Unfortunately it appears he passed away a month ago. Lots of knowledge of the industry and a good teacher as well. It's too bad he didn't produce more videos. May he rest in peace.
Beautiful Amazing Batman, Superman, Punisher, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Spider-Man and SPAWN/Image covers just pop out really quick and put our eyes in a trance... Todd McFarlene, John Romita & his son JRJR are my favorite artist. Their covers are amazing.. Nice talk brother! I'm a huge fan of DC, Marvel and Image, Cheers! 👍🍺🍺🚬
Great series of videos! You mention at minute 4:02 that you were able to "fix-up a book without restoring it". It would be great to see a video on this topic alone. For example, that type of methods can be used to "fix-up" a book that don't constitute restoration. Thanks!
About the Spideys 121/122: just to use those books as an example, you stated once CGCed, they'd probably be double the guide amount. That I can absolutely live with, and would have no problem paying that amount or a bit higher. The problem is, there's just way too many sellers that severely overvalue their comics once CGCed. That's why their books usually end up in the "ebay comics museum" - there seemingly forever due to no buyers. I just feel that there's too many of these sellers out there, that put a real damper on the hobby and they actually get really angry sometimes if you dare make them a reasonable offer (even accounting for all their past expense). Just some random thoughts, great vids, it's appreciated.
Im really enjoying this information. I absolutely love this hobby. Some real jems your showing too. I just became a CGC member and im just looking for tips. I get how to do most of it, im just taking precautions. Really helpful videos here.
I really enjoyed this mini-series. I have been a collector for since childhood - am getting into sales as well, thanks for the insight into restoration - wonderful stuff. ty
Good review, I enjoyed all 3 parts. I think that 2 of the reasons for golden age WW2 time frame comics are so highly priced is that First, They were considered a novelty, meant to be read and then discarded. Second at that time we were at war with the axis and the country had paper drives for the war effort so a lot of them went to these drives. I have always been a huge EC fan and have a few in the horror genre that are CGC graded 5.0 and I am perfectly happy with them.As far as the war comics DC had Sgt Rock and Marvel had Nick Fury growing up at that time my friends and myself liked both.
Are there any valiant comics from the early 90s worth the CGC? Although the 90s are considered the dark days of comics, valiant were the only shine of light in comics & they are rarer. Your thoughts?
I'm new to this stuff so how do people afford to grade 20,40 0r more comics at $80+ a pop??? Or am I missing something??? Is there a discount for volume???
If you're getting valuable comics graded, CGC charges you a percentage of the comic's value. Books that are worth like $200 or less don't get that extra charge. Those are like $20 or $30 to get graded. Eide's can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works -- I've been studying up on it a bit & considering getting a handful of comics graded in the not-too-distant future.
Pressing and non chemical dry cleaning are not considered to be restoration by CGC . CGC promotes both thru their sister co. CCS . There are elements of both processes , especially pressing , that are considered proprietary . You can find info on dry erasure on the CGC chat boards but you will not find definitive info anywhere on safe and proper pressing . There are professional pressers that will school you about pressing to the tune of $1000 or so for the class . Pressing goes back to the late 70s and was originally only known and used by the elite . Over the years and with the advent of CGC , pressing became much more prevalent . Many hobby purists once considered pressing sacrilege but that group has dwindled to a small number . Pressing involves considerably more than tossing a comic in a press . There have been postings by people who showed themselves doing just that and thinking that they knew the secret hand shake when in fact they were doing potentially severe damage to the comic . Leave pressing to the pros . If you are near Pittsburgh , come to the store and we can advise and take care of your pressing needs . If not , contact Mike at Hero Restoration . Thanks for your comments .
Comics that come in a special packaging or mystery issue packaging, should they be open or keep in tach? And if so will they get ruin if kept on the packaging for a long period of time?
We are eides_entertainment on Ebay and we sell direct thru our store front in downtown Pittsburgh phone 412 2610900 . The Ebay listings are much of our pricier inventory but a very small fraction of our total inventory .
Next set of videos will be even nicer . Thanks for your comment and thanks for viewing . New videos are in production and will be up within the next 2 weeks . Peace .
Not trying to sound ungrateful for your vids, but just let me point something out... your tone-of-voice, you sound so unimpressed with everything (life in general?). Please, for the sake of the enthusiastic our here, try to prop your demeanor up a little bit, you sort of give me the impression that even comic book collecting is a sad place to be. I understand you're from the old school etc, which I sort of am too (i'm well into my 40's), but you almost sound drab about the whole situation, bordering sort of on stale. Handy hint, try watching the news journalists on TV and the news presenters etc, they mostly get hired because they're able to rise to the occasion during their presentation and prop their tone up a touch with consistency. I'm not trying to be an a-hole toward you, i'm just giving you some handy advice, seeing as you have a RUclips channel, know what I mean? You might want to consider how you present onscreen just for a little bit of pizzazz. PS: Yes, I know, everyone has a different personality etc, i'm not asking you to be who you aren't, i'm just asking if you could not sound so unimpressed and unenthusiastic about the whole thing. Cheers, and really, I do enjoy the content of your presentations to the extent that I subscribed to your channel. Peace out.
Great videos. Really appreciate the knowledge and insights. The content has aged well too for the most part.

Spider-Man 50 is also the 1st appearance of Kingpin
Great series of informative videos. Looking forward to seeing your other videos. Thanks for doing these.
Thank you for making these videos!
I really wanted to see the comics you showed, but I could only see the top half most of the time, so I bailed in the middle of Part 3.

MY thoughts are not just no but HELL NO--Valiant?? 90's??? Jeesh
Lol really? Harbingers #1 (1992) is so hard to get here in Australia. I've seen it on eBay for roughly $60 to $100 USD
Guitaro Montalban I wonder how much the early Valiants will be worth after the movies come out.
@@bcm3938 Like the new Bloodshot? Lets watch those census!

I think I'd fall over even if I got to see one of these in person lol. Great videos!
Great set of videos. I have some old comics and modern key issues but after seeing this I think I won't send mine in.
This guy should know as a very experienced collector not to put any fingerprints on comics!!
What are your thoughts on pressing? Is there anything that I can do at home to make a book look better without restoration?

This camera man is doing a terrible job

The facts are the facts. You might not like it but it is the truth.
Unless a book is 9 or higher I will not pay more for graded vs raw.
