    Great review!
    I am considering purchasing the G7 X Mark III, the update to the Mark II for my everyday camera. Canon sure nails the color science with their cameras.
    Based on what I see online, the G7 X Mark II is selling like hotcakes. In fact, it was on backorder about a week ago on B&H Photo and on other camera retailers.
    I do hope Canon releases the Mark IV soon due to the fact that many people are still buying their compact cameras.

      Canon has not released a new compact camera since 2019. Their focus now is entirely on EOS R. Compact camera sales are down. In the peak year of 2008 CIPA members shipped 110 million. If it not APS-C, it is one inch or 1.0-type as it not said. The sensor is about 16 mm when APS-C is about 27 mm, The Sony sensor is good and the fast lens means it about matches normal DSLR-kits. Phones and compact cameras have about 8 mm sensors.

    I have been on the look out for great point and shoot cameras because I know whenever I get my DSLR I always have to edit the photos and it's troublesome to be carrying arround the massive bulk of my camera and lens everywhere so I tend to just not do it unless I have a photoshot or something and my phone just doesn't make the cut for me (Decent photos for sure! But it's all about that big sensor look)
    And I think having a Point and Shoot camera with me at all times is just going to give me better results, and make me take a whole lot more photos! Thanks, this G7 X II (or the new III) seem to be the best option for me!

    I did many videos on this camera back in the day (like the entire Getting Better Day By Day series on my RUclips channel). The autofocus is really bad, and I too used manual focus. HOWEVER it‘s a bit tricky to set up if you‘re more than an arm‘s length away from the camera. The app Canon Camera Connect also doesn‘t work so great. What I ended up doing was putting a long, upright foam roller on a chair where I would be standing, manual focus on that 😂 did that for a couple of years twice a week until my RUclips was big enough to buy a better camera. 😅 Still own the GX7 though, makes lovely fotos, great picture profile

    If you have the Mark II and it works, keep it. If you don't own one, don't bother with the Mark II. Canon no longer supports the Mark II and no longer makes parts for it. This also means that most pro shops don't support repairs because many of the parts have dried up, outside of Chinese knock-offs. The Mark III is still supported, and you should consider other brands when you do your research. There are other less expensive cameras with similar features. Bottom line- do your homework. Cheers

We live on the east coast and the closest place that is willing to repair it is in Illinois. The Mark III has been out for a few years, and has supposedly corrected some of the complaints of the Mk II. And being newer, the Mk III is still repaired by Canon and pro shops. Enjoy.

It must have a good reason for this long sell life. However I found a half year old very good used one so I bouht that. Luckily I had possibility of tryout at one of our familimate, So I was double-sured to buy it. I didnt regret it. Love it! I thinkit was a very successful development. The Canon g7x Mark 2 is a beautiful and terrific camera for beginners but unfortunately there's a huge design fault with the inbuilt sensor.
    Overtime pushing the camera through it's paces it developed hot pixels which is a permanent problem

    I am really stuck deciding between this camera and a basic canon elph . I’m planning on using it to take pictures of my clients nails (I’m a nail tech), Film content doing nails, and then got just personal use to capture some special moments. There’s a huge price difference between both cameras. I did have a Panasonic LUMIX G7, I LOVED it, however haven’t picked it up in a while because it’s just so bulky and big.

      Hey, Kells! If you're taking pictures for your clients then the G7X II is the cam for you! The photo autofocus on it is much much more reliable than others and won't miss focus as much!

      It is good to have some protective case. The lens cover is weird as if it breaks they will change the whole lens and that costs. That happened to my G9 X Mark II.

    Has optical stabilization through the lens, not IBIS which is usually found on interchangeable lens cameras

    • @markfriday
      @markfriday  8 месяцев назад

      Hey there thank you so much for dropping a comment! The G7X Mark 2 and 3 have digital stabilization which is within the software of the camera body. I think it's safe to say to also call it IBIS. Lens-based stabilization is generally just for micro jitters and isn't as strong as this.

    • @trektn
      @trektn 8 месяцев назад

      @@markfriday Thanks but that's a little bit of a stretch, I think it's more of an EIS system based on how it manipulates the video with a crop. Compared to IBIS which can be "independent" of software, obviously software is written for it but it's for reading sensors and using the actuators that move and orient the sensor, no crop or warping required although it does help

    I'm considering buying this camera because I have seen many great pictures captured with this camera. My question is, am I being duped? Are the photographers spending hours editing or is this genuinely a great camera compared to a new iPhone?

    • @markfriday
      @markfriday  Год назад +6

      Hey, Ally! No, you're not being duped, shooting with an actual camera like a point and shoot camera like the G7XII trumps photos taken by mobile phones any day, of course it still depends on the photographer, he/she, with the right skill, can pull off anything with the right gear. But going back to your question, don't think, just get one, you're not going to regret it. I have owned multiple G7X's and never have I regretted my purchases. Sure, there are some knickknacks here and there but it's worth every dollar spent.

      Hey, Saqib! This deal really can't be beat, the other camera that comes into my mind in this price point would be the eos-m, Canon M50 or Canon 200D, the only problem is that you'd have to spend extra to buy lenses to use with those cameras before you can even bring them close to what the G7X II is capable of. My suggestions, just go for the G7X II and learn your craft from there.

      Hi, Danny! Sadly, there's no workaround that involves plugging in a mic. What I normally did with it is I would sync audio in post. I used to have a Zoom-H1N with a lav mic that I would put in my pocket. Sync clap after I hit record and sync it in post. You get professional level audio this way but there's just an added step to workflow and required gear to pull it off!

      G7 X Mark III has at least 4K, USB-C port that can be used also to power it (MII can be charged from the Micro-USB but to power you'll need a separate adapter that replaces the battery), mic input, newer stacked sensor (the one from Sony RX100 Mark IV), 30 vs 8 fps shooting, mood based AWB setting (in addition to the neutral. Traditionally DSRLs had mood based and compacts neutral. Now they both offer an option). Mark III is also 15 g (half an ounce) lighter.
      I say the Mic input and 4K are important features - if you need them.
