I just got one yesterday. The flash bulb blew on my old Canon G7X and I sent it in to Canon and they just replaced it with one of these. Such an unexpected blessing.
Very nice review. I just got this used last week and love it. Got it for great price, for street and any time I don't want to lug around a bigger camera. Only drawback is no EVF.
Thanks Justin! This is still really helpful 3 years on from your one year on! I have a Sony ZV-1 and I love it but tried vlogging and run and gunning on the street yesterday and its terrible! It barely got my head in, let alone my guest or anything else in the background. This is way too late considering how old this camera is now but I do wonder how holding it at arms length compares... Anyway thanks again from the UK and... subscribed!
I just bought this camera and was looking for tutorials on how to get the best out of it. I find your videos so helpful and to the point, no long-winded explanations and fancy tech talk. Thanks for the tips!
Justin, can I interest you in doing a video discussing the features and *_benefits_* you get as you incrementally go up in price for cameras and for lenses? What do you lose as you go down in price? Start with something priced around the Canon ELPH type cameras, and go up until you get to prosumer grade cameras. This will benefit those of us who are trying to figure out what camera and lens will best suit our needs. Thanks.
im saving up for this camera for my photography course in hs (you get a better grade if you have your own camera) and i want to make videos for fun. this video was super helpful seeing as i was going to get my own mic but the built in mic is amazing.
Yo Justin! Man I just ran into your channel and dude, I love it. Since you and I both have a Canon G7X Mark II, can you please do a tutorial on the settings you use for vlogging for that camera?? And explain shutter speed, ISO, and all that manual adjusting when shooting video. And also how to get the best quality video. That would be awesome!
I bought this camera about 2 months ago and I love it! I use it for all my videos since I am just starting out and it works perfectly for my needs. I love the built in WIFI and flip up screen. I don't have any issues with the audio. The battery life could definitely be better though, I already bought a second battery for back up on long days of shooting.
Which would be better, a DSLR or a compact camera for buying your first camera... I'm planning on going on holiday and want to choose a camera that takes great shots and retains the quality when zoomed in to the max. I'm not fussy about size, so I don't mind as I will put in my bag anyways.
I've been using this camera for 6 years for indoor traveling, the quality is still stable... this camera is really stubborn as long as routine maintenance is done after
One tip you didn't mention and didn't do in this video which is a HUGE help is when you're in a studio setting or the camera is going to stay steady and you're not moving a lot is to lock in auto focus cause this whole video the camera was subtlety changing focus and that is the sound you're hearing. Its the asterisk on the touch screen. If you touch that it wont make that tiny winding noise you were talking about at 6:00.
I love this camera, its honestly fantastic. The only letdowns are the not-so-good microphone and that there is no mic input OR hotshoe. Great for vlogging, I use it for short films as well, and I think its good. After editing the footage, it can seem very cinematic.
Thanks so much! Just bought this on Walmart’s website. It’s was less than $600 for the camera, two tripods, a bag, an extra battery and some other accessories.
It doesn't have an external mic port which was disappointing but it is overall a great camera. Just don't drop it in the sand like I did, it jammed up the auto shutter. I also filmed the Macy's 4th of July fireworks with it and it's awesome in low light. I have a whole vlog about that night. Thanks for the good video content Justin :)
Thanks for this review. Very close to buying this camera. Am not a pro and recognize there will be a learning curve. It took me a while to figure out how to stop my current Powershot from "adjusting" my night shots. I want dark nights, not constant twilight. Will I be able to adjust this camera to give me night-dark night shots?
Nice review , i want a point n shoot camera that can match my dslr when we go on holiday to America. Can always see the difference when i get home .but its hard work carring a dslr and lens around all day .
What I found on a Fuji pocket camera that was about 6 years old was that you could override the video exposure auto by two stops in either direction. My Canon 310 HS Elph certainly didn't allow that. It can be extremely handy to have that option with video. I'd like to project my family 16mm films and my super 8 films on a screen and simply take movies of them to convert the files to digital. Having this kind of control without having to buy a 5D Mark II is a great option. Does the G7X have any override on video?
I just randomly came across this while looking for a review and was shook to see that you filmed part of this at my college. Anyways great review thank you!
+tallbozo at the time I tried the older and cheaper s120 which was really good actually but didn't have a flipout screen which was the dealbreaker for me. If I was looking now I might also research the Sony rx 100 5
this video officaly made me want to get one for Xmas :d been looking in depet for videos like these and i have came acorss so many reviews that didnt really catch my attention since they werent specific but since you had it for over a year you knew all about it and you knew what you were talking about, thanks dude!
Are you using any ring lights in this video? Im curious what the quality is without them. I would love to shoot some beauty vlogs with this camera.. Would that work? Without any extra lightning?
aaah thank you! That's very helpful. If you should choose between the Canon M50 or the G7X, what would you do? Will be used for vlogging and indoor beauty videos. @@JustinOdisho
Hello Justin Nice video Could you please tell me after a year of using is the auto focus still working like charm or did you have any issues with the cam Thanks
yo, i think he re-uped that project because now you can see that light switch for the whole video. I wouldn't mind if he told us that he didn't like that light switch and removed it but accidentaly forgot to take out that small part. I guess perfectionism is strong side of his life.
Great review....I think I am going to buy this camera for vlogging....you have yourself in some scary lighting shotting from below you...you would only do that if you truly wanted to make your handsome face scary! Thank you...lol..:)
I have this camera from april this year and it's great! It makes crisp stills but also some nice video. Stabilization is great and dynamic range in stills is on pair with some DSLR's.
I’ve been wanting to buy a camera for vlogging and I’m stuck between the G7x Mark ii and the Mark iii. I’ve been seeing that the mark iii has terrible auto focus , so should I get the mark ii ?
I was considering purchasing this camera but now that it's several years old or at least a couple years old I'm feeling like I can get something better for around the same price range? if you guys know of any cameras that are newer than this one that might be a little bit better but still within the same price range please let me know.
Hi there ! I just bought this camera and started playing with the settings before taking it on vacation and i didn’t like how my pictures came out. I loved the test pictures your showed in this video! What settings did you use to take those ?
Great review!! This camera has great image stabilisation. I have watched many reviews, side by side comparisons etc and the g7x m2 has the best image stabilisation period. Yet the only thing that bothers me is the auto focus. It is sooooooooooo slow. Is there a camera similar to the g7x m2 yet with better auto focus? That would be just amazing!
Really, I see from a comment below that there may not be an input on this camera for an external/lavaliere mic. Is this true, because it could be a deal breaker for me. I often have to shoot in noisy or very windy environments where a mic is a must have.
Thanks for the review. We purchased the Canon G7 X Mark II this week to film video. Just did some test video. Whenever the camera focuses it records a clicking noise - not indifferent to a spinning hard drive. It’s incredibly noticeable. Is there a fix for this?
As much as I loved the G7x Mark II, I exchanged it for an RX100 V. I found an open box one in excellent condition for $799 and it came with a $50 gift card so it was in the same price range as the Canon. The deal breakers with the Canon for me are the wonky/unreliable autofocus and lack of 4K.

