the thermostat, the top part was completely close and the bottom completely open. What can be the problem? TY

Hey just a quick question I changed the front thermostat which seemed busted when I took it off yet the other thermostat wasn't there when I took it off so I just replaced the front one. Did I do wrong? Also when I installed the front one I dont know if I placed the thermostat in with the arrow or the word "Top" pointing up like you stated. The car runs but the fans seems to come on and stay on when driving far distance and after a long ride the temperature goes up and comes back down after about 3 or 4 days of driving..... help!!!!
Ok so first off you need to redo the front thermostat and do it correctly like I have shown in the video. You could be doing some serious damage to your engine. Especially if the fan is running like you say and the temp is going up. That means your engine isn’t being cooled properly and over time this will result in a blown head gasket or cracked engine block. You need to redo the installation correctly and also you said the other one was missing? As in the water control valve on the side of the engine ? Well that doesn’t sound good or right at all. Someone somewhere along the line of your cars life took out the old one for whatever reason and didn’t replace it wit a working one or one at all it seems. So you need to buy a new one and install it . This should fix your problem. Let me know!

I put the thermostat in how you did in the video, but in the instructions it said to put in the opposite way. I tested drove the car and it heated up almost instantly. I’m going to try and put it in the way the instructions say but I just wanted to know your input. I got my thermostat from auto zone. Good video btw.

One a side note.... in my experience you should really be using Nissan OE thermostats because they can be finicky about them. You'd be surprised what the dealer charges for parts like this, its not bad at all. I picked up both thermostats, the steel gasket for the housing, replacement o-ring for the steel coolant return line, temp sensor, and a radiator cap and I paid less than $75 for everything. The lower thermostat for example is actually a dual action thermostat and the reduces the flow to the heater core when it opens. I have a KA24DE that a stant thermostat caused a check engine light because the engine didn't warm up as quickly as the computer expected. Also, these cars should warm up very quickly. With their dual thermostat and dual action thermostat configuration thats the point. When both thermostats are closed water mostly only flows from the water pump to the head, to the heater core, then back to the water pump.

I’m a little confused on what it is your asking, but I will say that you should change both and it would be good preventive maintenance to do so
What was your reason for changing the Water Valve & Thermostat? i have the same car and my problem is the radiator fan is turning on when its cold outside (-10C) and stays on and doesn't turn off until i shut off the car. trying to research for similar issues to find a solution. the temperature gauge needle on the dash is slightly below half as usual.
Not 100 percent sure why you getting that problem unless you got no coolant in your system or something. I changed mine because I was getting a code sent. I forgot the code but I think it was PD101 or something like that. It was saying that one of my thereomstats was “stuck open” I changed them and the code stop showing up. I would say if your trouble shooting and you want/can change these parts you should as a good preventive maintenance move. Who knows it may solve your problem aswell.
Replace the ECT sensor
My fans won't shut off when I trun the car off. Both fans are running and they will run the battery all the way down. They are always running no matter what. Any one have any ideas? Don't have any performance issues that's I have noticed.
Zach Nelson unfortunately I wouldn’t know the exact problem but it sound electrical, like a sensor or something is messed up and causing the fans to stay on. I’m not 100 % sure what your problem is , I’m sorry. Take to mechanic if anything and at least find out why it’s happening then change yourself or get the mechanic too.

They look similar and they are both refereed too as thermostats but do not confuse them they are two different parts. One is technically the water control valve which is the one located on the side of the engine inside of the manifold

So which is the actual thermostat? Because I saw another video and supposedly the thermostat was on the opposite side of the engine. On the part that you said was the water valve looks like it has a thermostat as well the band the last one you took off it was a thermostat so I'm a little confused. My car started getting hot today which never happened until today it cooled off then shot back up. Please help.
These "thermostats" do not send temperature information, they only react to coolant temperature by opening or closing. There is a different sensor for temperature detection. I also own a Jeep Grand Cherokee and when I replaced the thermostat it also tried to overheat at first but when I slammed on the brakes, my temp gauge dropped to normal. New thermostats act wonky at first I think.

Maurice is this Nissan 4 or 6 liter? I have a 6 and things are a little different. Three screws to take off that front piece and I don't see the thermostat.
This is base model 4 banger a 2.4liter not the V6 3.6liter your referring too correct? (Not 100% on the liters). It I think your says you have a v6. Mine in video is 4cylinder

Yea, the heater pipe feels like its like welded in there but its just really stuck from being driven over time. In the video I put it back together already so it looks easy when I take it out, But when I originally did it I felt just like you did, that I was going to break it and I was doing something wrong, but trust me, if you have the two bots out and make sure the radiator clamp isn't in the way just pull and wiggle and repeat don't be scared to break it you WONT, you just need to break that rubber seal free that is keeping it so tightly in place. so just pull towards yourself and wiggle. use your body weight if you can when your pulling for extra leverage. let me know how it goes bro!
@@MauriceD101 I finally got it out today. I used a tap down tool in conjunction with a hammer to take it out. I personally want to thank you for your video. Not only did it save me money but most importantly time. Funny the front thermostat took me literally 3 minutes to change but the side thermostat 🤦🏽♂️. Thank you again for everything 🙏🏾

This is typical, the heater core pipe is a battle to wriggle out but be patient and it will move. If you need to take a break, take a break, but don't stop - finish the job the same day.

Hey! I love the video and how you explain how to take everything apart. I have a 2007 Altima and as of now it is overheating without driving for very long. The radiator is in good shape, but the fan doesn't turn on when the coolant temp goes above 87 degrees celsius. Are either the thermostat/watervalve linked to the fan in some way? and if so which one would I have to troubleshoot/replace? Thanks :)
Thank you for your compliment, I worked hard to make it as informational as possible. If you having a over heating problem and the the radiator is fine and your not sure what it may be, then I would trouble shoot and change the parts. Someone else wrote on the comments and said they were having a overheating problem too and when they changed the two thermostats the problems went away. Maybe that will be the same for you. Either way it’s a good trouble shoot and good preventive maintance if worst comes to worse .
These cars only have one temp sensor, so if you gauge isn't working then change your sensor because the ECU doesn't know to turn on the fans. Also, I'd just change both thermostats as they are not that expensive and either one can cause overheating. The upper thermostat can cause an overheat condition and it won't even register on the gauge if it fails in the right way. You can also have a electrical issue. These are not single speed fans the high speed circuit may not be be working causing the fans to actually turn off when they should be ramping up.