back again deciding to buy one.
Image stabilization?
I really appreciate the fact that you filmed this video with the actual camera! Great idea and very helpful to show its true audio and video quality!

99% = talking about teeth
1% = talking about the camera
Best honest review I've seen on the g7x and trust me I've watched so many of them
Would you say: yes, buy it!?
not to sound like a serial killer, but you have really nice white teeth.
Dan Deleon their fake
They are truly gorgeous. I was thinking the same thing.
Thank you and they are my real teeth I had braces
That's something a tame granny says, not a serial killer.
Right!
I would have never thought about his teeth if I didn’t look at the comments 😂
Dude you're so positive about the feedback. So far, as I watched a lot about g7x review, you're the best! And nice white teeth :)
Nice review, thanks. The lack of external mic port is a dealbreaker for me. It was looking good until then.

Yest it is.😁🤣
Props to you for not disabling comments after all of the “Teeth” comments. 🦷
Very nice review. I just got this used last week and love it. Got it for great price, for street and any time I don't want to lug around a bigger camera. Only drawback is no EVF.
I knew people gona talk about his teeth lol 😂
It's not just your camera that does this noise, it's all the G7X II. I have one too and it have the same problem. Thanks for the video!
Luiz Scur its the auto focus right? it like grinding something when searching something on focus
Hi can this G7x ii attached to an external mic?
Good honest review. I think it's the lens motors making noise while recording.
Thanks Justin!

I want to buy the G7x Mark II does it work fine for recording video and how long does the registration last?
Yes, and im not sure about registration
I think he meant how much time can you spend recording? Great review btw :D@@JustinOdisho
I've had one for a few years been my favorite camera for vlogging

thank you!!! I never really trust reviews but this one was awesome and I really got a good idea of the cameras capabilities now!
Thanks for the review! I've recently been trying to decide whether or not to buy one myself and this was very helpful.
I've used this camera for 7 months.love it and yes,u need extra battery
I've been using mine for about 3 weeks and holy crap it is amazing

+TheChowDown awesome, I never personally use the wifi or the popout flash much but I do use the wifi on my 70d sometimes
A very good review. Have been considering another camera other than my Hero 5 for my channel. This has all that I need and very compact. Thanks
I have it to! only dont like the lens noise when its focus
Hello...Can you tell me how to blur out mosaic moving objects in video like person's face etc? Thank You!👍

I've been using mine for over a year too, and I love it! The only thing I don't like so much is the audio and the fact that you can't add a mic 😩

Awe thats a bummer
I have to look at mine - but there is a way to set up without that clicking noise while filming.
Totally buying this for streaming. Thank you!
I can hear that clicky noise now you pointed it out. That's a pain! Thanks for all this info.
Hi Justin - hope you can do more videos reviewing and tutorials for g7x mark 2. great videos.
Nice concise honest review. I am trying to decide on a vlog camera, this video helps. Thanks.
+r g thanks, glad it helps!
Does it have a similar feature like sony's zebra pattern for checking exposure?

You can use a wind muffler fore better audio on this camera

No, you can’t re upload something or replace a video. So you’re seeing things
i guess so
No he changed the video angle
Just bought a G7x ii as opposed to a DSLR, i hope the choice is worth it for a more portable camera! shame about the mic import.

We purchased the Canon G7 X Mark II this week to film video.
Just did some test video. Whenever the camera focuses it records a clicking noise - not indifferent to a spinning hard drive. It’s incredibly noticeable.
Is there a fix for this?
Try setting it to manual focus
Thanks Justin that was good info. you have nice teeth the camera showed then is good detail.
Video quality only great when you stay still but for vlogging image are not shard enough... I am confused which one to buy for my video :(
As much as I loved the G7x Mark II, I exchanged it for an RX100 V. I found an open box one in excellent condition for $799 and it came with a $50 gift card so it was in the same price range as the Canon. The deal breakers with the Canon for me are the wonky/unreliable autofocus and lack of 4K.
